I had a very disappointing experience with Alamo. The vehicle I received had speakers that didn't work, which was frustrating from the start. But what's even worse is that after returning the car, I was charged three times more than the agreed-upon rental price. How is it possible to charge a customer more than what was confirmed at the time of booking? This is unacceptable and has left me extremely frustrated. I would caution anyone renting from Alamo to double-check charges carefully and be prepared for poor service. 0 stars they are partnered with national which i wouldnt use either. We had a good experience with this Alamo Rent a Car location at the IAH Houston Rental Car Center at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Overall, our experience was smooth, fast, and efficient. I booked our rental car through Costco Travel because: 1. There was a small discount compared to booking directly with Alamo. 2. Costco Travel gives you one free additional driver. 3. Costco Travel has no cancellation fee. 4. With Costco Travel, you don't pay until after you've returned your car. There are other advantages to booking a rental car through Costco Travel, but those are the ones I remember as I write this review. We arrived at the IAH Rental Car Center around 4:49pm on a Friday. It was pretty calm. Not many people. There were only three customers ahead of us in line at Alamo, with two Alamo employees occupied assisting other customers. My wife noticed a QR code on a sign near the line that allowed us to bypass the line by checking in online (phone). Convenient. My only real gripe with this experience was the refueling charge wasn't clear. When checking in and following the prompts on my phone, I'm pretty sure I agreed to a refueling charge that was less than $4.45 per gallon. When I returned the car, I was charged $4.45 per gallon of used fuel. It wasn't worth asking about at the time, so I just accepted it and moved on. There is value in the convenience of not having to refuel yourself. I was charged $87.13 total. That total consisted of a one-day rental at $49.00, a 7% Costco discount ($3.43), a $14.23 refueling charge at $4.45 per gallon, and six different taxes and fees. We had a car reserved 4 months in advance and completed online check-in 2 days before arrival, yet after hours of waiting, we were told no vehicle was available. This affected around 20 families, not just us. The staff showed zero empathy and no real solution. They initially mentioned an Uber voucher, then later denied it. We have been flying to Houston to visit family for years now. It is not unusual that we rent a car from the Alamo/Enterprise car rental at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Our past experiences have been good, and we initially picked Alamo because of their reputation. Tonight, when we arrived, they did not have the car seats for our kids that we paid for when we made our reservation a month ago. Let me explain how monumentally stupid a fuckup this is. 1.) I would assume that Alamo would know that even if we weren't monstrously neglectful, it is literally illegal in Texas to drive around with young children who are not secured in appropriate car seats. We rented a car with car seats because we had no other transportation. In the absence of said car seats, we effectively have no car and no transportation from the airport to where we were staying. 2.) It is the year of our lord 2025; when you pay money to reserve something online a month in advance, you must have a massive problem with your inventory control if you tell the customers who made said reservation that you just found out, right when they got there, that you do not have the thing they paid you for. The car reservation episode of Seinfeld aired in 1991. That was 34 years ago. Get your shit together. 3.) If you have now marooned a family with rapidly spiraling small kids coming to town to visit a terminally ill family member, it's usually good company policy to bend your ass over backwards to make it right. Instead, we got a glassy-eyed look and a shrug from the rep at the garage. He said it was the holidays and there had been a rush. Historical note! Thanksgiving was declared as a national holiday in 1941, Alamo was founded in in 1974, and people have been traveling for holiday for literally thousands of years. Apparently the regional manager was 'looped in' to the situation- I guess not that looped in, since when I called customer service they said that regional manager would call me ASAP. Never happened. We were told to just cancel the reservation and go rent from someone else, which we did (Hertz saved us), at a much higher cost because we had to just take what they had on the lot. Incidentally, we were also told by the Alamo/Enterprise customer rep on the phone that we should be getting an email confirming the cancellation pretty quickly. That hasn't happened either. No activity on our credit card to