I have learned that it's best to call two weeks out as it can take more than one fitting to get your costume right. The owner (?) asked what we were looking for and then helped us assemble costumes literally head to toe for around $100 each which felt like a solid value. My costume included a gown, gloves, hat, shoes, jewelry (necklace, earrings, bracelet) and for my spouse his 3+ piece suit, shirt, krawatt, tie tack, hat, cuff links, shoes, shoe covers, walking stick, and so many other little details. I know it's tempting to just buy some thing on amazon these days but we loved supporting a local business and got SO many compliments all night. We also loved that we didn't have to buy anything to add to our closet /never get worn again or chase down all the bits and bobbles to really make our costumes special. Now regarding the staff- to my surprise, I saw everyone working there have a smile on their face and a kind word to say. I even told one staff member "I almost didn't come today because I was so concerned by the reviews you guys have on Yelp.." Turns out, the company DID take notice of the reviews and poor costumer service, and it appears those individuals are.. "no longer here". What I saw instead was extreme kindness, attentiveness (from multiple staff members) and an experience that absolutely MADE my weekend. To the girl on staff (whose name I'm so sorry I've forgotten- but brown slick back bun) who complimented my hair, helped me every time I needed something, and frankly made my experience- you are an absolute rockstar. But then, I returned recently while visiting family, and had a wonderful experience. The tenant greeted us warmly, and explained which pieces were for sale and which were only for rental. She gave us some recommendations for other shops in the area as well. She was just so sweet! I tried on a selection of items, and settled on a vintage red mod dress. It was fairly priced, at about $50, and the dress was in good condition. I packed it in my suitcase, and flew home to the east coast... when I put it on for work for the first time, I felt something stabbing into my hip! I took the dress off, flipping it inside out. I pulled open the side seam allowance, and there was a huge, rusty metal clothes pin in the seam. It stabbed me! I love the dress, but I was disappointed that the shop didn't spot the pin at intake. It could have been dangerous! Overall I have positive feelings about the shop, but if you purchase second hand from here, please be sure to look over your clothing before wearing it. I'd hate for someone else to be stabbed!

She took my measurements, explained sizing, patterns, fabrics, looked through a book of men's fashions with me, and allowed me to try on multiple ensembles--all this for one guy, looking to rent one suit at an undetermined date in the future. Her shop is amazing, filled floor to ceiling with every kind of period costume and accessory. In the little corner of this labyrinthine place that was my fitting room, there were fur trapper's garbs, a papoose on the wall, canes, hats, crowns, a sword, and a robust selection of gentlemen's attire that gave me many options for addressing the necessesaries of my attire and equippage. I am very grateful for the chance to come here to transform into someone from another time and place. Thank you.
