I brought our Sienna mini van in for a smog check, there was someone else getting a test, as soon as they were done, they had me pull in, about 10 minutes later, maybe even less they were done! Took about an hour after I got home for my certificate to show up on the dmv website, but that is probably on the CA DMV side and not South Bay Smog. read more

This is the only shop that had the test equipment for my older car. The very nice and helpful gentleman helped me pass the smog test (finally!). My car (1998 Pontiac Firebird) had initially passed all the emissions parts of the smog test but could not pass the computer data part due to a recent car battery change. He allowed me time to drive my car more to try build data history. Unfortunately, the car had ignition module issues that prevented the data from being recorded. I brought the car back after getting it repaired and he performed the smog test quickly. If you call first, he will let you know if he is currently busy or not. (Of course, there is a chance that another car may get there before you arrive.) He has chairs for waiting customers. It is a narrow entry way to the shop but, after the test, he is so nice to position your car to make it easy to drive out. I highly recommend SkySmog . Best price and best service ! read more

As of October 2016, it costs $51.75 for vehicles 1996 and newer, and $61.75 for vehicles 1995 and older. Vans are $71.75. Re-test $10.00 and Cost of Certificate is $8.25. Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express are accepted. The gentleman who owns and operates the shop is quiet, polite, courteous, hard-working and knows his stuff! If you have questions about smog or cars in general he has knowledge and great mechanical aptitude. It is a very simple "no frills" garage. The garage has a single smog station, a couple chairs so you can sit down while you wait and a basic counter for paperwork and payments. There is a sign on Hawthorne Blvd that reads "Sky Smog Test Only" amidst a few other signs of the other car shops in the same driveway area. I'll make this quick, like their service. Finding this smog shop will not be easy. - Locate the Enterprise sign. When you see it, slow down! - There will be a parking lot filled with other auto-body shops, turn into the drive way. - There will be a narrow pathway created by parked cars. Keep driving, and on the right side before completely reaching the back of the lot, VOILA! Sky Smog Test Only. One of two scenarios may happen. 1. There are no other customers and the one parking spot they may have is up for grabs. Service will take no more than 30 minutes and will cost $40. 2. There is a line and there will be no parking. Depending on the year of the car, it may cost more than $40 and service will take longer than 30 minutes. I would recommend this shop! My car is a 2009 Kia Rio and I paid $40 out the door without any problems. I understand that my experience may differ from previous customers but I hope that it may also be similar to future customers. The man working the shop isn't the friendliest. He is there to do his job and provide good service. Bring a book or be sure your phone is fully charged because he will be too busy checking the smog from your car. read more

Great service! I pulled up in my 1995 Dodge Neon just as the last customer was pulling out. The owner greeted me and was impressed with the good condition of my car. He got started on the paperwork immediately and efficiently got started on the testing. He completed the test in about 20 minutes and was even impressed with the results - saying my 24 year old car passed with flying colors! Yea! :-) Price for the test was $60 which was very good considering that 1995 and older vehicles usually cost around $80 at other smog test stations! Excellent experience, honest, great customer service. I highly recommend Sky Smog. Stan is the man! This is a bit of a long story but I'll give the abridged version. Went to go get my smog check for my 2005 vehicle. When I went I had a check engine light on, which I knew was for my fuel level sensor and would not affect anything regarding emissions. When Stan plugged my car into the computer, he immediately noticed that this light was on and no matter if it was anything emissions-related or not, my car would be an automatic fail. He didn't go through the whole testing cycle, as I would not have passed, and he didn't charge me for his time. I asked him if I was able to have the light reset and came back if he thought it would pass. He explained to me that it might but I would need to go through a couple drive cycles. So, I took my car to my regular mechanic and he was able to reset the check engine light. I went through several drive cycles ad returned to Stan. Still didn't pass. I ended up going four times and I was not able to pass any of the times. I finally went back to my mechanic and had the fuel level sensor replaced. I went through a couple more drive cycles, took it to Stan, and passed! As many times as I went in there, he only charged me his regular smog check and certificate fee, a total of $50. I appreciate that Stan put the customer first. He was very good at explaining things to me and did not take advantage of me, when that could have been very easy. I just recently shipped my 2012 honda civic from Boston to California and need to get smog test before I can register here. I asked my honda dealership how much to get tested there and they quoted me $120, so I was like ok I'll look somewhere else. Very happy with my experience here- he is very nice and does the check quickly as others have mentioned. I personally ended up having issues with my car not passing the computer portion of the test- the readiness indicators. He said that was unusual for my type of car (and it's only a 2004), so he suggested various things, I brought it back a couple times after trying those out and it still wasn't passing. So at that point, I brought it to the dealer, and it turns out my battery was starting to fail, so the computer was resetting every 50 miles and that's why it wasn't passing. So I got the new battery, and went back and it finally passed. Throughout this whole process, he was very nice, explained how baffled he was by the issue and how the whole process works. He still just charged for the initial check $41.75, and the last visit (when it passed) another $8.25 for the certificate. When you're coming south on Hawthorne, take the entrance right after the Enterprise, and he's in the back on the right. Most times, there were one or two people ahead of me, but it went very quickly. read more
