We first contacted Solar Technologies about putting solar panels on our home in late 2019. We signed a contract with them in January 2020, right before the Pandemic shut everything down. By the time the solar panels were installed in late 2025, we had signed three contracts with them due to a series of delays dealing with all the idiosyncrasies of our old house. Through it all, our sales contact, Jason Coolman, was patient and knowledgeably answer our questions as they came up. Everyone at Solar Technologies that we worked with was great. They made sure that things went smoothly and on time. We are thrilled with our new solar system. Solar Technologies has been a Bay Area Sunshares vendor for many years and a lot of other reviewers sound like they're as happy as we are. Bad bad bad. They were great at making a proposal and getting our money, but there were so many problems with the design and installation. We knew they were running against the clock trying to wrap up installations before the tax credit ran out, but now the system is installed and having TONS of problems and they do not respond to calls or emails. We fin called the manufacturer (Enphase) and they sent a technician out to diagnose and turns out Solar Technologies configured our system incorrectly and other problem. Enphase communicated to Solar Technologies what they need to do to solve all of our problems, but Solar Technologies is completely unresponsive. Our batteries only charge up to 17 percent capacity because they didn't set the system up correctly so basically we paid 50k for a system and that system is only functioning a quarter of what it should be. I wish they would refund us for all the capacity that we've missed out on. They are terrible. read more

I would give them a 0 is I could. (0 days ago I booked a remove and replace contract with solar technologies. I needed a new roof and the solar needed to come off. Sarah is the nicest and great worker has been my only contact and she is not a technician. I requested a pre site visit to review the job and draw up plans and I was told it is billable. So no pre site visit was ever completed. So removal went well. Install is a disaster. We are now 5 days in and I have no working system. I had 2 inverters and wanted to go to one. I was told the Tesla inverter could do that. Today the team removed my 2 old inverters and mounted the Tesla inverter. They then went to the panels and there was no Tesla MCI to connect to the panels. 18 of my panels might not be compatible with the Tesla inverter. 1, I do not have a building permit. This work is being performed while it is in process. 2. There is no install plan. Every time the installers came I had to be project manager. They did not know I was going to 1 inverter. 3. Even when the inverter was in the truck the team did not know I am going to one inverter. 4. My old inverters have been removed and are not usable. Rave review for Solar Technologies! I have 20 solar panels, but only 8 were feeding solar energy to my inverter & battery. Their high-quality technician (Javier) investigated & solved the faulty string series problem, which will save me a LOT of money. Before the fix, my solar panels were sending only 1-2% of needed electricity to my home & I was drawing 85-89% from the grid (very expensive). Now my panels are providing 50% of the needed energy to my home & battery, and I'm drawing about 45% electricity needed from the grid (after dark & after the battery energy is depleted down to the reserve level I've set). I highly recommend this company for investigating your solar system problems! read more

(Complicated by the fact that we have an old house and our city has complicated code rules, nothing to do with Solar Tech). They were consistently available and professional from start to finish which is why we chose them over 2 other firms we considered. I'd strongly recommend you avoid this company. Based on my direct interactions, my personal experience/view is that they are disorganized and unresponsive at best, and at worst they may be potentially fraudulent. We had a brand new system installed in ~ 2016 by SkyPower Solar, a company later acquired by Solar Technologies and now marketed as 'A Solar Technologies Company'. When our system had numerous panels failing in spring/summer of '24, we called them to trouble shoot and fix. They informed us that they would NOT recognize the original system warranty provided by SkyPower Solar (despite having acquired the company) and charged us approx $800 to troubleshoot. They identified approx 9 LG solar panels were failing and ought be covered by LG warranty. While LG had already stated their intention to exit the solar industry, LG had inventory of panels and were willing to provide replacement panels free or a credit towards alternate replacement panels. However, Solar Technologies' inability to efficiently follow-up with LG over several months eliminated the option to replace with stock LG panels (LG ran out) leaving only option for LG to provide a 'credit' to replace broken panel with alternate brand manufacturer. LG stated they had or would provide a warranty credit to the distributor months ago but I have not seen any credit, I have heard nothing from Solar Technologies (despite numerous follow-ups by me), and i still have a broken solar array that was fully under warranty at time I had initially contacted them nearly 8 months ago. buyer beware ... in my experience they do not stand behind their work and are terrible at service follow-up. read more

