Again with the gift certificate-- I believe my incredibly frustrating experience all stems from this. I have been getting rude and unprofessional treatment because I wanted to use a gift certificate. 1. I paid the balance of the certificate at purchase in 2017. That money does not become worth any less because I redeem it in 2021. This is regulated, not only by federal laws, but also by the state of Illinois in the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act from 2008, which states "(b) On or after January 1, 2008, no person shall sell a gift certificate that is subject to: (1) an expiration date earlier than 5 years after the date of issuance; or (2) a post-purchase fee." --- A gift certificate purchased in 2017 legally cannot expire earlier than 5 years, which would be 2022. The gift certificate does NOT say it even expires, so this argument is a waste of time. If your store policy changed, you cannot enforce that on the consumer AFTER the fact-- it's absolute nonsense. (c) The face value of a gift certificate issued on or after January 1, 2008 may not be reduced in value and the holder of a gift certificate issued after January 1, 2008 may not be penalized in any way for non-use or untimely redemption of the gift certificate." (Source: P.A. 97-954, eff. 1-1-13.) --- You did NOT happily accept my appointment and I have clear evidence. You first tried to only allow me to get a regular manicure, which is less than the $40 I had remaining. This was an attempt to reduce the value of the certificate, which the passage above explicitly states is not allowed. 2. I notified you in advance that I was getting the manicure because I will be going out of town for a trip for the weekend. To expect a customer to return in the middle of a weekday to get the nails redone without offering flexibility is unprofessional. I work 12-13 hour shifts in healthcare; I cannot simply drive to the nail salon at 1:15 pm on a Thursday afternoon because the job was poorly done the first time. You even replied, "Think so it's not dry enough" when I asked why they are peeling prematurely. I sent in 2 photos of my nails peeling so you are-- again-- incorrect when you say I did not send photos. Regardless, I should not be expected to send you ten photos to prove that my nails are peeling off less than 2 days after the "no-chip" manicure. Even if the nails started peeling/chipping 1 week after, several other salons have a "two-week guarantee" for no-chip manicures where clients are offered to come back to the salon to get the nails redone at no charge. It's unfortunate but obviously understandable why this policy does not exist at your salon. 3. To provide poor quality of service, read the customer's review, and make false claims in the response is not taking "customer satisfaction very serious(ly)." read more

At first,there was no availability to see me the same day but after I explained the amount of pain etc. I was told to come in and they will help if they can. CHECK IN Upon visit the temperature check, hand sanitizer,they keep mask on the face at all times.The place was sparkling clean and at this unfortunate times well aired.The standard Covid health questionnaire to fill out and sign.So far so good. MASSAGE ROOM Not a novice,definitely not an expert but in my lifetime I have received a fair share of massages.The large room was nice and clean ,the bed,bed sheets clean and organized.Again room was properly vented which is important especially having virus around us.Relaxing music throughout. I am getting relaxed feeling in a safe environment! Got left in a room to undress to my comfort level. MASSAGE : One word Phenomenal! Communication is the Key.The only reason I had visit and discover this wonderful place is that I got injured by someone overdoing it. Experience was quite subpar for the price! I went here for my birthday and was under the impression that I'd be receiving the birthday package (one massage and one facial) for $170. But like most spas, if it seems too good to be true it is. I've had massages before and this one was ok. I liked how they asked if you had medical conditions before they start. I told the lady briefly about it and how she couldn't massage certain areas. She seemed understanding, however halfway into the massage she asked: "does your medical condition have anything to do with your weight?". Under any other circumstances I would have brushed this off but I felt that it was incredibly rude of her to ask! To insuiate that my medical condition has to do with my weight is incredibly rude and insensitive. Honestly, made the whole experience unbearable. Next was the facial. I was told before I made the appointment that I'll be seeing their best facialist. I was excited but that quickly turned into disappointment. She quickly pointed out all of the "bad" things about my skin and went on a rant about retinoid creams in generally. Essentially said that my use of them ruined my skin and made it sensitive. Then maybe she remembered she was working and tried to salvage it by saying I had good skin. During the facial I was expecting her to explain what she was doing, or to suggest things. Nope. There was a point where she used a machine that feels like there's tiny zaps on the skin. No explanation or warning. The facial was OK, but I felt like the experience of learning about my skin and learning about the products she was using was lost. At the end, I was charged a ton of money. Much more than anticipated. I was not given a receipt detailing these charges. I feel like I was scammed, as they advertise one thing and then offer something completely different. What to say about this place except for A M A Z I N G?!?!? I work on the south side and I took two trains to Evanston just to get the personalized and amazing from Sixth Sense Spa! It's extremely close to the purple line or the metra. Its appointment only so make sure to call in advance. Street parking is also available (no charge). The place is very clean and organized, there isn't dust anywhere and everything looks throughly wiped down. I went in for a no chip manicure. The lady who was working on my nails took her time, cut my nails, had them soak in water, filed and then applied the no chip. It was a quick and timeless process- didn't take longer than 30 mins all together. The lady who worked on my nails was gentle and very thorough, I really appreciated that since I'm a stickler for perfection. I personally love that the salon wasn't overly busy or noisy because I really dislike going to nail salons where the music is so loud you could barely hear yourself think. Been seeing Mika for over 3 years now even before she opened this (her own) salon. This one woman business machine, does a mani/padi like no other!... I live downtown (Old Town area) where there are hundreds of nail salons of every price range, but everyone seems to do half-assed compared to the job Mika does. It is always worth my drive to Evanston (You can get there via the El too). She's very meticulous and her mani will last you upwards of two weeks (I'm a nurse and wash my hands lots during a day of work!). Her prices aren't cheap... but they're not crazy expensive... $17 for mani, $33 for pedicure. Best $50 you'll ever spend... I'm a regular for her waxing service too, and well what can I say, no pain no gain... but ladies... you know this has got to be done... ask Mika for the J-lo special! read more

