I had to put my dog down recently and of course I was dreading the whole process, but from beginning to end the staff were amazingly kind and thoughtful. We were able to get in next day for the procedure so I didn't have to wait too long knowing what was going to happen (Thank you Callie) They had a special private entrance for us which was nice because I had already started sobbing. My vet, Morgan Helfrich, and her tech were very kind and made sure we could say goodbye at our pace. They had plenty of anesthetic so she could pass not knowing what was happening. My vet said some very gentle words as my dog was passing to gently say goodbye, words I was unable to choke out at the time, but were important to say. I came in today with my dog Trudy. It was a very emotional visit, indeed. Trudy is our angel. We are from Paradise California and lost everything in the fire, but we're able to get, Trudy out safely. Our son and his family went through the same thing and the only thing they got out was their dog, Abby. We both chose Riverside Animal Hospital and were glad we did. Though Abby has passed away from cancer, the care she got was second to none. I brought Trudy today for a follow up, from a urinary tract infection and possible mass on her bladder. To say I was scared was an understatement. As I walked in the office, I was greeted professionally and more important a reassuring welcome. This made me feel, so much more comfortable and I knew, It was so sincere. Each person had a caring smile on their face. I was immediately brought back to the station, for the examination. Again, I was treated with much kindness and in a real professional manner. She asked about how Trudy was doing and did an initial exam. She could tell I was scared and gave me much reassurance. After this examination, Trudy was taken to a different room and an ultrasound took place. I was so scared. Thinking the worst, and hoping that my prayers would be answered, in a positive way. After a few minutes, the veterinary staff doctor and assistant returned. They gave me positive information and I was so relieved and so thankful for Riverside Animal Hospital, for the amazing job, that they all did, from the time I walked in to the time that I left. We will go back in about a month for a recheck up and hope and pray that everything will be OK. After moving across the country, switching our pugs Sayuri and Shelby to a new Veterinarian gave us a lot of nervous expectations. I think we hit the jackpot with Dr. Lee, and her assistant Liz at Riverside Animal Hospital. The first contact was Liz doing the new patient intake. My husband and I were struck by the kindness and immediate connection that Liz made with our pugs. She was gentle and comforting to Sayuri's skepticism, and soothing and loving to Shelby's nerves. I'm so glad we went there. Dr Helen Moore was able to refer us to an oncologist in town for my senior dog Ollie's cancer diagnosis. Riverside staff were prompt and clear with communications about Ollie's medicine orders. Although we weren't clients very long before Ollie passed away, I received an incredibly sweet sympathy card in the mail signed by the staff. I'm grieving the loss of my sweet companion of nearly 15 years and gestures like that mean the world to me right now. In all honesty, I am completely blown away by the level of care and follow through this team has. I recently rescued a Doberman who had a fractured foot that needed an amputation. I visited 3 vets prior to Riverside to get a feel for the surgeon, costs, and overall establishment. From the moment I brought her in the door they were nothing but caring. I choose riverside for our amputation because of the Vet team, a price range that was accessible to me, and a great reputation from VRCCO (the board certified animal hospital that would cost double the price). However, more than anything that brought me here originally, I have to say the aftercare has blown me away. As you can imagine, with leg amputation I was worried and stressed. Riverside Animal Hospital walked me through every step, called multiple times to check in on my sweet pup, and promptly called me back after every email I sent depicting her progress. It's early in our pet owner/veterinarian relationship, but so far, 5 stars for Riverside. Front staff is efficient and friendly. They even handled a verbal cat food prescription transfer from out of state for us when we were there with our new (old) dog. Vet technician and veterinarian handled the free humane shelter provided initial exam about as well as we could have hoped. Our new (old) dog came with some significant health issues when we adopted her but the Riverside folks went ahead and gave her a good looking at, including post-surgery progress and interpretation of laboratory results we just received from the shelter. I can't say enough great things about Riverside. I switched to their clinic after my cat was not properly cared for at a different clinic. Riverside surpassed my expectations. My elderly cat was in late stage renal failure. Dr. Casey researched new therapies and options for him rather than relying on the normal protocol. She even called other vets around the country to get the best information. Ultimately, my cat was not able to benefit from the new treatment option, but I am super grateful for her effort and dedication. I was able to recommend the treatment for a friend's cat. It seems to be working very well for her. I recently adopted 2 kittens. Once again, I am very pleased with the care they have received. We've had two dogs that Riverside has cared for over the years. (Formerly Deschutes Veterinary Clinic). Our oldest, a now departed German Shepherd who was a patient at Riverside for 5 years. They were wonderful with her and when it was finally time for her to be put down, she was cancer ridden, they provided such great service and empathy. It was as good as it could be having that we were putting her down. Next up our rescue puppy. While they were reluctant to commit to what breed she might be, they have taken the best care of her. It's been more than just puppy shots, our little girlie had her dew claw damaged and they did a wonderful job of trimming it up and getting her on the road to recovery. And for a very decent price. Dr. Putnam has been our primary vet for both dogs, but with the dew claw issue we worked with Dr. Menasco. Both were wonderful and took great care of our dogs. And a shout out to their man Zachary at the front desk, great service. Professional operation, great service, nicest of people and reasonable prices. I trust my animals with this group. read more

