Stopped here with my dad on a whim and glad we did. Breaded tenderloins with fries for lunch did not disappoint and the Boiler Gold beer was a good choice to pair with the meal. Went to Sixth Street Dive while on a work trip because the reviews seemed good. I was very disappointed. The area was definitely suspect (some people outside were walking around banging against the buildings) and the food wasn't great. They have a really strange beer selection (not a good one, by any means) and the place itself was pretty dingy. I expected it to be divey, because that's in the name, but it was more of a dirty sports bar than anything. The tacos I got weren't very good - the meat was not well seasoned and the options were super limited. Not sure why it's so highly rated but I definitely wouldn't go back. read more

Holy moly, best burger in the Greater Lafayette area - hands down. Also, don't forget to get the queso for your fries as it's a delicious earthy cheese with just enough spice to give it character. Pro tip: dip your burger into the queso with every bite. Haven't sampled the rest of the menu but if it's anything like the burgers, you won't be disappointed. Update: tried the pork burrito. Outstanding. Great flavor on the pork and it's coated in their delicious queso. One of the best dive bars I've been too!!!! The fish and chips was on point!!!! The fish had a perfect non-greasy crunch on the outside and was super moist and delicious on the inside. It was so soft and delicious it melted like butter in my mouth. My husband had the chickens he ate every last bit of it! If he hadn't been so full he would've ordered more. Also the bartender definitely knew how to make her mixed drinks. The atmosphere was very relaxed and chill. I definitely plan on coming here way more often!!! read more

I couldn't resist trying the stuffed avocados, but thought they were more of a gimmick than anything else. And at $13 for a single avocado (with some fillings but still) it's a pretty big rip-off. I also got sides of rice and beans, which I thought were average at best and a fairly stingy portion for the price. I've go here for take out food sometimes since it's in walking distance from my place. Many of the reviews rave about the great food here, but if says the food is just alright. I really like the fish from the fish and chips and their burgers and chicken sandwiches are ok for the price and speed. The tacos are not my favorite. My biggest complaint though is that the fries suck. Never hot, kind of chewy and bland. They also host drag shows sometimes which is really not my scene. The hype for this place was awesome and I was so excited to try it! We arrived and were greeted nicely and told to have a seat. They weren't busy at all. After about 8 minutes someone asked if we had been helped and we said no. They gave us menus and took our drinks. They brought the drinks and never came back.... we waited about 20 minutes just sitting there and left for Digbys instead. I'm hoping it was a bad day so hopefully I can convince my wife to try again some other time. read more

I'm an out of towner, so locals please forgive me. Sixth Street Dive Bar is hands down the best food I've encountered in Lafayette. I'm a dive bar fan, so this was a pretty easy sell, but holy shit was I impressed with the food. The deliciousness of this place was only surpassed by the quintessential ambiance. Currently, I'm watching Gremlins and listening to Billy Idol--doesn't get much better than that folks. The booze was booze served in tiny mason jars (I know, I know, kind of hipster and I love it) and it was a very adequate pour (some of these college bars have a tendency to over pour and pander to the back patting, keg tapping, Boiler Makers). The menu offers Hoosier favorites as well as Tex-Mex. I ordered the chips and salsa for an app. The chips were fried seconds before they arrived and the salsa was homemade and delicious. For my meal I ordered the cheese and onion enchiladas which were bomb. They had chili con carne on top of them, but it was tastefully done. This wasn't a greasy spoon shit show of chili, just enough to get their point across. All in all everything was delicious and homemade. I can not fault this place in any way, shape or form. I'm not kidding when I say that I have not enjoyed my stay here in Lafayette all that much, but 6th St. Dive has redeemed Lafayette, In. for me. It is no longer just another shit hole in the middle of the country. It's a shit hole with a fantastic bar hidden away near the Shenandoah river. Stopped in after Purdue game on Saturday afternoon. Plenty of tables available. The Totchos appetizer was really good. Spouse had tenderloin, it was large "Indiana" style. I had chicken burrito, which had great flavor. Servings were large, staff was friendly, and prices very reasonable. Will definitely stop by again. read more

I watched the bartender eat food off a plate while the food had sat there getting cold for over ten minutes. It wasn't just this meal affected but another plate too. It was a full on grab, his hands in other peoples fries, not a grab one off the top. After watching that we had to leave. We were so disgusted. My husband and I love to eat here, this is the fifth time we have been here, the previous times I always showed my passport because I am not American and the girl who received us tonight told me that I needed my VISA to enter, we just wanted food, we did not even want to drink. It's the first time they tell me they need a US document to allow access to the place. My question is, how do Europeans who only have a European passport to enter to the United States? They can not enjoy this bar? I think it's VERY stupid and unacceptable because wherever I go, my passport is my ID here and I've never been told otherwise. read more

We've been driving past this place on the way home for a few weeks now. My husbands coworker suggested we stop in. It was a lot larger than it looks from the outside. A very casual atmosphere with games along a shelf on the wall - so we chose Connect Four to play during dinner. We ordered the totchos, tenderloin sandwich, and beer battered stuffed avocado. I loved the totchos - they were filled with flavor, had a heaping of toppings, and the chili they used instead of ground beef was a great touch. The tenderloin was average but large, just as a lot of the pictures show. The avocado was a letdown, given that it's described as a house specialty and Texas favorite I thought it'd be at least as good as the other items if not better but that wasn't the case. read more

So, I love this place! I did not like Indiana tacos before coming here. Once I came to Sixth Street for lunch I was sold! Love the tacos, beer selection and music in the evening. Lunch hour is the best time to go if you want to skip a packed bar, but in the evening it's just as exciting for a night out! I would recommend this place because I can sit anywhere and still see the band, but also talk with my friends without screaming over people. read more

Can't wait to go back! The menu is burgers and basic Tex-Mex. Food was extremely fresh (salsa and picante). Tortillas were not from a bag sitting in refrigerator for weeks. Chicken was juicy and subtle. The 'dive bar' atmosphere is overly cultivated but in a good way. Service friendly and fast and inexpensive. Nice beer selection (IPA's) and I don't drink much beer. Near Purdue campus, but far away enough to be integrated into a real neighborhood. read more
