The safari at Six Flags is way underrated and probably the best part of Six Flags! It's honestly amazing how many different type of animals they have and it's quite a sight to see many of them roaming together, living their best lives (and free from danger of being eaten or poached in the wild). Six Flags Great Adventure also have a great amount of land that they've promised to conserve and not develop, which I thought was a nifty fact. They do have a small, but cute souvenir shop. The one food stall they have kinda sucks though and who knows when they've last cleaned the soda machine, just being honest, but oh well. I've never done the safari until today! It was super fun and educational. Our tour guide and safari expert, Cami (or Camy) was great, knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. When you enter the safari part of the park you get on the van and then you learn about all the different animals. After you can see some reptiles. The safari part itself takes about 25-30 minutes. It's definitely worth it and I highly recommend it ! There's also a new addition to the safari called Savannah Sunset Resort where you can stay on the property in a villa and you can feed the giraffes during your stay! Pretty cool! Make this stop after you visit the park. You won't regret it. read more

Been wanting to take a trip to the Safari for a while now since I haven't been since I was a kid...back in the days of rolled-down windows and animals eating food from your car hoods...those days are long gone. Conveniently located right off I-195 with lots of fast-food and resting options nearby along Route 537/Monmouth Road - Wawa, McDonalds, Burger King, Popeyes, Taco Bell, KFC, Starbucks and Seven-11. We purchased tickets in advanced: $25 per adult and $15 for seniors and children under 48". There is a +/- $5 for each ticket depending on the day....i.e. midweek or on certain holidays. We followed the signs for the Safari (there are also lanes for Hurricane Harbor and Great Adventure) and presented our printed tickets to the booth attendant. We then proceeded on to the Safari. They do stress not to roll down your windows and maintain a slow (max. 5 mph) pace throughout the safari. Most cars kept pace except for a few who stopped for a few extra minutes to take photos of certain animals, or those who made their way closer to the road making for some great photo ops. There are two lanes so those who wish to go around can do so...and those who wanted to wait a the photo ops patiently waited for the cars up ahead to pull up. Overall is was a good experience...I wish there was a bit more to see or more animals were closers or ventured closer to the road. Also, as an avid picture-taker...taking photos with the windows up creates all kinds of glare issues....so it is really difficult to get any good and clear photos. Although the "Audio-tour" was interesting...it was only about 45 minutes and it takes about 1.5 hours to navigate through the safari...so the pacing made it very difficult to follow as you have to (or assign someone else in the car) pause and wait for the next area. In the past they offered and tour truck where you can ride around in a high truck which has an open top allowing for some great photos...it didn't seem to be open this year. I hope it returns in the future since that will ease the issues of driving yourself. At the end of the safari, there is a small gift shops with some stuffed animals. There are also bathrooms available there. I don't know if the experience is currently worth the admission prices....keep in mind that everyone in the vehicle requires a ticket...so a family of two adults and two children under 48" will pay about $85-90 after fees....I don't think that is worth it based on the experience, or lack there of. I believe more appropriate prices would be $15/10. I also was unable to find any discounts for the Safari. read more

I personally enjoyed the safari - my favorite part had to be the giraffes!! They decided to step onto the road and block all traffic so when we drove past them we got a close and personal encounter We took about 1.5 hours to drive around the whole safari. Sometimes the animals would be away or hiding, but that's expected. Honestly, it's worth visiting with a season pass since it's included but if you're paying separately for it, I don't think it's reallyy worth it! read more

It's been forever since my last visit to the Safari & I must say this was a pleasant visit back! I forget how big it is they seem to now have it as a separate entrance not from the park, in this area u can grab some refreshments & some food options. We got our drinks refilled & got some dipping dots ice cream not bad. Rainbow ice cream better more refreshing than the vanilla one. Before or after u are done w the Safari they have some replies outside that u can view that was decent. As for the safari u now board a jeep ride & go about the safari with a guide which is nice. There's so much to see it's pretty cool, lots of animals nice open space it was a nice ride takes about 45 minutes to go though it good amount of time. One of the newest attractions here is that they now have a new resort inside the Safari called, Savannah Sunset resort & spa which seems pretty cool, u can preview the rooms while inside the regular park. Overall it's nice to see after such a long time. The animals certainly have a nice cushy home here & seem well taken care off.. worth the visit. read more

I went on a light rainy day with my family. Although it is a bit drizzling, we were able to see alot of animals too. My girls were both soo excited. We enjoyed our time at the safari. Something to do with the family even on a rainy day. By the time we finish with the safari, the rain stopped and we stopped by the theme park to grab something to eat. This is an older Safari Park and it shows. They do a great job of keeping the animals healthy but there is just not real estate for these wild animals to live a decent life. Six Flags is not investing money in the park anymore due to the changing demographic of the clientele. read more

