It's been about 30 years since my first Skyline visit. My stepdad is from Cincy, so when I was in Cleveland, he said I must try it. Can't recall which way I had it, but chill over pasta for me does not work. In town and figured we hit this place to see what I am missing. The answer: Not this place. My coworker is a local and somewhat guided me through the options. Decided to get two weiners and the chili fries. The mound of cheap shredded cheddar does not improve the taste, but sure looks good. The wieners seemed to be overcooked or just "aged" from sitting in the holding bin. The fries were actually good and if I find myself with a taste for Skyline, it's the only thing I am ordering. My personal taste is for a much richer, chunkier TX style chili. This watered down semi flavorless concoction must be a local thing. read more

When you go to New York, you have pizza. In Maryland, you get crab cakes. In Boston, a lobster roll. In the Cincinnati area, you get yourself a bowl of Cincinnati-style chili. And no, it doesn't matter if it's 90 degrees outside. It's chili. Skyline is the biggest purveyor of Cincinnati-style chili, which is rather different than the chili you might find in Texas. Of course, no beans. And this stuff has more cinnamon and nutmeg than you might expect. It's a totally different flavor. I stopped in for my chili and had it as a "two-way" with only chili and cheese. A huge pile of shredded cheddar and no beans or pasta or even a coney. Just chili. It was quite good and exactly what I remembered from the last time I was here. The girl who served me was happy for the business and attentive. The restaurant was reasonably clean with two tables needing to be cleared but no trash on the floor or in the parking area. The open kitchen looked clean. Good stuff and I enjoyed. Not at this place. When you come here you'll feel like you just robbed the Fort Knox of cheese supplies! When in Rome, right? We're road trippers and part of our adventures always include local flavors. Last time through OH we ate at another chili chain, so this trip it was Skyline. Delicious! It came out fast and our server was super friendly and interactive. I could easily have devoured ten of the Coneys. The food wasn't super hot, though, so I'm rating four stars. read more

I have eaten at this Skyline Chili many times over the last 10 years. Not only is this my first check in, but it is the first time I have had any appearance of issues. I say that because my only issue was having to look around and find the waitstaff to fill my water drink even though I was sitting at the bar and everyone one was walking past and my take away cup was empty and I had the lid off to indicate it was empty. I enjoy eating the "Soup Sandwich" Chili Cheese sandwich with mustard and onion. I really enjoy my food here. I will be back and will not let the one time and a lack of fast refills bother me. I would still only give them 4 stars, because even though I enjoy eating here I only come 1 time a month or so as it isn't my favorite place, but the food is good. read more

Always a big fan of Cincinnati chili. Like gold star but you can't beat Skyline either. Had the basics bowl of chili and chili cheese fries. The portions are good and the service was great. I know it's a short review but not much more you can say. If you want a quick chili fix Skyline is a good place to stop. read more

As far as Skyline's go, this one is great. Typically clean, food is consistent, service has never been a problem and you're in and out in no time at all. There's really not much to say about this location. It's good. It's as good as a Skyline gets. I've been going for years and I visit at least once a month, if not more. The servers are usually younger girls that do not have attitude and they get their job done. Almost like they are on autopilot, it's that consistent. The food - It's Skyline. I like the Chili Burrito Deluxe. I don't even look at the menu. Sometimes it can be busy but we've never had to wait for a seat. Would I go back? Yes. I visit quite frequently. read more

So word on the street is that people from Cincinnati LOVE Skyline. Also, apparently it's a right of Osage to eat skyline when you visit Cincinnati. I'd like to put a fork in that tradition. The service was lovely. Like, five stars, and that still doesn't make up for this watery awful crap they call chili. Five stars also to the wonderful people I enjoyed lunch with. My company was a solid win. But negative nine stars for the chili. That, my friends, is basic math. If you HAVE to eat here. Get a potato with cheese and sour cream. Or, like, a salad. You know about Skyline, so I won't discuss the food. It's the same as all the others, but it's better. The food just tastes better. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I enjoy it more than other locations. It's worth it to drive here versus the others in the area. The food is better, the service is awesome, and it's very clean. Just remind me next time that while I will eat the entire LARGE 4-way, I should order the medium. read more

Was really impressed with the set-up and cleanliness of this Skyline location. Had never been in it before but had driven by it a bunch. You can't really tell from the outside how nice and spacious it is inside..but it is! We arrived pretty close to close on a Saturday night and it was refreshing that the staff didn't seem to mind (we got there at like 9:15 when they close at 10..not like we got there at 9:45..we're not complete a-holes). The food here was up to par with most other locations. I ordered my go-to of two cheese coney's and an order of cheese fries using the "hot cheese". Everything was as good as it always is. Now that I know how nice this location is I might have to stop by more often. While I wouldn't go so far as to say Skyline is a five star restaurant, but between the really pleasant staff, the excellent set-up for the place, and the quality of the food, I would say this location deserves it. As was said in another review, this location is very clean for a skyline. The service was prompt even though it had been the Wednesday before thanksgiving the last time we went. We were a group of 11 or 12 and actually funny story - our first waiter quit after taking our drink order! LOL! Understandable. I got what I usually get - a medium four-way (with onions). The cheese is always a pile on top but just trust me and take it the way they give it. Sometimes I do get a smaller size and a coney but it just depends on how hungry I am/if a chili dog is sounding great that day. However, you can't go wrong at skyline so enjoy. read more