I have had doggies my whole life and experienced numerous vets through the years. I have NEVER encountered the degree of loving, compassionate, and thorough care as I have received from Riverside. My beloved beagle had to be put down recently from a rather sudden hemangiosarcoma cancer diagnosis. When the dreaded time came for him to be put down, Misha and Dr. Putnam came to our house. They were here an hour for what was a beautiful, caring, compassionate and very loving ceremony of his passing. A couple weeks later, I received a lovely hand made condolence card filled with individual loving messages from each of the staff from Riverside. I was moved to tears by this most gracious and caring act of kindness. I cannot say enough wonderful words about Riverside Hospital. I love all of you. I'm so disappointed in Riverside. On Saturday my little dog was attacked by a large dog. We are a patient of Riverside. He had a lot of wounds. I called Riverside to see if I could bring my dog in right away. It was 12:20 pm. I was told they were closing at 1pm & didn't have time to see him. I could understand if we needed something else & needed to make an appointment, but this was an emergency. I will re-think changing veterinary animal hospitals. read more

My little (big) scaredy cat allowed herself to be handled by Riverside's resident cat whisperer. If you knew my cat that'd probably be enough said! I am incredibly impressed and grateful for the restraint and expertise shown in handling her. Immediately when I came in, the front desk recognized that my cat wasn't doing well with all the hustle and bustle and set us up in a quiet(er) room on our own, where she was able to relax a little. The veterinarian was very informative and put my mind at ease, recommended a wait and observe strategy towards the issues my cat was brought in for rather than loading me up with meds and a big bill or recommending a more invasive diagnostic involving sedation. Obvious to me that Riverside is run with integrity and a love and respect for the creatures it works with. I wouldn't go anywhere else if my cat ever needs to be taken in again. Thank you! read more

Both our dogs are fairly new to Riverside Animal Hospital (3 months). After a not so pleasant experience with another Vet in town, we decided to give Riverside a try. From the moment you walk through the door to the reception area, to the vet tech and to the veterinarian, you will meet the most compassionate, caring animal lovers (which should be true at all veterinarian offices but unfortunately isn't). They go above and beyond to take the best care of your animals (family members). Better yet, our dog needed a costly dental surgery and when all was said and done, it only cost half of what they had quoted us. When does that ever happen?! This just goes to show you that they charge what is fair and your pets care is their top priority. I would give six stars if I could, I highly recommend Riverside animal hospital to anyone and everyone looking for a new Vet. read more