I went to Sixth Sense with reasonable expectations due to the many positive reviews on Yelp. I would not recommend a massage by the young woman who worked on me today. I have had hundreds of massage therapy experiences and I know when someone is inexperienced. This was one of those cases. It feels frustrating to lay on a table knowing you are paying for a certain level of study and know how, and feeling like you are simply providing the spa employee some practice. It kept me in my head, and took me out of that 'bliss" I hoped to achieve during a very stressful period. The young European woman was courteous and diligent and responded pretty well to my prompts for more pressure or to concentrate on certain areas, but her inexperience was obvious and its effect on my session was a disappointment. The spa is quite barren and is not very warm, both in energy and temperature. I told the MT I "usually run cold during body work" yet she never offered a heat pad/blanket. She also did not have experience or know what cranio-sacral massage was as she sort of had a blank stare when I requested some. She said she would work on my neck. Her technique was really tentative and harried throughout. She also never checked in with me to gauge how I was doing nor said a word other than "Please turn over." Her positioning my limbs and work with keeping the sheets covering my body also seemed inexperienced. Takeaway: make sure you have experienced (trained? Certified?) MT before going in. read more

Sixth Sense meets all of my waxing needs. The quality and service are really top notch. Mika is super warm and friendly and makes you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in. There isn't much you can do to make waxing less painful except to do it more quickly, and that's exactly what Mika does. She is thorough, but works very fast. A short anecdote: One of my biggest fears is having eyebrows that are pencil thin or too far apart or oddly curvy. So I never let anyone tweeze my eyebrows (including myself) and they have remained untouched for 2 years. 20 minutes into my appointment, Mika was able to gain enough trust to wax my eyebrows. And I love the result. They still look like my full eyebrows, just cleaner. She is also easy to schedule appointments with via text, so you can avoid playing phone tag. She's flexible so it's usually possible to make appointments within a few days. The actual salon is small and you enter through the revolving door of an office building. It doesn't have the ambiance of an expensive high end salon, but honestly I think the quality of the waxing is better. read more

