Decided to stop here for dinner since it was close by. Cute little place. A few tables, the one problem was when the door would open, depending on where you're siting, lots of cold wind tonight! Waiters were very nice and attentive. Food took a little while to get to us. The spider roll was delicious!! I ordered the chriashi sushi, even though the cost of it had me a little leery. $13.95 where most places are $19.95. I got my sushi and realized why, bare bones, sashimi on top of rice, not radishes, no marinated mushrooms, etc...It was what they said it was. LOL Fish was fresh, but yes, not fulfilling. Brother had the sushi deluxe and that too looked a little skimpy. Oh and hot tea is $2.50/person whereas at other places it's free. May go back to try the other food they serve, but will hit elsewhere for sushi. read more

Had lunch here today and I'm being generous with 2 stars because the lady inside was very nice. For $18 (includes tip), I had hot and sour soup (perhaps the most uninspired hot and sour soup I've ever tasted. The only ingredient that gave it any distinct taste was the red pepper flakes); egg roll (your typical frozen take out egg roll); fried rice (literally, the only ingredient was rice. No egg or vegetables): and Triple Delight (which was the opposite of delight. The only note the generic brown sauce has was "sour"). The portion size was about 4 tablespoons of "delight." What ever happened to owners taking pride in their products? This was barely an effort and total waste of money. read more

I visited this place today because I was craving some sushi, I was the closest to where I live. The restaurant if fairly small but clean, the staff are nice they greet nicely you when you walk in. The decor is nice and bright, they have tradition Japanese cloths and some picture on the wall it give the place a diffirent vibe. The sushi was very delicious and fresh. They sent the wrong order out and blamed it on the driver. Then I have to call them because apparently they don't know who I am, two people of the same name ordered at the same time they said. The problem wasn't the wrong food or blaming it on the driver, but the quality of food we received. If it was on time I would still give the same review. We barely ate the sushi because it was falling apart like it adhesive-ness was gone. And the fish inside was not fresh at all, I think they gave us old fish. Salmon skin was really chewy. We ordered a variety of dishes. The avocado salad had - surprise - lots of avocado. I'm so used to getting shorted on those types of dishes. Most of the rest of the dishes were "standards" and well prepared. I've eaten here in the past. It's decent, never quite "wows" me to make it a regular place, but I never really dislike it either. Dear Corbo E., I lied to you. I know I said I would seek verification from you on Asian restaurants in the DC area as you are recognized as the Asian food guru. In my defense, I didn't. I went rogue. Sadly, my rogue mission was a disaster. So, I was in the Silver Spring area and in the mood for some sushi. My yelp app led me to a small shopping center containing Siu's Asian Bistro. Siu's is a very small and dark space that has limited seating. The restaurant was basically empty with the exception of a few customers that picked up take out orders. My anxiety started to rise as I wondered what I had gotten myself into. Despite my reservations, I ordered the shrimp tempura, udon noodle bowl, Philadelphia roll, California roll and Boston roll. On to the positives: The shrimp tempura was atrociously presented. It looked like a corn dog or kabob on a skewer that was matted in tons of coconut batter. Although it looked horrible, it actually tasted pretty good. The shrimp was properly cooked and the batter, although messy, had a decent texture. Both the Philadelphia and California rolls were decent. They weren't earth shattering but compared to the other things I ordered, they were passable. The Negatives: The Boston roll is disgusting. Strong language but I'm trying to save people's taste buds! This was a bad choice that I made and I should've known better. Lettuce in a sushi roll?? I think it can be pulled off but I would trust higher end places with reputable sushi chefs. At Siu's? I don't know if the sushi chef doubles as the dish washer and maintenance man but YUCK! The biggest issue was that the lettuce was extremely bitter and that was the predominant flavor. The Udon noddle bowl is not only an insult to all udon noodle bowls but ethnic cuisine in general. If Asian tourists came to America, visited this restaurant and tried this abomination, I have no doubt that they'd be headed to their respective country's embassy to file an official complaint. Where do I begin to describe this thing? The noodles were disintegrating and had a grainy sort of texture. The broth tasted like chemicals. Two sips was enough. In conclusion, Corbo, the lesson has been learned. I can overlook your poor and misguided taste in sports teams. That being said, your title as the DMV Asian Food Ambassador is without question deserved. I humbly bow to your awesomeness. read more

