Ms. Marta was recommended by my boss/friend who's been going to her for many years. The thing I like the most about facials is a good extraction and I've been unsuccessful finding a skincare specialist around the bay who can do a good job at it. SO GLAD I found Ms. Marta. She does excellent extractions! She takes her time to get to know you, your habits (not just skincare habits) on the initial consult as she takes a wholistic approach in making your skin better. I appreciated the time she took to explain how our biggest organ works and have started making small changes from the stuff I learned. She has an open, easygoing and warm nature...much like talking to your mom. The place felt serene and was sparkling clean. She has in-depth Covid protocols in place (you read them on her website) to make sure everyone's safe. My face felt and looked plumped up and healthy and clear after the initial session and have already booked the next one. She has quite the following and her calendar is pretty busy so make sure to book in advance so you don't have to worry about making last minute appointments. I've also started using some of her products such as the facial cleanser, salicylic acid, glycolic gel, balancing cream, SPF cream, sulfur mask and pumice scrub which appears to be a miracle product (partnered with the glycolic gel) after using it on the patches of bumps on my arms. Two years later, and Marta is still my epidermal savior. She has such a kind, generous spirit and makes me feel so completely taken care of during every visit. I can't imagine going to anyone else for my facial well-being. I still call her up in a panic from time to time, and she always gets me in ASAP to remedy whatever frightening disaster has manifest itself. Marta is a master extractor, so don't even think about picking at home! She has even called me days afterward to check on the healing process, which is so unnecessarily sweet. Plus, she always sends me away with samples, without me even asking. The woman just loves to give. I had my first facial with Marta a couple weeks ago (going for a preventative approach vs. the reactive emergency visits), and it was amazing! Super relaxing under the heated blanket, and my skin was absolutely flawless, without a bump to be found, for two whole weeks afterwards. I found Marta on yelp, in a desperate panick over a (ewwe) giant blackhead that I couldn't reach. The good news is, she really is everything everyone says. Gentle, soothing, kind. Massages that I'd like to have continue forever... Oh yes, they're that good. I have always paid too much and gotten too little results with other places, so I just assumed thats how skincare goes. Marta got right down to work "extracting." Marta is a gem! I have seen her for approximately 8 years to maintain my skin. I met her at another clinic through a friend's referral. Several of my college friends have been her loyal clients. When I lived in the peninsula and in Union City, I would drive all the way just to have an appointment with her. I recently referred Marta to my boyfriend because he started breaking out after he started bikram yoga. His skin is recovering well through her help, guidance and products. The price is worth is because my skin hasn't been this good when I used over-the-counter products and Pro-Active. I for facials every 2-3 months and I use the balancing facial cleanser for combo skin, salicylic acid, under-eye gel, sunscreen gel, press powder, benzoil perozide with sulfer on a daily basis. My healthy skin is well worth the money and the regime. If you have acne-prone skin, and nothing works for you, call Marta and she'll help you overcome this problem. p.s. Marta is absolutely wonderful! I developed a bad case of painful acne when I moved to the East Bay almost three years ago. Through some research and the recommendation of a friend I found Marta. Our first visit was a free consultation where she explained the potential causes, types, and treatments for acne. She was welcoming, kind, and knowledgeable. I booked the appointment for my first facial and I have been a loyal customer ever since. I will agree with some of the other reviews; this is not a "spa-like" facial. It is a more medical grade, treatment facial- and the results are amazing!!! Within just a few months of regular facials with Marta and using some of the products she recommended, my skin was clear and on the path to healing. I continue to get regular facials every 6 weeks or so and love what Marta has done for the health of my skin. In addition, Marta as a person, is lovely! She is caring, understanding and flexible. Many times I have called her for a last minute request to stop by for products or have her do a "quick pick" if I get a particularly bad zit (which thanks to Marta is very very rare now) and she does whatever she can. She gave me a refreshing facial and did some extractions (painful but necessary). All for $55, which is great because some facials are outrageously expensive and as a result I could not go and I should be going on a regular basis. If your skin needs help, go see Marta! I struggled with acne for years and the only thing dermatologists ever did was push more and more antibiotics on me. (yuk.) I found Marta at another clinic, and followed her to Layafette because no one at the other place was as good. She took my current regimen (prescribed by my PCP) and really transformed my skin and routine. I've had her facials, and although a little painful, the results are worth it! I first met Marta about 15 years ago when she was practicing at another clinic, and Marta has been my preferred esthetician ever since. I figure it would be more expensive to see a dermatologist on a regular basis, since my (inadequate) HMO would not provide this service to a 50+ woman with acne.
