Girl golfer here... You cannot go wrong placing a golf course in the Gorge. This visually stunning par 3 course is challenging and fun! Not only that, you can play golf, fling golf (a Shark tank cross between golf and lacrosse), disc golf, or their putting course in the almost obnoxious Pacific Northwest beauty of the Colombia River Gorge. Staff is very friendly (Guy in the golf shop and the ranger, whose name I didn't catch--super-friendly!). There are cocktails in cans that you can purchase before heading out. We played the golf course and the putting course. It offers challenges in both keeping your ball out of the woods and water and with the fast turf greens. It was a lot of fun and you can't miss out on the scenery (did I already mention that?). read more

The grounds are beautiful, especially the pool and hot tub area. Be aware that no drinks are allowed near them, which takes away from the relaxing atmosphere. It would have been nice to have some music playing. Unfortunately, the restaurant was a major disappointment. The food was not good, and the service was even worse. When we asked for a dessert menu, the waitress simply said, "Just chocolate cake with ice cream." She never cleared a single drink or plate from our table during the meal. Do not order the chicken pesto pizza. It is a dry, flavorless flatbread. The only "pizza"worth eating was The Little Piggy, the only item that actually resembled a pizza. Overall, skip the restaurant. The setting is attractive, but the experience lacks everything else. It's just like going on a date with someone who looks great but has a bad personality. read more

Notice there are two Yelp destinations for this business. The other has three stars. Just returned from a weekend here. On the plus side the location is beautiful. Then there's the lodge which was likely amazing in the 1990s. The room smelled of dirty carpet. The place looks worn around the edges. The service is the worst I've ever experienced. The food was poor quality. Rather than accommodating guests the restaurant manager lectured us after a friend joined our group of four. Asked a waitress if she could wipe off our table and she tossed us a towel. I would never go there again. One person in our group had a gluten allergy (celiac) and got sick from the food after being assured that it was properly prepared. read more

Skamania Lodge Great Place - found this resort on a web search off the Columbia River. The lodge opened in 1993, overlooking the Columbia River Gorge & Cascade Mountains. Decorated with local artwork depicting Native American History of the Columbia River Gorge It's about 20 minutes from Portland airport, beautiful drive along the Columbia River that takes you past Multnomah Falls (a must-see attraction), crossing over the Bridge of Gods (I have no idea why they call it that) into Washington and then a super short drive to the resort. One Night Stay: Check in was a breeze, entering the Lodge foyer there's roaring fireplace (85 ft tall) surrounded by a laid-back sitting area with incredible views of the river. Our room was located on the second floor with a large window that gave us a gorgeous view of the Columbia River & the snow-covered Cascade mountains. We booked a king room - very clean and cozy. The room provides a coffee maker, safe, robes, slippers, frig and fireplace. Bed was super comfortable - very relaxing. The resort offers many amenities - Full Spa, Olympic sized heated indoor saltwater pool along with indoor and outdoor Hot Tubs, Sauna and Mens & woman Locker Rooms with private Hot Tubs. There are two restaurants on the property: River Rock (offering bar seating & dining room) we sat at the bar & had appetizers, Pork Belly Mac n' Cheese along with BBQ shrimp both dishes were amazing. The other restaurant is called the Cascade Dining Room: We had breakfast in the morning before leaving and it was very good. There is so much to do on the property offering Golf, Zip Line, Tennis, Basketball courts, Tree Top Obstacle Course, Walking and Hiking Trails, Axe Throwing. It's a great place for a family reunion with plenty to do or even a company retreat. We will return with the family for a reunion with all the kids. read more

What a complete sham. This is not a golf course. It used to be but now it is a silly little par 3 course that has astro turf all over the place. It is hideous to see the tragic transformation of a once beautiful golf course into an awful corporate environment harming nonsense. Once upon a time you could golf there with a cart very reasonably and do so with your dog if so inclined. It was a beautiful and challenging golf course. I certainly will never set foot there again. read more

5 stars!! I took my first golf lesson here and had Darron as our instructor. He explained everything we needed to know as beginners. My grandma and I had a wonderful time and learned a lot. By the end we were hitting great shots with the P wedge. When we went to do the 9 hole course later in the day, Darron was nice enough to escort us and take our picture at the first hole. He also checked on us at the end. Well worth the cost of the lesson and big kudos to Darron. We can't wait to try the 18 hole putting course next time, read more

My favorite though was brunch. You don't want to miss it! I've been perusing the tree houses - now that would be an experience! This place used to be the best place to go when it first opened. Everything was just five star but now it's rundown and a disappointment. You can't beat the view however, from the hotel that is beautiful but the Room themselves are a little bit dated. We had mosquitoes in the room because they forgot to put the screens on the windows so we were bitten a lot the first night. They used to have a five star restaurant, which was amazing but that doesn't seem to exist anymore. It's just very blasé. The bar in the dining room have pretty much the same food. It's a nice getaway but it's really not as good as it used to be. Also, when we checked in, we had to wait about 30 minutes, there was only one person There and she was left alone and was New and didn't even acknowledge us until we came up to the desk to check in. she didn't tried to ask for help. It was just ridiculous. The pool itself. It's good for Kids. It's inside. It looks a little rundown the outside hot tub is nice. The whole place just needs a refresh. They need to get a new chef they need to get new management. It's not top-of-the-line anymore. I give it about a C or B grade. read more

