Sky Club claims to have the first salad bar in the US. We felt that MUST be worth going out of our way for. Trust me, folks. It's not. We arrived prior to our reservation, so we sat at the bar while waiting and frankly that was the best part until a bartender stuck a glass into the ice well and broke said glass, then picked some ice and presumably broken glass out. I can say that after watching Bar Rescue since season one I was at a code red upon witnessing that, but my husband that works in food/bev service who abides by the protocols for said circumstance was horrified and literally stopped getting anything that required ice after seeing they didn't empty the ice well and clean it out before replacing glassy-icy with fresh ice. Then we were taken to our table and encountered our poor waitress, Tiff. She had tables in sections so far away from us--separately partitioned sections but also a separate room. Service was horrible, but she was spread so that thin it was clearly an owner/manager problem (as the other two waitresses we saw were never in the other sections, yet she was at close to a run between the three). Sky Club could have at least had bussers clearing the courses, but instead our table was a wasteland of glasses, bowls, app plates and main course plates. And I'd be embarrassed to claim my place had the first salad bar in the US if it was a disaster of mayhem regarding both order and produce. It's only a salad bar, no soup, yet plates were around the entirety of the baby salad bar. People kept grabbing one of the myriads of stacked plates and cutting in at nonsensical points. There were spoiled grape tomatoes and broccoli heads, huge partial heads of lettuce, yet no cottage cheese??? The beef stroganoff had overcooked pasta, the beef and mushrooms were indistinguishable from one another, and there was not enough "gravy" (that's what their menu called it). Prime rib was gray and bland. Shrimp was bland. Salmon was bland. Mac & cheese was dry and bland. There were five of us, and the only thing that was truly enjoyed at any point was the French onion soup. We wanted to order more drinks and planned on having dessert, but due to how thin management spread Tiff, we basically prayed to baby Jesus just to get our bill. Shame on the owners/management! She was literally running, while older waitresses with a handful of tables were lounging. Teach the old ones to buss tables. This is not a good look for Sky Club. Not only did you lose money on food & drinks with mismanagement, but out of all the supper clubs in the state, we never want or plan to return again. read more

Good ol' supper club. And don't disappoint. Drinks were great- waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive. Previous reviews stated the salad bar was questionable- but we all disagree. The staff was consistently cleaning, restocking and keeping everything cold and fresh- we loved their offerings and was happy to have made the choice to add to our meals. Had a large group with us- celebrating a graduation.. didn't slow our service down. Happy that we were able to visit here- close to StePo- and easy to get to. read more

Sky Club Supper Club - the most epic disappointment in my supper club adventures so far. We're talking office Christmas party level of letdown. I tried to eat, but my confidence was shattered when I asked the server if they used separate oil for fried foods and fish-related items. She looked at me like I was crazy, and not the good kind of crazy, and said she had no idea. I explained that shellfish, scallops, and fish are basically poisonous to me, and she said she'd check with the kitchen. But, of course, she never came back with an answer. So, I tried to find something that didn't involve deep-fried components. I asked her which meal she preferred, stroganoff or legendary chicken. Her response? 'We sell a lot of those.' I asked if she'd tried them, and again, 'we sell a lot of those.' I asked if she'd ever tried either, and crickets. She just asked which one I wanted. I opted for the stroganoff, and boy, was it a disaster! The meat was like chewing on a gristly shoe. The onions and mushrooms were overwhelming and bitter. The noodles were long and overcooked. And don't even get me started on the wine sauce - it was like someone poured bitter disappointment all over my plate. The dish was clearly nuked in the microwave, and the sour cream on top was scalding hot and congealed into a weird, goopy pool. The salad bar was straight out of the Dark Ages - I'm talking original, never-updated, still-has-the-same-old-liver-wurst-from-1950. On the bright side, if you're into retro vibes, you might enjoy the