I rented a mini van for a trip to Buffalo, New York from West haven, CT for 3 days at Sixt rent a car. I picked it up a few hours early on Monday morning. I brought it back at noon on Thursday. The man behind the counter was a little rude due to the timing (I didn't know you have to return in at the exact time you rent it) but the woman quickly took over and took care of all of my concerns. The place is quite cheaper than any other place and if you want unlimited miles than this is the place for you. I found this experience quite easy and would definitely rent again. Cheap Rental, But Absolutely NOT Worth the Headache -- Stay Away from Sixt I strongly regret renting from Sixt. I had seen the negative reviews before booking, but I decided to give them a chance because in 30+ years, I had never had a bad experience with any rental car company before in the US. I should have listened to the reviews. Our nightmare started the second day after we picked up the car. The car suddenly wouldn't start, leaving us stranded in a remote location. We had to wait THREE HOURS for Sixt to send AAA. Three hours of our vacation were completely wasted because Sixt gave us a car that couldn't even reliably start. But the worst part came afterward. Because the car was in such poor condition, we decided to return it two days early. Before returning the car, we contacted both Sixt and Expedia and specifically asked whether we would receive a refund for the two unused days. We were told yes. After we returned the car, the story completely changed. Sixt told us to contact Expedia. Expedia contacted Sixt while I was on the phone and the representative even sent Sixt the email request they asked for. Then the next day Sixt told Expedia that I needed to contact Sixt to process the refund. When I contacted Sixt, they claimed they had never received Expedia's email and told me that I had paid Expedia, not Sixt so I had to go back talking to Expedia. Back and forth. Again and again. Finally, Expedia arranged a three-way call with Sixt. Only then did a Sixt representative--who refused to give me his name--finally tell me that Sixt would NOT refund the two unused days because the rental had been prepaid. Excuse me? If prepaid rentals are non-refundable, why didn't Sixt tell us that when we called BEFORE returning the car and specifically asked about the refund? Instead, we were told that we would get a refund, only to be told afterward that there would be no refund. Whether this was incompetence, poor communication, or simply an attempt to avoid paying the refund, the result was the same: we lost money and wasted hours dealing with Sixt and Expedia. A rental car company should provide a safe, reliable vehicle and stand behind what its employees tell customers. Sixt failed us on both counts. My advice: Don't be tempted by Sixt's low prices. The money you save isn't worth the risk, inconvenience, and frustration. I had a great experience at the actual SixT Times Square location. Very helpful guy at the counter. Great, fun car that was an upgrade. Second car (we rent for the summer - city dwellers during the year without a car), was fine. Unfortunately, that's where the good ends: BOTH cars have expired registrations. Seriously? We rented the cars for a month, drove them two hours from where we picked them up car, only to find out it's not even legal to drive them. Having a current registration feels like a pretty baseline must-have. And SixT is ZERO for TWO. read more

I gave them advanced notice that I could not travel because of pre existing health conditions. I had a car reserved for a week. So when I booked the car, I realized I had the wrong return airport and contacted them immediately and they said I would be charged a $125 cancellation fee! Are you kidding me?!!!! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. DO NOT USE SIXT!! I rented a car to pick up in Tampa on June 9, with $408.13 pre-paid. Storms delayed my plane's arrival by 2 hours. Sixt was closed, with NO ability to contact by phone and no message left. Not only did they refuse to refund or cover Uber costs, but they refused to deliver my car to my hotel the next day although I had a business conference and couldn't return to airport. Worst company to use during a pandemic. Every other company gave refunds during this pandemic except for this one. I explained to them that I needed to cancel an upcoming rental due to Covid. I told them we would be flying back to NY and would be under a mandatory quarantine for 14 days. They still said no total refund. They would have to charge me for 3 days. Absolutely ridiculous!!! I rented a car for a week while my car was in the auto body shop. The service was great-very friendly and accommodating staff. Shannon was super. The office and car was clean. They offered to drive me home and pick up my car at the repair shop. Great price. I would definitely use them again and am very comfortable referring them. The reason I didn't rate them five stars was because there was a smell from an air freshener, which I'm not a fan of. It was warm, so I was able to keep the windows open to reduce the smell. read more