We've been going to Skamania Lodge since opened in the '90s. The staff is unfailingly polite and helpful. Through menu changes (sure miss the breakfast salmon hash) the food has been great and we love the experience. Of course we'll be back. read more

We've eaten three meals here so far, 2 dinners and 1 breakfast. The food has ben excellent (the steelhead was some of the best fish I've ever had) but what really made it special was the servers. The first dinner the waiter was Russell Johnson. His suggestions and personality really added to the evening. Them Mya (sp?) was so cheerful and efficient at breakfast -what a pleasure. Finally tonight the waiter was Mike and, like Russell, really added to the experience. Great food, great setting and great service. read more

It has never been the same without the over stuffed rockers facing the windows and the absolutely beautiful view. Modern furniture-no way! Gas fireplace-really....! No wood smell??? Just played at the newly installed "THE LITTLE EAGLE 18" at Skamania Lodge. It was so much fun! It's basically miniature golf, or putt putt golf, which is really hard to find anymore. Beautifully landscaped, and of course beautiful views of the Columbia Gorge. Great way to spend some time having lunch and playing mini golf. While we were 4 adults having a great afternoon, it's a great spot for families too! read more

The lodge has a perfect up river view of the Columbia River surrounded by tree covered mountains. The lodge has a great staff, good restaurants and cool amenities such as a tier to tier zip line as well as "tree house" rentals, golf and frisbee golf. BUT the lodge is huge and has many rooms fill so their mainstay, as mentioned by the desk clerk, is conventions and groups of all sizes. This seems to be where the rub comes in for me. If you come as a family or to celebrate and event I think you might notice more of this corporate environment that one might like. If you are traveling with a dog they claim to be pet friendly but when you see the excessive daily dog fee perhaps "dog tolerant" might be a better description. The lodge offers just two dining tables for dog owners and in four days were able to use one once when we waited 40 minutes for a large group to finish. Outside on the lawn where you can have a cocktail and enjoy the view you will often have an assortment of corporate folks discussing work and dropping the F bomb constantly. When you walk up to get a drink at the bar, as they do not provide outside drink service, you can wait quite a while as all the folks with name badges bulk up after a meeting to get refreshments and keep the bartender busy. On the lodge's website they list "forest bathing" as one of the amenities but its hard to get that experience when the next corporation coming in for some reason pulled 15 cars into a circle on the back lawn advertising their product while sufficiently blocking the beautiful view previously mentioned. In the middle of this car corral was the play area for the kids to kick a soccer ball. So, I guess it comes down to a split personality for the lodge. They infer to a kind of Columbia Gorge experience but have decided to sell it out to any and all. If my company took me there I would be very happy but I paid over and above for a family celebration and did not get that value. read more

IT'S A SHAME Skamania got rid of the beautiful 18-hole course and replaced with a couple of poor substitutes. Having played the course for the past 20 years it was disheartening to see the rolling hills of the old fairways wasting away while playing the uninspiring new nine-hole course. The saving grace of the nine-hole course could have been the still inspiring scenery around Skamania Lodge, but the course designers squandered that by using artificial turf for the greens and tee boxes. Don't waste your money on this golfing "experience", and instead just walk some of the trails around the course. read more

Recently payed the new 9 hole short course with my wife during a getaway. Greens and Tees are artificial turf but the scenery was beautiful and we had fun. Definitely practice on the green before you hit the first hole. There's a different feel since the greens are artificial. Found myself thinking this is a fantastic family course as they had kids tees (sunshine), wasn't too challenging for beginners and was an absolute beautiful walk. Overall, a fun course for the family, if you don't mind taking a break from your driver and you can accept artificial greens. read more

The golf course has reopened as a 9-hole but with artificial turf on the greens and tee boxes. Some challenging and scenic holes, but the greens are artificial. There is a long hike between holes 4 and 5 -- room for a few more holes. All in all, not a bad course, but the greens are artificial -- did I mention that? Not sure what the long-term plan is. There's also an 18-hole mini-golf course, which looks fun. read more

One word. CLEAN. I am such a picky person when it comes to hotel cleanliness. I always notice dirty carpets and dust. None of that here. Super clean rooms. We stayed in 2 different rooms and both were really nice. The river and Mountain View was amazing. The pool and hot tubs, WOW! The pool was super warm, and the outdoor hot tub was so cozy. I'd like to mention Erik at the front desk. The most helpful front desk agent I've ever worked with. We had some special requests and he took his time to accommodate us, such awesome service. I hope he gets a promotion because he knows how to provide amazing guest service. We enjoyed our stay a lot, definitely coming back and bringing our babies next time! read more