giant bowl of mystery meat that might be liver wurst, or the enormous bowl of strawberry jam (no crackers or bread in sight). And, hey, who needs a boring old fruit salad when you can have a jello mold of unidentifiable giblets? We won't even get into the mishandling of food while serving - let's just say that the shrimp that fell off the plate into my bowl was the cherry on top of this disastrous dining experience. Oh, and did I mention the giblets jello mold? Yeah, that was a thing. Apparently, it's a retro, savory gelatin dish made with ground cooked giblets, hard-boiled eggs, onion, mustard, and mayonnaise, all suspended in a gelatin base made from cooking stock. Yeah, because nothing says 'appetizing' like a gelatinous cube of giblets. Definition - A giblets jello mold is a retro, savory gelatin dish (aspic) that combines ground cooked giblets (gizzards, liver, heart, etc.) with various ingredients like hard-boiled eggs, onion, mustard, and mayonnaise, all suspended in a gelatin base made from the cooking stock. It is a traditional appetizer or side dish, particularly associated with mid-20th-century American cuisine and supper clubs in the Midwest. read more

Fantastic old school supper club. Beautiful dining area. Large bar perfect for having an Old Fashioned while waiting for your reservation time. I would recommend a reservation because it can get busy. They are the home of the first salad bar in a restaurant. It was quite expansive with iceberg salad, spring mix salad and baby spinach salad. Plus several types of potato salads, pasta salads and vegetable salads. Plus more. Dinner menu had lots of options. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. Steaks and seafood all cooked properly. Came here for Christmas lunch. It was packed. Buffet style. Not going to lie, I was hoping for a prime rib and was sad to find out the buffet was the only option. I literally can't recall the last time I've eaten at a buffet and can tell you I definitely have not since the pandemic. The salad bar was okay, there wasn't even any Caesar dressing. Not going to lie, the lunch buffet selection was slim pickings for hoe many people there were. They had turkey, ham, chicken (I swear they boiled it), mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, stuffing, Swedish meatballs and fried shrimp. The shrimp was the best part. To drink I had the Dreamcycle martini, it was pretty decent. Dessert was a NY style cheesecake with chocolate syrup (they ran out of pumpkin pie but I wanted the cheesecake anyway). This has been on the list since I learned about it. I was in this part of the State visiting extended family. We had to come. Interestingly, even thought he salad bar was created here, we weren't going to have room to justify having it. I started with one of the Shifty's Old Fashion cocktails. I can see why it's popular, but it's a bit sweet for me. The appetizer was escargot in mushroom caps. Amazing. I've never had anything like it. I love escargot in Paris, but this matched it, in it's own way. Along with the Angus Ribeye, it was a very nice meal. The one nit is the french onion soup came without cheese. It was good, but not what we expected. When we mentioned that, they said we had to know to ask for cheese to be added. Hmmm. As soon as I walked into Skys, I definitely felt the WI supper club vibe! The decor is a bit dated but I don't mind that. Very clean place. The bar area is big. Our drinks were good. The table we sat at was kind of squished into a booth. Just not very comfortable. You get a small loaf of bread to start. The salad buffet is huge! You could just order that as a meal. My hubby and I really enjoyed the salad buffet. They even had pate' with crackers, yummy. My hubby had the angus ribeye. The meat was a great cut and tender. He just wished it had more seasoning on it. The Dirkskis side are like deep fried potato skins. They were really good! I had the Parmesan crusted haddock. I was bummed, it tasted a bit fishy. I wasn't expecting that. But the Parmesan crust was good. I had the mac & cheese side. Delicious! Super cheesy with Gouda cheese. The prices are a bit high but we were stuffed and had leftovers. We haven't been to the Sky Club in ages, owing to rumors that we'd heard that it had "gone downhill". Let me say this is a lesson on not paying attention to rumors! We stopped in for Fish Fry and were very pleasantly surprised by one of the tastiest fish we've had in ages. We started with the salad bar, which looked a little tired but had plenty to satisfy our group. The potato salad was a highlight for me, as well as the hot bacon dressing slowly simmering in a crock. The cod