show that the charges had been reversed. If these guys can't even be trusted to keep track of their car seats, what the hell can they be trusted with? Go with anybody else at this airport, this outfit is clownshoes. Update, 11/28: you will notice the review is still at one star! That response below is completely performative (as you might have guessed from the near-midnight post, it was likely automated for one-star reviews); I reached back out to the customer service reps through the provided link and they had no idea what I was talking about. They did confirm that the reservation had been canceled and refunded and that we were just waiting on processing - we'll see about *that* given the other review here where there was apparently quite the delay. We rented through Costco.com and arrived in Houston last Sunday. In Houston, you ride a shuttle bus off-site to stand in another line, and then you get to pick your car. We chose a brand new Toyota Camry. The gas tank was on 3/4 full, and we told them that. Leo said we could return empty if we wanted. Upon leaving, this was documented on paperwork. The car was nice and a ferry worker liked the color. It was a white type metallic color. The toll charges automatically get billed to Alamo and put on our credit card later on. We returned with 1/2 tank of gas. We then took a shuttle bus to terminal B to take tram to our hotel. Review 50 in 2023. read more

There was a bit of a snafu at the beginning but Verbin at the Oakland airport location went way above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. I planned a trip to Houston and was looking to rent a car at IAH. The reviews at several of the least expensive companies had horror stories about time spent waiting, the car itself, etc. I have rented with Alamo before and decided that it would be worth paying just a little bit more for a place I could trust. In retrospect, this was an excellent decision. There were only a couple people in line when I got to the Alamo desk at the rental area. The young gentleman who checked me in was friendly and very fast. I quickly got to my car -- a brand new lovely Toyota Camry. At the exit, Rosie Hernandez was friendly and gave me some excellent advice about the traffic, airport business, etc. I had absolutely no issues with the brand new car. When it was time to return it, the process at IAH was very simple. Directions to the rental center were clear, and the gentleman who checked my car back in did confirm that the car I was driving was brand new. The only thing left is for me to receive my bill for using the EZ Tag, which allowed me to easily use the area toll roads, and will be paid via my credit card on file. I am a frugal person by nature. However, the value in renting from Alamo greatly exceeds the extra cost over many other rental car agencies. No long waits in line and a smooth process are definitely for me. Thanks! read more

The lady at the late night desk was SO FUNNY, SO WONDERFUL! She checked me in with ease, cracked a few jokes, and thank GOD I didn't have to pay that deposit fee! Then when I got my car, I was BLOWN AWAY with the beautiful Jeep they had ready for me! Dear Lord, I didn't expect it to be so NEW and so BAD ASS! It was so new, I didn't even know how to let the windows down or do that other high tech stuff, but I figured it out! I was the last rental of the day and my car was so clean and beautiful and smelled so good. I enjoyed my whole week with that Jeep and it was TOUGH to have to finally say goodbye to it. And bringing it back was a breeze. I pulled all the way up to the guy, they scanned my car, checked it for dents and sent me on my way to return back to LA. I will always use this company. This was the best and easiest car rental I've ever had. I reserved a car in advance online and Alamo sent an email with precise details on what to do after my flight landed. We got into a crazy massive line for the shuttles to the offsite car rentals and we thought it would take hours to get our car, but once we got out of the shuttle, we were driving away in our rental car within five minutes!! I reserved a car for this location on 8/15. A few hours later, I came to pick up my car at the designated time. I waited in line just to be told when I arrived at the front that they are not honoring same-day reservations because they were overbooked. I'd never heard of that before. Then I noticed there was a woman with luggage softly crying in the corner and another dazed-looking couple who didn't appear to know where to go. Since I had booked the car for 2 months and I was in town for one more day I asked, "Can you book me a car right now to pick up tomorrow?" She said I could come back tomorrow and see if they have anything available. I pointed out that I wasn't going to drive 30 minutes to check if they have anything available and asked if there was a manager that could check right now. She sent me outside and the guy outside