Once again Sky Power has provided excellent help. All the extremely heavy rain lately has caused a problem with my roof. While the problem was not with the Sky Power installation the preceding removed (by others) installation of pool solar had left some poorly installed and removed hold down bolts which the sealant began to fail. Sky Power technicians removed some of the solar electric panels and discovered and repaired the problems from the long removed pool solar panels. I am very greatly thankful for the prompt service by Tilmo and Anthony. read more

Very frustrated with this company. I already made 3 loan payments the 4th one coming in the next few days and my solar is still not working. I have to keep reaching out to them to make things move. Very disorganized people. The process has not been smooth after signing the contract with them back in February. The solar panels has been installed in May, but it is not producing energy for us yet. Ben, the owner has told me they will reimburse the loan payments I have made so far, and said he was going to see what it was holding us back, but so far nothing has happened. read more

We had an great experience with this company for servicing/supporting a Solaredge system that they didn't initially install. Our system stopped producing and the original installer is unreachable and appears to have gone out of business. I contacted Skypower and was connected to a great technician, Telmo, who spoke to me on the phone a few times to help me understand how the system works and diagnosis issues myself. I then got in touch with SolarEdge, who sent me a new inverter under warranty, and Telmo was able to install it quickly. Our system is up and producing again. Didn't have a good experience with Skypower. I had a Sunpower inverter that stopped working and I called Skypower , a Sunpower recommended dealer, to inspect and advise of the issue. Max came out next day and identified the 10 year old inverter failed and would need to be replaced. Also , we discussed expanding the system. He said he would provide an estimate and send out a sales advisor to go over system expansion. Great first experience but went bad after the initial visit. Didn't hear back had to call several times. When I did get an inverter estimate it was twice the cost being sold online plus installation. Felt being taken. Never heard from a sales advisor after three requests. When the service bill arrived it was $40 higher then quoted verbally. Nothing was done in writing??? Not a professional business in my experience. read more

I did not choose to do business with Sky Power Solar. I leased a system from SunPower in 2012 and they used Sky Power as the installer. There were no problems with the installation done by Sky Power. I had to get a new roof last year and the Lease Agreement required me to used Sky Power to remove and replace the panels. They charged $250 per panel-20 panels for a total of $5000. This price seemed high, even for Bay Area prices but that is not the reason for this bad review. When the technicians reinstalled the panels, they failed to properly reconnect one sting of ten panels. I did not notice the lack of production of many months which was later made worse when the inverter failed. Normally I would be producing more electricity that I consume from April to October but that was not the case last year. I estimate that I will owe PG&E more than $550 in true-up costs this June because of the poor workmanship by Sky Power. I have had email contact with the CEO, Bob Winn, but he has not responded to my request for this refund. If you have a choice in installers, I would recommend that you go elsewhere. read more

I have an existing SunPower System that was installed back in 2011 and that company was an Elite dealer who is no longer in business. I went to SunPower and explained the situation, they gave me a link to the contacts of SP dealers in my area. I contacted Sky Power and explained that I might need someone to come and look at my system, as I believe that my SPR-5000m inverter may not be functioning properly, the LCD display is broken, and that it stopped reporting to the data logger. They called me back, and said they don't service my area (San Jose) for warranty of SunPower unless they installed my system. They suggested I contact another SP dealer closer to me. read more

