This is the perfect spot for Thai food on a hot summer' day. The air conditioning and food has both been memorable. Their decor is obviously very nice too but it is the food that brings me back. I really like this Sisters Thai, the food is consistent and delicious. Personally I love the boat noodles here, flavorful and well balanced meal that takes me back to my trips in Thailand. A cautionary tale TLDR: Specify that you want your entrée served AFTER you finish your soup/appetizer and be clear about how spicy you want your food to be. The space is very small, maybe 10 tables. There's some parking that might be available in a small lot across the street and a half block away. I ordered Tom Ka Gai soup with Chicken, and Drunken Noodles with beef. Seems simple enough. And yet, there were three issues with these two dishes. I was really hopeful when they brought out my bowl of soup, mostly because it was a BOWL of soup and not the more typical cup-sized serving. The bad news was that the soup was tasteless. It consisted of a watery broth, some chunks of chicken, and a few mushrooms. (Issue #1). The six of us were two or three spoonfuls into our soups when the waiter brought our entrees. I don't know about you, but I like to finish one course before the next one is brought to my table, and I'm faced with having to decide which dish I want to let get cold. (Issue #2) In this case, the choice seemed obvious. I pushed the bowl of soup away and dug into my Drunken Noodles. Like many people, I typically order Drunken Noodles at Thai restaurants. I've had it dozens of times without any problems. I say "Drunken Noodles," they bring it (usually after I've finished my soup or appetizer), and I enjoy it. That's not what happened this time. This time, it was almost too spicy to eat. It was MUCH spicier than any other Drunken Noodles-es I've had. And I wasn't alone; another one of us could only handle a few bites of her food before giving up. (Issue #3) I may give this place another try, and if I do, my visit will include the advice that I just shared with you at the top of this review. read more

We went to Sisters Thai for the lunch special. The curry puff appetizer was flavorful and I liked how it used a puff pastry for the outside, it was more unique, buttery. The lunch special came with a selection of appetizers to choose from which we chose wontons. Those were okay, crispy but not much filling. I think the portion sizes got smaller from what we remember. Veggie delight was decent, not spicy, more salty and some garlic. I think it was a bit too salty for my liking. The spice tray on the table added a bit of kick to elevate the flavors and mask the saltiness. Definitely liked the green curry, smooth, creamy, flavorful and I enjoyed the eggplants in there. Friendly service, and cute cozy seating with the book decor. Parking can be problematic in Fairfax City but there are a few small parking lots nearby. read more

My husband and I visited Sister's Thai for dinner, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience from start to finish. We ordered spring rolls, tofu red curry, and minced chicken. After waiting over 30 minutes, we asked our server about the spring rolls, only to find out he had completely forgotten to place the order. They never arrived. About 15 minutes later, our entrees came out, but my husband's dish was served first, and he had to wait another 10 minutes before my meal arrived. The biggest disappointment was the food. My red curry looked and tasted like it was made almost entirely with coconut milk. It was extremely bland, lacked any authentic Thai flavor, and was honestly one of the worst red curries I've had. I ended up leaving the entire dish untouched except for the rice. On top of that, the restaurant is incredibly loud and packed so tightly that it doesn't make for a relaxing dining experience. Between the poor service, long waits, forgotten appetizer, and disappointing food, this was not an enjoyable evening. Been here twice in the past their menu is always consistently good. The space is decorated like a mini garden with a book shelf and they have menus shaped as newspapers with weekly local news, it's so cute. Our servers were really nice and offered water around the clock while we ate, for the appetizer, they recommended the chive dumplings somewhat like a scallion pancake. It was really good. The moment I walked in, I was struck by the beautiful decor, a perfect mix of modern elegance and Thai-inspired charm. The food was delicious, we tried the hoi-jor, curry puff, green curry shrimp and Drunken Noodles. All were flavorful, fresh, and perfectly spiced. The drink selection was overwhelming (in a good way!) but delicious. I tried a couple and just had to finish with my go-to traditional Thai tea. Came for the hype and left disappointed. Sisters Thai in old town Fairfax is an unassuming hole-in-the-wall with a cute setup, cute newspaper style menus, and friendly staff. I really enjoyed the decor, though it was uncomfortable to sit too high or too low (mismatched chairs and tables). The service was rather quick. The food looks appetizing, but the portions (as pictured) were quite small for one ended up being $18-20/plate. The wonton soup was an appetizer and definitely had MSG :/ Felt like crap for the rest of the day. This is our absolute favorite Thai restaurant. This location is close to our home and we order takeout once a month at least. They always package it carefully and give you all the condiments you would need. Last week the driver had forgotten mango sticky rice and we hadn't even called but he showed back up 45 minutes later with the desserts. They always do such a great job, we wouldn't have complained had it been missed since they are always so consistent and great. They really went above and beyond! Highly recommend Sisters Thai! I had Tom Ka soup and crispy duck curry. Their serving portion is very generous and I was so full and still had some good amount of leftovers. The service was very attentive and the staff were very friendly. The restaurant had a cute decor inside and it was very cozy. I accidentally ate a very spicy jalapeno and my mouth was burning, so it might be better avoiding it if your spicy food tolerance is low. I always start off with curry puffs. 10/10 and always consistent. The entrees were all amazing. I prefer drunken noodles but both the pad see ew and drunken noodles are delicious. Pad see ew is more chewy. I would recommend beef or shrimp for these dishes. Level 5 spice can get very spicy with the noodles. Chicken for the curries unless it is specific like the crispy duck curry. The crispy duck curry is my favorite and I get it every time. I noticed more pieces of pineapple and duck this time. Curry comes with rice. If you like heat I would do level 5 because it mixes well with the rices. I don't know how they were able to get perfectly ripe mangos during the winter but they did and this is an amazing dessert. The perfectly ripped mangos pair so well with the condense milk and sticky rice. Service is great, even in this small cute store. The servers are very attentive and refill waters regularly. They do a good job communicating with each other and it truly shows. read more

