I have been coming here for 4 years in a row and I have never experienced this type of getaway. Everything is great. The one thing I haven't tried is the fine dining, but I will try next year. I did tennis lessons, skeet shooting, the lake, the pool, the Tap Room, the snack bar, the arcade (bring back the Pinball games!). Really confusing place to review. On the one hand, the grounds are beautiful, and in many ways very well thought out. The trails are fantastic, the setting and scenery great. Even the food was a bit better than what I expected. But otherwise the place was very poorly ran. Every night dinner would take hours (2.5-3 hours) even though we would order right away from a very small set menu and were traveling with children. The place seemed criminally understaffed. Every time we had a question for anyone (even important ones, like those concerning allergies) people generally just shrugged their shoulders and said "I dunno." They have some nice things (e.g., gluten free ice cream sandwiches!) that aren't actually advertised for some reason. Some of their equipment isn't kept up (e.g., the croquet set was broken) but then also have some really amazing things (the ropes course was in perfect condition and really well designed and interesting). But lots of rather important things are shabby: our first room was comically poorly designed (e.g., it was impossible to watch the TV from any place in the room) and tiny (you had to move a lamp to open the curtains). When we had a problem, we called the front desk just asking to speak with someone and they hung up on us and just sent someone knocking on our door late at night. We then moved to another more expensive room (which they gave us an upgrade to for free, since we had booked a bunch of rooms for our family--this was civilized of them and appreciated). In general, people were nice enough but the service was pretty unanimously poor, so it seemed a question of poor management and training rather than poor hiring. At one point we were at the pool with children in it and the lifeguard just walked away and put a sign up saying 'swim at your own risk.' It was the middle of the day and there were children in the pool! He didn't make an announcement or anything, he just skulked off. Other people had left their kids there thinking there was some supervision! It was pretty unacceptable. It is worth noting that these complaints are about the general staff; a couple of the specialists were wonderful: Rick, the naturalist, gave an excellent nature walk, and Corey, the ropes course guide, was clear and professional. If it were cheaper I'd highly recommend it because the setting was so gorgeous. But as it was 5 star expensive, my family and I were left pretty cold. read more

My husband and I recently stayed here for our anniversary. The grounds are gorgeous and the lodge itself has a nice historic feel to it which we loved. Things were much different obviously due to the whole COVID thing. We stayed at the cottages which was a great place. The room was large enough for both of us, the bathroom was a little small though. There was very little space between the counter, toilet, and shower so you kind of had to maneuver around them. When I turned the water on to get the shower running the water was BROWN. I'm not sure if they use a well, but this was just gross. As a guest, who is tired from traveling, and wants to get a nice hot shower, the last thing I want to see is dirty water coming out. It was fairly warm the first day we were there, so we tried to adjust the thermostat before we left for a hike. When we got back the room was hotter than when we had left! Thankfully the room had a lot of windows we could open to cool things off. We had to leave them open all night long as we slept because it was so hot in there. All of the restaurants were closed due to Covid so we were only allowed to get take-out. The food was not that great for being rated a 4 star hotel. I literally could have made the same meal much better by myself at home. We were disappointed in some areas but pleasantly surprised in others. The hiking trails were so nice! Indian Ladder Falls was one of our favorites in addition to the Lake trail. Overall it was a decent weekend, but some things could definitely be improved upon. read more

Overall, Skytop Lodge is a great place for a weekend getaway accompanied by your family. With numerous activities that make a stay unbearable to leave! Weather it's the winter or the summer there are many things to do such as skiing, tubing, zip lining, and many, many more. However, although the food was very good, we had to wait about an hour for 6 people. I was convinced they were low under staff. I had also had a friend wait over an hour for an appetizer! I thought it was ridiculous having to wait that long. With many historic facts we learned about Skytop Lodge on there history tour which I do highly recommend which can be found on there Skylites along with many, many, many more very fun activities friendly for many different ages! read more

We were attempting to use the Adventure Center - Rock Climbing for our 5 year old. We made reservations with the Center, confirmed twice that 5 year olds are able to Rock Climb. The website advertises it is accessible for everyone. When we got to the center to check in the desk representative said you have to be 10y and older. And snickered that 5 year olds to 95 year olds can do this. Needless to say, we left with a crying 5 year old and overall disappointment. When we tried to talk to the manager (Deanna), she left an interrupted voicemail back (that 5 year olds can rock climb), then, never returned the two other voice mails I left her. If visiting the lodge, stick with the walk around the lake or playing in park outback, rather than hopes of being able to take advantage of the Adventure Center. read more