The Cincinnati Dayton location is THE WORST Skyline I have ever been to. The location was filthy. There were two tables in use pretty much all the other tables were dirty. The floor was dirty. The bathrooms were horrible. The service was marginal. One girl was bagging cheese with her bare hands. There is an indescribable smell. Now for the food. There is a sprinkle of cheese on the three way and dogs. The chili was almost 100% liquid like they just scoop from the top. Now for the best part of all, walking past several time was a guy with a trainer shirt on. If this is what they are training look for it to get worse. This is the Cincinnati institution that I think of when I remember my time in Cinci. I love a 4 way with onions (LOVED that they started coming out with a Small version--Skyline does not "to go" very well), and I can get one of those with 2 or 3 cheese coneys with everything. I love it. With a root beer? This is the best way to spend $10 in this whole town. I was in town for a wedding and I ate at a Skyline 2x a day for the whole weekend. I love it. If I get it in the drive through, I sit in the parking lot and eat it to preserve the goodness. The mustard is what really does it, I think. I refuse to eat a "coney" anywhere else...I know that Skyline is be my standard and I will be disappointed. read more

Feelin' good and hungry? It's Skyline Time! I never crave Skyline until I can't have it...like when I'm boarding a plane from Cincinnati to California, for example. It's kinda a pain. As many reviewers have already noted; Skyline is not traditional chili. It's much more of a meat "sauce" than a chili as the topping is so thin. For a product that combines ground beef, cinnamon, and chili powder, it's pretty remarkable...I don't care who you are or where you're from. Get it in a three-way, on top of spaghetti and covered with cheese. Make sure you dump your three-way from the little plate to the larger plate, it's the way real Skyliners do it. Also, top it off with crumbled oyster crackers and you won't look like a tourist. I love Skyline's chili but I do understand that there are those who don't...this doesn't mean that you can't eat at Skyline! Try the Greek Salad, which includes feta cheese, spinach, onions, and peppers with Skyline's homemade greek dressing. It's delicious! During Lent, I go to Skyline and order the Black Beans and Rice. The Black Beans are prepared like a soup and they are super spicy, you need all the sour cream they give you to cool it off. I usually ask for a side of cheese too, it makes for a Southwestern treat. Diners who aren't fans of the chili can also order plain hot dogs or plain spaghetti with cheese on top...these dishes seem to be favored by little kids who have yet to grow into their Chili stage (it is an acquired taste). The drive-through at this particular location is always quick and the servers are always friendly. It's always spectacularly clean, too! read more

I have tried Skyline Chili twice now and it's really not that good. The first time was underwhelming and the second time was, well, umm underwhelming. This location is clean and friendly I must say. Skyline's (pronounced ska LEEN ees), you either love it or hate it. I agree they are slow here. It's the neighborhood. The kids here don't know how to hurry unless they are on the sports field! ;-) Average for Skyline, portion size is inconsistent. First, waiter was extremely friendly and got us crackers and drinks right away. And it took mere minutes to get our food. And right there is the only positives of this review. I've eaten at many, many Skylines and i know when the food is good and when it's not. I got a classic chicken wrap and my son got a chillito. My wrap was huge, too big to fit in my mouth, unfortunately it was packed full of lettuce with very little else. I took out quite a bit and the lettuce covered my plate! As soon as my son picked up his chillito, which was smaller than most, the chili began leaking out the side. He got crafty and shoved crackers in to stop the leak. Our waiter seemed to be the only one, and we had to wait some time for a refill. When I went to pay, I had no less than three people walk past the cash register and do nothing. Come to find out the "cashier" was standing off to the side and when she finally got off the phone she told me, I'll be with you in a minute. Once I payed she had a hard time even saying thank you. Lol. Saw a lot of young workers, maybe they need a grown up around to keep things working right. I feel like I have to review Skyline at least once. I've always liked Skyline, but have never been over-the-moon enthusiastic about it. It's something different and it's a staple in the Cincinnati area. The chili is thin and sweet, served over spaghetti noodles and topped with copious amounts of cheese. Since going vegetarian, I've still been able to eat at Skyline because they offer pretty decent vegetarian options. They have vegetarian 3-ways, which have black beans instead of chili. It's like a bean chili, so it's a decent replacement. However, they recently changed the menu to have only black beans AND rice, so now I usually just get a bowl of black beans and rice since it seems crazy to get black beans and rice and then put rice over pasta (right?). I also get their greek salad, which is alright considering the produce isn't the greatest. It's a fine place, but it's not one of my favorites. read more
