I have been going to this clinic almost a year now. I can't be more pleased and happier with the Doctor and Staff! My Big Pup gets super excited when we go. BIG energy, a little unbearable for me. The staff has taken over to calm him down. What a relief for me. The Doctor is very transparent, gets to the point. He gives the best- and worst-case scenario. He has too right, followed by options to help better whatever is going on with your baby. He gives you time to make up your mind and does not try to rush you or your decision. The whole staff is wonderful from all of my experiences there. Super helpful even on the phone. My questions and request are all answered and granted very fast. Honestly the worst vet I've experienced in NYC. My cat came in a year ago to receive a check up and bloodwork as a well as a refill for a standing prescription to treat megacolon. The clinic failed to get enough blood to yield a lab result. On top of that months they refused to refill her prescription which was still valid citing that the original doctor no longer worked with them and they could not refill her valid prescription without another visit. The medication refill is something my cat needs every single month for the rest of her life and it is so incredibly frustrating to have a prescription go unfilled because staff changed. The service is unreliable and unprofessional. Any lapse in her medication will result in a hospitalization and I couldn't trust this clinic to give her the care she needed. I will be taking my cat and trust her cat with someone who has experience to treat cats with megacolon. I would suggest you look elsewhere too. read more

Warning to all pet owners!!!! 1) The front desk staff is TERRIBLE! They are disorganized and do not communicate with one another. Example: at least twice once I pay my bill I have another front desk person ask for me to pay it again (not realizing I'd already been swiped) I could live with a genuine mistake but they also have gotten the wrong file and called my dog by the wrong name. There's one guy who's there a lot and he is genuinely rude/dismissive, the girl is usually very nice but neither of them seems to know what's going on within the office and therefor a lot of information is just lost because their front desk has either not been trained or really doesn't know how things should be run. 2) Vet diagnoses for $$$! I've been in 2x's for a skin issue with my dog, 1st time fine she had ringworm I myself had come to the same conclusion with very little internet knowledge. 2nd time I didn't know if it was rash or ringworm and fearful it was fungus again they recommended the same treatment (visits were 3+ months apart). We have another dog that comes for play dates and had a similar rash went to her vet had a sample taken (we were not offered this test) and it came back as an allergy. Sure enough we had the another vet take a look and it was not fungus. But 465 dollars later how would we know when we put our trust in this group? Did I mention the vet assured us a steroid treatment for my 6 month old pure breed bulldog was best and gave her multiple shots telling us that's the best thing to do only to find out that it's not recommended for our dogs breed at such a young age. Now this could be just a difference in how one vet treats their animals to another. But the amount of knowledge, time and care the 2nd vet (different practice) took with us and the other dog was incredible! 3) The final nail in the coffin is as follows! I made an appointment for my dog to be spayed with the office for beginning of July (before we knew about the misdiagnosis and reached out to the other vet) I'm waiting for the prep call and when I get it that Friday (appointment was for Monday) they call to say sorry they had to bump her from surgery because they overbooked themselves and the price they quoted me ($550) was now about $625. This is a major surgery for a female dog and I called almost a month in advance to make sure I had a secure date, time, and knowledge of cost. And the FRONT DESK overbooked the surgeon so they had to bump ppl off. I'm sorry but if your front desk can't handle their job they shouldn't have it! This lead me to questioning this vet and ultimately deciding to go to a new vet whom I am BEYOND THRILLED WITH! If you need a low cost vet you could go here as the exams are $45ish but you'll end up walking out with a $200-$300 bill on the LOW end. It's not worth it! I was really excited to go to a Vet in walking distance from my apartment, but honestly this is not worth it. I really don't trust Dr Tadros. It seems like he is keeping his eyes on the money, and not telling you the truth. General fees are low, but they definitely tried to over sell me on things that were definitely not necessary for my dog. I ended up going back to my old vet, which was further away. I'd rather pay more for a the doctor's visit fee not to be pressured into paying for things my dog doesn't really need. Also: their vaccines are only good for very short periods of times, like 6 months or 1 year. No one told me this after I paid. Why would you openly choose to vaccinate your dog for rabies every year when 3 year vaccines are common? Finally, the don't sell the specific heartworm medicine I like for my dog. I choose to go through Chewy to order it. I would love to support a local business instead of Chewy... but they just don't carry it. This hasn't been an issue until recently when they put me through a wild goose chase just to get the Chewy order approved. Every time I called they would tell me something different. Well explain on everything that he is doing from check up to shots. Organized and clean place that good for treatment. No emergency service here for now they mostly work by appointment, but I don't think they would return any body back as long as they are open for the day. Keep in mind they close @7pm so there for. O Emergancy service over the night. If you are looking for service just call them a head and make appointment this way you don't wait much. No appointment no problem they would still have you but you have to wait for the people who has appointment. I was excited that a vet opened in Sunnyside. No more 7 train for vet visits. And so Dr. Tadros was our vet for a year. But, no more. There have been a number of problems. Critically, he did not know the difference between prednisone and prednisolone. Prescribed the former, when the latter is the standard of care. Second (and if you are a client, you already know this), he can be dismissive and borderline rude. He dislikes if you have done any research or have gotten other opinions. He often walked out of the room without a word. Third, he seems particularly troubled by women. I am a man, but I have seen it multiple times that he is especially dismissive of women, especially if they are emotionally struggling with health decisions about pets. Fourth, his office is difficult about transferring records. They don't, and then they are incomplete, or they say they don't know how. (So much so that the office worker took the records home for us, scanned them HIMSELF and emailed them to us from his HOME email.) Fifth, Tadros is suspicious of other vets (or hospitals), such that he would not sell us an antiemetic (for our chronically sick pet) without a visit. He did not trust the animal hospital's advice. This meant that I had to delay 12 hours with a sick pet vomiting and terrified until I could get back to the animal hospital to pay for triple-priced medicine bc he wouldn't sell it and couldn't do the appt until next day. Sixth, he is super suspicious of Chewy or other online retailers and will try to dissuade you from saving money that way. On the other hand, Tadros was willing to squeeze me in multiple times. And he did not push unnecessary procedures or tests. (Not sure if this is good or bad, but his ethos is "let's not sink money into a potentially sick pet.") Overall, would he be good as a "check-up vet"? I guess. But if I had *any* issue with my pet, I'd head over to LIC or Astoria instead. read more