was crispy but moist and very fresh. The fried shrimp, though, was the real standout and comes in a sizable mound. The beer batter in which it is fried was ahead ah-maze-ing! But the real star was the the sizeable, herbed potato pancake. My Brady old fashioned had a nice hit of bitters, which I really liked. When my wife first said that we had a reservation for the sky club supper club, I wasn't really sure what to think. I knew that the supper club had been featured on the public television show about supper clubs, but I have been disappointing with supper clubs before. We checked in at the front, and the hostess was almost excited for us that we came early so we could enjoy a few cocktails. We sat down in the bar and were greeted by a friendly young bartender who made a nice lemon drop martini for my wife and a pretty good bourbon Old fashioned with Ginger ale and olives for me. The real fun started when the more seasoned bartender took our second drink order. He made my bourbon old-fashioned - this time with Makers Mark - and after one sip, I knew I was in the right place. You see, the younger bartender used the jigger to put in one shot of bourbon, the more seasoned bartender poured by feel and there was more bourbon than in the first drink. The bartender also listened closely, so when I guessed that a blender drink he was serving to someone at the bar was a pink squirrel, he confirmed my hunch and then quizzed me on what one of the other blended drinks was. He made our time at the bar, fun and prepared us for when we got to the dining room. Once seated, the fun really began. The waitress was extremely friendly and took our orders. I got the 20-ounce prime rib with no onions or mushrooms and my wife got the 12-ounce prime rib with mushrooms. There was no salad bar or relish tray, but that is not a complaint. Covid has changed the way many businesses have to operate and while we looked longingly at the salad bar we understood why it wasn't available. Because I got the 20-ounce piece and chose to have it medium rare. It came back as tender and juicy and flavorful as I had hoped. My wife's 12-ounce cut cooked to medium was very good as far as flavor, but when she tasted a piece of mine, she understood why I ordered mine, medium, rare. Let's talk about the baked potato... One thing that I miss in these modern times is that not many places make fully-cooked baked potatoes anymore. I have fond memories of working at a supper club and ordering just the baked potato because it was soft and fluffy on the inside and so flavorful. The baked potato at Sky Club did not disappoint. I had butter and sour cream salt and pepper and each bite brought back fond memories. I love au jus, and my cut of meat came with a good amount of au jus but just not enough for me. When I asked the waitress for additional au jus, she said it wasn't a problem and promptly bought me back a nice cup of au jus. When the waitress returns to ask us how he liked our meals. I gave her a look that said, "Are you kidding me?" but she took that look as me being mad at her. Nothing could've been further from the truth. Our meals were excellent, including the warm, soft loaf of bread that began the entire meal. When the waitress returned to ask us if we had room for dessert I again gave her that look of "Are you kidding me?" but somehow found the room to fit in dessert. My wife had a chocolate martini this time, and I had their homemade cheesecake with caramel sauce. By the time my wife looked towards me, the cheesecake was gone. A very large slice was so good I devoured it in a blink. As we checked out, I also added a bottle of their own old fashion mix, concocted by their longtime bartender. Now I can make a supper club, quality old fashion in the comfort of my own home. My husband and I lived in the area for 3 years and kept hearing good things about the sky club. So we decided to give it a try since we are supper club followers. My goodness what can I say. It was perfection!!!!!! Upon arriving the hostess greeted us and she was great! We explained we had never been there before and she was amazing! Very personable and sweet. My specialty order is the lemon drop Martini and it was delicious. My husband ordered the sweet crown royal old fashioned and it was impeccable!! The appetizers and salad were fantastic. But that prime rib, now that's the best I've ever had in my life. It was done perfectly and the taste was out of this world. I recommend your restaurant to everyone!! read more