So your get stuck with the Company, because you rented online and your credit card was charged and although you have a invoice with the picture of the vehicle, the service desk will say that is not what you rented and give you a more expensive vehicle. It saddens me to say that I will no longer be doing business with SixT Rental Services. I am apart of its membership program have not been more dissatisfied with the West Haven location. I booked a reservation for November 25th to November 27th to spend the holidays with my family. When I arrived to pick up my rental, I was told that I could not use my Credit Card for authorization because it was a secured CC without a chip. I had informed the lady at the front desk that I used the same type of CC for a past reservation in July of 2020 (documentation will be provided). She strongly urged that being impossible. She then proceeded to cancel my reservation because it was a secured CC with no chip. I was able to contact the corporate office for further clarification on the payment methods that was allowed and not allowed. The rep stated to me that the company does take secured CCs. If the card does not have a chip, then further verification would be needed. I felt very hurt at the fact that I was treated in such a manner. I even called my CC company and gave them permission to talk to the lady at front desk to confirm it being Secured Credit Card. The lady briefly spoke with my CC company which, they confirmed it was a secured CC and the company does not issue cards with a chip program. She was given "further verification" but still refuse to take my payment method. This made me feel that I was being discriminated against. I was not able to see my family for thanksgiving based off this manner. As stated, I will be providing documentation (CC statement) to Sixt Corporate offices proving that I used the same company (that doesn't issue chip based cards) back in July of 2020. Take heed to my advice, please book somewhere else because clearly not all locations are in line with its company policies. read more

DO NOT rent from them the reps are liars!! Rented a car from them to go to North Carolina. They were aware we were going to this state we asked how can we save some money on tows they offered an ez pass we paid 14.95 a day for this pass. I asked for the sticker device that goes in the window they assured us you good go right through without it. My mom didn't trust it so she paid all the big tows. Long story short we returned the rental got back half the deposit beacuse of bridge tows or something charged us 40 dollars extra (rental fees). Then weeks later went back into my account and took 80 dollars more for tows and when asked why they didnt make sense. Bottom line we paid extra for ez pass that didnt exist!! read more

I rented a 12 person van for four days. 9 of us drove from CT to MD for a music festival. Day 2 of the festival around 4:00pm my bag was stolen which had the rental key in it. I called Sixt customer service and the woman advised she needs to call a tow truck, have the van removed from the parking lot and they will send a new one and will call us back. Over an hour later no one from Sixt has called so I call them again. This representative has no idea what is going on so I explain the key was stolen and she says she needs to call a tow truck and get us a new van and hangs up. About an hour later, still no update from Sixt. I call a 3rd time and the guy has no idea what is going. I have been waiting sitting with security for several hours now because there is no service inside. About 8:00pm I get a call from a supervisor from Sixt saying I don't know why you would need a tow truck. Call a lock smith and have a key made. I wasted half of my day sitting around waiting for Sixt to help me in a stressful situation and wasted money on a my concert ticket because they couldn't say that four hours earlier. The following day Richard from the Sixt West Haven office calls to follow up. He says the reps yesterday did their job correctly. They aren't allowed to give an estimated time for a call back, they aren't allowed to call back and if a new van is not available then CS needs to ask a supervisor if a new key can be made. It also takes hours for information to show up on my account which is why the two reps had no idea what was going on. If I had known what CS was going to do, I could have enjoyed the concert and not spent my day with security trying to get help from Sixt. I wasted hours of my day at the festival and hours of my day the following Tuesday waiting for Richard to call me back. But according to them I received excellent customer service. After this was posted I got a message to email the company about my experience. They never responded after waiting 5 to 7 business days. read more