gave me an email to try to reserve something. I emailed them but I never heard back and booked my 2-month rental with another company instead. I would give out a negative number if I could. I rented a Nissan from Alamo car rental in Houston Texas on 8/5/2022. I returned the car on 8/7/2022 prior to departing the Houston IAH airport on a 6:55 am flight! when I returned the car I requested a receipt. The Alamo employee stated she could not print and that I would receive my receipt via email. The receipt never came instead I got an email stating the car ad NOT been returned and asking if I needed an extension on the car that I had already turned in! Also Alamo attemptEd to charge my card for additional rental days even though I had turned my car in and paid for my rental in full on 8/7/22. I called Alamo, I responded to the e-mail and was placed on hold for long periods of time, told I would receive call backs etc... finally I spoke with a lady claiming to be the branch manager. She says my issue was resolved and as soon as she could get to a computer she would send an email stating that because I asked for it in writing. after 30 minutes passed and I noticed the branch manager did NOT send the email I called back. any then she had changed her story and would only communicate via text. She said she was busy but responded via text and would not answer my calls. finally called and when I asked her to repeat her name so that I could make record of who I spoke with she hung up in my face and never called back, never answered my calls and never responded to any additional text. because of this I called Alamo back and got the run around AGAIN. I finally spoke with someone in corporate customer service. she confirmed that i did return the rental car but Alamo can't find the car. she says they can't close my ticket until they find the car. she agreed that is not my problem and that I did what I'm supposed to but said that she can't send me an email stating this because she can only send internal emails. This nightmare has been unresolved all day and as of 9:50 pm on Monday 8/8/2022 my issue is still unresolved. I returned the car prior to the designated time. I paid the rental fee. I have rented from Alamo for years but I will never rent from Alamo car rental again. bad customer service! Horrible follow up skills. trying to charge me continuosly for a car that I returned and most important stating that I did not turn a car in when I did. I rented a car on 9/1/22 at the GBHouston airport. I had the best experience. If it wasn't for Jessica Roberts when I picked the car up I would have been so lost. Jessica hooked up up my phone to the car and I had working GPS. I'm not a technical person at all, and had no idea how to do that. Jessica is amazing and a huge plus to Alamo. She truly went out of her way to help me out and I'm so grateful to her. When returning the car, I dealt with Destiny. She's such a sweet human being and took care of my return. Arrived after midnight and picked up the shuttle to get to IAH's rental car site. The Alamo counter was closed. Instead, everyone was being taken cared of at the Enterprise counter right next to Alamo (I think it was Enterprise). They only had one person on duty, so there was quite a lengthy line. However, once i got up to the counter, everything was taken cared of smoothly and quickly. Guy was nice and professional, got us out to the cars quickly. So, I wasn't too peeved about the wait because it was late at night and we were taken cared of quickly. We need to understand from their perspective, too! We went out the doors and took the escalators up to Alamo's rental cars, checked in with a nice lady who directed us to the row to pick up our car. With Alamo, for those who are not familiar, you get to choose your car from the available cars in the same row/class you booked. My dad was excited to learn about this and wanted to jump into a nice brand new Jeep, but I said no because it doesn't have Blind Spot monitoring standard :) So, we went for the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe, which came with Blind Spot Monitoring, Adaptive Cruise Control, Apple CarPlay, and Lane Departure Warning. Good to have in Texas where no one seems to use their blinkers and there can be 10 lanes at once on the highway! Started our car, got all settled, and then made our way out! Very easy, efficient, and incredibly efficient. Even returning the rental car, I just drove right in, a gentleman came up and picked up my keys, and I was on my way on the shuttle back to IAH. Shuttle driver was very nice, too! Don't forget to tip them :) Definitely deserves it for their service. read more

