We just returned from a long weekend at SkyTop and are already planning our return. Everyone at SkyTop went out of their way to accommodate and make our stay pleasant. While the weather was a bit crazy with snow in April, there was still plenty to do and the hikes were amazingly beautiful. Hiked with Rick were incredible- he is knowledgeable, funny, personable and makes every hike interesting. We also met several wonderful families who we are keeping in touch with. Being a newly widowed mom of two, SkyTop made my first trip without my husband easier than expected. While we missed my husband tremendously, we are grateful to Rock, George, Angie, Robert, Stephanie and all the other wonderful people at SkyTop who befriended us. read more

Resort is beautiful with wonderful staff and great accommodations but the food was terrible. Breakfast was served on ice cold plates in a cold room and all menus were very limited with no imagination. Food is such an important part of any vacation and was a real downer for our stay. read more

Dining at the Skytop Lodge was an experience I will never forget. We pulled in on a dreary Sunday morning just in time to catch a brunch feast beyond my wildest dreams. This is saying a lot as there was no alcohol included and I currently live in New York City. 10/10 would rent a car and drive back just for the peach pie. Shout out to Kamila for the exceptional service, Donte for slicing perfect ham for my sandwich, and everyone on staff for subtly supporting our gluttony. This is a gorgeous estate. My husband and I arrived Friday evening and our friends came the next day. One thing that I didn't like was that the main dining area was in the lodge, which meant if your in the inn you would have to travel to get breakfast. Food was overall pretty good. We had a incident at dinner (Windsor restaurant) but it was address quickly and appropriately. Ohhhh and the best waiter there was Fernando he was the highlight of our dinner! He was entertaining and you can tell he genuinely loves his job. Had burgers and lemonade at the tap room, burgers were good but lemonade was very watered down. Check is at 4 pm but most activities are earlier in the day. So if you go for one night. Try to get there before check in. The beds were nice but the mattress slump down when you sat on it. However, I slept comfortably, others felt differently. We did ax throwing which was fun. Would definitely go back with my children and stay at the lodge due to accessibility. read more

Horrible! Would never come here again! Brought a group of wounded combat veterans for the week. Skytop went out of its way to make them feel unwelcome and uncared for. It's very unfortunate, such a great historic site and beautiful scenery seemed to be an ideal setting for this retreat. Was VERY disappointed. Never have been treated this badly before. read more

Although it's been a while, I've been coming to Skytop since I was a kid. This is one of the few grand old Pocono resort hotels that is still standing. It is a living example and reminder of a different, much slower, much more human world. If that sounds appealing to you, then you will love Skytop. If you want to impress people, see celebrities, or be reminded of your own alleged importance, you would probably enjoy somewhere else more. First of all, this is a place that is all about outdoor activities. There is a terrific golf course, tennis, a trout stream, miles of trails and incredible scenery. It is also a very quiet place. It's on a mountain estate deep in the Poconos, and if your idea of a good time is shopping, there's nothing like that here. The place was built during a time when people would have to do some serious, hard traveling to get here, and once here, would stay for weeks. It is genteel, understated, elegant and above all, genuine. This isn't a Ralph Lauren recreation -- this is the real deal. The Lodge is magnificent -- the library is one of my favorite rooms on earh. The food is great, and I particularly recommend breakfast in the Windsor Room. White linen tablecloths, great food, and a view of the gardens. Skytop is an absolute treasure, and one of my favorite places to stay anywhere, ever. If quiet, elegant, classic and low-key are your thing, you will love this place as much as I do. read more

As umpteen reviewers have said before me, this place is a mixed bag. The reason why I cannot go above one star is the price, it is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE (easily by a factor 2.5) for what it offers. Pros: Great grounds, lots of activities and lots of fun if you are going there with kids. Cons: 1) The pictures from the lodge website and elsewhere are misleading. The fact of the matter is it looks great when you drive up to it as you can make out from the pictures on the internet but thats where its awesomeness ends. 2) The folks at the desk were rude and looked disinterested. 3) We were initially booked into a room which is about 100 sq feet (slightly larger than a walk in closet) and when we expressed shock and anger about the fact that for $300 a night that is what we were going to get, they did move us to a bigger room but the fact of the matter stays that they should NEVER have booked us in such a closet passing for a room to start with. 4) The "bigger" room was nothing to write home about. In the name of "heritage", the furniture in the room was what you would expect at any Goodwill outlet. The TV as not any better (it was a 20" from the 70's). The water pressure in the bathroom was consistently enough to wash half your toes with. The bathroom itself was dated and the hot water took about 5 minutes to show up. 5) The food was mediocre and moderately expensive and to make matters worse, there is no restaurant for about 50 square miles. The mandatory dinner jacket which other reviewers have referred to is as annoying as the smelly upholstery in the elevator which by the way is the slowest elevator in existence (I am not sure if that is a recorded fact). 6) "Included wifi" is a joke honestly and should remind you of the dial up connections of the early 90's if you are old enough to have experienced that. Overall, this place needs to be priced at BEST at a $125 a night and not a penny more and that is being really generous. read more