And my pursuit of piscatorial perfection proceeds... After leaving the MVA's emissions test, I found this little place a couple of blocks away. Little indeed, 10 tables plus the sushi bar. They must have taken up a lot of the space for the kitchen, since the menu includes Chinese and Japanese and Thai dishes. I have my doubts when I see a lot of cutesy rolls being touted, and (a first) both a fork and chopsticks on the setup. Crossing my fingers, I order the Kirin and Chriashi that is my standard test of a sushi place. The Kirin is bottled rather than draft, but served at the correct temperature, refreshingly cool but not so icy as to kill the taste. The salad is a pleasant surprise, unrefrigerated mixed greens, no iceberg, routine ginger dressing, garnished with sesame seeds. The chirashi is served in a decorated bowl, and artfully composed (see photo). The garnishes of shiitake, shredded kombu, and pickled radish are quite nice. Tomago, surimai, and shrimp are unexceptional. Snapper, yellowtail, and salmon are pretty good, tuna is very good. The underlying rice is traditionally correct: slightly warm with hints of sugar and vinegar. The soy sauce is worth noting - low salt and high complexity rather that the usual commodity grade. Service is prompt and cordial. Prices are a buck or two higher than comparable places. Four stars with a plus - very nice but not quite reaching the foodgasm level. read more

The service was so nice. It was pretty busy when we came in to eat but food came out quickly. I really don't have much else to say other than the fact that both the service and food were fast and good. I ordered the crunchy roll and the black dragon roll. The black dragon roll was the bomb - I'm a huge fan of eel and avocado and it was just on point. Definitely give them a try! I've informed her that I would use this word as often as it might be needed, and boy did I need it at Siu's Asian Bistro. When asked for a description for her word, she replied, "not delicious." The food at Siu's is not delicious. In truth, if it was only "not delicious" I might have offered to round up from 2.5 stars. Instead the best description of taste in this restaurant is "bland." I've visited twice and ordered from both the sushi and the kitchen menus. Nothing had flavor. Tempura, bland. Noodles, bland, sauces, bland. Everything was bland. My last meal was a tempura lunch platter, one order of unagi nigiri, and a salmon skin hand roll. I walked out $25 poorer and with a craving for tempura and sushi. I am not a lover of California rolls, but I eat them often because they are a part of so many combo platters. Sure enough, the lunch specials here come with a side of what should be the easiest roll for any beginning sushi chef. Mostly imitation crab, with some avocado, and cucumber, so simple. Not at Siu's. I was handed a roll that featured a huge solid chunk of cucumber, a smear of avocado, and a pinch of imitation crab. This restaurant has the only Asian menu in this very busy (for lunch) center. Much of the business I saw came from people in business attire. If you are a part of the lunch rush here, please let me suggest Phò D'Lite, just around the corner, or if you are craving sushi, Koi, which is less than a mile away. read more

Do not eat here! I came last Friday night with a friend. I ordered the Thai basil fried rice with shrimp pretty basic dish. I even mentioned that I liked that it had alot of shrimp in the dish. Knowing that I would not finish my meal but would get it to go I purposely did not eat all the shrimp. The waitress took my plate to wrap the food for me and brought it back in a bag already tied. I went to eat the food later there were no shrimp,literally not a shrimp in sight and the portion was smaller than it should of been. They must have picked through my food. Long tome since I've given 5 stars. Attitude drives this place. You can't get more than 3 feet inside the door without someone greeting you. At this sitting, we had the Sesame Chicken, Miso Soup, hot n sour soup, Mongolian Beef. It's all slightly different from other places, and good. This place is mediocre at best. We have ordered twice from this place and both the times food was bland.