Sky Power Solar is great. It's a local company, and was one of the first in the Bay Area - been around since 2001. My roofer said this is the only company he thinks is worth the money, after encountering a lot of companies he called idiots. Sky Power rep held my hand through the purchasing process and patiently answered the gazillion questions I had. They are preferred installers for a number of manufacturers, so have the ability to recommend a system that is best for you, and you get the upgraded warranty that comes with using a preferred installer. For example, SunPower brand panels would have been about 3% more efficient for me, but would have cost more than 5% more and had a shorter warranty, so I ended up going with HEC (the manufacturer for other name brands), with Enphase monitoring system. Installation was done by a crew who was easy to schedule, showed up on time, took as long as predicted, explained everything along the way, and even asked whether to place connecting conduit in a visible place on my roof or instead punch more holes to be able to run it inside . (None of the runaround or delays my friends encountered with installation by Sun Power.) When the system was activated, the rep spent about an hour patiently going over all my "what if" scenarios and how the app works. I've had my system operational since early November (it's late December 2023 as I write this). Sky Power has responded quickly to every email I've sent and translated "PG&E-speak" for me. Despite the worst weather, all the evergreen trees around me and fact that my south side faces a hill, the system is working exactly as they predicted, and the Enphase app is easy-peasy. They get two stars because I have solar, and the installers did a good job. I really wanted to say "What a great experience. Skypower Solar rocks!" However, I'm not in that camp. Where I am is in the camp of, "Yeah, I've got solar, but I regret going with Skypower." Post installation execution is where they dropped off the grid. If you use them, expect a 50/50 chance of having to manage scheduling the inspection, painting any conduit, and any other thing that needs correcting. Also, plan to have a pad of paper to write down all things related to monitoring your system because they don't have a pdf of post installation stuff, which is what I expected. Would I recommend them? No. If I were to install solar again, would I use them? No! I hope this helps. read more

After a very thorough and extensive competitive bake-off, I selected Skypower to install photovoltaic panels on my residential roof. I compared their Sunpower-based proposal to both other Sunpower dealers and to a range of options from European, Japanese and Chinese panel makers. The Sunpower panels were the highest rated, but came at a significant price premium. Since I intended to purchase the system outright to reap the maximum financial gain, I wasn't interested the gimmicky 'nothing down' or 'power purchase agreement' financing some of the other guys were touting. To my pleasant surprise, Sunpower offered a 'prepaid' lease that actually made good sense - one payment up front, and a very small transfer fee after 6 years. They take advantage of the tax credit and system depreciation to keep the cost down, and it made the Sunpower system very competitively priced vs everyone else - including the cheap Chinese panels. Their designer was thorough and professional, and created the best layout I'd seen from all the competing proposals. The final design has 32 panels in 5 arrays connected to 2 inverters, which are mounted unobtrusively in the back of the utility area beside the house. They had to work alongside the roofer I had hired (separately) and get the system in by year-end. The roofer was running behind schedule, but Skypower's team worked with them to make sure that the roof segments they needed were done. They finished ahead of schedule and did a nice, clean, professional job. All the parts of the system look great, from the panels and mounts on through to the inverters and conduits. In it's first month of operation, my electric bill dropped from over $400 to $27. Even in January, it generated more than enough power to offset all of my Tier 2/3/4/5 usage. I switched over to the E6 time-of-day usage plan, anticipating that I'll be generating surplus electricity at peak hours throughout the summer. I'll post an update when we get to the summer season. UPDATE June 14: The solar system continues to operate flawlessly. I'm generating around 55 kwh per day. My latest projection is that I'll save over $4,000 per year off my electric bill. After tax incentives, my breakeven on the system works out to 3.3 years. UPDATE: January 2: The savings were greater than I expected. My year-end PG&E reconciliation was a $550 CREDIT - down from nearly $6,000 debit the prior year. With the latest rate increase announced today, my breakeven point for installing the system with a prepaid lease is now 3.2 years. read more