Very poor planning and poorly run operation. When you book a car ahead of time to pick up after your flight arrives on time, they run a shift sharing the front desk with National with 1 person handling all the customers. This is their late night service I guess but it's like they don't pay attention to the # of reservations and just staff with 1 person. Expect a 20-30 min wait for getting your car. I had to wait about an hour to get picked up but I will say the manger said "what do I need to do to make this right." And she did exactly what I asked. Amazing experience everytime I rent! Which is one a month for the last 3 years. Out of all the rental companies and (I ve tried them all) Alamo and it's employees are always 1st class. Cars are clean which I have not experienced everywhere to my my disappointment. From the manager to the front desk staff they are great! Returns are simple as fast and always accurate. The odd time I have rented somewhere just based on price I regretted it saving a few dollars is definitely not worth the problems I have had to endure at other companies!! Rented a car with alamo because I rented a car with alamo when I went home to Maui and they were great. However, this time was a bit different. I opted in to getting the insurance. On the website it stated $9 a day but for some reason when I paid for my rental it did not add it. So I asked the lady at the counter if I can add the insurance and she stated yes of course. I was shocked that the price was not $9 a day it was $39 a day. Then she proceeded to ask me if i knew there was a $300 deposit to rent the car. I told her no because usually if you rent a car it tells you that you need to put a deposit down for damages or what not. Which i would not mind as long as i know a head of time. Upon returning the vehicle I asked the guy about a refund for the days not used because I left a day earlier than expected. They guy was really nice and refunded me a day. Days later I get a call from Joey and he wanted to know what would make my experience with Alamo better. I had a meeting to go to and called him back the next day and let him know that to be fair all I wanted was to pay $9 for the insurance and they can refund me the rest. He said that this is something that he could do and said that the refund would be posted in my account the following Wednesday. That never happened. I waited until Friday and reached out to him and asked if they were still going to refund the monies. He texted me back stating that he was sorry that it had not posted and he would look into it. It has been 3 weeks since and I have not heard anything and have not seen anything posted to my account. read more

Highly disappointed with Alamo and their "customer service." I dropped off my car on time at the location (IAH - George Bush Airport). First, there was no one around and I had to track someone down to check the car back in at the lane. Second, I get two calls 2 days and 3 days later saying that my rental has not been returned and that I need to call "customer service." I call and the first person I speak with tells me everything has been taken care of. The next day I get another call saying my rental is still not returned. I call their "customer service" and they tell me I have to call the Houston office directly myself and sort it out. Seriously?!?! Then "customer service" compounds a lack of care with consistently giving me wrong numbers that lead back to their main line. I'm still in limbo as to what is going on as the last rep told me she sent an email to the IAH office to close out my rental and send me a confirmation email with absolutely no timetable. Do not rent from them. They will misreport your return and claim to not have the capability to give you a receipt at the moment. Then over charge you by hundreds of dollars for returning the vehicle allegedly somewhere else. I returned the vehicle to this location as stated in my rental agreement at 7:45. They claim I returned the vehicle to Austin at 3 :30. Thats not even possible! They are slow about investigating their mistakes, and offer little to no resolution. It's been weeks and I'm still waiting!Will not rent from again. Update: After a month, I finally received a refund. Pretty much the day after my original review. Guess someone saw it and got on it. I've always rented Alamo in the past but I WILL NEVER rent again. Customer service is not their thing. From the 1-800 line to this location the ball was dropped throughout the entire rental process with the company. 