The service staff at the Front Desk is lacking customer service skills. She was rude and unapproachable. She demonstrated no empathy of concern for issue and never once apologized for their error. The cabin assigned was not the cabin we requested upon making the reservation. A confirmation was never sent as promised so this created confusion upon our arrival. The cabin assigned was filthy, the bed was not made and there were used bath towels in the bathroom. The blankets were riddled with hair, pet or human. The utensils in the kitchen were filthy. We washed everything before using. The electric fuse box was not cover and hot wires were exposed. The propane stove and heater were not ventilated which required us to sleep with the windows open. Overall, the area is beautiful and I could anticipate at rustic cabin. However the is no excuse for rudeness and a filthy facility. Research other options, or bring your own sheets and blankets, a bar of soap and dish gloves because you will need to clean everything. Rating: 1/2 of a STAR. This placed has turned into a complete dump. We have stayed at Skyline several times, but we will never stay there again. Young lady at the front desk was rude, lacks customer service skills, and she did not like making eye contact. She would not provide her name, and asked me NOT to write a negative review. We left the cabin cleaner, than we found it! Huge disappointment. We are actually doing the Skyline Lodge a favor by staying there, not the other way around! Spend your money wisely. My husband and I stayed here for a night after our backcountry hiking trip in the San Juan wilderness. The rustic old cabin was great place to get away hidden in the San Juan Mountains. The staff was very friendly and they were able to move our reservation up a day at the last minute without a problem. Walking in to the main lodge felt like walking in to a big family room with a giant fireplace and friendly dogs waiting for a belly rub. We really look forward to a longer stay at the lodge in the future. read more

We've been to Sky Line Lodge and more specifically to their Lost Miner's Cafe every year since 2011 and have loved the experience. You have to be going to Platoro to get there, as there is only one through road from anywhere that goes through town. Sky Line Lodge sits across the Conejos River from the road and shares a magnificent view of the mountains with many of their rental cabins, as well as the rest of the very small town. The food is good. We prefer their burgers and fries, but they have breakfast, lunch and dinner on a reasonably priced menu. This is a family run place with plenty of rustic charm and ambience. We always go there at least once during aspen season and have never been disappointed. They're only open from late May until late September, too, so don't think you can just pop in for winter. They won't be there. read more

Four of us went hunting and we stayed in cabin #4 for a week. When we arrived the first thing i noticed when I walked inside that the cabin had serious structural problems. Every floor and wall leaned. To me it was no big deal until other issues started to arise. The cabin has a vent-less propane heater located at the bottom of the loft. With 4 guys, 1 had to sleep downstairs. So while sleeping it was near impossible to regulate the heat for both up and down stairs. It would range 30 degrees between to rooms. The bathroom was a mess. The floor was rotten, shower was the worst I've ever used and the floor leaned so much the toilet lid wouldn't stay up long enough to use it. The owners were not the most friendly folks in town either. It is a husband/wife duo. The husband was nice enough but his wife acted like you was always a bother every time you walked in the lodge. She cussed like a sailor and made everyone feel uncomfortable while looking at their merchandise. The merchandise was 2-3 times higher than the competitor down the street as well. Now the WORST of all. FOOD ILLNESS from the restaurant. After eating in the restaurant, two of the four of us got very sick for a couple days. I wasn't 100% sure the cause was from the Skyline restaurant until speaking with others in the town. It was a pretty common issue going around. Even being sick i elected to go hunting because I there was no way I could spend the day in that cabin. There is nothing that ruins an elk hunt like being sick for two days. Here is a small list of other complaints. *You could always count on stepping in the owners dog crap every day on the cabins front step. *Only enough parking for one vehicle. (barely) *The cabin smelt like sewage most nights when we got back. *The coffee maker had grounds and filter in it for who knows how long. This stay was just a very small step above a nice tent. If I showed up to this cabin for a vacation with my family, I would have left. Do yourself a favor and look at other options in town. read more

We were very unhappy with our stay at Sky Line Lodge. We stayed in a cute cabin with no fire wood for our fireplace. The worst experience we had, was when we requested a late departure the morning we were leaving, of which we were granted. But when we got our statement we were charged $50 late fee. And by the way, check out is 9:00 AM. When I called Sky Line and asked why the fee, they said we left to late. We walked out of the cabin at 10:00 AM. We were shown very little, if any respect and or hospitality. We will never stay at Skyline Lodge again. And I grew up there. read more

HEARTLESS OWNERS WHO PLACE MONETARY GAIN OVER DEATH!!! Wish there was negative stars button to push. Had to cancel our reservation 3 days before we were scheduled to be there with our grandchildren as my granddaughter passed away the day before our first night stay. My daughter called to speak with the owner Mr Mark Jaffe to plead our case in possibly refunding the 500.00 deposit, not only did he refuse, he had one of his staff tell her that the remaining 500.00 would be charged to the credit card as July was their busiest month in terms of income. He refused to come to the phone and my email explaining the situation for better understanding and a little compassion came back. I understand the reservation policy, but that 500.00 would be used for funeral expenses and we are all in mourning at the loss of our 10 year old little girl. I've never had such rudeness displayed... Totally unbelievable! Have shared this with my friends and family. Not the kind of people I will do any business with in the future! Disappointing that these people put money over a loss if life! We used to go there every year when our girls were little but JR and Lana Heady were owners then and they were wonderful people! read more

