I had an amazing experience at SIXT at IAH Airport. When I arrived at the counter, I was greeted by an outstanding agent, Emma Jackson. She was kind, friendly, and very knowledgeable. She welcomed me with a smile and even went out of her way to greet my daughter and niece. We had a great conversation, and she took the time to explain the different insurance options in a way that made sense. We also discussed possible upgrade options, although we decided to stay with our original selection, a BMW X3. The checkout process was smooth and easy. I originally booked a Toyota RAV4/intermediate off-road vehicle through Expedia, but at pickup I was first assigned a Toyota Tacoma and then changed to a Toyota Camry. The vehicle class was downgraded, but I did not receive any price adjustment or refund for the downgrade. After returning the car, I later received a damage claim. I disputed it and provided my rental details and evidence. SIXT eventually reviewed the case and closed it without any further claim against me, which I appreciate. However, the rental experience was stressful because of the vehicle change, no refund for the downgrade, and the later damage dispute. If I can rent a luxury car for about the same price as non-luxury which Sixt usually offers, I'm in. For this trip I got an X5 with only 2k miles. The miles are usually higher but seems like all rental car companies have higher mile vehicles lately. I've rented mostly BMWs (5 and 3 series). I received the notice that my cancellation was acknowledged and a refund would be sent. That's the RUB! Customer Service horrible. I prepaid my reservation at one price and upon getting ready to head to the airport for pickup I noticed the price increased by $50. I called customer service and they would not remove the additional charge and the only way I could be refunded without a charge was to cancel the reservation which left me without a vehicle. Most crapped out car I have ever rented. Apart from numerous dings, while driving from the airport I noticed that neither side mirror was working properly - the L would not move down all the way, limiting road visibility, while the R didn't move in any direction, making driving dangerous. On arrival at my hotel, I immediately contacted Sixt to let them know of these issues and requested a replacement car. I was told that my request would be marked urgent and someone would get back to me very soon. About EIGHTEEN HOURS later (so much for urgency) I was contacted by an agent from Sixt, who informed me that I would be able to pick up a replacement car the FOLLOWING DAY at the airport if I wished. Due to the distance from the airport and time involved, I chose not to change the car but rather drove it rarely and used Ubers instead. I also noted that the tire pressures were way off (L front 46, R front 34, L rear 35, R rear 47). Upon returning the car and informing the attendant of the mirror issues and problematic tire pressures, she simply took no notice and wrote nothing down, leading me to suspect that the next customer would receive the vehicle in the same dangerous state as I did. The next thing I received was a notification that I was responsible for a damaged L side mirror! Eventually I was able to have that issue closed without any charge to me. First and last time renting from Sixt. I should have read the reviews before renting from them. Seems to be a pattern of charging for so-called "damage". read more

TD;LR: Long overdue, but sharing my story of misconduct from Sixt Downtown Houston. Apparent fraud situation occuring. I reserved a car from Sixt Downtown Houston for Valentine's Day weekend. Before this, I had reserved at this location multiple times, and despite varying experiences with the staff, my reservations have been fairly seamless. Never had an accident with any cars that I rented and returned it in proper condition. When I arrived, I was asked if I wanted to car that I had two cars to choose from (a Camry or a Volkswagen Jetta IL-EJ51603). I was in a rush so I chose the Volkswagen. The agent that helped me took 10 minutes to take the elevator to whatever floor and finally brought the car down to me to view. When the agent brought it to me, she said that she had no idea that the mirror was broken and the other damages to the car. There was a plethora of damages, which included scratches and a busted side mirror that I could not adjust. This was a personal hazard and should not have even been in their roster of cars. Instead of offering to give me a new car at no charge, she said that I could pay more for a change in car or take this one. She had quickly forgotten that she had offered me another car and instead, created a situation where it was this or having to wait another 10 minutes for her to get another car, which I would have to pay more for. I reluctantly took this one because I was in a rush. My major mistake was not taking photos of the car before I left. I drove the car and had no accidents, and returned it before it was due. However, the same week I received a message saying that I was being charged for two scratches on the car tires. They were so small, I had to squint to see what they were referring to. I immediately petitioned to have a deeper examination into the situation from the main offices because whoever cause the car to be in that situation caused the scratches that I was being accused of doing. No one ever contact me and sent a lifeless email saying that I was responsible for the damages. Since I didn't take pictures, they said I didn't have anyway to prove my claims. I then reached out to Woo Kim, the branch manager, to get the reports on the car since there was so much damage to the car. He picked up and lied and said that he would help and get more information. He even offered to refund me some money because he knew that car was unfit to be driven. However, he never got back