I had solar technologies install panels under NEM 2. Despite the surging backlog of people getting grandfathered under NEM 2 in April 2023, it went incredibly smooth and they were even able to accommodate the installation in conjunction with the remodel of my home. The final install and inspections were just completed and I could not be more happier. The project managers and contractors were all extremely professional and thorough, and I am so glad I went with Solar Technologies for solar. Avoid at all costs. We signed a contract with Solar Technologies in July 2022 with estimated installation in January 2023. January came and went; we were patient, figuring that with heavy rains, the crew was probably behind schedule. Months dragged on with little communication about when installation would happen. Finally in April 2023, the panels were installed. (The crew was great--friendly and quick.) At that point, we were told the final step was getting our electrical panel upgraded. For the next 9 months, we were in a holding pattern, waiting for this to happen with sparse communication. It turned out the location for the electrical panel recommended by the installation crew (on the side of our house), would only be approved by PG&E if we did a costly, ugly update to our property. The alternative recommended by Solar Technologies was to put this large inverter box literally right on the front of our house, next to our front door. Either location would've involved extra money from us. At no point did anyone communicate that the process of upgrading the electrical panel could be tricky and drag out for months, or that it would involve additional costs. After months of frustration and conflicting information from different people at Solar Technologies, our electrical panel was finally installed. Our rep told us we were good-and finally had solar. The following month we were shocked to get a high electric bill from PG&E. WE called PG&E and they had no record of us having solar--it turns out that because of how long this dragged out, the permit for our project had expired. We've spent five figures on this project, have been under contract for 1.5 years, and still don't have resolution. We chose Solar Technologies because they were the most reasonably priced of the 3-4 vendors we interviewed, but wish we'd paid another couple thousand dollars and maybe we'd have had solar up and running within 6 months. read more

Solar Technologies - Rooftop PV solar for my residence in walnut Creek. Using 12 panels the power delivery is approx 4 kW, similar to what we use - Solar Installation Near Me - San Ramon, California

After getting a much, much lower quote from another provider and then being told by them that they couldn't do our installation (due to a misunderstanding about where we wanted to have the panels situated), we asked Solar Technologies for a quote. Even though the cost was nearly 50% higher, we thought they were a reputable firm and had a local team, so signed on with them in early June 2021. At the time, we were told they would have everything except the Tesla batteries installed and operational within 6 months. Here is an actual quote from June 3, 2021: "For the solar portion, we are definitely working on getting the installation faster than 6 months." It is now April 11 and apparently only because we complained and said we wanted to cancel the contract, we now have panels on the roof and a new electrical box installed. But it is not hooked up. No EV charger. No batteries. No subpanel to connect the solar panels to the electrical box. Just panels that appear to be ornaments on the roof. The installation people were nice enough. But we've been given a sales job. Ironically, the person who gave us the sales job used those words to describe his competition, who seemed to be very straightforward in their communication with me. But we have been given the run-around and treated disrespectfully. I am really regretting not going with the other company, who offered a much lower price, faster timeline and more professional, timely communication. Best decision ever to go solar last year and the project from start to finish went smooth and professional. I first spoke via 1:1 zoom with Emily last year who answered all of our questions (including the disclosure of net metering changes) which we greatly appreciate! The project timeline was slow but ON TIME as they had a backlog of projects and they kept me informed of this. What I appreciate is that Jan (Project Design Manager) sent a timeline table showing what to expect and how long to expect each milestone (such as city permits, etc). It even stated that I might not hear from anyone during certain stages as this is dependent on how fast (or slow) city permits get reviewed and approved. I never felt like I was in the dark about anything. Angelo and crew did a great job on the big exciting install day and Vinny was great during city inspection. Everyone was so professional and I couldn't ask for a better company to do business with. Laura was very accommodating with sorting out my final invoices. Hope I didn't forget anyone. I am very happy with Solar Technologies. I did quite a bit of homework to find the solar panel solution for our townhouse in Hayward. First I looked at all of the major national companies to find what looked like the best company--dependable, safe and long lasting technology. After these discussions, I realized that going with a national firm meant they would be choosing the installation team. I then thought that I wanted to find the best local company to do the installation of the solution that I had chosen. I liked SunPower. They had highly rated panels and their panels included micro-inverters to ensure that only alternating current would be run from our roof to our home. This is much smaller fire risk. In addition, as each panel includes a micro-inverter, a problem with a single panel will not cause the others to stop producing power. When I called Solar Technologies, I found that I was speaking to the same guy (James) I had spoken with then I first reached out to SunPower. They were the local representative. So, we went with SunPower installed by Solar Technologies. We're really happy with the entire job. We are producing more power than we are using. Our meter is running backward. And we feel confident of their being here to support us if any issues ever arise. read more

