Cute place and the barista was wonderful. Got a pastry that was delicious and a chai/coffee mix called the Woodsman. I am not a fan of alternative milks and can't process whole milk. Given this I cannot accurately rate the Woodsman as I got it with almond milk and wasn't a fan. My husband is also in the same boat as me with regards to milk. Please consider adding at least a 2% although skim would be amazing. If you like whole milk/alternatives please give this place a shot! read more

Pretty cool find if you are ever in the neighborhood! Mountlake Terrace is not a place I frequently visit, but I did because of the convenience with the light rail - it's about a 9-minute walk from the light rail station. The interior has a warm and cozy vibe; I also dig the lighting. There's a good amount and variety of seating. They don't have outlets on the floor at the benches in the center, but there are a few outlets on the walls, so if you need to charge your devices I recommend sitting at the chairs next to the treasure chest (where I'm writing this review lol). Space seems very dog friendly, and there are 2 tables outside where the fur baby pawrents would typically sit with their fur babies. I also saw dog treats at the cashier that dog owners are free to take. I guess if you wanted to eat them you could, but I would judge you. For my drink, I got the Woodsman - opted for iced, large size, and whole milk. The drink was very chai spice-forward, which I loved. The staff member who took my order asked for my name, and later on when I went up to inquire the WiFi password, he addressed me by name - impressive. The owner (?), Heather, also thanked me for coming here after I picked up my drink. Needless to say, super friendly people. Skog Haus is a welcome spot of warmth and friendliness in MLT. The staff make a point to know your name and you feel like a regular on your second visit. My go to is the De Skog and my husband's, the Eldr Mocha (which I always manage to sneak a sip of, so good!). Our drinks are consistent from visit to visit. The shop is warm and welcoming. There are both shared work spaces and solo places where you will almost always find folks tapping away on their laptops. Parking out front can be tight, but there is plenty of parking around back. read more

The mocha I got was decent. They use a syrup brand I haven't seen in Cali. I would say if they changed their chocolate syrup to a Housemade chocolate ganache it would enhance the chocolate flavor in the mocha, making it more prominent with the espresso. New favorite coffee spot! My husband and I had driven past this spot last weekend and after looking at the menu online, thought their speciality items looked really good. So we came here this weekend to give it a try! I wanted the Kaffe Myntha (brewed coffee, homemade mint syrup and milk) but they dont have a decaf brew unfortunately, so the cashier recommended a mint latte which is made with decaf espresso. Best latte I've had in quite awhile! I got it with oat milk and loved it. On the pricier side, but I'd pay for it again. Met one of the owners, Heather, who made our latte and she was super sweet and makes great coffee! Inside had cute seating options including a longer, family style table and other options for smaller parties. Amble free parking in the area, street parking and garage. read more

Finally had a chance to go here recently. This is a fun twist on the Seattle coffee shop. They have a very cozy spot that encourages people to sit and stay. The staff are super friendly and helpful. They where happy to discuss menu options for drinks as well as explain where all the pastries where from. I had the Eldr Mocha and it was really good. The spices they add in give it a great spin on the standard Mocha. I highly recommend stopping by for some coffee if your in the area. read more

I had an opportunity to visit Skög Haus in Mountlake Terrace (1/28/25). Their mobile cafe was in service since 2020, but since retired. Their brick and mortar opened in November 2024. It's located in an immense residential & business area east of I-5, next door to Zeeks Pizza, and proximate to the MLT light rail station. Again, another indie cafe with a vast modern, sleek interior and natural light. Seating can be had in a corner area, communal table, or along the banquette. Even the little ones can sit at a scaled down picnic bench. I had a well crafted 12oz mocha onsite. Menu showcases several innovative coffee beverages, beyond the standard espresso go tos. Their pastry case was pretty much wiped out with only a few items remaining at 12 noon. I did see some packaged shortbread by the register. Baked goods are supplied from Macrina Bakery & Cafe and The Cottage, Community Bakery. It was nice to hangout for about half an hour onsite. Folks were on their laptops, having coffee as takeout, or briefly pausing to savor a beverage while the little ones snacked on shortbread. Welcoming MLT neighborhood spot! read more

