I think knowing what's transpired gives you a very good idea of what kind of business this is. -------------------------------------------- It saddens me to have to write this but truth is the truth so here it is: I've taken both my cat and my dog to Sisters Vet & initially was impressed, so much so that when we returned to the Sisters area for the summer, I made appointments for my furbabies to have their checkups (versus doing so at our winter home). Their appointments aren't until July. In the meantime, I'm looking to adopt another dog (give my doggo a playmate). It seems most of the dogs needing homes aren't fixed & that's a must for me (especially since I'm looking at a female dog; I don't need puppies!!). The person I'm taking the dog from is willing to help cover the cost of the spaying so I went to the clinic to ask for an estimate. Upon my request, Chris told me that they don't do quotes until they inspect the dog. I let her know that I didn't need an exact quote, just a range would be ok; I just needed to know how much to tell the foster so they could help offset the cost. Chris again REFUSED to even give me a range of prices. There's a HUGE difference between $200 & $600; I just wanted some kind of an idea. Again, refusal. I told her it wasn't like this is a contract and I'm going to hold them to the exact price. REFUSAL!! They will only give a quote AFTER you make an appointment and let them do a general exam. It's their "policy" & they're not willing to budge on it AT ALL! THIS REEKS OF A SCAM TO GET MORE MONEY OUT OF YOU!!! I asked if it was possible to speak with someone else who might be willing to help me. I explained that the dog I'm looking at is about 2 hours away & there wasn't a feasible way to get the dog to them for an exam prior to the spay appointment. That would include a 4 hour round trip. The person who is rehoming their dog has reasons for doing so. Once she's out of their house, they can't take her back. What was I supposed to do if they quoted me a price that wasn't in my budget? I'd now be stuck with a female dog that's not spayed & that's not a responsibility I can take on. I'm trying to do the right thing, give an animal a home that needs one & be a responsible pet owner. I let Chris know that if I couldn't get an estimate, I'd be taking my business elsewhere, to someone who can provide customer service. Her response? "Ok" I asked to have someone please call me in hopes of finding a solution. They've NEVER returned my call. NEVER!!! CLEARLY they don't give a hoot about us as customers & I'm not ok with that. When I'm bringing my animals to a vet, I'm giving them the power to care for one of my family members. If you can't treat me with respect and kindness & offer something like a quote, I don't trust you & will not allow you to care for my furbabies. Especially if I feel like you're just trying to get more money out of me = SCAM!!! The only reason I have 2 stars is because I genuinely liked Dr. Amsberry (I hope I'm spelling that correctly). He was kind, helpful, & seems to care about not only the patients but the humans as well. It's heartbreaking that that level of care doesn't extend through the whole facility. I am completely disappointed. Do not bring your animals here unless you have deep pockets and are willing to just give money away arbitrarily. **UPDATE** We are back up to 5 stars!! This interaction has prompted Sisters Vet to amend their policies. After having conversations with me and carefully considering everything that happened, they now give out quotes to established clients. For a variety of reasons I needed an estimate before I committed to adopting any new dog. I never expected one immediately; I was willing to wait. I understand that there are many variables that can alter an estimate; my plan was never to hold them to an exact price. Unfortunately, the adoption didn't go through (they were unwilling to pay half the fee after all). But I still take my cat and dog to see Dr. Amsbury. We are always greeted with smiles and people eager to see Durp (the vet is one of his favorite places lol). And when it's Dori's turn to go in, they all talk about how vocal she is and that they know she's there. Outside of the aforementioned bad interaction, they've always treated me with kindness. Being able to do that while knowing someone is unhappy with your service, that shows the true quality of their characters. They are good people. We both were just having bad days at the same time. I'm even more of a fan of Sisters Veterinary Clinic than I was before. 10/10 would MOST DEFINITELY recommend them. read more

