He even checked prices on windows to see if his contact could do better on price. George was our main framer and he was there every morning and extremely meticulous about his work. They run a very good operation and kept the job site clean and they were very polite. We love the new patio! We didn't put walls in on the inside (just kept the framing open with only exterior siding) and we really like the way it looks, it helps that the framing was done so well. I did all the painting and window trims (inside) myself and also built some big shelves with the scrap lumber that I asked to keep after they were done. Now our previously dirty open outside patio is enclosed, we have a great laundry/relaxation/dog/storage area that is free of leaves and offers cool winds from the jalousies we put in. I would offer no hesitation in recommending Shaka Construction. I've been an owner builder on a previous house where we dealt with a bunch of various contractors and believe Shaka is right up there with the best.

We picked out our shower materials at Home Depot, and he purchased everything for us and provided receipts so we always knew exactly what we were paying for. He even drove to the other side of the island to pick up a glass panel we found on Facebook Marketplace to complete our shower! Maika'i installed damaged/ defective floor tiles in both my bathrooms and tried to say the…read morescratches were part of the "design" of the tiles. One bathroom had 18 scratches and the other had 14. The scratches are between 3-5 inches in length and are very noticeable on the polished surface. First they tried to say it wasn't noticeable then they said it was part of the design. They will not replace it or refund me enough so I can hire another contractor to replace it. The work supervisor jun sent me pictures of another customers shower walls that had the same scratched tiles with red arrows pointing out the scratches and said it was "not noticeable unless you looked at it at an angle." This means they are installing defective/ damaged material in other customers homes too. I saved many years to afford this remodel and I am devastated by their poor work and materials. They also did a bad job of grout on the shower floors and bathroom floors and when I asked why pipes they installed for my tub to walk in shower conversion were off center they said they always do it that way. If they had told me they planned to install the pipes off center before they did it I would have hired a different company. Communication is very poor with this company. None of the workers on site speak English and their "supervisor" is rarely there so the workers are left on their own and they have poor judgement and little common sense. The owner Q never answers e mails or text messages when you have concerns and the supervisor Jun tries to charge you extra to fix problems they caused that should have just been done right the first time. They were supposed to install shower doors I bought from Home Depot but on their first attempt the doors were askew and not aligning parallel to the shower walls and they only glued the door jams on instead of following the instruction manual and using the provided wall anchors and screws that came with the kit. Then they threw away the box. I sent them a video from Home Depot showing them how to do it. The supervisor Jun assured me that he and the workers had watched the video and would do it correctly with screws the next day. The next day I called Jun and he said he was there when they put the screws in. I told him that the door jams peeled off the walls because once again they only used glue and no screws. I had to hire a different contractor to put in the doors even though in our signed contract Maika'i was supposed to provide the labor to install the doors and I paid them to do it. The owner Q said that it wasn't necessary to follow the instruction manual for installing the doors because his office worker who used to work at Home Depot said it wasn't necessary. I would guess that this worker has never installed a Delta Contemporary sliding shower door in their life. They put so much grout on the shower floor it obscured the floor tiles and you couldn't pry out the shower drain if you had a clog that needed to be snaked. Then they chipped the tile when the chiseled off the excess grout off the drain cap. Other red flags to watch out for: they want most of the money upfront or halfway through with only 5% due at completion of work. This gives them little incentive to finish in a timely manner or do a good job the way a 50% at completion would. They wanted me to buy flooring from their store for them to install but it only had a 10 year warranty. I told them my brother's flooring from Bougainville had a lifetime warranty for residential use and Jun said they could make theirs a lifetime warranty because they worked closely with the manufacturer in China. I needed popcorn ceiling that had asbestos in it removed. Although the contract I signed with them said if the ceiling had asbestos it would have to be professionally abated, Jun told me they could remove it even though it had asbestos and "we do it all the time." I told him his workers didn't have protection from breathing it in and I didn't want them getting mesothelioma. I also didn't want me or my family to get mesothelioma from their contaminating the whole house and the abatement company said it is illegal to be dumping that stuff in regular trash. I could go on but this is getting pretty long. My advice to you would be to know they are not accredited with the Better Business Bureau but you can still file a complaint against them with the BBB and the BBB will work to mediate for you, you can file a complaint with the Hawaii state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, but most importantly do not hire this company! Save yourself the stress and sleepless nights. They are cheaper than most other companies but there is a reason for that. Sometimes you get what you pay for and sometimes you get even less than you paid for...