The hotel was a true African Safari view and huts that were comfortable and so relaxing. You could walk out of your room and watch the animals roaming from a safe distance of course or you could view from your room from an open window view and enjoy while drinking coffee. They also have balcony views. The food was delicious and made to order. You could eat in the restaurant or have the food delivered and set up in your room. We were able to get the VIP tour of the animals were we were safely up close and personal with tigers, loins, oh my. LOL! We were able to feed the giraffe. Then the shuttle took us down to Six Flags were we could enjoy the park with the worries of parking or driving. The tickets to the park were included in your stay. This place is such a hidden treasure located in New Jersey. I would absolutely stay again and look forward to future visits. In addition, the customer service from the staff is Top Tier. Highly recommend this place for the family, couples and even individuals. read more

Came here with family, and enjoyed our tour! We came at the end of August on a Friday so it wasn't that busy. Before you enter, there is no food allowed so make sure you leave your food in the car. Keep in mind that there is no access from the main park to the safari so its best you come here first or last since you would have to drive here if you are planning to visit multiple parks in one day. The tour itself was lovely and we got to see many animals. Our tour guide was very informative and explained everything in detail. My favorite part was the Giraffes since we were able to see them up close. I actually liked that the Safari Truck was used because I wasn't sure if our car would have been damaged or scratched if we drove it. It would probably add to the traffic or long lines if personal vehicles were used in general. Additionally, they have a small reptile section with snakes, lizards other small critters. Also, there is a souvenir shop with some snacks. If you want to avoid crowds come on a weekday. The whole tour lasted for about 45 minutes give or take. Would come back here again! read more

Driving through the six flags safari is a sacred activity for me. I have used my season pass to come here weekly, multiple times even, because I absolutely love seeing the beautiful, majestic animals. I come here with my mom and this is now a special activity we love to do together. So much that right now with it being January all we keep talking about is we cannot wait for the day it is spring and the safari once again opens. There is a warm and fuzzy feeling I get thinking of the safari, so I'd like to detail my day leading to the safari and why it means so much more to me than just "driving to six flags". My mom and I get up early for breakfast and will discuss how excited we are to see "such as such" animals. We almost know the different animals by sight now and wonder what they'll be doing "today". I have so many videos and photos of these special animals I feel that I've grown close to them in a way. We've named some of them so when we see them we can refer to them by name. It's an adorable pastime between a mother and daughter and I seriously can't stress how much I look forward to going here every year. It's also nice that we get to drive through ourselves because my mother has severely arthritic knees and cannot walk even from a parking lot, let alone to get up inside the high up vehicles they have for some guests to do an outdoor experience. Being able to drive in our own vehicle gives my mother joy to be able to do fun activities with me and not have to sadly say she 'cannot do this activity because her knees hurt her so bad'. I've seen joy removed from my mother's eyes when she can't do some activities with me anymore, so the drive through safari is, as I said, a sacred and loving activity. I love seeing the animals and their beauty, and taking photos of them when I can. Otherwise, phones and cameras are non existent to us as we are doing something that isn't done often anymore: living in the moment. read more

This was such a fun safari and zoo!! My family and I had such a good time driving around and interacting with the animals. I think it's a much better thing than walking around in a huge park lol! We got to drive around at our own pace on a Monday!! The animals came close to the car and the kids loved it. I would definitely go again. I wish I had a zoo like this growing up. The only thing is you have to keep your windows up the whole time for safety. That's the only down fall. But I understand the liability. read more

Didn't think I would like being driven thru rather than diving myself. For the most part it was a pleasant experience. I just think they go too fast. If they went slower I would have seen the ostrich egg the guid saw but I guess it wasn't scripted for that so none of us saw it as we went by too fast. Really went fast thru the NJ part. Didn't show anything. Again not in the corporate script. Don't think that was the idea the creators had. Couldn't get pics and actually look at the animals. Not enough time. Slow it down. Brought my girl to six flags for her bday and of course we have to do the safari first. I personally think safari's are lame but she loves animals in captivity so here's how it went. First thing I'm going to say is the habitats are garbage. It looks like they just dropped exotic animals in someone's gated backyard in NJ. The most popular animal you see in there is the ostrich. Keep in mind they do have a decent amount of animals and they have an audio tour you can follow to learn about them but if you want a real animal adventure I'd just go to a zoo. You drive through at a max speed of 5 mph. The best part is when you get to the giraffe part because they seem to enjoy walking between cars. They also seem to enjoy tasting your car because they spent a good amount of time licking mine. I love six flags but they need to invest more money in their safari or something. They now have the Safari trucks that take you through. The trucks are very uncomfortable. It is hard for seniors and disabled individuals. We will not be purchasing tickets next year. read more