Dr. Barton and Dr. Berg are superbly intelligent, compassionate, knowledgeable vets who clearly care deeply for animals and work hard to do right by them, even when they have to make tough calls for the animal's best interest. Sister Veterinary Clinic was so helpful. We were visiting from out of town and our dog had some concerning symptoms. We called them mid afternoon on a Friday and they were able to get us in that day within the hour. Front staff was very kind and welcoming along with the vet tech and veterinarian. They listened to us and made us feel at ease with a plan in place. They called the following Monday to check to see how our dog was doing. I had trouble with my previous vet, and I decided to search for a new one. Sisters is out of my way, but I decided to give them a chance since I had heard good things. My cat has been having problems with his teeth and I wanted to get them looked at. They were incredibly thorough and were able to answer all my questions. They took a lot of time with us and were helpful with recommendations for different foods to help keep his teeth healthier. They were very good to my cat even though he tends to be on the shy side in public. They weren't invasive and he did better than he usually does being handled by other people. I greatly appreciate how caring everyone is there. I decided to go ahead with the removals he needed and the cleaning, and although I was apprehensive because Sphynxes are known for heart problems, they did tests to make sure he would be okay for anesthesia. They assured me he would be well taken care of, and the vet told me she had done the same procedure on her cat recently. I felt a lot more confident about their abilities than when I had taken him to the other vet. My cat's removals went well, and they called me during the procedure to let me know he had been put under and was doing good. They also called me to check on him a few days later, then they also provided a free follow up appointment to check on his mouth and gums and how they were healing. They went above and beyond and I will be taking my other pets here, despite the long drive. This is a great vet with a good staff, and you can trust them to take care of your furry (or hairless) family members. read more

First, I would like to say that I am someone who tries to put positivity out into the world and I am not living my life trying to stir things up. I am only writing this review in the hopes that Sisters Veterinary Clinic hears me, and to hopefully prepare other pet parents for what they might be facing when they take their pet to Dr. Barton. To avoid writing a review that is too fueled by emotions, I have waited over a week to write this. I recently moved to Sisters and brought my two dogs to Dr. Barton for a check-up. I adopted one of my dogs recently and this was the first time I had taken her to the vet. I was impressed with how friendly the admin staff and the vet tech was to both me and my dogs. And then Dr. Barton walked in. There was no warm introduction, she just jumped into very sternly telling me that both of my dogs are overweight (only 2-3 lbs overweight and they are 30+ pound dogs). She then bluntly told me that the dog I recently rescued has a heart murmur. The way our conversation went regarding the heart murmur was not unlike when your mechanic tells you that the transmission in your car is going. I realize no dog parent would enjoy hearing that their dog has a heart murmur, but there's a way to do it and there's a way not to do it. One element of a veterinarians job is to be sensitive and understanding to how attached each of us are to our pets and to understand how devastating news like this can be. During our conversation, Dr. Barton never said anything to make me think this wasn't a death sentence. She didn't tell me what I know now, that many dogs can live long and happy lives with a heart murmur. I do not think Dr. Barton is a bad person. It is clear that she is intelligent, but based on my interaction with her, it's also clear that she isn't an empathetic or sensitive person that can tune into pet parents. You could be the smartest vet around, but if you don't make pet owners feel safe and listened to, business is not going to be good. I hope Dr. Barton learns to give diagnosis's in a more thoughtful way, and I wish her a great career. The other main issue I had with this clinic is that they didn't offer me a quote or estimate for how much all of the services were going to cost. I was asked a whirlwind of questions regarding if I was willing to run the recommended tests or if I would purchase the recommended food, medications and supplements, and I said "yes" to everything because I was overwhelmed, all the while having no idea how much everything would cost. My bill ended up being $405.00 and no quote was given. After this visit I have decided to go back to my regular vet, Dr. Putnam at Riverside Animal Hospital. At Riverside you will always know how much the services they are recommending for your pet are before agreeing to them, and they treat their patient's humans in a way that removes the fear factor and makes you feel like you are being taken care of. Sisters Veterinary Clinic is a two minute walk from my house and I will be driving the 35 minutes to Riverside Animal Hospital. I gave Sisters Veterinary Clinic two stars because of how friendly the front desk staff and the veterinary technician was. Update on my dog, for the readers who are curious: Riverside listened to her heart and they did not hear a heart murmur. They did hear a "S1 S2 split" meaning that one of the valves of her heart are not closing all the way. So they ordered a blood test to measure a heart enzyme associated with an over stressed heart, and that test came back totally normal. Her X-ray also showed a normal size heart without any defects. In one year we will do the blood test again and if the enzyme is elevated we will go see a canine cardiologist to get an EKG (sorry, not a vet so I can't get too technical in describing this stuff). We just moved from out of town and our pup hurt his paw pad and we were able to get him into the office the same day. The front desk staff was super nice and the vet was great too. I don't know how to express the feeling of being taken care of so well by a veterinary clinic, but I will try. My elderly cat needed a teeth cleaning and every step was full of attention to detail and follow up. Have you ever felt like you were required to call your vet to get any information at all about your pet's wellness or procedure? Well, that doesn't happen with SVC - they called me while our girl was in surgery to ease my mind and followed up so perfectly. I can't tell you how much that kind of customer service means to me. We feel extremely lucky to have found this vet!! It's worth the drive to Sisters to experience this level of committed and detail oriented care. read more

