Very happy with my experience here- he is very nice and does the check quickly as others have mentioned. I personally ended up having issues with my car not passing the computer portion of the test- the readiness indicators. He said that was unusual for my type of car (and it's only a 2004), so he suggested various things, I brought it back a couple times after trying those out and it still wasn't passing. So at that point, I brought it to the dealer, and it turns out my battery was starting to fail, so the computer was resetting every 50 miles and that's why it wasn't passing. So I got the new battery, and went back and it finally passed. Throughout this whole process, he was very nice, explained how baffled he was by the issue and how the whole process works. He still just charged for the initial check $41.75, and the last visit (when it passed) another $8.25 for the certificate. When you're coming south on Hawthorne, take the entrance right after the Enterprise, and he's in the back on the right. Most times, there were one or two people ahead of me, but it went very quickly. read more

When you enter, it's all the way down and to the right. It's a pretty crammed location because of other auto services nearby but they'll make room for your car. Everyone was very friendly and helpful to me when I looked confused as to where to put my car lol. Always quick, easy, and a good price. I have had 4 vehicles smog tested here and always had a good experience. There is only the owner working there from the times I have visited, but he is very efficient and will help you as soon as possible. I have never had to wait for more than maybe 20 minutes until they have tested my vehicle. I have never made an appointment just drive in, bar have sometimes to called ahead and ask if there is a long wait and there has never been. They accept visa and cash. To get to the shop you have to drive through the large gate and his shop is on the right. I don't think it is associated with the collision shop that shares the same parking lot. It looks busy but I can usually find a spot to park right next to the smog shop. read more

Very straightforward, which is what I want for a smog check. I called to make sure they weren't too busy, drove in. The owner/operator was very professional, explained that it would take about 10 mins and that the results, which he has no control of, are automatically relayed to the DMV system. He started the test, I filled out the paperwork, and shortly thereafter the testing was complete. The only challenge is seeing it from Hawthorne blvd is impossible so you have to drive in to a "multi business car area" where it's not clear you're there...until you're there. Highly recommend this Star station smog service! A family owned business, I was in and out in record time at a very reasonable price. I found a $10 coupon online, so the total price with all the required DMV paperwork was $41.75. The gentleman testing my car wore a mask and gloves. Easy to find on Hawthorne Blvd., southbound, just after Spencer, you pass an Enterprise rent a car and turn right in the next driveway where you will find two car related buildings. I showed up with a coupon from a different company and asked if he could match it. He said no, so I gave him the $10 couple I printed out specifically for his location. They recognized the car from the appointment description and had it hooked up in another five minutes - most of which was taken up finishing the car they were already working on. The fellow there was of few words, but very nice and got to work right away. There was no wait for me, which was convenient. Came in on a Saturday knowing it would probably be crowded, and it was. The whole alley area where this place is located is super jammed with cars, so upon arriving it was very confusing for me to know where to go. However, the technician (a man of few words, so I didnt catch his name) waved me over right away and told me where to go. Waiting area is just a few chairs, but the wait was super short. There were 2 people in front of me, both very sociable, so even though I was sitting for a half hour, it was entertaining enough. Passed with flying colors. No frills, no tricks, good price. Very quick (15min/car max.) especially if there aren't a few people in front of you already. And most importantly, I felt respected in an automotive establishment, which can be a rare find for a girl in her early 20s. read more

Found this place on yelp and decided to choose it based on customer reviews and the $10 coupon they offered. I called ahead to see if I needed an apt, which I did not and was told there would be no wait. It is a bit hard to find - its way in the back next to the Enterprise Rental car and an Autobody/Collision shop. I was literally in and out in less than 20 min! Probably less time to be honest. The owner was friendly and helpful and said he'd send in my smog report to the DMV. Very tiny waiting area and the surrounding area is pretty crowded and cluttered with other cars from the autobody shop but it didn't matter as I only paid $40 total for my smog check and was in and out very quickly! read more