I have had some pretty frustrating vet visits, until we found Dr. Putnam at Riverside Animal hospital. She is attentive, thorough, and incredibly trust worthy. Porter scared us today with clumsily whacking his head HARD on the door frame this morning then finding blood drops on the floor a few hours later where he had been laying. She called me way after their hours to talk through Porter's situation. And don't worry, the clumsy puppy is fine! And I feel at ease. That is not true Cody. I declined the med for 10. 75 because I was expected to buy two pain meds. The medication I paid for was over $60.00. I still have the pain med I was charged over $60.00 for that Dante didn't even need. Your receptionists tried to overcharge me for a follow up visit to check Dante and remove stitches from the tumors incisions . I already removed stitches and I ask to see a vet instead of a tec.the receptionist tried to charge me for vet visit even though I was always allowed to see a vet before for follow ups after surgery. It's too bad that you would post something that isn't true on top of the treatment I received. I know what happened. You were not there at the time , Cody. if it's not in Dante chart that your problem. I did have to pay for a tec exam even though it should have been included. My dog, Mindy, is nine years old, she has been seeing Dr. Sarah Cummings since she was a year old. Dr. Cummings was one of the vets that started Riverside Animal Hospital. Dr. Cummings is knowledgeable, wonderful, kind, compassionate and everything I would want for my own physician, so clearly I am relieved to have her advice as well as care for Mindy. She is never rushed, taking the time to answer any questions. The people at the front desk are helpful and very nice. Parking is convenient and everything about Riverside is of the highest standards. Riverside Animal Hospital provided excellent care to our 13 year old dog who had cancer. We came to them Oct 2016 for second opinion, which confirmed the first & they provided excellent palliative care. They also helped us to make the decision when it was time, with great compassion & care. They came to our house to put our dog down & as heartbreaking as it was could not have been handled with greater compassion. Dr. Putnam & her staff spent a great deal of time with us & made our dogs passing painless & with love. It was a painful day but I will always be grateful to Dr. Putnam & Riverside Vet for the extraordinary kindness & care shown to our dog & us. I can't speak highly enough of the doctors and staff at Riverside. I have been there five or six times in the past couple of weeks with my German Shepherd who a tumor that was diagnosed as cancerous. Everyone at Riverside was compassionate and professional and laid out all the options. It turned out that both the cancer and the tumor were growing fast and that while there were surgery options, none of them were good. We decided to let him go before he started to suffer and everyone at Riverside was compassionate and supportive. read more

We just moved to Bend two weeks ago with our two dogs and when we woke up this morning something was wrong with Lulu. We called Riverside Animal Hospital and were able to see Dr. Casey the same day. Dr. Casey was amazing with our dog and took the time to thoroughly explain everything that was going on and to cover so many other important care issues for our geriatric Lulu. Skeptical of coming to Riverside because of what happened with Deschutes Vet. However they are not the same vet clinic! I called mid week and had an appointment the next day. Wonderful staff and tech's. Dr. Putnam is so wonderful, kind and compassionate. I took my little 6 lb Chi/Pom for a check up and reverse sneezing. Dr. Putnam was not quick to medicate her and took plenty of time explaining why this happens, possible causes and also more holistic ways of approaching this as I am not a drug/medicine fan for things of this nature. Both of my dogs lives have been saved at Riverside. All the Drs and staff are so smart and thoughtful. Most recently Dr. Putnam and the tech who's name I did not catch went so far above and beyond to help me understand my dogs likely life ending illness and showed so much compassion as it took me a bit to process the surprise of what was happening. I wouldn't trust anyone else to take care of my best friend and fur child! Everyone I know goes here and for good reason, all the vets on staff have seen my dog Kevin and they're all incredible. His primary vet Dr. Cummings is one of a kind. I've never had service like I get here and it's above and beyond what's expected. They will email, call, leave voice messages and really take the extra time to chat with you when there's a problem. They'll even check in weeks later to see how your pet is doing. They also do their best to quote you prices on the spot and they've never been off, if they find themselves needing to do extra work that was originally not anticipated, they call. Every time Kevin and I walk in he's greeted by name and loved on. I can tell they truly love animals and they always make my boy feel so safe and special. I'm truly grateful for Riverside, their vets and the whole staff. They're something extraordinary and deserve to be recognized. read more

My little Pug Gracie ran into a pole while chasing her brother and her eye popped out. I was frantic and picked her up and we got incredibly lucky and her popped back into place! I called Riverside last minute on a Saturday and they were full! But after hearing what happened said bring her in! I got there and Dr. Menasco and her Assistant Seth were amazing! Doctor got right onto the floor with Gracie and made Gracie feel so comfortable and me comfortable knowing she loved my little Gracie! We got very lucky and her eye was doing great!
