Let me start by saying: this ain't no dive bar. Well, maybe it is... but not in the truest sense. It would be more accurate, if the name was: Sixth Street Hipster Bar. It's a cool space, with lots of windows, a large bar, plenty of tables, and a stage for a band. I was here on a recent Friday night (May 4th, 2018), and the place was jammed with a friendly, and wide-ranging crowd (young, old, students, families, townies, you name it). SSD is known for its pork tenderloin sandwich. Now everybody knows Iowa, (and specifically Keokuk Iowa), has the best pork tenderloin. But, I thought I'd give it a shot. It was served on a branded bun, with a knife stabbed through it. For some odd reason, both of those heightened my expectations. The sandwich was very good - not great - but very good. The meat should be pounded thinner, and they added a spicy seasoning that was unexpected. I was pleased with the prompt and friendly service. The band wasn't good, but won't impact my rating. I think all around this is a four-star establishment, so visit with confidence. Sixth Street Dive is stylishly fashionable in a grunge sense. The staff look and dress mean, but they've had their shots and don't bite. Just walk in like you know what you're doing, don't be scared. Check out the specials on the board and peruse the big menu. The portions are largish so come hungry. Big bar selections and some good drafts, and more cans/bottles in the cooler. Draft beer and margaritas served in Mason jar type glasses. I'm only giving three stars because it's too loud, and unnecessarily so. I visited on Friday for late lunch. There were four of us and we could barely hear each other at the table. The server had to lean down to hear us. A nice thing here, you can choose various seating options: traditional bar seats, pub tables by the window, normal tables, or picnic tables. read more

Went to the soft opening of the new ownership. Old dive food quality appears to be back. Dive sauce is back for a charge. No shoestring fries yet but they are coming. Staff is friendly and pretty attentive. The atmosphere is good. Tenderloin and nachos were on point. Overall it's like the old dive with higher beer prices. Look forward to seeing if the quality and service keeps up. Will be visiting again soon. read more

Unreal spot at Purdue. Started with can of American porter that was delicious and only $6, next the house made tortilla chips and queso. Might be best homemade chips I've ever eaten. Queso was spot on. The tenderloin sandwich was the star of the show. Wow this thing was hammered paper thin. Out of this world how delicious this sandwich was, I devoured every morsel. I was visiting my best friend from college and her family (December 2019). She wanted to do brunch here with her, her husband and me. I had never had it before so I was looking forward to trying it. We got seated as soon as we walked in. We got the Beignets and asked for all 3 sauces so I could try it since it was my first time. Apparently her daughter really likes the beignets, so they ordered an extra order to go for her to share with her mom. Then for my meal, I got the Chilaquiles. The staff were friendly. It wasn't very busy while we were there. The food was okay. I don't know if any place would fill the void that the chicken wings at Spurlocks created when they closed down, but the wings at 6th St dive come the closest; especially with their dive sauce. I came here on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. Parking could be better, but luckily we found a spot around the corner. The menu looks pretty great I definitely want to come back and try more things because I couldn't decide what to get! Ultimately, I went with the fish n chips and my boyfriend got the fried chicken sandwich with tater tots. Both were delicious! I loved their homemade tarter sauce and their fries were better than average in my opinion! The only thing I had a problem with was the fact that my water tasted kind of sweet like fruit punch. I suppose that Valentine's Day wasn't the best time to come to a place that calls itself a dive bar, but our experience was uneven this round. First the good - the beers on tap are exceptional. The "totchos" were a creative touch (think nachos, but with tater tots), and the wings were great (tasty, but advertised as "really hot", and actually quite mild). On the negative side, we ordered blackened chicken 'n chips, and got breaded instead. They were gracious about putting in another order for what we ordered immediately, and left the breaded chicken strips "to snack on" while they redid the order. Both were very tasty. We didn't expect, and didn't appreciate, the abundance of naked women on the TV screens. The big bearded guy at the sound table in the fishnet stockings and a skirt was also kinda hard to ignore. The entertainment hadn't started when we left, so he may have been quite entertaining. But all around, the whole experience didn't make for a very relaxing, enjoyable evening (for us, at least), and we'll think twice about coming next time. read more

I'm an old Boilermaker so I remember slumming across the river to mix with the locals with a Pabst Blue Ribbon. Now it carries a hip throw back Texan vibe with enough distance from Purdue that it's not ordinary. Margaritas are on tap delivering a suitable punch of flavor and buzz. The vegetarian tacos with beer battered avocados offered a healthy dose of crunchy and smooth. The basic burger is double stacked and buttered for a great point of difference. Great news - Sixth Street is back. We had a few average meals there a year ago, decided to give it another try. Glad we did. Great service amazing food. Got our usual - veggie burrito, chicken burrito, green sauce. Guac and queso. Took awhile to the appetizers, so they comped then guac. Great vibes. The name of the place fits it well. The atmosphere is fine but the prices are high for what you get. I got a Taco Salad and was given a choice of Salsa or Ranch dressing. I asked if the Salsa was spicy and told it wasn't. When I got the salad I tasted the salsa before it put it on the salad and it was too spicy for me. I asked for Ranch as I like it. They had given me 2 salsas but only 1 ranch. The salad was really bitter and I normally like taco salads wherever I go, so I'm not sure what was on this. Maybe it was the lettuce. I got my ticket and they charged $1 for the ranch. I questioned it but didn't really get a good answer. It was a real small little cup, definitely not worth a dollar. It was real thin like it was watered down. I'll never go back to this place and wouldn't recommend it to anyone either. read more