1. The location- Although rental row is easy to find unlike other airport locations, the Alamo terminal was like trying to find a single popcorn kernel on a beach. I drove around 20 minutes trying to locate the Alamo terminal leaving rental row and circling back around. It was pitch black dark where the alamo rental terminal lane was located. I finally found it and the gentleman that was checking in cars was very nice and apologetic for the conditions that night. Dropped the rental off and walked back across the dark parking lot to leave. After leaving getting out of the airport area and onto the express way (less than 20 mins away I realize I left my house keys in the car) immediately had my driver to turn around. I attempted to call while on the way back but the direct number that was provided by the 1-800 number line went unanswered, I'm in a panic; the 1-800 rep tells me to go online and complete a lost and found form. I arrive back at the alamo terminal and run across the parking lot to track someone down to help me. I was directed to a manager Andrew which was less than accommodating and not sympathetic that i was just there and left my home keys in the car. I tell him I was just there and he's like that was an hr or so ago, the guy who checked the car in sees me and says "hey, is everything ok?" and tells Andrew I was just there and the car i had was downstairs. Andrew (parking lot mgr- i think ) tells me "How would he know, he doesn't know, he only checks cars in). WOW, I'm sure Andrew is great for the team morale. Long story short, Andrew brushes me off, I'm so pissed off all I can do was beg and plead to let me check b/c i KNEW i had my keys in the cup holder. I explained that my keys didn't look like regular house metal keys, and suggested that they look a bit closer. I never got rude, loud or anything. Andrew called the lost and found and says "nothing there" he walks off and says that they've had to double up that night and drove off. Another guy begins "helping" me saying that the car was just rented out and he caught the new renter going out the gate and she was pretty upset that he asked her to check for a lost item. I said sir, it's not like you stopped here for sunglasses, you stopped her to look for my $200 set of keys to my home". So he says "Well we looked and looked and they aren't here" i stood there in shock of how they were treating this like "oh well" and left and called my mom who called the 1-800 number..... NO LIE.....abt 15-20 minutes of leaving there again the rude incompetent managers that insisted my keys were not there advised my mom that they in fact had them! WHAT in the entire sam hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I'm really boiling b/c of the way that kept brushing me off and the amount of time I spent dealing with Alamo!!!!!!!! I initially dropped the rental off by 9:30, I didn't finish dealing with Alamo until 12:00am! Grrrrrrr Will I rent from them? NEVER again! 2. my mom flew in to town- she's not from Houston... Rented her car at the hobby airport (which is where she flew into), a mistake was made with the return location for the rental was listed as Bush- IAH. Oh my goodness- fly out of South Houston and drop car off in North Houston! Alamo agents were not willing to waive the drop off fee for a different location. Her airline ticket clearly showed the airport she flew into and out of, why didn't the agent at pickup verify and make sure that as a travelling customer she knew it was two different locations on one reservation with the same round trip flight from a different location which was hobby. Alamo really had a lot to do with the inconveniencing of my day. did they apologize???.... mmmmmm if you call saying "sorry" an apology and heartfelt, then sure. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH ALAMO!! Alamo's Branch Manager Dereck was absolutely no help either. Picture the scene: We made a reservation online with Alamo for the return portion of a trip due to the funeral of a family member. We had a CONFIRMATION number. We were very tired after a very long flight where we brought along 2 kids under 4 years old (and lugging along 6 checked bags). When we arrived at Alamo's counter in Houston TX to get our vehicle they wouldn't rent to us because all we had on us was a debit card. We rented with Hertz with a debit card. We rented with Budget (one way even!) with a debit card. Why were we having an issue with Alamo? Sorry sir. Go somewhere else. We dont care how difficult it is for you or that we didnt make it clear to you. This wouldnt have been a problem had they done a better job of communicating to us that if we showed up with a debit card they wouldn't rent to us. We didnt expect any problems because we rented a vehicle one-way from Austin to Houston a week earlier with Budget. Maybe somewhere in the fine print it probably mentions not getting a one-way vehicle with a debit card, but there is a difference between stating something and making something clear. It wasn't clear to us. Thanks to Budget at Houston Intercontinental though!! They made the rest of our journey a delight. We rented from Budget for the same price we were going to pay Alamo and they actually upgraded us to a van from a mid-size SUV. Awesome service. read more

I booked economy and they ran out of cars for the weekend so got upgraded to midsize SUV...woohoo. It was father's day weekend, but I didn't run into any problems. I would rent from them again. quick in and out, no line. returned the car with an unexpected charge/rate change, by a few bucks but the agent fixed it. read more
