New Vietnamese coffee menu!
Kristene S.

This place has been one of my go-to bakeries recently! I always loved their pastries, especially their almond croissants but recently they added a Vietnamese coffee menu which is such a secret gem. Their cream puffs are also so good, I love their Pandan coconut one. Haven't tried something that I didn't like from this bakery yet! They sell out of cream puffs, especially on the weekends so plan accordingly :) friendly staff, parking in the back and a few tables in the back if you want to stay awhile!

Grand Pere Bakery is set in an especially homey, comforting setting. The interior feels like a place you can relax and chat for an entire leisurely day, nibbling on pastries and sipping on lattes. This is accentuated by the dim lighting and couches and other seating in the back. (Although, to be honest, I think the lights are a little too dim, making it quite difficult to see inside the pastry cases!) I originally visited on a weekend morning, greeted by a short line of patrons looking to order the delicious food and drinks. I bought a couple of the most scrumptious looking items and sat down to try them out. Almond Croissant ($6) - This is a double baked almond croissant, which seem to be the preferred style of almond croissant in bakeries around Seattle. I wish bakeries around here had normal almond croissants like most of the rest of the country, but I guess beggars can't be choosers. This croissant is quite long, probably 50% longer than most other almond croissants. A relatively thin bottom layer is sliced off and a thin smear of strong almond frangipane, smooth and kind of moist feeling like its been soaked in syrup, is smeared on the interior. The texture of the croissant starts with a good crisp on the exterior coating followed by a softer and flaky interior. The pastry exhibits good lamination, although there is a very large air pocket in the center. The taste starts as an exceptionally buttery taste, then transitions to slightly sweet almond. (4/5) Tasse De Creme ($5.5) - I haven't had this pastry before and it looks very different from what I get when I search online. The proprietress described this as a croissant dough filled with custard and that could not be a more apt description. The same buttery, flaky, and crisp croissant layers envelop a sweet and bouncy vanilla egg custard. On the bottom is a layer of caramelized sugar. The bottom of the croissant dough is baked until it has that very well baked taste, almost slightly bitter. The three components combine into a very tasty treat. Rich in flavor, not too sweet, delicious. (5/5) Coconut/Pandan Cream Puff ($4.25) - They fill the cream puffs fresh so there is no worry about the shell becoming soggy. This cream puff is excellent. It has an almost cookie crust like layer on top contrasting in texture to the more light and delicate choux interior. They are pretty generous with the filling, which tastes exactly as described - coconut and pandan. (5/5) Grand Pere Bakery is a very nice local neighborhood bakery. I was very impressed with the pastries I tried. This is certainly a business to support, and one that I will revisit in the future.

Family really likes this place. They have cream puffs that they fill fresh there. I got the coconut pandan one which was pretty good. For mother's Day they had a strawberry whipped cream croissant that was light and refreshing. I wish the pastries were a little more flaky and crunchy, but they were yummy. They start running out of things by the time I got there a bit before noon, so definitely come earlier

I went back here on a Wednesday morning around 9:30am to try their taste de creme (creme brulee croissant). This time, with intel from the first visit, I called ahead at 8:45am for them to save 2 of those taste de creme, and they were willing to (at that time, there was only 4 left). I showed up after, to see that they were sold out already, so it was good we called ahead to pick those up. We also got the coffee bun and 2 lattes, for a nice little pick me up breakfast before work. The taste de creme, creme brulee croissant, was really good. It reminds me of an egg tart custard, with nicely crispy croissant outside. There is a bit of caramel that further sweetened and enhanced the pastry. The coffee bun is slightly crispy outside, soft inside, not too sweet. The lattes we got were black sugar lattes (seasonal) which was fairly delicious. I only wished they had latte art for what we pay, but it was all good. It was an excellent pairing with the pastries we got. 4.5 stars but rounded up since the taste de creme was really good, prices are fair for the portions, and the pastries are really good, but be mindful that they are great if you consume immediately. Anything after an hour may be hit or miss.

I wanted to try this place for quite a while. I heard about their almond croissant and it didn't disappoint. It was pretty big portion wise and super yummy too. It went really well with their Spiced Black Sugar Latte. I also want to try their chocolate croissants and their mocha next time I visit. The staff were friendly and quick. The ambiance is very cozy and home like, they have comfy couches for seating as well. Will definitely recommend making the trip at least for the almond croissant.

Cozy shop with delicious goods and super friendly staff. The kind of place that would be dangerous if I lived closer. I am so jealous of folk that do, and make this a daily stop.

I wasn't sure about this place upon first glance. But the coconut pandan cream puff was delicious. It was filled to order and had a nice crisp top. I got a latte too. it was tasty and felt well made. I came later in the day so it appeared some of the pastry selection was sold out, I'll have to come earlier next time!

Very impressed with their "Tasse de crème", the employee explained that it's like a Danish pastry, but the filling tastes quite a bit like crème brûlée. I arrived at around 2:30pm on a Sunday afternoon and they were sold out of most items - but they still had croissants, chocolate croissants, double chocolate croissants, and blueberry danishes. I am hesitant to give them a five star review because I only tried one pastry, but it does not feel fair to give them before star dish when I enjoyed the pastry so much. I will have to come back and try other pastries! I found that service was pretty average, but the ambience was somewhere between suburban strip and rundown mobile home - I would not recommend this bakery for the vibes.

