I wrote a review in June of 2014 about SkinCare Physicians (partially reprinted below) and thought I would follow up with a review of a procedure I had done on March 27, 2015 which was a Fractional ablative CO2 laser resurfacing. I wrote this information in my previous review, but offer it here again to bring everyone up to speed: I've been researching skin specialists for possible skin rejuvenation treatments. I strongly believe it's extremely important to make sure to go to a high quality provider and sometimes that means paying a higher price. I have received filler procedures in another state and have had good and horrible results--all by the same physician. I am now considering something that is actually going to resurface my skin and encourage collagen growth. "Oops" is not an option. I asked some trusted friends and my medical advisers for references and continually heard the same name, Dr. Dover of SkinCare Physicians. Thus, I made my consultation appointment in March, 2014. I was so comfortable at the conclusion of my consultation, I decided to have a filler treatment that same day and am very pleased with the results. Yes, the individual cost for each type of vial is more expensive than other places, but Dr. Dover is so talented in placement, he is able to achieve exceptional results with less product. So in the end, the cost equals out. I felt I was in very good hands during the entire process. He's a great communicator and maintains a high standard of professionalism. His Assistant and staff were equally as good in all that they did. Honestly, I will definitely return and highly recommend Dr. Dover and his entire staff. **************************** July, 2015 update: Dr. Dover and his staff made sure I understood the extent of this procedure and what I should expect afterward, which helped me fully prepare for both the procedure and the following 12 days of down time. I also did a "Google" search for the procedure and found one woman brave enough to show pictures of her face following the procedure. She gave a great tip, which I will pass on to you all: Before having the procedure, go to a place like Sephora and purchase both the Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation and Pressed Mineral Foundation. I found this make-up to be safe to use on my "new" skin and it covers the red look so I was able to go to meetings, etc., within 12 days of having the procedure. I was, and continue to be so satisfied with their products, I intend to write a recommendation on their website too. I honestly wish I had the courage to show you some before and after shots, but only my husband and one extremely close friend knows I had anything done. Everyone else simply keeps saying how good I look. And the truth be told, I really do look good, especially for 66 years old! So much so that I've been told several times since having the procedure just how beautiful I am--by both men and women who were complete strangers! I can't remember that ever happening before in my entire life. In fact, I found it so different that I've tried to figure out why and have come down to these two things. First, Dr. Dover is a master of combining just enough fillers and Botox to decrease my wrinkles but I still look natural. The wrinkles around my eyes, on my eyelids and most of them around my lips are gone. Some remain, but to quote Dr. Dover, "It would look odd if you had no wrinkles at all." He's right! Second, it's my eyes. I believe a person's life spark illuminates their eyes. Although I still feel energetic and alive, I've honestly noticed in the past couple of years that the spark in my eyes has diminished. Well, now it's back! I'm even comfortable walking around the house without eye make-up of any kind! Obviously, I am very satisfied and pleased with the results of procedure and Dr. Dover. I am also so very thankful to have been in the hands of such an amazingly talented professional. As I said in my previous review, this is your face. Oops is NOT an option. I would highly recommend looking into having this procedure (obviously I think it should be with Dr. Dover) before having an eye lift because I believe the results to be more natural. I sustained a facial scar above my upper lip well over a year ago that healed widened, indented, hairless, and, well, just not good. I live on the East Coast, and presumed that plastic surgeons/dermatologists in LA were "better." After all, that's where all the big movie stars go, right? But when I contacted these doctors out in LA, they all asked me why I wanted to travel so far, as there are plenty of great plastic surgeons/dermatologists in Boston and New York. I told them I was considering laser treatments. NUMEROUS plastic surgeons and dermatologists all over the country (after seeing my post on RealSelf seeking advice) informed me that I had a world-renowned laser treatment center for scars right in my backyard in Massachusetts, that being SkinCare Physicians in Chestnut Hill. The name "Dr. Kaminer" came up CONSTANTLY from all of these other doctors as being highly-respected in the industry and on the cutting edge of laser technology. So I contacted SkinCare Physicians and made an appointment for a consult with Dr. Kaminer. He was very professional and knowledgeable, and recommended 3-8 sessions of Fraxel Restore for my scar. I ended up doing two, but, because the scar was in the mustache area, I stopped the treatments on my own, as I decided I really wanted to get mustache hair back in the scar area. Dr. Kaminer informed me that the only way that might work is to have the scar excised and made more narrow, as facial hair transplants might not take very well in my widened scar tissue (he could have just taken my money and done the hair transplant procedure like I suggested, as he does do hair transplants, but he said it was in my best interest not to do that, as it wouldn't look right. He stuck to his guns even when I insisted that he try, as he wanted to protect me, a layman, from making a huge cosmetic mistake). He discussed the risks and possible benefits of scar excision and re-closure and set me up with Dr. Thomas Rohrer, also of SkinCare Physicians, to discus an excision. Dr. Rohrer thought he could help me, and showed me numerous photos of similar successful upper lip scar revisions he had done in the past. I've yet to make a decision as to whether to excise the scar or not, as Dr.'s Kaminer and Rohrer were very up-front about the unpredictability of any scar treatment or revision, and above the mouth is tricky due to all of the lip movement and tension. It being on my face, it is very important to me to weigh the risk/benefit ratio carefully. But I will say that, over the course of time I have been going back and forth on my decision, Dr. Kaminer has personally returned all of my phone calls NUMEROUS times to help me make the best decision for myself. And not just one-minute obligatory callbacks. Frank, lengthy discussions. He's taken the time to treat me not just like a number, but as a person. Again, I still don't know what course of action I will take, but will update this site when I decide. But I am thankful that I found SkinCare Physicians, and can see now why doctors three thousand miles away steered me in their direction. I know this review may seem overly-gushing, perhaps even fake or staged, but I swear it has been my experience. The scar was and is quite distressing to me, and I want others in similar situations to know there is highly-qualified help out there with Dr.'s Kaminer, Rohrer, and the staff at SkinCare Physicians. I hope a year from today I can post that my scar, while it can never be fully removed, is much-improved. In my youth, I slathered myself in baby oil and baked in the sun. If there were any advertisements extolling the benefits of sunscreen, I certainly missed them. Subsequently, in my 50's, my face was worn out looking with marked wrinkling. In choosing a dermatologist, I selected a physician based on their knowledge and skill. I can't say enough good things about my experiences with Dr. Karen Kim. She discussed options available to me, not only at her office, but also with doctors at other practices. She made me aware of all that was available to improve the areas that I was concerned about. I never felt pressured to agree to any procedures performed by her. I never felt rushed, all of my questions were answered and all of my fears and concerns were addressed. As an RN, I truly felt that I gave my informed consent to fraxel laser treatments after being provided with all of the necessary information. What I appreciate the most about Dr. Kim was that she stressed the importance of having realistic expectations. She made no implausible promises. I did not peruse "too good to be true" before and after photos. I think that some people who undergo cosmetic procedures are disappointed because they have unreasonable views about possible results or because they do not fully listen to the information provided them by their doctor. Before each treatment, Dr. Kim and I discussed my feelings about the results at that point. She asked what was most bothersome to me , and addressed ways in which to tweak the treatments to particularly improve those areas. After three treatments, I am seeing very positive results. I recently attended a work party and consistently was told that I looked so well rested, so healthy, and so much younger. It was great! It is very uplifting and empowering to feel good about your appearance. I have Dr. Kim to thank for this! I would highly recommend this kind, caring, and experienced professional to anyone seeking a remarkable dermatologist. read more