I typically love this chain of restaurants. The ambiance is soo cute at all the locations. The food is almost always amazing. I did enjoy 2 out of 3 of the dishes this time. The drunken noodles and kaprow were delicious. However, the Panang curry was not good. It came with 2 pieces of broccoli and alot of stale tofu (basically the tofu tasted like rubber). I was honestly really surprised as I have always had a good experience with Sisters. The dessert of fried banana and ice cream was also very good. When we complained I was told that they reuse the oil for 2 days before changing it because of cost and that may be the cause of the tofu not tasting good. I was surprised to hear that and it will definitely affect the amount of times I eat out as I am sure they are not the only restaurant that does this. I personally think it was old tofu that was rewarmed a few times which is why it tasted the way it did. I will give them 3 stars out of 5 because of this incident. I will say they did try to rectify the situation but they only discounted the order by $3.20, we had to ask for it to be taken off because the dish was really not edible. read more

When you walk into the restaurant, the vibe of the place is very cute and picturesque. I loved the decor there! The staff were very friendly. We ordered takeout, and all the food was basically done in about 10 min, which was much quicker than I had expected. The drunken noodles were so spicy at level 3 but it was extremely tasty, I loved it. The crabmeat fried rice was also flavorful as well. This is a fun little spot! I had walked by it several times and had always wanted to try it. It was one of the better Thai food experiences I have had in the DC area. The inside dining area is cozy and the decor has a flowery coffee shop vibe to it. The service was excellent and the staff was friendly. The food was amazing and the portions seemed larger than other Thai places I have tried. I had the wonton soup and sisters fried rice. Sister's Thai was a staple back when I went to George Mason. It's such a cute vibe inside and definitely makes you feel at home. I don't love this location because there's always traffic and parking is difficult (unless you're going on off hours). The inside is also fairly small so it's not a great place for big groups. We had Sunday dinner at Sisters in Fairfax (4004 University Dr #6804, Fairfax, VA 22030) which is one of the eight restaurants in the DMV area. At Sisters, we were met immediately as soon as we arrived at the door and were seated with menus. Our waitress greeted us with a smile in less than 30 seconds and took drink orders. This was our second time at this restaurant. I took note at the cozy and exceptional ambiance of living room decor. Bookshelves filled with real books. Everything was real just like being at home. I just really enjoyed the comfortable home-like environment. Appetizers were served quickly and hot. For dinner, I ordered the Cashew Nut with Chicken. It was cooked to perfection of their original Thai dish. Sisters Thai, also known as The Living Room Cafe, is a popular Thai restaurant in Old Town Fairfax, known to our friends who dine there often. Great food. The crispy pork belly with Chinese broccoli is an off menu item that can be requested by ordering the Moo grob and requesting for it to be served with the Chinese broccoli. It is delicious. They have a version of the pork belly in the street food section. The pad Thai is delicious and the Tom yum soup is also delicious. The mango sticky rice is delicious for dessert. The drunken noodle is especially good here. The noodle is bouncy and chewy and delicious. The Panang Chicken is very saucy, chicken was a little bit dry but the flavor was there. We had a pretty nice experience dining in at Sisters Thai in Fairfax. A parking lot is available across the street and could get full pretty quickly. We went late - around 9pm for dinner and this place was still very busy. Thankfully we got a table pretty fast, and service was friendly. There are not a lot of tables here though, so I'd caution against coming during a lunch or dinner rush. Started out with the crispy spring rolls. These definitely tasted fresh to me and the dipping sauce was great. The rolls themselves could've used a smidge more flavor. I got the Thai tea to drink - it was slightly too sweet for my liking but overall pretty good. I tried the chicken pad Thai for my entree - I wished the pad Thai had a bit more flavor, it was good but not the best I've had. Portion size was nice though. However, my fiancé got the crispy duck curry and it was DELICIOUS. I was a bit jealous I didn't get a curry dish instead because it was so flavorful and had a nice spice level. Cozy spot, feels both elevated and somewhat casual, while leaning on the elevated side. It has a bistro sort of vibe. The only downside is that parking is not easy but honestly, where isn't parking difficult around that area? Its been some years since I've been but this used to be my go-to when I was going to school at GMU, then later when I had a doctor whose office was nearby before they retired. Sisters Thai has become one of our go-to lunch/dinner places. Our favorite dishes are Sisters fried rice, pottery shrimp, and the tried and true pad Thai. My only con for this place is how close the tables are to each other. When it's just me and my SO dining, I secretly hope not to be seated near another table of 2. It's so awkward to squish between that narrow little space between the tables. It literally feels like you're squishing past people in a movie theater aisle or even an airplane aisle. Anyway, the food is consistently good and the service is super quick! I love the little cozy touches - from the newspaper menus to the decor throughout. The non-alcoholic drink menu is nice as well! The Thai tea and various lemonades/Asian-fruit based ice slushes are great. All in all, I feel like this place tries to optimize efficiency (nothing wrong with that) but that probably underlies the slightly uncomfortable table arrangements. Service is fast but not necessarily warm or friendly (also nothing necessarily wrong with that). It's not somewhere where you would feel like a regular even if you go regularly. That being said, it's still one of our go-tos for good Thai food in the Mosaic District! read more