The mentioned "macchiato"

If I order a macchiato I don't expect to get a 12 oz cup half full of just straight espresso. Ambiance is overstimulating but also not stimulating enough some how. But the people were nice so there's that.

I was in the neighborhood when I spotted this lone bookmark from years ago and decided to stop in. Grand Pere Bakery specializes in French pastries and coffee. The location is interesting; it's set up in a yellow house off the main road, and there is really nothing else around it for the average person. Plenty of parking. It was near closing when I walked in so the selection was limited, but I was surprised to see a few coffee buns left in the window. They're popular in Malaysia, and a rare find in North America. They happen to be a favorite of mine, so I had to get one. Service was very friendly. For $5, the coffee bun had an enticing aroma of coffee, and a crisp brown crust. The bread was soft and buttery. It got less crisp as time went on so I'd recommend eating it as fresh as possible. My conclusion is that Grand Pere Bakery is a true hidden gem. I would return again (ideally early) for a coffee and some pastries next time!

FRESH!!! Wow!! This is a must try, first time here and I'm very impressed. You can feel and taste the love, small business they let 3 in at a time to ensure social distance. Pasties are baked daily, a few trays put out at a time. So get there early once the gone there gone til the next day ( you won't find day old here). I tried the almond croissant it was flaky on the outside with beautiful color and dusted with powdered sugar and a ton of almonds. The hubby tried the blueberry danish fresh blueberry and oh so yummy cream, pastry was soft. If you are in the are you gotta stop and check them out :)

Small bakery in a house. Small selection of well made patisserie. Highly recommend everything. Great business to support and, more importantly, DELICIOUS

Tasse de Crème
Shaida H.

A bakery located in house; plenty of parking. They have low inventory but what they make is delicious. The almond croissant and Tasse de crème were the items I ordered. The Tasse de Crème is basically the most delicious crème brûlée in a croissant. The almond croissant has so many layers and a delicious almond paste. Highly recommend.

Pretty cool find if you are ever in the neighborhood!…read more Mountlake Terrace is not a place I frequently visit, but I did because of the convenience with the light rail - it's about a 9-minute walk from the light rail station. The interior has a warm and cozy vibe; I also dig the lighting. There's a good amount and variety of seating. They don't have outlets on the floor at the benches in the center, but there are a few outlets on the walls, so if you need to charge your devices I recommend sitting at the chairs next to the treasure chest (where I'm writing this review lol). Space seems very dog friendly, and there are 2 tables outside where the fur baby pawrents would typically sit with their fur babies. I also saw dog treats at the cashier that dog owners are free to take. I guess if you wanted to eat them you could, but I would judge you. For my drink, I got the Woodsman - opted for iced, large size, and whole milk. The drink was very chai spice-forward, which I loved. The staff member who took my order asked for my name, and later on when I went up to inquire the WiFi password, he addressed me by name - impressive. The owner (?), Heather, also thanked me for coming here after I picked up my drink. Needless to say, super friendly people. I didn't get a pastry or sandwich, but that's the goal for my next visit!

In long I'm in this neighborhood regularly these days, and this might be the best of the coffee spots I've tried so far. They're right at Five Corners, and they probably crank all morning. In recent days I've certainly stolen parking from them after they close, 'cause they share the parking with two of the best restaurants in Edmonds. They're much bigger than the garden sheds you see as coffee spots sometimes. Probably room for a TV and an easy chair in there for when it's slow. They have the usual lineup of coffees, some teas, and what might be a pretty good pastry list, though I wasn't eating today. The kid working today was super warm and friendly in a pleasantly relaxed way. My Americano was ready in no time. Cost a few pennies more for 2 shots than some place, but the coffee tasted a fair bit better. Pretty chocolatey for black coffee. She had me out the door and on in my way before ya know it. Much as I like constantly trying new places, I might have to come back here--even before I run out of places to try.

Fortunately, there was no traffic so it was a 20 min drive easily. However, a lot seemed to have changed from about a year ago? We got popcorn chicken which was $9 for a very tiny plate (like the medium size sampler food container you get at food tasting events) which is a joke of a portion, and the chicken was not even good quality - heavy on the batter. Compared to pictures a year ago, where the portions looked much much larger. They are so stingy on the amount of chicken, that I thought they were giving us a sample to try before they make a real batch lmaooooo. I tried the Kocochi milk tea with creme brulee, boba, jelly, etc. Sounds good on paper, inflation I get it, was expecting $7 but it was $8, plus tax, so it is actually not that competitive of a price anymore now that I think about it. I could get a very good quality boba drink for $7.50+tax elsewhere without all the fancy toppings, but with boba included. I was pretty disappointed with the quality. The boba is so overcooked that it is mushy, and the creme brulee was not thick enough that I have to use a spoon to even be able to get any of it out (instead of being able to drink it from the other side which is what it is supposed to be). I'd avoid this place unless this is a one off but I will need to be redeemed a better experience before recommending this place. There are better options in the area