SkyPower installed my 7.6 KWh system in June without a significant hitch. Janice, my first contact in sales, was very prompt and courteous, had details ready for me on day 1, & explained what I could expect from a switch to solar. She was very patient and answered any questions I had from our first meeting forward. Follow up with Nathan and Gary was equally impressive. As most of my neighbors have solar installations by Diablo Solar, I fully expected that I would be going with DS. However, SkyPower was more accessible, getting back to me immediately, whereas Diablo Solar kept me waiting for 2 days to get an answer to a question. I have always felt that prior to signing a contract, companies are auditioning as well as bidding for the work. DS failed the audition. SkyPower blew it away. SkyPower is local, courteous, prompt, professional, and had a better price for the panels I wanted than their competition. During installation, the workers damaged a small piece of sheetrock in my garage which they readily repaired. SkyPower Solar recently installed our 6.1Kw system and was terrific throughout the entire process. Their prices were competitive, but the reason we chose them was due to their responsiveness and professionalism. Our project was complicated because we had to time the solar install with a new roof and also get some permit approvals to be able to go with the maximum/best panel placement. SkyPower was great in working with our roofer, making sure everything was done to maintain our roof warranty and even helped us get a SunPower rebate that was being offered at that time. We worked with Janice, our energy consultant, Nathan, director of operations, and Max, service tech, and we were very impressed by their knowledge and the service they provided. I just got my Sunpower PV system up and running through Sky Power and the whole experience has been excellent. I spoke with 3 other vendors, including Solar City and Sungevity before deciding to go with Sky Power. With Solar City and Sungevity I knew more than the sales people I was talking with and the information I got when I asked questions was patchy at best and totally inaccurate at worst. Now I am an engineer, with associated OCD, so I had done a lot of research myself before contacting any of these companies, but none the less I want to be able to have an intelligent conversation with someone before I spend thousands of dollars on something I am going to have on my roof for 20 years. I chose Sky Power for the following reasons: 1. They are a Sunpower dealer and due to the new fire setback regulations in California I needed high efficiency panels in order to get the total system size I wanted. 2. They were the local Vendor that Sunpower forwarded my initial inquiry about solar to. 3. The sales guy Mark came round to my house to discuss my project and went up on the roof to give me an idea of shading and how many panels I had room for. Way more personal , and accurate, than an email with estimates of shading and roof area from a satellite photo. Mark was very responsive when I asked about the pricing for different configurations before I finally decided upon one. Totally different from my Solar City and Sungevity experience where I felt they were trying to rush me to close the deal, couldn't answer my reasonable questions, and would say whatever they thought I wanted to hear to this end. 4. The final price for the system was very competitive on a $ per KW basis with the added advantage of the best panels on the market. After deciding on Sky Power the whole project ran very smoothly. I e-signed the documents and got a installation date scheduled for about 6 weeks out (they were busy with a year end rush). Sky Power handled all the permitting etc and the installation guys were great, quick, competent, clean, polite just what you want with someone bolting stuff to your roof and getting into your attic to run wires etc.. The system was installed on the Friday and Monday and the inspector came in on Tuesday and signed off on the system. Sky Power then handled the PG&E net metering application, which again I e-signed via an email, and we were all done. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I had a couple of hiccups scheduling the designer to come round to get on my roof with the sun-eye to get the data needed for the final design. I also had to remind the office a couple of times to send me the design to review. I'll put this down to their year end rush. I had Sky Power install solar on my house in Pleasanton and I could not be happier with their performance and the results. I received multiple quotes on this from large national companies like Solar City and Sungevity, as well as other local contractors. I found that Sky Power was very easy to deal with and gave me many options ranging from premium systems with panels from Sunpower or Bosch, or with less efficient, less expensive Chinese panels. I ended up choosing a Chinese panel since I had a lot of southern facing roof, so W/ft^2 was not that important to me. I found that Sky Power had the best price, was able to help me set up financing at a good rate with local CU, and were able to do the installation a week or two after I signed the contract, which was months faster than some of the other quotes. The installation went smoothly. There were some delays due to damaged panels being delivered by the distributor, but Sky Power stayed on top of the situation, kept me informed on the status and revised schedule, and completed the installation in a timely and professional manner. I believe my system is about 24 kW, which is a large system consisting of 60 panels. I was able to completely offset my summer electric bill from $1100 in July to $0 electric in August. My financing payments are $260/month. I am glad I went solar and am glad I chose Sky Power and would recommend them to others with no reservations. read more

I was referred to Sky Solar about 30 days after I started the process of looking at vendors. I interviewed three companies and looked at a couple ways to get solar.. at the end of my process I determined that Bob always gave me the most accurate answers, which was part of my decision criteria as I would need assistance in choosing the right panels, not just the panels that were on the best sale. The competitors warned I was probably getting cheaper components, rails, microinverters... it was just the opposite, I received the highest quality components offered. These guys made EVERYTHING painless. I told them they would have to be competitive with current quotes, they were. They needed to provide a quick turnaround, they did. All of their work, scheduling and communications were flawless. Their installation team was very nice, professional and cleaned up their work space.. very customer service oriented. I had both PV (electric) and a water solar pool system installed at the end of 2013. My rating is an average of these two parts of the business. On the PV side I would give them four starts (Bob runs this side of the business). The 5.2 Kw system is doing well. The crew was professional and the work was good. Everybody I talked to was helpful. On the pool side - I would give them one star or less (Gary runs this side of the business). Such a contrast to the PV experience - the solar pool work felt like I had responsibility for quality control and completeness. I had to call numerous times to get things installed like electrical grounding, piping straps, remote control, operating instructions, etc. Gary rarely followed up. I eventually hired another guy to fix some of the work. read more