This restaurant was not a good experience. My daughter tried to order prime rib rare and the waitress said no (it was too late to get it rare at 6:30), so ordered filet rare and it came medium/well. When the rare filet was finally delivered it was clearly not a great quality steak (as the price point would indicate). I ordered the salmon, and it was very dry, and very fishy (I love salmon, but this was by far the worst I have ever had). The salad bar is advertised as a specialty of theirs, but it was very average at best. We like supper clubs, but not this one. read more

This is a fantastic supper club! It's a family-owned business that goes back generations. My husband and I had a great time trying a few different kinds of old-fashioneds at the bar while Eric Freund, the owner, shared some great stories about the family restaurant. Dinner was AMAZING...the jumbo beer battered shrimp is a huge portion and was perfectly done--lightly battered and crispy, not greasy. They are known for their prime rib which was also excellent. Excited to check another supper club off my list. 7:15 reservation on a Friday night. They were full and busy...a great sign. Love the ambiance! Bathroom was nice and clean. Had to wait about 15 for a table and took a while to get bread and water once seated but that was the only down. Ok..one more...unfortunately the famous salad bar is closed due to Covid but a nice side salad was served. Shared the fried mushrooms and they didn't skimp. Husband had the French onion and Ribeye. Both great flavor and cooked to order. I had the Walleye in lemon butter and the potato pancake. Both were amazing!! Our waitress and the one in training were both great! All staff seemed very friendly and like they enjoyed working there. Good beer on tap and of course a nice Old Fashioned. It was New Year's Eve and was in town with friends for the evening and what a great meal to end 2018 with! We made a reservation and a few of us go there thirty minutes early. We checked in and they had our table ready for us! We sat at the bar and got a couple of old fashions waiting for the rest of the group. We were taken to our table as soon as we were ready. We had a great young waitress, who was fun, sassy and was able to deal with our shenanigans. She was also very accommodating to the requests we made through out the evening. Like many supper clubs, there was a salad bar. According to them they're home of the first ever salad bar, which started in 1950. They are salad bar pros. They had a big bowls of lettuce, spinach, and mixed greens. Plenty of condiments and dressings - I really wanted to pick all of them. Along with veggies and fruit salads, my friends and I was trying to solve what this mysterious gelatin creature was at the salad bar. We asked our server and found out it was chicken giblet mold....what!?!? Her response was, "yeah for some reason old people like it." LOL I've never heard of or had it. I think I'll leave it to the older crowd. They had a pretty simple menu of steaks and seafood. I went with the prime rib and baked potato. Totally regretting not getting the double baked potato after seeing almost everyone else getting it. My prime rib was cooked how I liked it, and it seems everyone got their meal as they liked it. We arrived to the Sky Club on Saturday night for date night. It is kind of non-descript on the outside but the inside is tastefully decorated with nice paneled wood and a huge bar area. We were seated immediately and our server greeted us fairly quickly. She was very personable and friendly. My wife ordered the Caesar salad and was pleasantly surprised with the marble rye croutons. She stated it was delicious. I had the Baked French Onion soup and it was probably one of the 5 best I have ever had in a restaurant. Not too salty, and the flavors melded perfectly together. Her entree was the broiled fish with baked potato and mine was the full rack of ribs with a baked potato. Both baked potatoes were cooked great. The fish was tender and full of flavor. My ribs were good but on the slightly dry side. They were meaty and had a good sauce. Dessert consisted of cheesecake with ganache and a Grasshopper. They were fabulous. We went here for the 1st time this Father's Day. We started with an old fashioned it was good but not muddled. I picked the soup instead of the salad. Creamy potatoe very yummy. My husband's salad looked fresh. Before Covid they had a big salad bar. My mother in law had the steak stroganoff, she brought enough home for two meals. My husband reserved here for our anniversary, also it was Valentine's Day. Our reservation was at 8:00 but we didn't get seated until 8:45. They seemed unorganized and did things the old fashion way. They had a salad bar which had iceberg lettuce, spinach, slices of radishes, veggies with dip, potato