I'm wondering if I'm reading the wrong reviews because MIKA was not gentle and actually waxed my neck and burned my skin when I hadn't even asked to have my neck waxed-what?! My eyebrows do look great, but her tinting didn't work. I couldn't tell that the tinting didn't "take" until I was outside and saw the same white eyebrow hairs staring right back at me. I won't be returning. update: I called back and she apparently she didn't charge me for the tinting....she said the reason the tinting didn't work was because of my own hair, what? The facial. Get it. I came in for a facial when I was unable to schedule a cortisone injection with my dermotologist on short notice (I have cystic acne and had developed a large painful cyst in my forehead before a big trip). Honestly, I was grasping at straws - cystic acne is typically not at all treatable cosmetically, you just need to take a needle full of steroids to the stupid things. So, I came in for the facial hoping for something that would just calm my skin a bit. After talking to the facialist, she recommended a chemical peel, which I had never done before. Holy moly, the thing worked wonders. Not only did it resurface the rest of my skin and leave me all glowy and whatnot, it did such a good job exfoliating the top layers of my skin that I was able to easily extract the cyst at home a few days later, and it was basically gone in time for my trip. I will be making this chemical peel thing part of my regular routine. A quick note on the actual place: it is tiny and non-descript in the corner of an office building lobby. You don't come here for the ambiance, you come here because they know what they're doing! Total gem. read more

The only time I've had one more therapeutic was when I used to see a semi-retired physical therapist who would seriously pound at my shoulder knots. Tracy gives an amazing massage. My husband bought me a Gift Certificate for Christmas to use after I had our baby. It was a full scale deal-Massage, Mani/Pedi and facial. I am usually the type who likes to meld in-especially when in new place. This spa made me nervous at first b/c it was so small (no way to meld in!) but after a few minutes, I felt right at home. Mika greeted me warmly, and even though I was a half an hour early, she made sure I got in for my massage as soon as it was available. (The therapist was wonderful and sweet and I felt totally refreshed afterwards) Then Mika did my facial herself. I haven't had many facials in my life-it was unique but my skin felt amazing afterwards. (My husband even remarked afterwards how great I looked after) And then Stan did my mani/pedi. I was the only customer that afternoon (it was a random weekday on my maternity leave) and they sat and chatted with me through it but let me read when I wanted to as well. The time has come to write this review. I waited for over a year because my best friends got me a gift certificate here with the best intentions, and so I felt bad reviewing this place poorly. I am honestly surprised by the positive reviews. I got waxing and a facial. The quality of both was good, however everything else about the experience was poor, and quite offensive. For the prices charged by this salon, it is very bare bones, looks like a cheap nail salon. I would never call this a "spa." Halfway through the waxing, by who I think is the owner, we were chatting and I mentioned that my friends had bought me a gift certificate for my birthday. She stopped talking and then blurted out "well you know you have to pay the remainder of the price." What... yes, I know how money and gift certificates work and anyways, it covered the whole waxing. She went on about how I was so lucky to have GC, because waxes aren't cheap. OK. Next the facial. To be fair, the facial was good, but the technician was talking to me the ENTIRE time. And not just small talk. She started asking me when I was going to have kids, when I may get a new job - things that do NOT make for a relaxing experience. But overall she was knowledgable and everything went smoothly. To top it all off, the second I walked out of the facial, the woman who had done the waxing was there waiting for me, scratch that, waiting for my money. I came here with a groupon for my choice of three facial services. For $25, I was able to choose three amongst a selection of waxes (lip, chin, and eyebrow) and tints (eyebrow and eyelash). Unfortunately for me, although I confirmed and booked my appointment for an eyebrow wax and an eyebrow and eyelash tint before I even purchased the groupon, I was told upon arrival that I could only have one tint, because otherwise she wasn't going to make any money. Boo. In the end, I decided on an eyebrow wax and an eyelash tint. Both came out great, but although I repeatedly said it was my first time getting an eyelash tint, I was never told what was going on, and could tell I got in the way during parts of the process. I was also told nothing about maintenance, and had to learn from my friend that I wasn't supposed to wash my eyes for 24 hours, and to stay away from oil based mascaras. I did contact groupon and received a refund because I only received two of the three services. It's a shame, because the regular price of $40 for the three services would've made me a regular. read more

I used a gift certificate that was 2 years old and they still let me get the massage and gave me 10% off for another massage for my next visit. T hey made kind of a fuss about using a credit card, but accepted it anyways (I really don't get that - I could give you the $1.27 in my wallet, or give you a 20% tip on top of what I owe you... you decide).