We decided to go solar and like everyone I called around and explored a couple different options. I ultimately went with Sky Power, not only because of the price and scheduling, but because I believed in the integrity of the info I was getting from Mark, my initial contact. It was the opposite of a hard sell and he answered all my questions (very often mult times!) and gave me a number of different options. From then on, the process was incredibly smooth and our system went live this month. I'm finding it odd how much I am looking forward to the next PG&E bill. We needed to replace our solar system with a new one because the panels went bad and the company who put hem on went belly up. ugh so needless to have done a ton of research on getting a new system. I talked to two other solar companies but decided to go with them because of their diamond rating and their obvious knowledge. They were as good as I expected. In fact, after they had provided the quote, it turns out that the LG Panels we were going to use would take 6 weeks to procure. Recently Sky Power Solar installed 15 panels on my roof. The installation design and subsequent installation was done is a manner that the panels are almost not noticeable from the road and retained the beauty of the home. They did a great job - met the promised installation date in spite of them getting and working on a bigger project at the same time. It took them two days, but the work was done professionally no hanging wires from the roof - they routed it through our attic and concealed as much as possible. All the permits and inspections were completed in time and we've been enjoying the solar advantage since the past few months. Had a really good experience with Sky Power. They installed a solar sun power system for us a little over a year ago. It's still up and running great. We got several quotes from other venders but Sky Power gave us the best deal considering we were purchasing the system. My one criticism would be that I think they could have done a better job with communications. Later I was surprised to find out that the panels are not working (because PG&E sent me a bill of $2800) and when they came onsite they found that the invertor switch for energy production was turned off. The contractor installed the panels to my satisfaction but failed to deliver me the expected service in the following areas: 1. Failed to show me what the switches and light indicators mean on the invertor. 2. Failed to show me how to monitor solar production levels. 3. Failed to create a registry and username/password for me or provide me documentation/email to me. I just came to know about URL for monitoring the production almost after 1 year. 4. Failed to verbally train me on how to read PG&E bill after the panels are installed. They did send me an email on this but one cannot expect a novice user like me to read all fine prints in the emails and contracts. I used SkyPower to put solar on my house ~4 years ago. I am very happy with not only the solar but the service before, during and after the install. Bob and team came out and did a survey, came back with some options. I went with SunPower panels (~30 total), I have 2 inverters, 8KW total. They also installed a collar on the main breaker line so I know what I am drawing and producing both. During install I asked them if they could help paint the conduit along the house to blend it in, they went to the paint store, got the paint and painted it all without hesitation. After the install we had an issue with one of the inverters, it would go offline randomly. Their crew came out immediately 2-3 times to troubleshoot. Finally they figured out it was a wire issue inside one of the boxes on the roof. They fixed it and things were fine from there. I have already referred 1 person who just had their solar installed last week by Bob and team, would do it again in a heartbeat. BTW - I went from 5K per year for electric to ~1K a year. My total panel amount is perfect, I should break even in ~4-5 years, coming up very quick. Best decision I ever made (getting solar, and, using SkyPower + SunPower). Thanks Bob and team! Sky Power Systems (Tom) came to our home to bid on a solar PV installation. He was very professional. Tom had his electrician come out at a later date to take solar readings on our roof to ensure the proposed system would work (especially with some of the shading issues we have on our property). In addition, any questions we had while comparing the bids were quickly answered by Tom. Tom explained the SunPower pre-paid lease, which helped make the SunPower system very competitive with the other bidders. In the end, we went with a Roof & Solar company as we required a new roof at the same time and felt it would be easier on us if there was a warranty issue in the future. read more