We have had a very pleasant experience with Solar Technologies and their team and I would highly recommend them for your solar installation project! The rep, Keenan Shaw, was very professional and not in the least bit pushy compared to the two other companies' reps we had dealt with and provide quotes. I got the feeling he was trustworthy and had our interests at heart. He always responded in a timely way by email whenever I had a follow up questions. I was very confident about the actual technology and further reassured that the warranty was 25 years. The system came out on top when compared to Tesla and another solar provider. Though, to be honest, there wasn't much in it when looking at the production numbers. Keenan took us through the design process, explained how the system would meet our requirements in a highly knowledgable manner, and gave us a clear view of the next steps and timeline once we'd decided to go ahead. The project management was very good leading up to, and including the installation itself. As far as the installation process, which took only one and half days and caused minimal disruption, I am happy to say they were very courteous and hard-working. Post installation support has been impressive, so far, too. I'm very glad I chose Solar Technologies and SunPower for my solar system. read more

Our system stopped operating with an error message on the front panel and no longer charging back to the grid. I am very disappointed in this company as they promised the world but in the end delivered nothing. On May 18th, 2018, I entered into a contract with Solar Technologies for a 4kwh system that was roughly $17k. The contract specified that the work would be completed no later than 75 days after the contract had been signed. Fast forward to July, when the 75 days was coming up I contacted Solar Technologies about the status of my installation. I was told "Oh yes, its right on the desk. It is going to be scheduled ASAP". I then waited again until Sept 17th to recontact this company about my installation. Again, I was told "Oh, it is at the top of the queue getting ready for scheduling". At day 120 I have had enough, I told the sales rep "James" that I wanted to cancel and this had been an incredible waste of time. James assured me that the installation was going to be scheduled sometime in the beginning of October. This would mean their completion time was somewhere around 150 days, not 75 days. Had I known at the outset of this endeavor the true wait time for a system, I would have explored other options. I signed a contract with this company for a 75 day completion and they never even remotely attempted to honor their part of the bargain. If I happened to be 75 days late making my payment for the system would they be upset, absolutely. Cancelling out of this whole entire waste of time has also been a headache, as basically everyone is pretending that nobody really knows who does the cancelling? I asked one simple question, "Who can I speak with to cancel my order". I actually never even got a response, name, or phone number. Finally I was sent a Docu-Sign to cancel my solar installation. Be warned, they will tell you their solar panels are the best (maybe?), they will tell you they only use top-notch installers (maybe?), and they tell you their customer service is the best (absolutely lies). I would caution anyone when dealing with this company and entering into a contract with them for solar. If anyone doubts the veracity of this review, I have copies of all e-mails, texts, and the original contract. ** EDITED FOR FOLLOW UP FROM JEFF ** I received a phone call from Jeff who is the owner of the company and after speaking with him I had a lot of hope we could resolve my issues. Jeff really seemed determined to resolve my issue and made a a real effort to make this work for me. I wanted to give Jeff and his company a chance since he really seemed sincere in his desire to have good customer service. I am very happy with the installation and solar panels that Jeff and his company installed. Its a bummer that my issues occurred, but I believe this is a good company to work with and hopefully the kinks are worked out for new customers. Yesterday my power went out in my house and it was 100 degrees outside. PGE came out and said it was a problem with the breaker the Solar Technologies (ST) installed. I called them and within an hour they called be back and scheduled Manny to come out. Manny determined it was not the breaker but a loose connection in the Panel that PGE missed. He fixed it and all is good now. Manny, thank you so much and also the great team at Solar Technologies. read more