I have taken my puppy to this clinic since I adopted him in November 2019. Late February I went in to get a certificate that allows me to travel with my pup internationally. I was charged a total of $145 for a piece of paper that showed he was up to date with vaccines and the vets stamp and signature. The woman that works there told me I needed to go to JFK airport prior to travel to visit the office of U.S. Department of Agriculture - Animal Plant and Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) to get another required stamp/state validation for my pet to travel or send the paperwork to this office in Albany to be stamped and mailed back to me. After calling the office of U.S. Department of Agriculture - Animal Plant and Health Inspection Service to make an appointment to get the document stamped they informed me that they no longer see the public, they also informed me the vets office is supposed to either send it over to them electronically and it would generally be ready by the next business day, the other option the vets office had was to send it to Albany via mail to be stamped and returned. This is something the vets office had to do, not give me instructions so I could do it. After learning this I called the vets office and informed them of the process and they refused to rectify the issue. The owner/ vet is super old school and refuses to do anything online but is happy to charge customers for a worthless piece of paper. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND AVOID THIS PLACE AS THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR PET. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS HOW MUCH MONEY THEY CAN GET FROM YOU. read more

This review is regarding the front desk. I wish the vets in general as well as human physicians, would pay more attention to how the front desk is handling YOUR patients/business. There's no structure in the billing end of things and making decisions medically to manipulate the billing. Case in point, I called several days before coming in for a HEART WORM test so I could get a prescription. On the phone the woman quoted me $45.00. No doc visit just a quick blood sample for instant results. So you can imagine my surprise when the young man working at the desk that day handed me a bill for $75. I brought it to his attention that I was quoted much cheaper and he he said, nope that's the cost. So I reviewed the bill and the test was not only heart worm, but also EHRLICHIA, LYME and ANAPLASMOSIS. Everything I did not ask for, nor did they. Our little man had a left leg limp and Dr. Gene immediately spotted his paws had redness and irritation. We brought our Welsh Corgi, Roxy here last Monday after we adopted her from Florida. We just wanted a check up and she needed 2 vaccinations to be a real NYC doggie! I was very impressed with how professional the vet tech staff were. They couldn't have been more helpful, gentle and loving to Roxy. I also enjoyed the Vet himself, he was very nice and gentle with our baby. We will be coming back for ALL of Roxy's needs from now on. PLEASE READ. THIS PLACE WILL MAKE UP RANDOM "FEES" AND SLAP IT ON YOUR REVISED BILL IF YOU DON'T BUY EVERYTHING THEY PRESCRIBE ON YOUR VISIT . Tbh, I already read the reviews before going but I was desperate because my dog's nail broke and was bleeding and I didn't know what to do and everywhere else was closed since it was already 5:30pm. They took him in and bandaged him. When I got the bill it was: $65 for "bandage application and wound cleaning" (mind you, Dr. Tadros spent less than 10 minutes total with my dog), $25 for "bandage materials" (yes, that's a separate fee from the bandage application), $45 for exam, and the rest is the drugs. He prescribed an ointment, 30 days (?!) of anti-inflammatories and 20 days (!?) of antibiotics. I asked if I could get a script for the prescriptions so I can buy the 3 drugs elsewhere because I was clearly getting overcharged with a bunch of bs