Well I hate to say it but we pay almost $400 for a couple massage with a charcuterie board a Swedish massage for my girl friend and athletic massage for myself. Long store short. During the booking some lady with a name starting with a R ( the boss) got hung up me more than three times. I should have knew better after that not to book with them. But my girl friend wanted to go so I tried to book something for our get away. Some staff were nice. However, the massage all they did was put oil on my back. Didn't even rub it in. My girl friend hated her. She was ready to go after she hers. We get to the point of she charcuterie board I paid for and the lady I believe that is in charge ( glasses black hair.) she acted like I was trying to steal and have a attitude with me. Guess cause I'm black Said we already ate it when we didn't. Then didn't have anything to make the board. Wine was god awful she bought my girl Friend red wine (sweet) and she said she doesn't like it. The employee didn't offer her the white. It really not worth the money not headache. We came to town and were very excited to experience this place. And felt like we as scammed while leaving the building. Which was dirty by the way. Do your research before going. read more

I already booked my next session! My appointment was for 230pm on a Thursday. I had the place to myself and it was great! The person that greeted me was super nice. She gave me a tour and even had me pour water over a special energy stone while making a wish. There was a locker ready for me with a robe, a towel, and slippers. I got into the robe and headed to the Beach Lounge room. It was such a relaxing waiting area. I grabbed a complimentary La Croix, laid on the daybed, and read a magazine. I tried the cool single lounge cubicles but I couldn't lay my legs out so I decided to go elsewhere. A few minutes after my start time Juliana came out to get me. I booked the 80 min and so glad I did. When she started with my gluteus maximus I knew it was going to be a good massage. Although I thought she spent a long time on the back of my legs I did need it since I've been jogging. When she started on my back I was excited because she kneeded it with her whole forearm! There was no order in her massage so she'll do one thing and then do it again 5 minutes later. I turned over and saw I had 30 min left. The trapezius massage is always much needed and so is the scalp. I was sad to have the session end but I was looking forward to the rain shower. Juliana suggested going to the sauna and I did for maybe 3 minutes then I left. I hate heat. I went to the shower and it didn't disappoint. Overall a great experience. read more

I went here for my birthday massage this year and definitely had some strong pros and cons. I wanted to love it and was excited to go here for my birthday but there were just a lot of red flags that didn't sit right with me. I booked myself for an 80 minute massage and my boyfriend for a back facial both under separate names. They accidentally pulled my boyfriend in for my massage while I waited in the lounge. They then came up to me and told me that I was supposed to be getting my massage. Obviously no one pulled me in. Once they figured out they accidentally pulled my boyfriend into my appointment room, they acted like it was his fault. When I got into my room, the masseuse seemed to be kind of short in her responses with me - maybe she was annoyed she had to start massaging someone else? I'm not sure. But then the massage experience was terrible. There was no rhyme or reason to the massage she gave me, no spa music was playing so I just heard her shifting around and barely massaging my back but most importantly... she stopped massaging me early because I guess some of my time got used when THEY pulled my boyfriend into for my appointment. No one told me my massage was going to be shortened when I laid down. Then when I got to the front, they tried to charge me for the full 80 minute massage?!? I abruptly told them they needed to fix that as I only got a 50 minute massage. They did fix it, they gave me a birthday gift and they were very nice. But the massage was a terrible experience especially being that it was for my birthday and that I chose the masseuse everyone on here was raving about. I feel like I wasted my money as the service I paid for was less than subpar and was less time than what I booked. The prices of their massages are not something anyone wants to waste. Not to mention the drive was an hour from me and I had high hopes going in. Customer service from the front desk was great, spa and lounge vibes were beautiful, and my facial with Georgetta was great. It's just a shame that I wasted my money on the massage service and my boyfriend did not have a great experience just based on the fact that the staff made it seem like it was his fault at the time too. read more

This was my first time here. The facility is very nice and relaxing. I scheduled a deep tissue massage and an acne facial and they were both nice. I'm taking off one star because I scheduled the massage with a specific person and they changed it on me last minute (which is fine, things happen), but it wasn't really a deep tissue and more of a Swedish. I asked for more pressure which helped and it overall felt great, but it wasn't what I wanted. read more