I've had the opportunity to see several of the physicians here, and have been very pleased with both the medical practice and the cosmetic practice! I had a suspicious mole on my hand that began changing. Although routine skin checks can take a while to get scheduled, I was able to get an appointment swiftly because of my concern with this spot. It was removed after a careful examination and thorough explanation. Fortunately, it ended up being completely benign, and I was fully reassured. It felt very comforting to have been taken so seriously and cared for so thoroughly. The wonderful doctor who removed my mole is no longer with the practice (he moved to Chicago, darn it!), but I've had the chance to meet several of the other dermatologists, and they are equally as caring and thorough. Sometimes there is a wait in the waiting room, but that is something I've come to expect at many doctor's offices. They have up to date magazines (People magazine! My guilty pleasure!) and computer access. On the other hand, I've arrived early on occasion and have been brought in for my appointment early! I also once arrived on the wrong day, and they bent over backwards to fit me in to save me from having to make another trip in. I've also seen Dr. Rohrer and Dr Arndt for some cosmetic issues, and I can say that if I have a smooth, unworried brow this hectic Christmas season, it is only because of their expert handiwork! A final note: they treat children! My son was treated in their offices for a skin condition, and the staff was so sweet and caring for him! It's not specifically a pediatric practice, but I would definitely recommend them to take care of children with skin problems. read more

