We had so much fun, and the rental equipment was of good quality. Just remember to bring sunscreen and water. We booked our tour the day of and it worked out, but I would recommend booking in advance. This is a small operation, and we felt terrible that they had to get our rentals ready with such short notice. They did everything perfectly, from communication to the meeting spot to punctuality, but please don't do what we did and book in advance if possible!

I was trying to pick up a couple of Specialized Turbo Kenevo bikes and most everywhere was out-of-stock because of the big sale they were having ($9000 MSRP down to $5800). Eventually did get what I wanted - but could only have them delivered and was shopping around for a great shop to set them up, test ride and go. Well, found the folks at Siskiyou Cyclery. Usually I'm heading further north to Medford, but the plan was to also enjoy Oregon and take a visit to Crater Lake. These folks are conveniently located near middle of Ashland. They're on a main road so you will have an easy time finding them (and turning around if you miss). Parking is nice - there's two spots on the road in front of the shop, parking in the back and next door parking if you have a larger vehicle as well. Inside, it's a bike shop. Nothing fancy. What is nice is that while I was waiting, I saw one mom bring her kids (6?) bike in because of a flat. I saw another guy just wander in needing a derailleur. Very low-key and friendly in terms of "sure, drop it off and come back this afternoon" and no, I didn't feel I was being blown off while they got those folks in and out. When I was picking up the Kenevo's, engaged in light conversation and they knew their stuff. "What is the bottom bracket of the e-bike?" or "what is the largest chain ring I can run?" plus they got into the conversation of what e-bike rules are locally, which varies crazily for USDA and USFS along NP land. Grabbed a bike, after it being set up and went for a quick ride. You can go right out the door, and then right again to head towards Starbucks. You can stay on that same road the shop is on for a long and level ride. You can go straight out and head up some minor inclines (not 10 ring stuff, but middle cog, haha) Paperwork was easy, in and out basically. You're not going to be stuck there while they treat you like a baby explaining how the dropper seat post works, or how to charge up your e-bike - unless you want to be. Overall, because "Oregon" and "Ashland" convenience, this is a great shop to stop by, get repairs or parts, and enjoy the Ashland scenery!

My friends from Eureka, CA and I decided to take a dirtbike riding and camping trip in the Johns Peak/Medford area since I live in Portland, and it's a good spot to meet in the middle. I've been to this riding area before and thought I knew it well. Boy was I wrong. We hooked up with David from Oregon Adventures through a friend, and found out we hadn't even scratched the surface of this amazing riding area. Not only did he know the history of this area, he was very well versed in all the trails and the best places to ride that nobody knows about. He was an outstanding guide and I felt like I was riding with a buddy. There's no doubt I will use this service again next time I'm riding an unfamiliar area. Highly Recommended.

I purchased my tickets online and we were scheduled for the 0900 shuttle to Wizard Island. We…read morearrived at 0800 with plenty of time to check in at the top before we descended the Cleetwood Cove trail. This was a breathtaking hike down even with a bit of smoke. Once at the bottom, you check in again and wait for your shuttle to take off. Staff are neutral and not overly friendly. There are restrooms, but they were not the cleanest. It appears the old stone doc took some damage and there are construction fences throughout the area where you wait to board. To get on the boat you show your ticket number and pick any seat you would like. I recommend sitting closest to the captain so that you can get out first. They go over a brief safety announcement before taking off. The boat ride was smooth due to minimal wind and we even went past the "old man of the lake"- a log that floats completely upright and has for ~450 years. Once on Wizard island you were given three hours to explore. There are two hikes- Fumarole bay and the Summit. The Summit is the most popular of the two. I completed both and even enjoyed a little swim in fumarole bay. We were unfortunately called back in early to evacuate the island due to poor air quality from smoke. They explained that they would blow a horn three times in a row for us to hear and that we would need to rush back to the boat... and if we didn't make it in time that they would have to send out a rescue boat later which would be costly. We were in Fumarole Bay at the time the horn was blown and could barely hear it. By the time everyone was back at the boat we were only leaving the island 15 minutes earlier than we were set to originally. It felt like an unnecessarily stressful way to end the day, to just leave 15 minutes earlier. I understand there are protocols they have to follow- but perhaps make something so that people can more easily hear on the farther parts of the island. The ride back was uneventful. On return to Cleetwood cove there were many people at the bottom fishing, sunbathing, and swimming. The hike back out took about 30 minutes and there are plenty of spots to rest along the way.

The boat trip itself is great - fast and smooth, over the bluest water you will ever see. Hiking to Fumarole Bay involves many loose volcanic rocks - they are sharp, be careful. Views are amazing and unique. And the hike back up - bring plenty of water, it is definitely a slog but with a view that gets better and better. Despite the trials of the hiking involved, this is amazing and 5 stars all the way, a unique experience anywhere in the world.

Overlooking their cultivated, extraordinary grapevines in the distance, we learned they've been growing them for almost 20 years now and their wine operation has been producing classic vintages that encapsulate French, Italian and Spanish heritages for almost as long. The main, multi-story building and climate controlled barrel cellar resembles an Italian basilica, complete with Campanile tower, gracious decks, balconies and an artistic Galleria that looks into the immaculate tank room. As we settled in, we were excited to begin the experience of tasting their food and pairing it with some great estate wines. The gourmet restaurant offers an elegant fusion of world-class wines and seasonal cuisine, creating a truly unforgettable culinary journey. Under the guidance of Head Chef Alfredo Nava, his kitchen brigade takes pride in sourcing the freshest, locally grown vegetables, fungi and fruits from the Rogue Valley. This important detail was refreshing to hear, when considering the current standard for many restaurants is sourcing ingredients through Sysco or other broadline food distributors. Belle Fiore's menu is appropriately condensed to two pages, but offers something for everybody. From appetizers, a house-made pasta special, flatbreads, salads, mains, a vegetarian (GF) option and daily desserts made from scratch, I think you'll find a satisfying choice. For our meal, we chose the bruschetta on a fresh baguette to begin, with a flight of refreshing whites. Then our mains arrived in timely fashion by our attentive server and I was happy to see well plated dishes coming out hot from the kitchen. Colorful, generous and composed, all looking very appetizing as set gently before us. I had the pork porterhouse, pan-seared and roasted, then topped with preserved cherries over a layered slab of potatoes "au gratin", with steamed garden vegetables on the side. The 1" thick cut was perfectly cooked (not dry at all) and was as juicy as the tart cherries that balanced the rich meat well on the palate. Wifey had the filet of beef and happily shared a few bites with me. Honestly, it was the best entree of the night and the finest steak I have tasted in years. The tender filet was rare-mid-rare with a caramelized crust, topped with Rogue Creamery blue cheese crumbles for a little funk. Plated with roasted potatoes, steamed asparagus spears and sautéed wild mushrooms in a delicious demi-glacé, fortified with deep wine notes. I would go back tomorrow just for that dish. Both of our mains were paired with a flight of robust and jammy estate reds. Even though we were pleasantly stuffed, we had to try their cheesecake croissant dessert, just because it sounded interesting from the server's description. The beautiful slice arrived with macerated berries and a big scoop of pecan ice cream on the side. Unfortunately, I thought it could have been better (we make killer cheesecakes at home) and suspect it had been in the fridge for too long. Even though the flavors were sweet, bright and creamy, the texture suffered from being too dense and doughy.