I took my man here for his birthday. He was gifted LaToya (who was amazing per him) and I was given thee most ill-equipped, under-trained Julianna. When I say terrible, I mean absolutely horrendous. Where should I start-from my boobs being exposed, from being hit with the bottle of oil, from her texting on her phone whilst barely touching me at one point, from being vigorously rubbed with massive amounts of oil, from not even being massaged but just getting oil slathered on me-it was so bad I couldn't help but chuckle throughout my experience. I politely stopped her during my session and said thank you for your time, this is uncomfortable, I'm good. I still paid for my services but I did not tip her. Essence spa was by far the best spa I have been to in a long time. Once you arrive their is a parking lot on the side of the building. Which is even a plus. When entering the building you are greeted by the front desk team. The lady at the front desk was so sweet. She even asked if I parked in the lot because she didn't want me to have to worry about getting a ticket. After feeling on a small amount of paperwork. She then gave me a tour of the facility. The facility is beyond beautiful and very clean. I was given a locker with a key it had a fresh towel and robe in it with flip flops. I was also informed to have a seat in the sauna to relax before my message. I decided to opt out on the sauna, when entering the relaxation room it was so peaceful you could fall asleep in it. I was greeted by my masseuse and she escorted me to the room. I received the hot stone massage and it was amazing. I only get the massage for 50 minutes but the 50 minutes were just what I needed. Once the massage was over I was exported to the relaxation room so further relax for however long I need it. Overall I give this entire spot in the facility and staff a five star rating it was more than I expected and I am truly relaxed. I definitely will be going back soon. read more

My husband and I recently had a spa day here for our 10 year anniversary, and it was absolutely wonderful! I can't believe we only live 10 minutes away, and I never knew about this spa. Both the massages and ambiance were fantastic. The salon is large and offers a variety of services, I will definitely be back. We had an issue with a gift card when we were checking out (their system said it was expired, and we were using it on the "valid until" date after we were delayed using it due to Covid). The manager followed up afterwards to honor the gift card, refund the gift amount, and explain that their gift cards would not have expiration dates moving forward. She could not have been nicer and more accommodating. Overall great experience! read more

I have been a customer for a while and coming regularly for several treatments. I was rebooking every time for next service which allows you to have a 10% discount. This time I called to reschedule to due to a work conflict two days in advance and I was informed that since I I did not call a week before I will lose the discount. I find this policy very unfriendly for customers as sometimes things happen close to the date out of your control. Not sure how this kind of policy brings and keeps customers. read more

This place is great. I've been here for waxing services, massage and most recently for a facial. The front desk staff are very friendly and welcoming and the spaces where you change, wait for your service and receive your service are all very calming, quiet and clean. You can use the sauna and/or steam room after your services. They also have yoga and pilates classes. I haven't tried them, but based on my other experiences here, am definitely going to check them out. There is free parking as well. You get all the quality and range of services from a place in the Loop with none of that hassle. read more

A huge and beautiful facility, offering everything from chemical peels, to microdermabrasion, to stone massages. I went for the Pretty in Pink special, which was laser hair treatment. The girl who did the treatment on me went a little overboard in describing what was going to happen. She made it out to be like there was going to be an extreme amount of pain (maybe I just have a high pain tolerance?) and it really just felt like a slightly more painful tweeze. My chin looked and felt great for the day or two after, but now the area is rough and looks like nothing has changed - amount of hair-wise that is. I realize they said you should expect to come back more than once, but I thought for certain I would be able to see a noticeable difference right off the bat. Oh well, thats why I bought the discounted package, to see if it was worth it or not. And another irritating thing, they offer all these other things, like mesotherapy, yoga, nutritional planning and martial arts, but neither on the website or the brochure they gave me had any indication of price. This leaves me with two impressions: 1) if you have to ask you can't afford it or 2) they do this on purpose so when you do inquire you get the hard sell. Both of which stink! I would like to frequent the Essence Med Spa, especially to take advantage of the great rain showers and lounge area, but there are some definite kinks in the information relay that need to be worked out first. read more

The staff was very friendly. Once I completed my paperwork, I was giving a tour of the facility, which was nice, because it gave me a chance to see all of what Essence MedSpa & Wellness has to offer, even if I didn't use a particular service, I can refer it to other people. I mean...I can go on and on about the facility, but I think you need to experience it for yourself...kinda wish I had taken pictures. The highlight of my visit was the relaxation room. I started going here for laser hair removal. Despite the removal working not 100%, the spa is quite clean and well kept. The friendly staff will get you free coffee or tea from their shop when you arrive. The service is quick despite painful. The downside for me is that it is a far drive from where I live in Lakeview East. It can take up to 45+ minutes to get to the spa. I wouldn't say that this place is in Chicago at all because you have to drive through some suburbs to get there! read more