Took our kids here today to experience the drive thru safari and it was very nice. It took about an hour and 15 mins to drive thru. We didn't stop very long at each spot, but still took our time. We were pleased to see that the animals had a lot of room to roam. They seemed very well taken care of as well. It was fun and definitely recommend! read more

I used to go through the drive thru safari all the time when I was younger. Granted things are a bit different: such as the Monkeys can't jump all over your car like they used too! We really enjoyed being able to drive and stop at our own pace. Prices have really increased in comparison to a long time ago (obviously ) but 19.99 per person is a bit much in my opinion. Hoping maybe they will bring back the standard one fee per car. There's a pretty good variety of animals that you can see and lots of opportunities to stop and take pics. Savannah Sunset at the Six Flags safari has great promise but ultimately left us disappointed. On the plus side, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the "glamping" tents are comfortable and \ well appointed. While appreciated, these were to be expected given the high cost of staying at the resort. What was not expected was checking into our room and finding leftover food from a previous guest in the cabinet. It was also surprising how long food orders took to be processed given the small number of guests on site (1 hour for bacon and eggs with toast). Perhaps most disappointing was the fact that safari park access was much more restricted than one might have expected given the price of stay. They offer a brief giraffe feeding first thing in the morning and a single resort only park tour by truck that lasts about an hour. If you want to see more of the animals, you either must pay $90+/head for a VIP visit or use your park pass to join the regular line at the entrance Wild Safari entrance (this reached 4.5 hours wait time by early afternoon while we were there). read more

It's an okay way to spend an afternoon to drive through. Definitely not worth a drive from Philadelphia, though. Some of the animals seem unbelievably sad. There were like 20 lions in close proximity with nothing to do. The inly highlight was that there were a ton of emu babies. Never thought i'd ever see that- they were quite cute as they ate one piece of grass at a time. The lines here are unbelievably slow, though. Took 15 minutes to even enter the place when we hd 2 people in front of us. Bad signage, too- there were a few conflicting signs that caused us some headache. Overall, not the worst way to spend an afternoon, but nothing exceptional here. May as well just go to a zoo. read more

Due to the heat we were looking for something that the family could do that involved air conditioning. We realized that you could ride through the safari in the comfort of your own vehicle and decided to come here. Only a couple types of animals came close to the car and to me it seemed like they had blocked off some of the road ways/areas to make the ride shorter. Everything seemed outdated and like the whole thing needed a refresh. Also we didn't see any toys for the animals to play with (you know for example at the zoo they give elephants tires and other objects to play with). But I will say the kids really enjoyed riding through so I was happy we went. We arrived right when it first opened and it wasn't crowded. There are two lanes but everyone was respectful and didn't block each others views by stopping right next to each other. At most there was maybe 2-3 cars near us at some points and then people would either pass us or we would pass them since you get to drive at your own pace. It was empty enough to where we would drive stretches and see no cars in front of or behind us. When we were leaving it was starting to fill up and there were many cars in line entering. I'd suggest you try to get there when they open so you can really take your time and not have to worry about people blocking your view or tailgating you. I think it's overpriced for what you're getting to see. A zoo would have been more fun and we would have been able to get a much closer look at all of the animals. But the convenience of being able to be in the air conditioned car was what we needed on this hot day. I'm giving it 4 stars for the joy that it brought my kids. They liked the safari and at the end of the day that's what it's all about. We went and can check this place off the list but it was not exciting or interesting enough to come back. read more

Love the animals here so that's great, but they looked miserable and one of the animals was limping, so I'm not sure how good they are to their animals but it doesn't seem good. But people who work here were downright RUDE, and couldn't be bothered to help us. The lady with the glasses at outpost 4 was SO nasty and basically screamed at my fiancé and I. To see animals is amazing in person but not to see them in their natural environment is disturbing. The animals looked board and the lions were stuffed in cages. There was nothing to do besides lay there. No toys, nothing to climb no water hole. Very little shade from the hot weather. When I left I was crying seeing bears that where male nourished and could barely walk to a three legged lion. This is like exploiting animals in the most disgusting way and I'm embarrassed that I went through with my nephew. It was like a road side zoo. These animals deserve so much better that what six flags safari is providing for them. If you want to help don't support them and don't buy tickets. Make all the animals go to sanctuaries. Please don't support animals that are being treated poorly!!!! Go visit The sanctuary that know and show you to properly take care of these exotic animals. Do research before you go !