We just completed our solar install and activation with Solar Technologies. We initially talked with Solar Technologies based on a recommendation from a friend who works for a panel manufacturer in the area. The initial consultation with easy. Our rep, Jason, showed up prepared to talk about how we might want to configure our system. He had reviewed our roof design in advance. From there, he developed a formal proposal that spelled out the expenses, potential rebates, and process. It was a competitive proposal so we went with Solar. At this point, Solar went off and developed plans, logged permits, ordered equipment etc - all things that happen in the background. It takes some time, so don't be alarmed if you don't hear from Solar for a bit. Once everything was ready, we got the install scheduled. The team arrived on time and finished the installation in 1 day. They were tidy, polite, and professional. We've had a lot of experience with contractors lately, and this simply was delightfully unexpected. After the installation, Solar Tech helped us navigate the activation process with PG&E. They made sure the system was up and running properly, and they even spent time talking with us about rebates to expect. If you're going solar, you need to talk with this organization. read more

We interviewed 3 companies and chose Solar Technologies. They weren't the least expensive but due to their ratings, the sales interview, and their product offering (SunPower) we chose them over their competition. Before providing details let me say that the installation was 1 year ago. It turns out that their estimate of power production after 1 year was perfect! Our true-up was a negative -$26 which meant we were not charged a dime for the annual PG&E true-up. Fantastic! This meant that we produced slightly more energy than we used after a year. The estimate was that our first year we'd produce 101%. Now for some other details. The sales interview showed integrity and the right amount of details. They were not into bashing the competition which is good. I'd rather hear about what makes them special and not about what makes others pathetic. The other companies we interviewed often put down the competition which is more of a negative sell with diversionary tactics. Moving on... We spent time discussing where the panels would be placed and where the new solar power power junction box would be installed. I wanted some changes and a special request. Appearance matters and I didn't want to see conduit and other boxes on the roof. I only want to see the solar panels. The solution was to hide the converters under the panels and send all the wiring through the attic. After careful examination of our attic they agreed to my design changes. Throughout this process they were patient with my questions and provided any data I requested. Once we finished the initial design then the work was scheduled. The first day of the scheduled work it was raining and the forecast didn't look good. This was not a problem. Two workers showed up and did prep work that didn't require any outside work. To complicate matters I also was working from home so power was important and disruption had to be kept to a minimum. They were very respectful and complied with my wishes. When we had a break in the rain a crew showed up and within hours all the panels were installed. There was a slight change as one of the panels didn't fit where they planned. They suggested moving that one panel and assured me that my production would not be impacted. I signed off on the change and they proceeded without delay. Once all the wires were attached and their initial testing complete then most of the crew left. By the way, the impact to my loss of power during this process was insignificant. Now it was time for my sign off. My sign off was a little delayed because of a weird electrical issue with my china cabinet inside the house. The lights kept turning on and off whenever the solar power box sent a signal. After a tremendous amount of effort on the part of Solar Technologies it was determined to be an issue with my inside wiring. They were correct! And I don't want to minimize the amount of effort involved on their part. They spent hours trying to figure out the problem and many different solutions were tried. They were patient and persistent. Finally, the end result was a very efficient and appealing design that has performed exactly as Solar Technologies estimated. I would not hesitate to use their services again. read more

We had been researching solar for a few years to see if it was the right fit for us both financially and usage wise. Nick at Solar Technologies gave us a detailed plan that met our needs. As the panels had to go on the front of our house, the design aesthetic was very important. They assessed how many panels were needed based on our historical electric usage. Solar Technologies took care of all the permitting, as well as communication and scheduling with our roofers. They were extremely professional and detail oriented. I hired Solar Technologies on December 28, 2018 to install solar panels and a Tesla backup battery system. No part of the project has been completed 17 months later. The start of every step of the project has been delayed for weeks or months. The company has blamed the Palo Alto permitting process. Then I was told that the company just has too much business to get around to my project. Escalations of the issues to the director of the sales team were unsuccessful. The solar panels were installed 8 months ago, but not connected. Don't hire this company. read more