fees here ($25 for bandage materials? come on). The doctor had already went home so the tech called him. After a long phone call, the tech came back, did a bunch of paperwork behind the counter, I heard him whisper to the receptionist "he wants to add the injections" . After a while, the tech gave me a revised bill. SOMEHOW MY BILL BECAME $345 INSTEAD OF $235? WHY DOES IT COST MORE NOW AFTER I TOLD THEM I DON'T WANT THE 3 DRUGS? I looked at the bill. They're now charging me $150 for "emergency vet visit" for calling in an appointment an hour before coming in. They're also now charging an antibiotic injection $45 and anti-inflammatory injection $35. Why weren't these three charges there before and why are they only applied now that I said I don't want to purchase the drugs from them? It's clear what they're doing. I no longer wanted to pay for the drugs so they looked for other ways to charge me. Revising the bill and adding $150 for "emergency vet visit" and "injections"? I don't even know if these injections were done because the vet took him into the room. Even if he did inject my dog, I never even approved of these injections before he did them! BE CAREFUL IF YOU ARE DESPERATE LIKE I WAS because they will make up whatever bs "fee" they want. read more

Misled us after bad operation. I would strongly caution residents of Sunnyside against taking their pets to Skillman Animal Clinic for any operations or procedures. We took our dog in about 1.5 years ago for a routine spay. Unfortunately, not all the tissue was removed, and our dog went into heat again 6 months later. We returned to Skillman with our pet to figure out what was happening. The vet told us that it was an infection. We were sold a useless topical spray and billed in full. There was no acknowledgement or warnings about the possibility of remnant tissue, which can cause severe complications in a dog. We understand that surgery always has a risk. However, SAC took no responsibility for anything related to their work, and completely sent us in the wrong direction with our pets health (no ultrasound, xrays or further exam). Fortunately, we had another vet able to confirm the problem and perform immediate surgery to help our dog. Avoid getting any procedures done at this clinic. read more

Our cat was never spayed and was charged for it! Our cat continued to be in heat. When we called, doc said hormones can stay in bloodstream for a year. After a year, we took her to different vet. Poor cat still had her ovaries and had developed cysts on them. New Vet told us that hormones do not take a year to leave bloodstream. He told us that in his 30 yrs of practice, he had never seen such incompetency. We will see Skillman Animal Clinic in small claims court. read more

Tl;dr: This place is great! I live in LIC and there are tons of vets there but I decided to go to sunny side because this vet is great and helped my sick puppy get better!!! I actually went to different vet in LIC at first out of convenience but he wasn't thorough with my puppy at all! My puppy was sick and he just said it was stressed out so it's normal. We believed him. Anyways we brought our puppy to a pet store in sunny side (awesome place!) and the pet store owner said whatever that's happening to my puppy is NOT normal and actually walked me to the skillman animal clinic where I met dr. Tadross and crew! They fixed my little puppy up and kept doing thorough checks and made sure my puppy got better!! We basically went back to this vet time and time again no matter what, and time and time again they keep finding out ways to make my little baby all better again! Dr. tadross is knowledgeable and he cares about the animals - he does an efficient fantastic job on the animals so I am happy with him. Michael is great as well! Actually everyone there is great! Everytime we ask a stupid question they always answer! I trust these guys with my furbaby and am thankful they care enough to help! read more