to me. I emailed him, called him - he never replied. They immediately sent the damages to subrogation and are charging a crazy amount to fix two small scratches. For months, I had been reaching out for information about the process and transparency, and have been completely ignored. It's apparent that SIXT's model is to attach a customer with a damage they didn't cause so they can recoup some money on cars that have are already unfit to be occupied. I am sure that I am not the only person that has had a damage fee applied to them for this car. This needs to be investigated. I am horribly disgusted by the malicious bureaucracy and indifference that SIXT has shown me and probably has shown countless others. Clearly, the Houston Downtown branch needs to be closed because of the lack of transparency and the apparent fraud that has been committed. The fact that they gave a sub-optimal car to customers (I could have easily got in an accident), assigning unfair charges to customers because they can, and the general indifference that they have shown customers, are all reason to close down this branch. However, it is the main offices indifference and lack of transparency with their customers that showcase that SIXT overall is a company to avoid if you are renting a car. Do better, SIXT. I hope this review helps someone know to avoid the Downtown Houston SIXT and SIXT in general because it will only cause you an unnecessary amount of personal harm. This is my 3 time renting with sixt, twice in Texas and once in Florida. The customer service was amazing at all locations. I'm able to rent luxury SUVs for the price of a compact sedans. My last experience with Kareem in San Antonio was great. He explained everything thoroughly, cracked a few jokes, and sent me on my way in less than 10min. The absolute worst experience ever! I should've known from my first interaction with Jeremy that Sixt was pure garbage. Jeremy (Check In associate) had a nonchalant, condescending attitude. I repeatedly declined an upgrade; yet he continued to push it which tells me that there's another motive for those upgrades. I asked about the deposit. He didn't care to explain its purpose. After check in: I picked up my keys from upstairs. The associate was pleasant; however the FIRST car smelled of marijuana. I requested a second car. The SECOND car smelled of marijuana too. What's the probability of two cars smelling like marijuana? I returned the car and mistakenly left my bags in the trunk. When I returned, the associate told me that the cars are NOT outsourced for cleaning and are cleaned by non-English speaking SIXT employees downstairs. So if the car never left SIXT's possession, why haven't my items (portable car battery with cables, Bluetooth, earrings) been returned to lost and found area? SIXT clearly knew who owned the items since the company had my ID, address and other verifiable information. Just because someone leaves something in a car doesn't give the employees permission to keep it. Yeah, you have a sign that says you're not responsible for items left. They overcharged me. I had already paid for rental for the entire trip from Expedia and even got protection from Expedia. I know they mentioned charging for Ezpass, which was 15$ per day, so it should only be 135 extra, but I was charged at the end of the rental for 300$ (which was for nine days). They are adding some additional fees for nothing without any real explanation. It's a good thing I am only going to Houston for a one-time event. I would never rent from Sixt again. The rental car had 19k miles, and the maintenance light was on the entire time. No one takes care of the vehicles over there. I strongly advise you to refrain from renting a car from Sixt. I booked and prepaid for a 7-seater SUV for December 24, 2025 to December 29, 2025 to pickup at the SIXT in IAH airport. I walked to the rental company to get our prepaid rental and we were told they were out of cars and did not have our PREPAID rental car. The only car that was available to seat 7 passengers was a minivan. I booked the car far in advance and prepaid to make sure that when I got there I had the car I wanted. Mind you we were there for our daughter's wedding and it was Christmas Eve and we were tired. I am still trying to get my money back from them and Expedia has reached out to them 3 times and they have not responded. I have a case that is still open. I should have learned from our trip in October 2025 when they also did not have our car available. However, I thought for sure they would have our prepaid car ready. We had to go to the other car dealers and luckily Alamo came through with an 8 passenger SUV. Unfortunately, I had to pay twice as much as my prepaid amount because we were stuck. Warning: Do not rent a car from SIXT. SIXT is notorious for scamming their customers. Here is how the SIXT scam works. First they rent your car which likely has some pre-existing scratches. Like a responsible customer you take pictures of the pre-existing damage. You return the car in the exact same condition as when you rented it. A month later SIXT sends you an email falsely claiming you caused the damage. You provide the pictures of the pre-existing damage, they refuse to dismiss their claim. You refuse to pay because you read all over the internet that SIXT is a scam company trying to extort their customers with concocted vehicle damages. So they sell your "debt" to a collections company who then files a negative debt report with the three major credit bureaus. A few months later you attempt to get a loan and realize that your A+ credit is now a B- at best. You have worked your whole life for A+ credit, and now one sleazy unethical company named SIXT has wrecked it. SIXT is a scam. In 2025 SIXT settled a class action lawsuit for $11 million for this scam. Stay far far away from SIXT rental car agency. read more