They just want to…read moregrab your money and run -They skipped essential steps while installing my flooring, causing long-term damage. -The tiles they installed for me now leak dirty water from below, indicating that they probably didn't even put concrete underneath. -They also use every chance to add more fees to their services. -The floor liner bubbled up after only a couple of months. -The stair installation was also terrible, as the wood started to fall apart and pinch my foot as I stepped on it. -They installed an island without an outlet, even though I requested one. While building, they didn't even use the slab design I chose because it was out of stock; since I am easygoing, I wasn't going to start an ordeal over it. I'm unsure if that was the case or if they have to use the cheaper product for us because we have no construction knowledge. Furthermore, when we cleared my brother's room to turn it into a baby room, we noticed painting spots all over. -They did not move anything and only painted to please the visible eye. We are now seeking out them to make this right. If you don't have experience in the same field or knowledge of fixing houses, I wouldn't recommend using their services. They are not honest and genuine in providing their services. Unfortunately, we didn't have basic knowledge of construction and were scammed by them.

A few days later their One Restoration team came in to do the tear-down of the damaged upper casement. They were very pleasant, on time and spent a lot of time prepping to make sure they didn't spread the dust & debris. Then Aaron came back & spent 3 days restoring the drywall, prepping, repainting (orange peel), and reinstalling the brackets for the blinds. He even offered to move our furniture back into place. Everything looks as good as new. He did an excellent job and always kept us informed as to what he was doing. We feel that the estimates were very fair. Everyone was so professional and we're very happy that this organization hires veterans.

Our condo has some pretty strict requirements such as putting them under Hy's insurance policy and getting everything approved. Josh helped us with the process, and got our condo on their policy quickly. After we signed with them, we did a walk through of our condo, they were very detailed in asking questions to understand what we wanted and were super helpful and patient with our many questions lol. They got rid of our all our popcorn ceiling, carpet, installed vinyl plank for our entire condo, as well as change out our bathroom vanities & mirrors, and made shelves for our bathrooms. It turned out even better than I expected honestly! Afterwards I remember looking up at our ceiling and feeling grateful of how smooth and well done it is and the vinyl planks were done beautifully. Everything was really meticulously done even down to the quarter rounds that line the edges of our flooring. Mr. He and his partner did most of the work, he was very communicative, professional and even did many little extra things for us around the house that my husband thought of later like installing shower/tower rods so everything matched, at a very reasonable price, he even painted our door for free! He kept us informed throughout the renovation, from the initial estimate and planning process to selecting materials and appliances and completing the finishing touches. Even after we moved back in, he remained available to address a few minor adjustments that naturally come up after a major renovation, which we appreciated. The project was estimated to take about four months, and despite a few minor delays that were outside of anyone's control, it was completed within the expected timeframe. Even though they didn't have many reviews, the ones they did have were all extremely positive, which gave me the confidence to take a chance on them. 2. Got a quick response to my inquiry via Yelp. 3. Nick was the person I communicated with throughout most of the process -- from getting the initial quote, talking details, and coordinating/securing a time frame -- he was super easy to talk with and was prompt in responding. 4. They were able to accommodate us and fit us into their schedule, since we wanted to get the work done soon (like within a couple weeks). 5. Veteran owned and operated. Nick was very clear with the scope of work, detailing everything they'd be doing and outlining the cost breakdown, as communicated through the official quote he provided; all of it was straightforward and made logical sense, so it was really simple to understand. You get exactly what you pay for. A two-person crew (Paul and Scott) was assigned to our project, and they did an amazing job of plastering, smoothing out, and painting our ceilings!
