Appreciated the fresh, delicious, and gluten free option including steak, chicken, and pork kebabs. Lots of gf side option including kasha, potatoes, Jerusalem salad, hummus, etc.

Excellent. Was treated immediately with a smile and a welcome. The food was fast, fantastic and affordable. Lunch special is awesome. Very happy with my experience. I'll be back.

Yep!!! The prices are incredible too!

I like the place. LIKE. The food is mostly tasty and I don't REALLY know what any of it is. Sure I get the basic idea. Rice. Kabobs. Etc. But this is not my food ethnically. Christian owner- major plus! Food prices beyond fair- another plus. Lots of hard working God-fearing Americans here. Great. My issue? The toilet smell. I can smell the toilets every time I am there. 3 doors side by side-Front door, toilet, toilet. Very much IN the dining area. You can smell it after someone ... ugh. Plurggle plop! Sound disgusting? It is! I want to go every week. I want them to KNOW of this issue. I want them to fix this. Better ventilation. Build a separate add-on space for toilets? There must be an answer. Armenians are smart folks aren't they? But sitting there and looking right into the toilet as some guy shuffles out zipping up his pants and that whiff of... It's gross!!!

Haven't been to many Armenian restaurants, the cuisine is in the Mediterranean family but of course unique as well. Cozy, clean, inviting, and delicious, generous portions. I recommend the mixed grill, unless you are vegetarian. Then, I do not recommend the mixed grill. I love the rice here. I had a chance to see the good service challenged by one of the most annoying customers I've ever witnessed. She had a large order but had to micro-manage with odd troublesome questions for every step of the process. I would have kicked her out. So would Job. But the cook-cashier-waiter patiently served, adjusted, answered, the whole process took so long some of her earlier ordered food got cold. It became apparent she was feeding a party and going to pretend she cooked all the food. So, the restaurant didn't even get credit for what I'm sure was a happily sated larger group. So, if she got good service, I think you will too. I noticed in some other reviews some people came in costumes and still got good service, so all around, we seem to agree, good service here.

Did a catering order for pickup here on a weeknight. The order was still in the process of being prepared when I arrived at the designated pickup time. The meat was fresh off the grill and packed up and the salads and cabbage was already prepared and ready to go. The food is good as always, just like their lunch specials. Everything was nicely packed and placed in boxes making it easier for transport. There was plenty of food for the group.

honestly this is the best meal i've ever had in my entire life. NO JOKE THERES SO MUCH FLAVOR. may the chefs have their pillows cold at night. the cashier was phenomenal. the rest of the kitchen team is communicative. the vibe inside is comfortable.

My colleague and I were looking for a lunch spot nearby the office and were so pleasantly surprised by this spot. Delicious food, and reasonably priced. I'm looking forward to coming back.

If your looking for Armenian food, this is the place to go. There are not many of these restaurants around here, so this one really stands out. You can either have a wrap or a plate. You have to pick a meat, salad, rice, and sauce. Everything is so fresh and delicious. The people that work there are also so nice. It is definitely worth going out of your way to go to.

Shout out to our guide during our trip- he made sure we tried lots of cuisine that was all the way Kyrgyz food! The crispy eggplant is a must and is my favorite ! The eggplant is light and the sauce that is drenched on top is perfect to balance the fried crispy exterior. Next I ordered Samsa, Plov, and lamb kurdock. My husband ordered the beef rib and mash potatoes. Not the most Kyrgyz but he did try everything and loved it all! If you want a taste of central Asian cuisine please come to Jibek Jolu! Don't forget the honey cake!