First. The food is delicious. Everything is fresh. The amount of meat is generous. The place is very clean. Best General chicken. Lots of meat. None in the area compares. The roll is big. Thats generous. It looks as good as it tastes. The place maybe small but it tastes better than big fancy places. The staff is very friendly. From the review. The none friendly staff has been fired. Which saids management cares 100%. The food is not greasy. The fish is fresh. It is so important in sushi. Anything not fresh can give you food poison. Fried rice is moist and not dry. Full of flavor and meat. If you ever have a bad experience here. Let management know. That is how you keep excellent in your favorite place. Nasty food! The wonton soup was made of fake meat and thick skin. It felt like we were eating plastic. The broth was not good as well. It was just plain chicken broth. The drunken noodles were very extremely bland and the noodles were over cook. It was very mushy. Great friendly service. We were greeted with a friendly hello and "happy new year". Nothing fancy, wood chairs and tables strip mall setup. Service fast attentive and efficient.... and very friendly. Big seaweed salad, nice fresh edamame, and 15 self picked sashimi. White tuna, maguro, hamachi, saba, and sake. (White tuna, tuna, yellow tail, mackerel, salmon)..noticed 50% of the take out and sit in clientele were Japanese / Asian and some greeted by name! Regulars!! Thin and trim as well. Next store at Chik Fila and then Panera Bread all the Lipitor - crowd were rolling in and out. The workers are super nice. The place is located in the area with the Panera, TGIF, Capital One, Five Guys, Chick Fil-a, so there is plenty of competition. This is the only asian place in there though! We ordered the wonton soup, the tuna roll, and the beef lo mien. While the prices seem great for some of the rolls, you soon realize how small they are and that they're only 6 pieces. I liked the peppery taste of the wonton soup, but the wontons wrappers were too thick for my liking. The tuna roll lacked much flavor, and the beef lo mien lacked flavor as well. read more

We love Siu's! I've eaten here any number of times, both using carry out and dining in. I have personally found dining in to be a better experience, as some of the people who handle the phone orders can be rude. The reason I give four and not five stars is due to a mishap on one of our carry out orders a time ago. The woman took the order incorrectly, charging us for things she never actually gave us. My husband went back, with the bags in hand, and she was very rude. She essentially behaved as though we could have slipped the items in question out of our bag, refusing to give us a refund or even give us the items. I didn't let this ruin Siu's for us, because we do love their sushi and there aren't that many good sushi places around the suburbs of silver spring. Most recently, my hubs and I went to eat at Siu's, for a relaxing Sunday funday lunch! We had Henry as our server, who greeted us with a smile, and took our rather complicated orders perfectly. He was very attentive, though I must confess the eating area is small, so it's not a difficult feat. That does not, however, make the exceptional service we received from Henry any less exceptional. I will continue to be a patron of Siu's, but will likely eat in and save myself the hassle of dealing with the carry-out cashier/phone people. I'd also like to note that the young lady working the phone and cashier this past Sunday is NOT the woman I spoke of in my earlier paragraph. Traveling through Maryland for work when I discovered this place. Let's just say that I liked the variety and taste of the food so much that I didn't want to explore the other restaurants in the area, and I'm here for the second time in two nights. TAKE-OUT EXPERIENCE: This place is exactly as the name implies, an Asian bistro. They offer most of the classical dishes between Japanese, Chinese, and Thai cuisines. I started yesterday with a sushi and sashimi combo, and a beef lo mein. Both were to go since I was on the run at the time. Browsing thru the menu was pretty easy, and they were fast in preparing the food. The food came well packaged, and tasted great when it was time to eat. DINE-IN EXPERIENCE: Tonight I decided to take my time and dine-in. I decided on the regular sushi entree, and the beef Pad Thai. For drinks I went with the hot Japanese green tea, and treated myself to a small hot sake. The presentation for the sashimi was excellent! The tuna was even done in a flower arrangement that was both entertaining to eat and to look at. The Pad Thai tasted great and it had a good balance between all the ingredients. The sake bottle came cleverly wrapped in a "scarf" made it if the restaurant napkin with was nice to look at, while protecting you from the heat of the bottle while pouring. The green tea tasted flavorful and they kept refilling, so the tea was always hot and enjoyable. Service here was great, and I had a great view of the Maryland sky at sunset over the nice clean plaza here. If you're passing by town like I was, definitely stop by to check out the place. If you're a local, also stop by to check it out, you might end up becoming a regular like many others I've seen coming in... the staff know them by name! read more

Went here with my hubs for our date night. We ordered a large bowl of sweet and sour soup ($5), vegetable sushi roll ($6), and crispy beef (~$12). The soup was a little salty and not very sour. The roll was decent. We both enjoyed the crispy beef entrée which was served with rice. They were generous with the portions. We took some of our leftovers to go. Food came out quick. Our server was cordial and offered to refill our water often. We noticed many people came in to get take out. Guess we will do the same next time if we ever crave Asian food and too lazy to dine in.