The service is quick, and patient while going over their specials and featured beers. Don't miss the Sunday brunch! And don't sleep on the Chicago Beef or Poutine if you're luckily enough to find yourself at this little gem when they are featured specials. Just what us Texans were looking for! After moving our kid's college stuff into storage across the street, we wandered over to Sixth Street Dive for some lunch and were pleasantly surprised to find the Tex-Mex inspired menu. Plus the cold local beers were great, served in jars. We ordered chips & salsa, queso, quesadillas and enchilada--everything was pretty on point though the enchiladas could have used more sauce. Talk about all kinds of yes. This has been my go-to bar whenever we want to go out for a drink. The place has this welcoming charm about it and everyone that works there is incredibly pleasant. You'll notice a big window right at the front that they'll open when it's nice out and it really adds a lot to the ambiance of the place. The food. Oh my, it is great, especially for a bar. My personal preference is the tacos, so get those if you're gonna take my word on this, but you can't go wrong with a burger or their tater tots. The bar is your standard stocked bar with all your liquors and local beers and even some from St. Louis' brewery, Urban Chestnut (woot woot!) One thing that I do like that they do here that I haven't seen at other bars that I've been to is that they play movies here. There's no sound but the subtitles are on, but they are classic films that are good to just watch while you're there doing whatever it is you're doing, and I can appreciate that. One of the times I was there they had The Three Stooges on and that in particular struck the perfect chord for me. It brought back waves of nostalgia with my family and I appreciate that. They have trivia nights on Wednesday and also live music from time to time so it's really just a good bar for all occasions. Now get drinking at Sixth Street Dive. Responsibly of course. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by Sixth Street Dive! We went on a Wednesday night and there were lots of people there. The place itself is very welcoming and the staff are friendly and helpful. It looks like a regular bar, so we weren't expecting much from the food. The food was the highlight of the entire night! We loved everything we got. Lots of Tex-Mex and traditional Indianan bar food like tenderloin and chicken. There are a ton of vegetarian options and some could easily be made vegan. I had the vegetarian nachos and they were phenomenal. Everything tasted fresh and handmade. The drinks were great too. The prices were great. Drinks for $4 and all of our entrees were reasonably priced as well. We loved Six Street Dive and hope to be back a lot more!!! read more

Came here on a random Thursday night around 730pm for drinks. The beer selection did not disappoint, but they can improve their international offerings. The staff was extremely helpful and nice and generous in offering beer samples too. I did not order food, but would come back as many patrons ordered food. The place is clean and the name Dive is quite misleading. It is quaint, industrial, minimal comfort but predictable. Lots of "art" on the walls that seem like memorabilia. Some of the folks in my department LOVE the Sixth Street Dive. They model themselves off of various similar establishments in Austin, Texas, where I lived for about 10 years. This is also where I note that I'm a native Texan, so I have high standards when it comes to TexMex. As far as the bar itself goes, they have a good selection, always have Shiner available (I mean, priorities, right?), and their margaritas are delicious. Although I rarely drink to excess (it's just not as fun when you live a 30 minute drive away), if I were to decide to have a night out drinking, I'd love it to be here. That said, I still haven't found food I like. Their queso is okay-for-central-Indiana, but not Texas-great. I had their chicken-stuffed avocado, and it was, again, okay. I've tried their chicken sandwich (too dry) and their quesadilla (meh). So I keep trying. There has to be something on the menu that I'll love, right? But for now...it mostly remains a place where I like to go get a drink, and I'll eat ahead of time. read more

Such a fun scene. This dive has one of the best kept secrets in town, their Tex-Mex dishes. Locals are starting to catch on, so this secret won't last long. They have unique specials, like Hoosier Poutine, that I missed and am so sad about!! My husband and I recently stopped by for lunch and fell in love. The bartender was super personal, shocker I know, and was really excited to share their menu and talk about his favorite items--he recommended their queso and it really was worth bragging about. I could have just snacked on that and their chips all meal. We both ordered their taco dinner and loved it. Their ride and beans were surprisingly delicious and the meat was so well prepared. I stop by this place as I was visiting Lafayette. The place is located right near downtown and had easy parking. I stopped by for lunch. I had no trouble finding a spot at the bar. The waitress was very nice and very attentive to me. I appreciated that she constantly was filling up my water glass as it was very hot that day. I ordered a taco salad in a tortilla bowl. A friend and I were looking for a cheap good place to eat so we checked out yelp and saw this place with high ratings! We decided to check it out! This place was awesome! They have a big selection of games you can play at your table including giant jenga, and the food was great! We split guacamole and chips which were fresh fried chips, and a double decker hamburger...probably the best I've eaten here in Lafayette! The owner stopped to talk to us and the other staff was laid back and friendly! Next time we are getting the tacos which I heard are the best! Ate here when they first opened and had a good experience for price. Decided to head back for another lunch, but was disappointed to find they've raised their prices to make it a 2-3 star place. What I mean is they are charging prices that put them in another group of competitors that hurts them. $45 for lunch, 2 chicken sandwiches, an appetizer, one water, one coke. This puts them in line with much higher quality restaurants, completely out of the "dive" category . At these prices you are much better off at the Black Sparrow, the Bryant or East End Grill. Same prices, better food. Side note, I'm not a Bru Burger fan, but prices are in this range. read more