He wasn't very helpful unfortunately other than naming some appetizers that we tried, though these came after some of our entrees came out. It was also very difficult to get water and refills on water but other than that we loved our experience. We over ordered because again, we were not aware of how big the portions would be and our waiter wasn't very informative: Carrot salad- even as a side this was a big portion to share with delicious light Asian flavors Jibek jolu salad- another great shareable with a tasty dressing and cuts of tender beef Khachapuri- one of the recommended apps, also a big portion to share though we didn't know what to do with the raw egg that came on the side. After flagging someone down to help us, we discovered that this was a delicious cheesy bread with egg mixed in. Crispy eggplant- another recommended app which was delicious and sweet Lamb kurdock- I didn't love this dish it was kind of dry and lacking in flavor but huge with lots of potatoes and veggies Combo skewers- so much meat that was all very tender and flavorful, though it came on one thin soggy tortilla. It would have been nice to have more tortillas on the side to make a wrap. I also tried the chicken tabaka, and this was delicious with a curry flavor. Overall, most dishes were so delicious, but it was a bit of a learning curve on how to order and what to expect.

Tucked unassumingly in a shopping mall in Mundelein, Ararat is a tiny hidden gem. With only about an 8 table dining room, it is a cozy, intimate venue, with a huge and amazing menu, featuring Armenian cuisine. A party of 4, we ordered drinks, 3 appetizers, and an entree for each of us. The portions were generous, delicious, and we probably over-ordered by at least one appetizer, but we wanted to sample and share as many dishes as possible. We began with glasses of tasty Armenian apricot wine. Our appetizers came out in sequence rather than all at once, starting with Italian Lady's Fingers. A mixed salad of cooked bell peppers, nuts, onion and prunes. Very good. Next we were served Khorovats, Armenian style grilled eggplant . Also an excellent dish. Last was beef and lamb dumplings, Khinkili. One of these large, juicy dumplings could have been almost half a meal by itself. I've tried khinkili in a number of restaurants, and these were the best I've eaten. Our entrees were Steak Kebab, Lamb Kebab, Lamb Rice Pilaf, and Frikasse, a chicken, mushroom, vegetable in sour cream sauce dish. All were very good, and were were saddened that we were all too full to try any of their baked goods desserts. The meal was excellent, the small dining room comfy and the service very good. One word of caution: If you plan to dine here you must be patient. Dishes were served as they were prepared, and apparantly little if anything is prepared in advance. The advantage is hot, fresh, and tasty dishes. The disadvantage is that there was a 10 minute delay between service of the 1st and 4th entree. We were in no hurry, so we did not mind. Also we were sharing our selection. For a casual, relaxed, delicious dining adventure I highly recommend Ararat.

PREVIOUS REVIEW Very popular place and hence rather hard to get in. But the wait for once is worth it. The menu items, which come in small portions (tapas size), are very special and not to be found anywhere else. As surprising as some of the items may sound, they all looked great (even the once on other people's plates), and the ones I could get to taste were very special, interesting flavors, and very good. No specific recommendations but would suggest to leave some space for lemon panna cotta. Casual and trendy atmosphere on the Magnificent Mile. Definitely will go back again when in Chicago.

There's lots of exciting food options on the route, and I did question myself on if this was worth the effort... it was. Small place, but that just fine. The first thing I noticed as I walked in was the smell, oh what a fabulous scent! Meat and complex spices. No other nonsense, no air freshener, no cleaning supply smell, no candles, just the smell of exactly what your here for. The cones of meat are spinning right in front of you behind the counter. What a beautiful sight. I ordered the lunch special #1. It comes with chicken shawarma, chicken kabob, kefta kabob, rice, salad, pita, and a falafel. Less than 12 bucks! Available from 12 to 3 pm, this is a great value. I'll get the negative out of the way here, I didn't care for the chicken kabob. It just felt over done, but good flavor. Also, the pita was a very generic and dry pita. Likely store bought. Not a huge deal but if pita is in your name I expect a decent one. The shawarma was spot on perfect. I've had my fair share of shawarma at this point and I'd put this up near the top, especially on the local scene. The kefta was my favorite part of the plate, the spices really show up and stand out. Perfect cook as well. The rice was nice with some citrus flavor that balanced the plate out. The salad was very basic but tasted fresh. A special mention for their spicy red sauce. THIS. This is the red sauce I always want but no one does it this well. Just the perfect heat level, at the very tip of my tolerance, with plenty of flavor to back up the spice. This is the best red sauce I think I've had period. I usually love the white sauce but catch me here sweating with a smile on my face and red sauce on everything.