Do not waste your money at the Skytop lodge spa. $85 for a mani/pedi done by a "cosmetologist" who told me she never does nails. And I could tell because it looked like a child did my mani/pedi. Ragged cuticles, sloppy nail polish job. I had to complain and ask for my money back. read more

Hotel was beautiful and historic. Staff was friendly and welcoming. However went down to the pub to get a drink and saw Fox News was on tv and turned right back around and ate at the restaurant down the street. We took a vacation to get away from all the news craziness to just find it right back in front of our faces - Fox News being worst of all. read more

My stay at the Skytop Lodge was a surprise get away that I was far away from ready or prepared for. This lodge was built in 1927. Very classic and literary somehow takes you back to 1927 with its architecture and the breathtaking gardens. Staff was very friendly, accommodating and attentive. The lodge has an adventure center that arranges a wide range of activities to explore and enjoy. I went on a flat trail hike around the mountain lake with flip flops on! ( unprepared remember?!). The scenery was amazing and the experience was very relaxing and peaceful. A few things I suggest the lodge management/ owner should improve or work on: First, we stayed at the executive suit which I found to be very outdated furniture and linens wise, and was my least favorite part of the experience. Second, the gift shop. Since it is a destination lodge & I desperately needed a hiking shoes, I was expecting and hoping to find one at the gift shop or any closed toe shoes beside my flip flops, they sure have nothing of that nature, with very limited retail items. And again, keep in mind the closest store is Walmart and is 40 mins away! But overall I loved the experience and you need at least 3 days to enjoy this beautiful place. Horribly expensive for what it is. Great property nice people but unless you get in for pennies on the dollar, run the other direction. Dinner at the pub 125 bux with 3 kids meals. Dirty. Aged. But great people on staff. Come with your Sunday clothes. There is a dress code....so if you don't like dressing up you'll eat I the basement. Pretentious is a word that comes to mind. We had a suite for 400 bux, discounted from 600. Suite had no coffee service, microwave nor mini fridge but it had a 12 inch tv. Other than that is was a suite.. read more

I just returned from a weekend away at Skytop lodge. We stayed at the Inn, enjoyed some wonderful, challenging golf and beautiful grounds and scenery. The grounds are kept immaculate. Very impressive. I wouod have thought the course would have been a bit better maintained but I wasn't disappointed with the course overall. The hotel was a different story though. The accommodations were dated, and only slightly better than a Howard Johnsons. For the price it was grossly under impressive and aged. Not charming antique. Just dirty and old... like 1984 old and not paid attention to since it's last renovations several decades ago. The food, that was included the the play and stay package, was catering hall typical crap on a plate. Our room in the lodge was directly under a wedding that shared the bass of their music with us until well after we went to bed as we had an early tee time Sunday morning. On a good note, most of the staff were delightful in person. Kind and personable. The only negative interaction I had was making reservations online. Several times I sent emails trying to make reservations via email and the reservations were never acknowledged. This was frustrating. Yes the grounds are quite beautiful! BUT this place rooks you a little bit! I am not sure it is worth the price! I stayed there with my boyfriend this week for a night. Here is the thing. I originally thought I was getting a room for $179.... turns out the cost come to about $223 when you get there by adding tax AND A resort facility fee. I would not have minded that fee if it was the only fee to pay to use the resort facilities! Fact is the only thing you do there for FREE is go to the beach and maybe play the outdoor bowling. Every activity there involves additional fees which was really frustrated. With the amount you already pay to stay there they can at least offer free kayaking or something like that. Another huge misconception is the 'continental breakfast'! DO NOT BE MISTAKEN... this is not a a real continental breakfast. This is coffee, tea, and maybe a pastry or something early in the morning..... on a small try outside the banquet hall where the rich people were dinning. Let me repeat, this was NOT a continental breakfast, and I was very frustrated that they advertised it as such. The only other place to get breakfast around there was somewhere in the town, or in the fancy banquet hall which was too expensive for this young couple. I got really frustrated with the way they advertised that. DO NOT BE FOOLED! The room was clean, but in noway nicely updated for the price. Be careful because there are tons of animals and skunks around the property at night, which limited amount of lighting to walk around. We were walking to our room in the dark and someone next to us got skunked... there was a ton of skunks! read more

