I had a reservation, arrived on site and started the process of renting a car. As part to the process Avis verifies that your license is authentic by using a machine at the counter. Makes total sense, I get it. Well, despite being authentic my license did not pass the test. Odd, but a not a big deal as it's a real license and there has to be another process to verify my license is real. So, the employee calls the 800 to the company of the machine and explains the situation. They say that my license is probably a little dirty and to just clean the edges. Cool, no problem. She then calls her manager to explain the situation. Her manager tells her that regardless of if my license passes the test after cleaning it, she is not allowed to rent a car to me. This is where the problem is. First, the employee was not aware of the policy. And like, this is a pretty big deal if you're expecting to rent a car and then can't. Second, it doesn't matter if you have a valid, authentic license, you still can't rent a car. Third, of course not manager was on site too. Fourth, there wasn't a way to escalate the situation. I mean, I can't be the only person in the history of renting a car that didn't have a pristine license and failed the test on the first go around. Long story short, I took my business elsewhere as there were no other options. From a customer service standpoint this was catastrophically disappointing. You would think with such a stiff, inflexible policy the employees would at least know about it and be like "hey, you need to make sure your license is super clean before I test it b/c you only get one shot at this." But no, they were clueless. Oh yeah, after I wiped the corners of my license off she ran it again and it totally passed. But I still wasn't allowed to rent a car. All aspects of this situation were handled poorly. I would actively advocate you avoid this location and possibly Avis in general. I know I will.

Overall, our experience was smooth, fast, and efficient. I booked our rental car through Costco Travel because: 1. There was a small discount compared to booking directly with Alamo. 2. Costco Travel gives you one free additional driver. 3. Costco Travel has no cancellation fee. 4. With Costco Travel, you don't pay until after you've returned your car. There are other advantages to booking a rental car through Costco Travel, but those are the ones I remember as I write this review. We arrived at the IAH Rental Car Center around 4:49pm on a Friday. It was pretty calm. Not many people. There were only three customers ahead of us in line at Alamo, with two Alamo employees occupied assisting other customers. My wife noticed a QR code on a sign near the line that allowed us to bypass the line by checking in online (phone). Convenient. My only real gripe with this experience was the refueling charge wasn't clear. When checking in and following the prompts on my phone, I'm pretty sure I agreed to a refueling charge that was less than $4.45 per gallon. When I returned the car, I was charged $4.45 per gallon of used fuel. It wasn't worth asking about at the time, so I just accepted it and moved on. There is value in the convenience of not having to refuel yourself. I was charged $87.13 total. That total consisted of a one-day rental at $49.00, a 7% Costco discount ($3.43), a $14.23 refueling charge at $4.45 per gallon, and six different taxes and fees. We had a Toyota Camry and it drove great. It proved to be a perfect car for our quick trip.

From the moment we arrived, Taylor was warm, welcoming, professional, and made the entire rental process such a pleasant experience. Taylor took great care of my brother and made everything so easy and seamless. You can truly tell when someone enjoys providing great customer service, and Taylor definitely went above and beyond to make us feel valued. We rented a beautiful BMW 7 Series, and we were actually the first people to drive it--it had only 14 miles on it! What an amazing experience! Our entire experience with SIXT was fantastic. When it was time to return the car, we were equally impressed with how well organized and easy the rental car return process was at IAH Airport. We simply returned the car, took the escalator or elevator upstairs, and caught the shuttle directly to our terminal. It was incredibly fast and easy! My travel consisted only of driving from the airport to my hotel in Katy, very limited local driving near the hotel (with most destinations within walking distance), and returning to the airport on Sunday. Despite reviewing my route, the agent strongly insisted that I purchase the toll package and warned that I would pay significantly more without it. Based on this representation, I agreed. In reality, I only passed through two tolls, each clearly posted at $1.50 for two-axle vehicles. Even accounting for the return trip, the total toll cost would be approximately $6.00 (four tolls total). This amount is far less than the $38.31 charged and confirms that the information provided to me was inaccurate and misleading. I am also concerned that this interaction reflects sales pressure to purchase unnecessary add-on services rather than transparent customer guidance. After researching this issue on the Better Business Bureau website, Yelp, Google Reviews, and your company's own customer reviews, I found numerous complaints describing the same experience customers being pressured into purchasing toll packages and other add-ons that were not needed. Everything was quick and efficient, and it wasn't crowded during our two visits. It was quiet, actually. To give you an idea of how fast everything was, we landed in Terminal A, exited the secured area, and went down the escalators to baggage claim and ground transportation at 4:40pm on a Friday. We were inside our rental car by 5:02pm. Those 22 minutes included walking to and riding on the rental car shuttle, checking in with our rental car agency (Alamo Rent a Car), and walking to and loading up our rental car. Returning our rental car was as fast as could possibly be, the following Saturday at 3:46pm. I was greeted by an Alamo employee as soon as I pulled up and parked. The return address is 17330 Palmetto Pines, Houston, TX 77032. Follow the signs from there. Alamo's QR-code check-in process made picking up our rental car fast. Once I got an electronic copy of my insurance, he said I would still have to pay the $20 a day because my insurance was not appropriate, "deductible is too high, ma'am." This transaction took about 45 minutes, no joke! I will never rent at this or any Nextcar location.  My husband and I are in agreement with this, despite the fact that other states, with real agents live, 3D have been more reasonable. Our last transaction with Nextcar.

Run from this company. At least you'll be getting somewhere on your own two feet.