The Skillman Animal Clinic opened recently, and we decided to give it a try as we have only had our puppy for 2 months, and the first place we brought him to was double the price. We got dooped, we know it. Skillman Animal Clinic is clean, and the staff are friendly. I've been there twice, once for a wellness visit and once to pick up some Nexgard. I had to wait in the lobby for a little before someone came out, as they must only have the doctor and 1 or 2 staff. I actually missed the wellness appt. but my boyfriend said the doctor was knowledgeable, friendly, and was good handling our lil pup with his shots. Just an importantly, they are fair on pricing. I feel very comfortable with their pricing and with their care for our dog. We will be bringing our cat here next time for her next annual. read more

Thought I was loosing Sharpie (my precious Husky). Suddenly, Sharpie was showing alarming symptoms: vomittin blood,dierha He was also pale and lethargic. It was the scariest experience in my life. I rushed him to Skillman Animal Clinic where he and I got the staff attention from the first few minutes. Staff was so nice and accomodating. They were super organized and friendly. Dr. Tadros' examination was thorough. Dr. Tadros was very compassionate and understanding. The next day, my Sharpie started gradually to get back to his normal self. It's so great to have this place in the neighborhood! I have two cats and moved to Sunnyside three years ago. Both of my cats have health problems (one has a lot of problems related to allergies and the other is diabetic). When I heard that Steinway Animal Hospital would be opening a location around the corner from me, I started taking the diabetic cat there, hoping that I could get him transferred to the closer location. The prices for his insulin were about half of what I was paying before (!!!), and the care was good. So when Skillman Animal Clinic opened up, I made an appointment for a wellness check up with the other cat too. The staff were so kind and patient with me as I talked through my struggles over the past few years with battling my cat's allergies and related problems. They never belittled me for the things I hadn't been able to handle on my own (which has happened to me in the past at other vets). Later, when she got an infection, they were able to squeeze me in on short notice, run some tests quickly, and then offered to have her rechecked in a couple days at no cost. They also comped me a few items that they wanted me to try out with her, and reran her x-ray for free as well, just to put my mind at ease after an extremely stressful few days of worrying about her. I really can't explain how much of a relief it is to finally have found our "forever" vet. All he does is up charge and get angry and loses his temper When you are unwilling to pay for jacked up prices on antibiotic shots. I brought my frenchie here 3 times, with the same ongoing condition. He receives the same treatment Every time so Sometimes I have most of his meds. When I didn't need new prescriptions of certain meds he tried selling me an even more expensive treatment. When I refused he lost his temper and stormed out of the room. He then proceeded to give him only one of his two regular shots and stormed out of the room again. Dangerously incompetent and uninformed. We thought this would be an OK local clinic for the basics for our dog, (we go to the AMC for big stuff), and we had a few visits that were fine. A bit expensive but convenient and the staff are lovely and smart. However the main vet is frighteningly uninformed. Our pup has a slight skip in her gait that he *insisted* was a luxating patella (slipping kneecap) and told us we needed expensive surgery to fix it. We went to the AMC for a second opinion and the orthopedic vet there (a specialist and one of the best in the country) said her patellas were as sturdy as he's ever seen. He really questioned why anyone would insist they were luxating... So that was strike one. Our dog is also very nervous, especially in certain situations. I tried the herbal options and none worked so in conversation with our trainer I did some research on an increasingly common anti-anxiety medication, clonidine, that would help her get through difficult moments and would help me work on positive reinforcement, (it does and I'm so happy I've found it). So I asked the vet if we could try it. He had *never even heard of it* so went out back to Google it and then came back five minutes later with all of these reasons why I shouldn't use it to scare me, while also trying to sell me the useless and expensive herbals he stocks behind the counter. I felt really bullied but I put my foot down and he ordered it for us. However, obviously he didn't *really* care about safety of our dog or he would have made sure to order the *correct dosage* for a dog of our size. Instead, he ordered pills that were TWICE the strength that's safe for our dog and just handed them over to me when I went to pick them up. Fortunately, I knew to adjust her dosage. (So warning to owners out there, make sure you check things like safe dosages if you're using this clinic, the vets don't seem to be.) I don't mind vets/doctors not having all the answers, but the least they can do when something new is presented to them is try to be attentive and at least safe about dealing with it. Not bullying, not dismissive, and not totally and dangerously incompetent. I won't ever be back here again, even for the small stuff. I just can't trust the standard of care. read more

