When I called to schedule the exam they asked for my insurance, I told them I don't have eye coverage that I would just pay the full cost up front. After the exam I saw a pair of glasses with a sticker price of $150 dollars. I sat down with the secretary to purchase them, and after she filled out the form the final cost for the glasses was almost $800. I told her never mind I'd just go with the contacts which they said were $68, I said fine. Then they give me a cost for double that (two boxes) plus about $150 for the eye exam. I know contacts are cheaper online so I declined those as well, and said I'll just pay for the exam (last time I went to Walmart and got the exam and contacts for about $150). They again asked me for my insurance, I told them I don't have eye coverage and I'd just pay the total now. They ran my card for the total. Three weeks later I get a call from the office asking for my insurance. At this point I realize what type of bad business this company does. I told her "I already paid the total why would you need my insurance", and she was like a broken record "we just need your insurance to bill them it's probably covered" and I'm like "I don't owe you any money?!" She says ok and next thing I know I get a bill in the mail for almost another $150. So almost $300 just for an eye exam. (The average price for an eye exam is under $100). This is a business that preys on probably an older customer base who don't know there are much cheaper and equally good alternatives.

One member of the staff was consistently nasty and condescending. Moreover, I feel the information she gave me was often misleading and in bad faith. Southland Vision care also lost half of my test results. When I received my test results by mail, they included two copies from the same eye and none from the other. Each of the copies was individually annotated. That such an obvious error made it through analysis and mailing suggests either a puzzling level of incompetence or actual malfeasance. When I pointed out the error, the office was willing to refund the cost of the test. However, they were unwilling to refund the cost of the office visit that they had specifically scheduled to perform the test as I had "spent a lot of time in the office" getting the test (the results of which they lost).

I went for every test they offered because it's cheaper to catch something early than to walk into walls later. Exams here are priced about the same as anywhere else, but the frame selection? It's like a fashion show for your face. Paula was super helpful, and the tech, whose name I forgot, was so kind and careful you could tell he treats every lens like a baby bird. You'll pay a bit more for glasses here, but these are your eyes, not a gas station souvenir. I learned that the hard way at a discount place where my glasses looked great but reading a stop sign became a group project. If you want to actually see what you're doing in life again and not just squint hopefully, go see Dr. Farmer. Worth every penny and every awkward "one or two?" moment.

On the Avon Eye Design website it says they have been awarded the top optometry practice in Avon for 2015-2024. Their web site says this award is verified at Opencare.com. I went to Opencare.com. It looks to be a dentistry web site? .... strange! The First mistake they made was with my eye glass prescription We worked it out. Second mistake, I ordered contacts from them, I ordered a full years worth of 2 month contacts. They told me my order was in & so I went to pick it up. Later I found they only gave me "half" of my full 1 year contact order. i didn't catch their mistake until a week later. I called Avon Eye Design & they said I could come back in to get the other half of my order! (that I had already paid for) They had my full order there & No one had callex to let me know they had the rest of my order. No apology, no explanation was given. I asked! Today was strike #3! I went in to get a prescription for 1-day Acuvue Oasys contacts After 2 mistakes, I no longer order anything directly from Avon Eye Design. I now get all my prescriptions in writing & I go someplace else. I always ask for my prescriptions in writing. Often, I need to ask for it several times & then, I am told that I need to stay & wait for the dr to be available ... again ...to get my prescription in writing. Upon leaving today, I immediately took the contact prescription to COSCO, to purchase it, the COSCO sales person said the contact prescription from Avon Eye Design could not be ordered because the prescription as written was wrong. I immediately called Avon Eye Design from Cosco trting to quickly have them fix their prescription & fax it to Cosco. I put the Cosco sales lady on the phone with Avon Eye Design to explain the problem. The Avon Eye Design lady would not interrupt the Dr to fix their mistake for me quickly. She said I would have to wait for the Dr to be out of his appointments. I had waited an hour to get a Cosco sales lady! so... i drover back to Avon Design in to get a new (accurate) written contact prescription. When I got to Avon Eye Design, I was told the computers "auto settings" had made the numbers mistake ... not the Dr. Again. No apology. I won't go to Avon Eye Design again. 3 strikes .... your out!.

HOWEVER, when I went to pay my charges I was informed there would be a 2.5 surcharge for using a credit card!!!!! I cannot believe this policy. we have been told since covid to use a card to pay, and now this business CHARGES FOR THE USE OF A CREDIT CARD!!!!!! They also require test for $39.95 due to Covid. it is NOT AN OPTION!!!! I am beyond angry and although I hate to leave Dr. Knapp, I will if this continues.