Do yourself a favor and avoid this place, and this town completely. We rode into town earlier today and within 10 minutes we get YELLED at for eating our packed lunches on some picnic tables we thought were for anyone. We were sitting down eating (it doesn't take us more than 5-10 minutes to eat and go) and my dad pointed at a sign saying it was for customers of this place only. So we figured we'd finish up eating and get out of the way. But almost immediately after he pointed it out an old guy came over and asked us to move because it was private property. We said we would and my dad started strapping the lunch back on our vehicles while we finished off our sandwiches. Right as I was about to get up the guy came back yelling at us and talking to us like we were just the worst group of people imaginable. I looked at him and said "Sir, you are a lovely individual." Which just set him off more. My dad said lets just go so I went to walk away and the guy had the audacity to say "next time someone tells you to do something you should shut your mouth and do it." It took every ounce of control I had not to lay him out in the middle of the road. Needless to say, we got on our ATVs and took our group (and their wallets) out of town. Pathetic way to get welcomed to a small town like that. We ride every year, and it could've easily been an annual trip, but he'd rather run off the tourists instead! If you want a good trip try Creede, Pagosa, or Silverton! We went to both this year and enjoyed them tremendously, too bad we had to round off the trip with a bad experience though! read more

Been visiting Platoro for the past 20+ years. We always begin our stay with a trip to Sky Line Lodge for the Platoro Burger. We enjoy a beer with our burger and we have always BYOB since no alcohol is served. The owner came to our table and very rudely pointed out that we did not ask permission to bring in our beer and he was losing money when meals are purchased without drinks being served. This is the same owner who has always allowed us to bring in a beer to drink with our burgers in the past. Well, 4 Platoro Burgers and one tea cost us over $70 when tax and tip were included. We will never go back to Sky Line as long as the current owners are operating there. We usually eat 3 dinners and 2 breakfast meals during our stays there but I hate to see them lose money on account of our business, so no more for us. read more

The same people, Mark and Beverly Jaffe own the Conejos Cabins just up the street, which is where we stayed. Both places are located on the Conejos River at Platoro, Colorado, an absolutely breath-taking location...... We made reservations a year ago and we were told, when we inquired, that they supply linens. We had two washcloths and were expected to use the same ones for a week. One for me; one for my husband-right?? When we ran out of washcloths, I bundled the dirty towels and washcloths up and took them to the Sky Line Lodge for replacements. I was told by Mrs. Jaffe that they do not provide linens, but she would have some brought over to our cabin, so they brought us four more washcloths. After we used those, we stopped at the desk and asked for more washcloths. Mark Jaffe and another girl were there (at the front desk of the Sky Line Lodge). The girl said they did not supply fresh linens, and if we wanted fresh washcloths, we would have to bring them over to their laundromat, and wash them ourselves. "Really?", I asked. Yes, they both confirmed that we were free to wash them ourselves if we required fresh ones. I asked if we could check out and get a refund and Mark Jaffe said we were welcome to leave, but there would be no refund. Again, when we got back later that night, there were fresh linens on the back porch. The white dish towels that were supplied as "clean" were dark gray and stunk to high heavens of old, stale grease. The owners had the unmitigated gall and audacity to post a notice on the wall that says if the cabin is not left clean there would be up to a $200 cleaning fee added to the bill. REALLY?? The cabin was nowhere clean when we arrived with an absolutely nasty 70s style kitchen carpet that had trash under the front of the cabinets, dead bugs everywhere, spider webs on the ceilings, walls and windows, broken windows, ill-fitting curtains, and dripping water faucets that have been leaking so long, the sink is rusted as well as a rag rug in the kitchen that was nasty, torn, and ragged. There is one plug in the bedroom near the bed. The sign in the kitchen says not to use more than one appliance at a time or the breaker will trip. There is no plug in the bathroom. To write this review I had to give it at least a star. Believe me I wish I could give negative stars. I made reservations a couple weeks ago to take my sister, niece and nephew to platoro. Everyone was so excited to go on a family vacation. I made the reservations on June 22. On June 27th my 10 year old niece had an accident on her horse. On July 6th my niece passed away due to her brain injury. My mother contacted skyline to let them know we would not be coming and told them why. They refused to refund the $500 deposit. I emailed them on Thursday and still to this day have not received a response. I just called to speak to the owner and they would not talk to me. Another staff member told me they would not be refunding the depoist and they still might charge me the remaining balance. Believe me I would rather be in platoro right now then planning my nieces funeral. These people have no heart, I pray they never experience this kind of pain. I hope nobody ever treats them in the poor manner they have treated me and my family. These people disgust me. read more