I am writing a review based on my experienced 2 years ago. I was able to grief and Process my experience and here I am writing my review. I had a huge dog who was a Rottweiler and Great Dane. She was 10 years old when her health started to decline and discovered she had bladder cancer. I took her to Skillman animal clinic and I was judged and profiled. Not realizing until later, I was told that my dog needed to take these supplements, and several meds and several bags of IV for my dog to bring home. after getting home, I was researching these meds and supplements and they were nothing for a dog dying with bladder cancer. They would only let me purchase vitamins for my dog who was In pain and my bills would be like 500-600 per visit. My dog cried every time she goes to the bathroom. Mind you, I am a person of color with tattoos.my dog was in serious pain. Bleeding and crying while peeing. I have never done drugs in my life and I was definitely over charged when all I wanted was my dog to get relief so she can rest. It wasn't until I decided to show up with my 2 white friends when their energy finally changed over my situation with my dog. They were more compassionate and unfortunately, I had to put her to sleep and to this day- I'm traumatized with going to that vet. Just leaves me a bad taste in my mouth every time I pass by that place. It's definitely sketchy. read more

My dog was throwing up out of no where so I decided to bring him here since it was closer than his regular vet. I called at 9:00am and they told me to come at 12:00pm. I got there 5 minutes early to fill out any necessary paperwork. At 12:55pm I walked out! Almost an hour went by and no one said a word to me. So inconsiderate of peoples time. One guy was sitting there for over 30 minutes waiting for medicine for his dog after his appointment finished. They didn't even notice I left, plus they weren't even that busy. Why schedule an appointment that you're incapable of fulfilling. Total waste of time. I will never come back here again. Having a sick pet is super stressful, but I did feel at ease at Skillman Animal Clinic. Dr. Tadros made me feel like I was doing everything possible for my cat - and gave me his real and honest take about what to do in a hard situation. His compassionate bedside manner towards my cat - also extended to me, which I will never forget. I also felt that the pricing was fair and they worked with me so I could afford costly medicine and diagnostic procedures. We called this morning for an emergency appointment, he said to come in, we took a taxi and they had no record of us talking when we arrived. Thankfully they could fit us in, but later a customer came in to pick up supplements and said they spoke to the tech this morning, and there was no record of their convo. This establishment is very clean, the techs are very friendly and efficient. My dog, Goldfish had diarrhea and was throwing up the night before and I was very worried about him. I brought him in to see Dr.Tadros and he was very thorough with the diagnostics and treatment plan. Three days into the treatment, all of Goldfish's problems were gone and I couldn't be happier with this Vet. I saw some people concerned about prices when I looked at the reviews before coming, but considering the work that was done on him it was much cheaper than other Vets I went to in the area and in Astoria. It feels like other places I've been to usually just offer the minimum and try to get me out of the door. If you want your pet to be CURED instead of having to come to the Vet 4-5 times this is the place for you. read more

I could not be happier with the treatment my little man received. My older male kitty was losing weight and I knew something was very wrong. We brought him to Skillman Animal Clinic where he was diagnosed with feline diabetes. From the minute we brought him he received the best care, I was away, and a friend brought him in for me, and the doctors called me, and kept me in the loop the whole time. The pricing is fair, I never felt ripped off as I have at most other vets. after a very dissapointing experience on greenpoint avenue due to both negligent medical care and awful customer service, it was refreshing to visit a vet's office where the entire staff genuinely cares about the wellness of your animal and treats you with courteous professionalism. sadly, my cat's illness was very advanced, but my expectations were managed with kindness, she was given the best possible treatment for the circumstance, and the actual bill for my first visit was LESS than the estimate. when the inevitable happened and it was time to say goodbye, the staff showed me immense, heartfelt compassion, for which i'm very grateful. read more
