This is a fun, light hearted play that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's also only about 90 minutes, so it's a good option if you're short on time. The cast consists of just six women and an all female band. It tells the story of Henry VIII's six wives. Each of the women has a unique, bold personality and brings high energy and sass to each scene. For the most part, the music is upbeat and modern. The songs are originals, but detectably reminiscent of pop and R&B hits. The play evokes themes of women's empowerment, owning one's story, and reimagining history. Saw this last night. The energy, singing, and comedy were on point, however I've seen plenty of Broadway shows and this doesn't make it to my top 10. The costumes were lacking. I would have loved to see the clothing from that era and not what looked like tutu skirts with glitter. It was a poor selection. I also didn't like the set decor as it never changed. If you wouldn't had listen in on the the lyrics you would have no-idea that this took place in the 1500. It all just left me wanting more substance, but in the same breath, I was happy when it ended. One of my highlights was that the entire cast even musicians were all women. This place gets packed with preteens. I wondered why? As some of the lyrics are raunchy. But if their parents don't mind, then not my problem. They have a cool selection of merch to choose from and your usual snacks and drinks are ridiculously over priced for no reason. I wouldn't return. Fyi: The Lena Horne theater is pretty small. You can enjoy the show from every angle. Don't kill yourself trying to get expensive tickets. We purchased tickets in the center of the orchestra, in row N, and saw their faces perfectly. The soundtrack sounded better in the car ride back home. It was way too loud and although they sing great, I couldn't understand some words. This play is pretty short with no intermission. Thank goodness for that because the chairs are uncomfortable. I took my nephew, who is 14, to the show. I was worried he wouldn't like or get it, but he loved it! The show was phenomenal. The colors, music, and dancing storyline were all so good! The process of leaving and coming in was quick. The show was at 2 pm, and doors opened promptly at 1:30 pm. By 1:45 pm, we were in our seats (the line was around the block to get in). Everyone who worked in the theatre was so lovely and accommodating. The women's bathroom was very long, but it moved pretty quickly. They offered cute Merchandise and cute drinks named after the girls. I will be back to watch the show again. read more

This was a very good and big surprise. My daughter saw it earlier this year and raved about it but what does a 16 year know. She pushed me to hear the soundtrack and I fell in love with the beats. Took my wife for our 22nd anniversary and WOW - the most awesome time and production in our Broadway. It's up there with Hamilton. The ladies singing individually were beautiful and sang to an extreme that left my mouth open. Together, all six had a harmony that was effortless and just attracted you into the play more. The ladies at the instruments were supreme and left me wanting to learn to play guitar and bass. The entire show felt like a major concert. The only negative thing is it ended. I could've stayed another hour or two listening to those ladies sing. Boppin to the music on the second row of the mezzanine and seeing my wife smile and enjoy herself really made the night for us. And the best part of the evening: I got a history lesson through six beautiful women and their voices.l - sorry it's the teacher in me. SIX easily dethroned my prior favorite Broadway show. The show itself is a pop concert that features King Henry VIII's wives, or rather for the sake of this review, queens. I mean, should you watch the show, you know that's what they are - queens, magnificent queens. At around an hour and a half, this is probably one of the shortest shows you'll see on Broadway, but it's a concert and there's no intermission, so keep that in mind. Tickets are expensive now as this only premiered a few months ago, but believe me that the money is well spent. The story goes that they're essentially a pop group fighting to see who is the lead singer. This, mixed in with some history, has the queens with their own solos, as well as their group songs. It's entertaining, it's educational, and it's elucidating. Please do yourself a favor and check this one out, especially if you believe in girl power. We were seated in the 2nd to last row of the balcony off the middle aisle and still had a great experience. The music and vocals of the cast were strong. Highly recommend the show! This caps off the 17th Broadway show I've had the pleasure of attending. Been hearing about this show from a few friends and by luck of Broadway lottery, we sat in the very first row. Wow!! The energy was effervescent. What a fierce, fun, and real show. It felt more like a pop concert than a musical, but all the musical numbers were carried splendidly by everyone on stage. I couldn't ask for anything more. The Lena Horne Theater is a beautiful and intimate space for this fabulous musical, and the staff there are super nice and courteous. This exuberant broadway show had the true misfortune of opening at the beginning of the pandemic, which can be the only reason it has not gotten as much attention as it deserves. Although the multitude of awards Six recently got speak for this show's true quality, I am going to add my two cents here in an attempt to increase the low number of reviews it has on Yelp. Six has the innovative idea to make history fun and informative by giving historical figures a 21st century voice. It teaches the audience the hardships of the six wives of Henry the 8th through each song, which reveals the story of each of the wives one at a time and brings it all together under the themes of fighting women's abuse and empowering women. What's even more impressive is that Six achieves this in around 90 minutes without the need of an intermission. Sure, there are some swear words here and there, so you may want to be careful bringing your little one to this particular show, but the choice of language used makes the show all the more compelling. Each of the six actresses have amazing talent to not only sing with a wide range and depth, but also act and dance beautifully as they are mid-sing. The songs are well-written with funny lyrics and are extremely catchy. Six gave me a similar feeling of happiness as when I first saw Kinky Boots with Billy Porter in its original cast. So my review has more to do with the pricing vs the performance. We purchased 3 tickets for the show and it was wonderful but I was very surprised that it was only about 70 minutes with no intermission. The show started ironically 6 minutes late and we were out on the street at the 80 minute mark. Now that not be a major issue if the show pricing was $60 a ticket, but we paid $100+ for orchestra left tickets in the back. So it was about $1.42 a minute. I just would have enjoyed a few more songs bring me back to $1 per minute. The peasants request more time with the royals. read more

The one who had the worst time with henry gets to be the lead singer! It was told from a different perspective than usual and had a lot of great music and comedy. At the beginning of the show, I was wondering about this show. Some of the actresses do not have a classically beautiful appearance. However, by about 15 minutes in, I did not care what they looked like. By 30 minutes, I could see how all of them have real star power and I could not take my eyes off of them. The show is awesome! As has been described, it is a history of HVIII's wives simplified and made funny. Each actress plays their role perfectly and we grow to love all of them. The writing and choreography are brilliant. Six is a funny, high energy, never-boring, concert-style musical where the six wives of Henry the VIII tell their story in the style of pop divas competing for the top queen "crown." The concept is about as far as you can get from an Anything Goes-esque, big band musical, but that's ok! I can assure you that you will be clapping along to each one of the queens as they try to win you over in song. Some things to know about the theatre -- the Lena Horne is small and intimate...the entire orchestra section is relatively close to the stage so the seats are great...and luckily not so sardine-y. That being said, the bar situation upstairs could use way more organization...the line was actually not very long but needed at least one person directing traffic. My recommendation would be to eliminate the merchandise/souvenir booth on that floor as it was not used and simply in the way. All in all, Six is a must-see for anyone visiting the city. read more