We were visiting in Sisters at an RV park and our 13 year old American Bulldog had a stroke and needed to be put down. The staff at Sisters Vet Clinic was very caring and gracious and help us with this difficult end of life decision. I highly recommend them and will use there services again, if the need should arise, while visiting Sisters. read more

Dr. Berg is a great guy. I have a 145 pound rotty who doesn't like other animals and most people. Dr. Berg comes out to my home to treat him. The staff at Sisters Veterinary Clinic is great and they have a very well run office. read more

We took our cat here for the first time. All of the staff members we encountered were very nice. Dr. Burton is knowledgeable and friendly. My boyfriend and I were visiting family from out of town, and the place where we were staying was not pet-friendly. The only other kennel in town was booked for the holidays, so we decided to board our puppy here. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, and our dog seemed to enjoy his stay. They also let us come and pick him up and take him for walks, or hang out with him during the day. We just had to have him back by 5pm before they closed. I really enjoyed that, especially since our dog is a puppy and had never seen snow before, and it was his first Christmas. I was glad we were able to still spend a lot of time with him over our vacation, while still being able to adhere to the no-pet policy of our rental. read more

Our 13 year old yellow lab "Stanley" has been a patient of Dr. Carl's for 8 or so years and with no health issues we have never really needed any care except a periodic exam and shots. Recently he developed a large growth on his lower leg (which raptured) along with weight loss over the last couple of years we anticipated some bad news. Dr. Carl's advice has been very comprehensive and after some blood work we decided to put him under and remove some growths, clean his teeth, do his nails and deep clean his ears :) The procedure was a success and no cancer yet! The care is the best and Stanley is feeling so good he was rolling in the snow this morning! Thanks Sisters Veterinary! read more

Everyone was so friendly and helpful! I had to take my dog in for an emergency while on vacation and they squeezed her in at their first available time. They worked with my situation and helped me find a solution that worked. They even called the next day to check on my dog and make sure everything was going well! I have never before written a Yelp review. But, I would like to share my/our experience with this veterinary clinic. Last Summer, we enjoyed a week vacation in Sisters with our two children, and our two Golden Retrievers 'Lily'(5) and 'Woody'(10). Just before leaving our Woody fell ill. He had been fine all week, and we were at a total loss as to what had happened. Dr, Pitman and her staff could not have been more responsive or compassionate. They quickly realized that Woody required care that could only be provided in Bend, and arranged for his safe transfer. They stabilized him for the trip, and coordinated with the receiving Vet. Later, he was diagnosed with an incurable cancer. The only easy part of letting such a great spirit go, was in knowing that everyone along the way had done everything possible to save him. As a physician with over 25 years experience in health care, I know good patient care when I see it. We know that we can not save every patient, but that we can always strive to be caring, compassionate, and competent. This clinic was all of these for our family. I must apologize to Dr. Pitman and her staff, for the long delay in this review. We will always be grateful. read more