I reserved a mid-size SUV on AirpotRentalCars.com with this company "Sixt rent a car" on 7/8/2014 for $180/week, I have received my reservation confirmation and also noticed a charge of $154 on my credit card soon after. The company called me on 7/9/2014 morning, told me there was a mistake on the quote online, and asked me to cancel my reservation, I told them that is not a mistake I made, I have the confirmation and they should honor the price I signed up for, instead of doing so, they told me that "in that case we cannot guarantee you'll have a vehicle on the pick-up day", I told him I have paid for this, and they better make sure the car is there when I go pick it up, he said I haven't pay yet (Don't understand what that $154 charge is for on my credit card then). And I told him I have the reservation confirmation, he replied "it's just a reservation, it doesn't mean anything". I argued with the agent on the phone for about 5 minutes about the situation, I told him this is not the way to run a business, they can't have people making reservations, charge on their credit card, and then tell them they can't guarantee to deliver the good/service the customers have ordered! He insists that there's nothing they can do, then hung up the phone. According to another agent at their West Haven branch, they are out of stock with that type of vehicle I ordered, in that case, they should provide me with an alternative, I told them I cannot go with smaller cars because the whole point of me renting the car is to be able to transport 5 people including luggage while we're traveling for our vacation. Since they made the mistake, (not sure anymore what the problem is, one person said it's because I'm not paying enough, the other one said it's because they are out of stock?) whatever the problem they think it is, they should come up with alternative solutions instead of just telling me there's nothing they can do! read more

Wow! Old school customer service. Shannon and her team are great. I recently reserved a minivan; called the day before pickup and offered a no cost upgrade to a cargo van. This worked great for me as I needed the extra space. Return couldn't have been easier as well. The whole team at Sixt was friendly and focused on the customer. We used this rental car location because our auto body shop recommended it. Shannon was great and very professional. She understood our frustration with the insurance company and never judged. My husband was picked up and taken to the rental location after an accident. He was in a car in at least an hour and we had it for about 24 days. They get a nice 1 star, only because i can't put 0 or go into the negative. I had a family member that rented a car and received a five dollar toll ticket for the Tappan Zee Bridge. This bridge doesn't have toll booth people so they have to mail the ticket. Because personal addresses aren't linked to the rental car driver, the rental car center receives the bill. Well, the problem is that Sixt tacks on a $50 administration fee on top of your five dollar toll fee. This doesn't make any sense whatsoever. How can you tack on a fee without giving the customer a chance to pay the original price? Sixt doesn't call, mail, email or notify you by phone about the toll ticket, while a place like Enterprise rental does. This is how they make their money. They scam you. When the family member confronted Sixt about this unfair practice, the lady said they don't have enough man power to mail out notices to everyone that gets a ticket, so they have no choice but to charge an administrative fee. Again, it doesn't make sense. Every customer should be given the chance to pay the original fine price, especially when there isn't a way to avoid it due to the lack of toll booth workers. (TPZ bridge was rid of toll maids 4 months ago and works strictly by mail notifications or ez-pass). Eventually they knocked 40 bucks off as if they were in the right in the first place. Please. I'm writing this only because the family member got over the situation and moved on. I needed to write this to make everyone aware of their horrible business practices. This company is a fraud!!!Runnnn and don't look back!!! We reserved a mini van 2-months in advanced through Hotwire for the holiday season late December 2015 (West Haven CT company). The price was awesome. $490ish for eight days, with unlimited miles, seemed like a bargain. 30-days before our reservation date, I called to confirmed everything. Everything seemed ready for our family vacation. The day before my pick up date as I left work, I decided to call just because and that's when our nightmare began. The sales rep took a long time to find my reservation number and when the reservation was found, he asked for help from his supervisor to inform me that my reservation was canceled because they sent us an email to get my phone number because hotwire didn't provide that info to them. I told the supervisor that I had called 30-days prior and went over all my info with the rep, so how is that possible? Long story short, they apologized, apologized, after basically insulting me and left my family high and dry. I ended up renting a van the following day for $1200. I believe the supervisors name was Ashley call me the next day to tell me she "may" have another van but wanted to compare prices with the van I located. They clearly rented out the van we reserved to a higher bidder, period. It was the worst experience I have ever had with any company. Don't be fooled by the cheap price during your search. You will just be a back up for them because chances are they will release your reserved car to a customer paying significantly more. This is obvious as I read some of the other reviews. I'm shocked this company is still in business... I normally don't ever leave reviews good or bad but I was just looking for another rental to book and this company came up as the cheapest bargain..