Great place to stay. Family friendly. Beautiful hotel, gorgeous grounds, lots of nature and scenic views. The staff was super accommodating. My wife and son have food allergies and with no hesitation did anyone fail to go out of their way to accommodate! Food was delicious at the Tap room and the breakfast buffet in the Windsor was amazing. Lots of things to do to keep you busy throughout the day. Arcade games, ping pong, indoor swimming pool, skiing, ice skating, snow tubbing... tons of stuff. For adults, make sure you visit Joseph at the library lounge. he's pretty cool!! ; ) over all this is a place I would visit again and recommend. read more

*From a person hired to do a wedding here* The worst experience I've ever had at any of the 200 and some weddings I do a year. My husband and I both own a photography company and we do wedding photography and videography. Tonight we happened to be doing videography. When it came time to serving dinner, the DJs and photographer got served an hour before us and when I asked where ours was, they said that we could only have 1 meal because I was not on the list. The list states that "Our company" was attending, not just 1 person. So the matradee came to me with A BILL to pay! Excuse me, but I've never had to pay for me to eat at a wedding I am HIRED at in my whole career. The she said "fine, I'm charging it to the bride!" Most weddings allow the vendors to have a beer so my husband went up to the bar to get one and she yelled at him. Maybe if you have a rule like that, you should inform your bartenders not to serve the photographers, ect. She was very very rude to me and almost got to a point of yelling at me when all I'm trying to do is get my husband's meal quickly so that he won't miss any shots and activities! We ate an hour and a half after the other vendors! Ridiculous service. We got treated like rats. The food, we might as well be rats for the size portion we got. I felt like I could eat 3 of those plates and still have room left over and I'm 110 pounds! The venue was late for everything and the bride and groom only have till 10pm to party so the venue made them drop the garter and bouquet out of the routine. Beautiful grounds but the rooms are slightly dingy, there was marker on the wall paper as if someone wrote their name and they never bothered cleaning it. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet with a beautiful view out the window. I would go back for leisure. read more

My boyfriend booked this hotel for a nice getaway. This weekend has been a comedy of errors. Horrible food, dirty carpets, dated rooms and no one really seems to care! My husband and I on a whim booked this place last minute to celebrate our anniversary. We are so glad that we did! What a spectacular place that has maintained it's old world charm. The lodge, the setting, the service and all of the endless activities were all top notch. We also ate at the Windsor Dining Room within the lodge, and yes, it is a bit pricey, but the service and food were amazing!! Really.. Can't say enough positive things. We booked this stay in conjunction with a ski lesson deal for me from travelzoo... $199 for a one night stay in a classic queen room including breakfast and lift tickets. My $39 ski lesson voucher included a 50 minute lesson, equipment rental, and lift ticket. My first time downhill skiing was fantastic at Skytop. I ended up getting a private lesson since no one else was booked at my time (as I'd hoped since it was midday on a Monday!). My boyfriend- an avid skier who regularly skis in Colorado- was with me as well as another couple with similar levels of experience. The mountain was nearly empty both Monday and Tuesday allowing us to feel as if it was all our own! Truly a perfect place to learn for me as an adult. Only two runs were open Monday, but two more higher up were opened Tuesday making it more enjoyable for the men (though experienced as they are, they still enjoyed just being out on a mountain and made their own adventure by hiking up and carving their own trails down once or twice- easy to do on an empty hill!). The tow lifts were fun and easy, and the staff was friendly and kind. The lodge itself was just what we were expecting based on other reviews and weird of mouth- a little outdated but charming and comfortable. Our room was small but not tiny, the bed was comfortable, the shower warm and with enough pressure. Tea time in the lobby had the most delicious oatmeal raisin cookies and the breakfast buffet included in our deal was plentiful and fresh. The pub downstairs was not quite excellent- only bottled beers but no list of what's available. The food was good but the menu short. Certainly not a bad lunch, but couldn't been better. The pool and hot tub were a nice way to warm up after the slopes. Be warned though- you'll need to bring appropriate clothes to change into afterwards because their policy doesn't allow you walking around in bathing suits and towels. The pool is a great size, but too warm for exercise lap swimming. We were also disappointed that it closed at 6pm (especially since it's swim-at-your-own-risk)- an evening dip would have been wonderful. A large group event had the ice skating rink all Monday evening... I had been about to grab my skates to join them when they began clearing out to start a broomball game, so I never did get on the ice. The s'mores at the campfire were lovely though, and dinner off site at a nearby bar (The Pour House) quite enjoyable. The observation tower used in WWII offered an incredible view of the area- stunning stars over training lights of nearby ski shows at night, and colorful mountains in the distance in daylight. Along with the early pool closing time, the biggest complaint was the terrible wifi connectivity. As much as I love being disconnected to relax on vacation, having at least a public area of high speed internet is needed. Also, I should note that our bill showed the travelzoo price included in the total. The front desk staff happily removed it immediately when I brought it to their attention, but it did preclude us from being able to do the express check out (not that we needed to, but others might...) of simply signing the bill and dropping it off with the keys. As someone else has written, double check the printed bill! Overall it was a really great mini ski getaway that we'd love to repeat! Would also love to come in the summer to take advantage of the many other activities available... we'll definitely be looking for vouchers and deals in the future! read more