salad, etc. It was alright. Our server was awesome and attentive. She answered a lot of questions my husband had relating to the food. She was knowledgable about the menu. The Prime Rib was delicious! Husband had the 6oz steak and 5oz lobster. It came with a ton of fries. Decor is very outdated but there's plenty of seating. I just wish I wasn't seated so close to the bar. Great food and welcoming atmosphere. I have been to the supper club several times and each time I feel more welcome and comfortable. Ask Eric, the owner and bar tender, to recommend a wine...he knows a great deal about libations and is happy to share his knowledge. The food is sublime....I have ordered several items and have been happy with each choice. The Thursday steak special will knock a basket off your head... Steak au Poivre. The French Onion soup is delicious and the salad bar offers and array of fresh and tastey options...hot bacon dressing is ambrosia. I am fairly new to Point and the Supper Club experience, but it didn't take long before it rose to the top of my list of "never miss" dining experiences. If I was a native Midwesterner, I would have given Sky Club a 5. However, I'm from the South so I expected more salad toppings, like boiled egg or sunflower seeds, on the salad bar. The Sky Club claims to be the birthplace of the salad bar, and they put the Midwestern spin on it. There are plenty of choices in greens and many, many choices in prepared salads like slaw or pot salad to go on top. I would have liked some sliced cucumber and tomatoes. The hot bacon dressing was awesome, though. Being in Wisconsin, we had to start with fried cheese curds. They were barely battered (my preference) and fried to a light gold color. Very tasty! They also brought mini loaves of homemade bread to the table. This was Friday before Mother's day, and the special was a massive ribeye. Yum!!! It came after a cup of delicious clam chowder and was cooked to a wonderful medium rare. For a dairy state, this place knows how to grill a steak! One in our party had surf and turf with broiled shrimp. They were beautiful, served with clarified butter. We left, too full to have dessert, with lovely ribeye bones for the dog. read more

Over my first inclination, I went back last week with several others after my prior bad experience. This time was very much improved. My meal was very good. Staff was friendly and very efficient. The perch, and walleye entrees were great. Only complaints were that mac and cheese was a bit lacking in flavorand though one person in the party had the smoked brisket which they found it to be very tough and dry. Tonight was our first trip to Sky Club. I must say we were impressed. Had a great time and a great dinner. The evening started out with a couple rounds of drinks at the bar. The bar tender was attentive and mixed the drinks well. The other patrons at the bar were friendly, we bought a round, and the spirit of Wisconsin had shone through with a friendly round bought back. Seems that friendliness has become a bit of a lost art... but not here. On to dinner. Our waitress was friendly quickly greeting us at the table. Checked if we needed any refills, told us of specials, then gave us time to decide. Our group of 4 ordered, a filet, scallops, ribs, and broiled frog legs. We each ordered the French onion soup. The soup came piping hot, with melted cheese for those who requested it. I highly recommend adding it... just not French onion soup without it. Next was a trip to the salad bar. Plentiful options, with everything fresh and inviting. I personally enjoyed the peppers, liver pate, and the cucumber salad. The entrees were well enjoyed by all. I had the broiled frog legs, which had a dusting of spices and Parmesan. The preparation was perfect... they were juicy, tender, and delicious. If you have never tried them... they are spectacular. The evening finished with a well brewed cup of coffee. We look forward to future return trips. They are a great part of the Supper Club circuit! We arrived about 5 minutes before our reservation time and were told we would be seated on time. We were seated 30 minutes later. Sky Club may have invented the salad bar but clearly other restaurants have improved on it. Their salad bar was fairly small and not well maintained the night we were there. Our food food was mostly mediocre but my wife's ribeye was bad. It had a texture that was not like beef. She got me to try a bite and I regretted it. She speculated that it had been soaked in tenderizer for too long. It was weird. We wanted to check out the place that invented the salad bar. Don't get sucked in. We won't be back. read more