Approximately seven or eight years ago, Dr. Rohrer at Skin Care Physicians referred me to their aestheticians across the hall for some treatments for Melasma. I started a series of sessions with an aesthetician named Eileen Joyce. Who would have thought almost eight years later I am still seeing her for other treatments. A couple of years ago when I decided to seek out some anti-aging treatments, I remembered the wonderful experience I had with Eileen a few years prior. I was surprised to find when I called Skin Care Physicians that Eileen was still there since people tend to change jobs more frequently these days. I have been going to Eileen for chemical peels for a couple of years now. She is absolutely wonderful and I would highly recommend her!! She always greets me at the door with a smile and is always very personable. She appears to truly love her job and is always in a pleasant mood. When it is time for my session, she always asks if I'm comfortable, warm, cold, want a blanket etc. Once she begins the chemical peel, she is very aware of my comfort level. I have extremely sensitive skin and if I ever feel any stinging or any discomfort, she immediately decreases the level of intensity. Once the session is over, if there are any products that I inquire about she is always very open to offering me a sample to ensure I like the product before I spend the money to purchase it. If you are interested in trying Eileen, I'm positive you won't be disappointed. She is a breath of fresh air!! read more

Dr. Kim is awesome. Let's just do it in list form: A) She is always smiling, even on the nastiest snowstorm days. B) She REMEMBERS ME. I can't imagine how many patients she sees in a day, let alone a month, and even months apart she remembers me and my name. Maybe she cheats before seeing me by peeking at my file, but it works. C) She's a great dermatologist. She expertly reviews any conditions or concerns I've ever had quickly and thoroughly. D) She doesn't make me feel like an idiot, especially when I have some mildly embarrassing skin conditions. You know how when you go to the dentist they always seem to shame you for not flossing enough, even if you floss? Yeah, she's exactly NOT that. E) She is very accommodating. On two occasions when my availability was limited, she overbooked herself just so I could get an appointment. Which was awesome. F) (This goes for the whole practice) She takes her appointments ON TIME. I can't stand going to the dr. and waiting past my appointment time. Overall, I highly recommend this practice and -- specifically -- Dr. Kim. (PS: the reason I went to her was because another "highly respected" dermatologist had misdiagnosed me and my wife. When I told this to Dr. Kim, she didn't malign him or even care. She did her thing and has been treating me ever since.) read more

The following is a letter I wrote to the Drs. and Staff that attended to me last month for a laser resurfacing. Dear Dr.Dover, Dr. Kingsley, Lauren,Aurry, Colleen Michael and all others who were in any way participants in my procedure. I can't thank you enough for giving me a new lease on my face. I feel so good and have recently restored all the mirrors I had put away. The care I received was so meaningful and the results were so awesome. I also do appreciate what you did to make it all so positive and so possible. All your smiles on your beautiful faces and of course handsome ones as well attest to the happiness you bring to your patients. The only down part is that am going to have to hire body guards to keep the throngs away from this new woman I am dragging around. I have lots of "musical gigs" (exposure to a lot of people) coming up and hope to be a good advertisement for your incredible professions. I will see you all again in five weeks. I was in two weeks ago for a follow up visit. This was the third time I was checked in by the same front desk associate, mind you I have only been coming to this practice for a little over a year. Her name is Brandi and she is very friendly and boy does she pay attention to detail! Upon checking in for my appointment to see Katie Brodt she greeted me as if she knew me personally and remembered who I was! I was very impressed because of all the patients she must check in (I have seen how full this practice' waiting room can get) she remembered who I was. I shared with Brandi that no one at any other doctors office has remembered who I was. Most places you go to (especially these days) the person at the desk of any business isn't the most welcoming face of the business or they try to rush you out of their presence. This was certainly not the experience I got from Skincare Physicians. The front desk staff in my opinion are one of the very most important parts of a business. First impressions are so important for any business and this practice has some great employees! Thank you Brandi for treating me more than "just a patient", nothing feels better than having a great experience at a doctors office from start to finish. read more