My boyfriend and I stayed the night here Thursday-Friday. The resort is absolutely beautiful, the staff is friendly and we had a very relaxing time. My only complaint was the food. We were looking forward to dinner at The Tap Room after a long day of hiking, but the menu read like an elementary school cafeteria. We stayed for one drink and then drove 30 minutes to the jubilee for some real food. In the morning we tried the breakfast buffet, which was bad even for a buffet. Fresh fruit and a good selection but the hot items were flavorless. We'll be back for the ambience but won't even bother eating here. read more

This is such an awesome place to visit and relax. My wife and I have been here twice and both times super impressed with the friendliness of the staff and how comfortable and welcome we felt. The food at the Windsor Dining Room is exceptional and there is no reason to leave the property to find a good meal as they have several options for breakfast/lunch/dinner. The area surrounding the lodge is beautiful and there are several trails to hike, even in December. Highly recommend coming here around or during Christmas since they put so much effort in to decorating for the holidays. read more

Overall this place is super nice..nice rooms..nice bathrooms...lots of activities...the only downsides are that they don't really have a place where you can buy snacks or personal items if needed late at night...the vending machines need updating and assortment...and DO NOT EAT at the Tea Room...a group of 8 of us went there for lunch...I personally couldn't stomach the smell of the place so I didn't eat but the other 7 individuals did and 4 out of the 7 ended up sick for the rest of the day. read more

They do over charge, and add a lot of service fees. There are extreme fluctuations in pricing, everyone is paying something different, and some get meals, some not. You are paying for the upkeep of the grounds and golf course. So if you do not golf or tennis it is not worth the cost. They are not as busy as they use to be. Everyone says food is bland, very expensive. Some of the smaller inns are less for the room, have great restaurants and food and offer a fabulous breakfast, everything you can think of. But they may only have an outdoor pool with tennis. read more

Best of the Poconos. It's simply a great family resort with tons of activities, beautiful grounds and an experience you can't get at chain hotels. Best bests: Go on one of the guided nature hikes, which are not boring but truly amazing and beautiful. Teatime in the grand room with a real roaring fire. Everyone puts down their phones and just sits and relaxes. Bingo and the horses - yes, bingo. It's a family tradition that actually brings people together to do something at night beside watch TV. read more

We recently spent one night at Skytop Lodge and we will definitely go back. It is a quaint, old lodge set on top of a hill in the beautiful, Pocono mountains! The grounds are lovely, with beautiful gardens and breathtaking views. We selected the unlimited golf package and we enjoyed our round of golf. The course was in great shape with several challenging holes! I only gave it 4 stars because our room was very small and the bathroom was so tiny you could barely turn around in it! But it was very clean, recently updated, the bed was very comfortable and linens seemed high quality! I had told the staff when we checked in that it was our anniversary and they put rose petals in the shape of a heart on our bed. Very nice and unexpected! The food was good, lots of options. We recently spent 5 days/4 nights at Skytop. We stayed in the Lodge. The room was very nice, clean and large. The housekeeping staff was friendly and quick to get the room ready everyday. Many activities were offered to keep you busy. We enjoyed the hiking trails and activity center and then relaxing in the rocking chairs. The 4:00 cookies were a welcomed treat everyday. Many of the staff member are international students. They are very friendly and helpful. Bergen at the Activity Center has great people skills and was very fun. She made our game of Archery Tag and our rock climbing more enjoyable. Jake from the tree top adventure was knowledgeable and helpful. My criticisms: -Heat the outdoor pool -it is a bit presumptuous to add a gratuity to every purchase, even a cup of coffee -activities are too expensive for what they are read more