Hands down, these guys know customer service, this lovely coffee shop is spacious with plenty of tables without it getting crowded and we got lucky enough to nab a table. We were immediately greeted warmly and all our questions answered. They also have pastries from Community Bakery which is one of our favorites. We ordered the Eldr Mocha and a Latte and yes their prices are on the higher side, but if you want to chill and try something a little different then this is the place to be. I wanted to like this place so badly. I considered the few positives: + Not far the house + Found good parking place + Very close to Zeek's Pizza Wanted to give Skog Haus the benefit of the doubt but realized the pattern so after 3 meetings with personal friends or professional colleagues, I've chosen *not* to visit anymore. Why? 1. I wasn't too happy with the service. 2. The space is so small, I feel really packed into it. 3. BIG TICKET ITEM! Each time I went, I felt more and more uncomfortable because the staff behind the counter would stare at me and my party of 3-4 people. If it was only a stare, that would be one thing but the stare was compounded by a concentrated effort to "listen in." That gave me the creeps. I don't have that feeling when I go to Woods, various other (mom and pop) coffee shops. Again, I really wanted to love this place but found the place unfriendly and most of all, experienced behavior unbecoming of properly courting new customers. For example, If it's a slow time, go pick up trash, clean the bathroom; go around and ask folks if there is something you can do to add to their visit like bring them a sample sip of ______ or a tiny sample morsel of pastry. Please don't stand stare and actively "listen in." I'm saying this as honestly and respectfully as I know how. read more

I walked by and saw the line out the door and figured, either they are only the only place in town to get coffee, or MLTs best kept secret... I waited in line and when I got inside the decor was modern yet warm, with a huge table in the middle and cozy seating along the wall with smaller tables. It had the feel of an upscale coffee shop but a LOT friendlier. The vibe was very easy going. The line went surprisingly fast, especially considering the lady at the counter (Heather?) greeted almost everyone by name and took a moment to catch up with each of them while she took care of their order. I'm guessing because they are nestled underneath apartments, they must have a lot of regulars. Amazing how she remembers them all! I got my order, an Elder Mocha and some sort of pear danish, and all I could say is it was all Super YUMM! They are definitely not the only place in town, but it's easy to see why they are the BUSIEST! read more

Mistake order - cafe minta - like an elevated Americano, with a bit of milk foam and mint syrup. Definitely as described, just not to my taste Eldr mocha - a mocha, but with nutmeg. Really strong nutmeg flavor, which I loved. Cardamom bun - pretty good, a little light on the cardamom Roomy space, beautifully decorated. SKÖG Haus is the best coffee shop in the Lake Forest Park/MLT neighborhoods! (It's also a short walk from the MLT light rail station.) The staff is always so friendly and they make a point of knowing you and what you drink. Their coffee doesn't taste mass produced like other places and the signature drinks are unique and not too sweet. Our faves? Elder Mocha for rich cocoa flavor with a little kick. They also carry a nice selection of prepared pastries from Macrina and Cottage Bakery.. really lovely spot. read more

Yelp keeps asking me to review Skog but I generally avoid rating places that I'd give a 3, because "ok" can sometimes be read as a bad review even though I think it should be read as just an average place and not reflect poorly on the business at all. But, because Yelp keeps practically forcing me to review the shop because I visited it and won't remove it from my homescreen, I will give that review: The review: Go here before Starbucks, but if you're spending $4 on black coffee, go to Woods Coffee instead. (Personal preference of taste) Skog Coffee uses Bellingham Coffee Roasters beans. If you've had that before you're not missing out skipping Skog. Had they roasted their own beans and offered something unique, the price for a black coffee would be justifiable simply for the sake of trying something new. Otherwise, they're a tad overpriced for what they offer. $4 for black coffee. However, 3 stars because it's still way better than Starbucks. But if I am spending around $4 for black coffee in this area I'd rather go to Woods up the street. read more

I was honestly surprised to see that this place got anything other than five star reviews. I feel like I am particularly picky about my coffee and have had a consistently great experiences every time I come here. The space is open and mellow. The service is great. So happy that SKOG joined this little business area, a perfect stop after dropping off my son at daycare across the street. The owners are very nice and make an effort to get to know customer names and faces. I like their specialty drinks! The prices are on the high side with some drinks nearing $8 but honestly the coffee is tasty so it's worth paying for quality. I appreciate they have some gluten free pastries. I do wish they offered soy milk as it's the only alternative milk that actually has protein but I know it's less popular these days. And the $1.25 alt milk charge seems high to me. Love this place! I've been coming here for years now and the staff has always been amazing and thoughtful. I don't go out for coffee often but when I do, I go here because their drinks aren't made with super sweet syrups like most places and it makes me feel much better about treating myself.