NOT WORTH THE MONEY. Unless you get a groupon for $99/night, do not waste your money. The beds are horrific unless you're on the 4th floor (upgrade fee) and those are marginal at best. The bathrooms are filthy, pink mildew all over the bath tiles (improved but present on the 4th floor. Music jack for iPhone 4 and older, unless you're on the 4th floor. No lodge/spa soaps or shampoos, refillable, clumpy, liquid dispensers. Not even a bar of soap-- unless you're on the 4th floor; you get one bar. We paid $750 for 2 nights (one on first floor- I was in tears by morning, managed only 3 hours of sleep and could not move my neck or right arm for about a week due to the bed. One night on 4th floor. Marginally better bed, better view, iPhone 5 speakers, less mildew & a bar of soap.) Wedding was beautiful, but this was done with an outside wedding planner, not Skamania. Food was from outside Skamania as well. Beautiful scenery, and grounds. Don't waste your money on an overnight stay. read more

I had a great time playing at Skamania Lodge. The course is very difficult you could be in for a long day if you don't keep it straight down the fairway. I would definitely think about leaving your driver at home for this course (I think I used mine 3 times the whole round).The course was in amazing shape I feel like every bad break I had I deserved. There are some amazing views of the Columbia River Gorge plus the layout of the course really helps you appreciate the true beauty of what the great northwest has to offer. This is the first 5 star rating I have given out to a golf course and the reason being is the friendly atmosphere and the outstanding staff in the pro shop who helped make my round possible. I will definitely be back to play again! read more

Wow! I am surprised that there are no reviews of this excellent golf course. Skamania is located on the Washington side of the Columbia River (Oregonians cross over on The Bridge of the Gods - $1 toll). Nestled in among giant fir trees (okay, not giant like, say a redwood, but pretty darn big!) this 18 hole golf course is one challenging track. It is a par 70 course (34/36), so you need to remember that when you make the turn and are impressed with your front nine score. The course is very tight, narrowed down by those previously mentioned fir tree and various and insidious brush like growths. They have a unique rule that if you hit a ball into the trees and brush, you drop one near it's point of departure and take a stroke penalty. DO NOT look for your ball. Not sure if this rule is to keep play moving smoothly, or to prevent golfers from becoming lost. I played it yesterday (4/11) and after one of the rainiest March on record, expected the course to be very soft, but it wasn't. Fairways were neatly mowed and the ball rolled fairly well on them. Greens were in excellent shape, though just a touch slower than they looked. Overall, the course was very close to summer conditions. But, as nice the course is, the scenery is worth the trip. Beautiful views of the Columbia River and the surrounding mountains. Sometimes hard to keep your mind on your game because your eyes are drawn to the majesty that surrounds you. I have never stayed at the Lodge or eaten at the Grill, so cannot comment on those amenities, but can say that the pro shop staff, starters, and course marshalls are friendly and helpful - five stars for them alone. O, one last thing, I highly recommend using a power cart. There are many steep climbs that can easily sap your energy. Hope you enjoy Skamania golf as much as I did. read more

WOW... absolutely breathtaking! Challenging as a MOFO! Tips: If you golf... bring lots of balls! bring your camera... and be prepared to pay for a golf cart. I wouldn't recommend walking this course with all of the elevation changes. Doubt they even allow walking. I will be back! great nice friendly staff, awesome food too! You can order food from the grill on the turn and they make amazing breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches. read more

Having played the 18 hole course many times over the past years, I was so disappointed to see it replaced with the 9 hole par 3 course. The tee boxes are like playing off a mat at the driving range and you can't tee up the ball. The greens are artificial turf like the 18 hole putting course and are totally unpredictable on where your ball will roll. For seniors, it's too far between holes to walk the course so a cart is necessary. Limited cart availability. Sorry to see they didn't spend the money to make it a first class par 3 course. The lodge is great, the restaurants are great, the 18 hole putting course is great and the views are great but not likely to return to play this par 3 course. Very sad. Used to be one of my favorites in the PNW. read more

This place was awesome! Definitely get a golf cart. I wish I could remember the name of the young man that helped us so much on our anniversary the afternoon of August 13th. He was so nice and funny. We might as well have been brand new golfers and he was very patient with us getting started up. We had to let some people pass us as we were very slow. We even took a break and drove around the course, used the restroom and refilled our water jug on hole 5. Three glorious hours well spent! read more

Played front 9 today while staying at the resort .A very well maintained course that is a bit tight and short. Good views but maybe all the Oregon courses are like that as first one I have played on. T boxes were even and the greens rolled true though a bit slow but I was first out and following them watering it. Good driving range. Would definitely play again. Huge props to the staff. There was a mix up on day - I don't know if it was the guy I made the time with or me but they apologized as if it was their mistake completely and fit me in around a tournament for 9 holes. The person in the pro shop was names Guy and one of the most gracious person ever including all the many resort courses, tpc etc course I have been too. Everyone else I meet was cool. I only played 9 so not sure of value as I don't know what their full course rare is as well as how it would compare to others in the area read more