In regards to the staff and the grounds, outstanding. Our waiter Kelly was great and Maria did a superb job with our room. All in all, everyone on the grounds were friendly. The grounds are amaxing. Plenty of things to do for all ages. Including golf, volleyball, horseshoes, fishing, boating and the list goes on and on. Also, we really did enjoy the food. In regards to the owners/managers, I was not pleased at all with their poor judgement. We stayed the week of labor day and purchased the deal that they placed on Travelzoo. It mentioned everything above plus beach access (weather permitting), coffee shops etc...However, they decided to shut these areas down due to (we were told) the amount of people at the hotel. Really? Well, this is false advertisement. We were a large group and I would believe just our 3 rooms would have "paid" for the beach to be open. Btw, all week the weather was warm and dry...Coffee shop being closed was also sad. The place was not empty. Yes, it did not have 500 rooms booked but we did pay for our stay and should have been able to enjoy the beach, coffee (ice cream) shop etc...I guess the bottom line is that the owners/managers see everything in their own selfish way...Which does not include the customer. Would I stay again? Yes but only after I have in writing what is expected to be open when i visit. read more

Recently Stayed Skytop Lodge for 5 nights. Place was wonderful. Things to do for all ages. Actives all day long and friendly, helpful staff. Although the main dining room was being renovated we had great meal choices. The Lakeview Restaurant was amazing. Seems to be a new young chef, fabulous food ideas. You may think it's a limited menu, but try everything! Food was creative and delicious. Desserts, unbelievable. We come from Manhattan, So trust this recommendation! Go! read more

Great resort, as I have been coming up for years, although I am very disappointed at the changed menu at the Tea Room. Now, the Tea Room serves purely hot dogs and two types of salads. For my sister, who is a vegetarian, practically the only thing she is able to eat is a hot pretzel. My family and I were looking forward to the famous Grilled Cheese and are very disappointed at the change made to the menu. read more

Out of all the places my wife and I have visited on vacation we found this to be by far the most regal. It si a little pricey...but certainly a class act. We stayed in the smaller of the two lodges and ventured over to the main lodge for meals. I wish we could have afforded to stay longer than just the long weekend we had stayed. We try alot of places for the variety; some good, others maybe less so. This is by far the most classy place we have tried, and definately plan a return trip...which for us is rare! Sky top comes highly recommended by the two of us. Besides- any nicer/more expensive and we it would certainly be out of our price range. @ $500 a night it's already pushing it! But- well worth the luxury of splurging if only every now and again. read more

FALSE ADVERTISING. Their website says that rentals and property can be used by anyone, but when you go there and ask for a bike rental, they will tell you no because you are not staying at the lodge. You also cannot hike here too. Complete waste of time coming here. Had I known this, I could have avoided going out of my way to spend time here. read more

We were at Skytop for Labor Day weekend. We were a group of 3 couples (family) and stayed in the Stream Side Cottages. * The hotel staff was excellent. They were always courteous and very happy to help! * The Stream Side Cottages were perfect for our group. The decks were very comfortable and we were able to enjoy watching the deer in the field together. We also opened our adjoining doors which added to the family atmosphere. * The robes in the Stream Side Cottages were the nicest robes I've ever enjoyed in a hotel. * Everyone had something to do because the activities offered by the lodge were varied. * We especially enjoyed the hiking trails. They were very well marked and the most difficult trails had ropes to assist in the climbs. * The shuttle service worked out very well for us. We used it to get around the property. * The best meal of the day was breakfast. The buffet was wonderful. * Milkshakes are incredible!!! Drawbacks: * Dinner in the Winsor Dining Room and The Lakeview Restaurant was just not good, and is expensive. * The service in the Windsor dining room and The Taproom Restaurant was very friendly, but very slow. * We would have liked room service for breakfast and when we were relaxing on the deck. * The paper products in the Stream Side Cottages are terrible. The rooms are not inexpensive, but the toilet paper and tissue are worse than you would find in an airport! * The layout of the cottage room was very strange. The TV was very high and not in a position that made it easy to watch. In addition, getting in and out of bed on the right side was difficult because there was very little room to walk (no room for a night stand). I bruised my arm in the middle of the night when getting out of bed. It made us wonder if the architect and the interior designer of the room spoke with each other when the cottages were being built. I have been coming here for 4 years in a row and I have never experienced this type of getaway. Everything is great. The one thing I haven't tried is the fine dining, but I will try next year. I did tennis lessons, skeet shooting, the lake, the pool, the Tap Room, the snack bar, the arcade (bring back the Pinball games!). I highly recommend this place to anyone with a family or with friends. read more