I can say how much I love my new found doctor, Dr. Karen Kim is the best. I have been through a number of dermatologists and groups and prescription after prescription for years with minimal results or just constant short term results(I was always told do this we will see you in 3 months... return in 3 months and I didn't even see the same MD, another dx and yet get another Rx, try this see you in 3 months, for years). Not at SCP, Dr. Kim made a diagnosis (mind you different from the previous), she took the time to listen to me, asked about my lifestyle, what was happening in my life, gave me her recommendations, what she thought would work best and ask me "what I thought". Not once have I had a dermatologist include me in on my treatment. The caring and compassion for the doctors and staff at SCP goes above and beyond any I have encountered, they listen to you, understand what you want to achieve and provide the treatment that works for you. I must say my latest treatment plan has changed my life considerably, my husband and family, friends have all told me what a difference they can see in my skin and whatever I am doing I should keep it up. What I will do is stay with my MD and SCP!!!!!! read more

At the advice of my PCP, I have had a number of appointments here. While my PCP says they are the best not only here, but in the nation, I have concluded that this is a high-margin profitable "mill" that is comprised of a lot of talented, well-credentialed physicians who have decided to maximize their incomes at the expense of good care. Examinations are cursory, short, and far from thorough. "Interns" are constantly brought in (I don't know the financial arrangement, but it appears this is their own launching point for their careers), and the prices are very high. I had a dermatology consult and the physician didn't even examine my skin. If you have concerns about skin cancer, trust me, this is not the place that would ever catch it. They are aggressive on promoting Botox (and charge a fortune). I had a procedure done that did not turn out well, and despite repeated visits (sometimes billed for), I've had no satisfactory answers or solutions. The walls are adorned with self-serving accolades from Boston Magazine, etc. If you want to be surrounded by ego-maniacs, this is your place. If you want truly personal, attentive care, I suggest you look elsewhere. read more

I have seen several of the physicians here, both for esthetic and medical reasons. Every type of experience has been a positive one! I felt in great hands as the docs have examined my skin for medical issues, and the treatment combined with thoughtful discussion left me feeling like a partner in caring for my condition (which swiftly resolved!). I've also seen several of the docs here for esthetic reasons- sometimes the botox crowd is the same as those who go in for medical care! Again, the doctors have taken a lot of time to determine what I want out of my treatment, and have made some great suggestions- at a number of different price points, which gave me the option to choose the best solution for me and my budget. I felt treated with respect in all visits, from the point of booking to the point of taking care of my bill (via credit card). I recommend SCP to anyone who needs dermatologic care. I feel so secure in the consistent quality of their services that I even recommended them to my boss! (He was happily quite pleased with the care they provided). One down side- it CAN take some time to get an appointment here. They are popular. read more

Dr. Kim @ Skin Care Physicians, Chestnut Hill is EXCELLENT!! I am a Registered Nurse and have never written a review before, however I feel this is well deserved. I have previous experience with injectables @ The Boston Center (Boylston St), The Adams Center (Newbury St), and a Scottsdale cosmetic dermatologist. FINALLY I HAVE FOUND A COSMETIC DERMATOLOGIST WHO KNOWS HOW TO ARTFULLY DISTRIBUTE FACIAL INJECTABLES, I.E. RYSTALINE/DYSPORT/BOTOX). Dr. Kim of Skin Care Physicians takes her time, which translates into little discomfort & even distribution of the product. The end result is amazing: forehead wrinkes: gone. sullen under-eyes, gone. Fuller cheeks. Laugh lines, gone. Fuller, even upper lip (not over done, very natural looking). I have extensive experience in receiving lip/facial injectables, and I ALWAYS HAVE bruised and and turned red/swelled. After Dr. Kim administered 2 mls of Rystaline and 1 ml of Botox, I had NO bleeding and NO bruising!!! I would like to let everyone know what great care I got by Drs. Peters and Dr. Roher. Dr. Roher is so skilled and you feel you are in good hands under his care. He's also a nice person as well as a great doctor. I'm so lucky to have Dr. Rohr as my doctor. Dr. Peters worked alongside Dr. Roher and could not have been any nicer. He was kind, gentle and would ask if 'I were comfortable' several times during my procedure. He's a great Doctor and a great human being. I'm so fortunate to know these two wonderful caring doctors. I also want to mention my wonderful doctor, Dr. Morton. If it weren't for her keen eye and thorough examination I may have been in serious trouble. Dr. Morton is one of the nicest doctors I've ever met. She's warm, friendly and leaves no stone unturned.