I have read the reviews of Skytop and understand why people either love or hate this hotel. This is a resort type place that I could have loved. The positives - the grounds are beautiful to walk around, play some volleyball, make some S'Mores, visit the lake, fish, canoe, sit on the beautiful deck, or visit the pool. I have found the service and staff attitudes to be pretty consistently good. The restaurants: for expensive places the food is mediocre at best. The choices are limited but adequate. The lodge: the building, rooms are all in need of a major facelift. The condition of the place is close to horrific. I went for a massage with Jasmine. Jasmine is an outstanding masseuse. I highly recommend the massage. The walk to the spa is up a run stairwell that looks tenement like, and the location of the spa, is sketchy looking. The activities are vast but no always available or staffed. We made a reservation to visit the butterfly house. No staff ever showed up. Finally, the dress code in restaurants is almost comical. You have this run down facility with marginal food and they are worried about me wearing a hat. If they improve the facility this could be a big win. read more

This place is actually GROSS. Their amenities are horrendous. The gym has 1 elliptical, and surprise, surprise, it's BROKEN. I drove 20 miles to the nearest gym so I could get my workout in this morning. What kind of "luxury" spot doesn't keep up with their fitness center? And, the locker room looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. I felt like I was in a dirty high school locker room - there was toilet paper all over the floor, dirty underwear (?????) and disgusting flies everywhere. The place also smells musty, and they don't do room service. The one positive about Skytop was the prenatal massage I got this afternoon. I am here for a family get together but I will NEVER be coming back. read more

This venue is GORGEOUS, my best friend just got married here this past weekend and everything was gorgeous! The bridal suite we got ready in was at the Inn and it overlooked a lake, it was a great backdrop while we were getting ready. The reception was set up perfectly and the outside deck was a great way to extend the room! Chris at the front desk was the most helpful person there, anything we needed he got it for us and really quickly too! The food was delicious, at the lunch in the bridal suite and for the reception, it was hot, flavorful, and soo good! On the other hand the wedding coordinator Nickole was the worst thing about the day, she was not helpful, she was rude, she ignored the bridal party when we went to find her and it took three or four calls for her to get back to us or answer her phone. She was MIA for most of the day, and checked on us once. I think the icing on the cake was when she asked the bride to leave early during the Mother Son dance because "she had a headache". If you are having a wedding here make sure she is NOT assigned to your wedding she will cause you more stress than anything. We had to have guests that were attending the wedding go find her on numerous occasions and get many of the detail sorted out that she had not taken care of. We called to ask her when we could set up for the ceremony and she told us 5:00...the wedding started at 5:30. Durning the wedding there was a lot of random people walking around the porch that overlooked the ceremony in the garden, you would think that the doors would be blocked off for a bit of privacy. The bride had asked that everything from the wedding be put in the bridal suite and we would get it in the morning, Nickole locked most things in her office and wasn't working the following day or answering her phone, so we had to track down someone who had a key to her office. In fact things being locked in her office seemed to be a trend of the day. All and all, the wedding went flawlessly and was absolutely gorgeous (thanks to the brides planning and preparation, bridal party and helpful guests) no thanks to Nickole! The location was perfect and so was the weather! I would recommend this location just not the staff (except for Chris he was GREAT!) read more

The lodge was very nice with many outdoor activities and the staff were wonderful. The down fall was the food (too overpriced and mediocre), nothing to do in the evenings and all the hidden charges. We were shocked when we received our bill to find It cost us $115.00 for two sandwiches, a burger, coffee and milk shake. Very sad and disappointed. read more

We stayed at Skytop during the week of 4/13/14 with the kids and took advantage of a living social deal. We were very pleased with the room, we stayed in one of the cottages and the staff for the most part was very helpful and friendly. On the other hand, the food service and food was extremely lacking and over priced. It really put a damper on the entire trip. The first night we were there we decided to eat in the Tap Room since it is more casual and we had a two and a four year old with us. We ordered an appetizer, two kids meals, two entrees and two drinks (bottle of beer $7+ and house wine $10+) for well over $100. The shrimp cocktail (4 "not so jumbo" shrimp for $12) we ordered as an appetizer came out in a matter of minutes, which is a promising sign when dining with kids. Unfortunately the wait staff is not properly trained, they never brought plates for the appetizer or bread. After the quick appetizer we then proceeded to wait an hour for the rest of our food to appear and without any contact with any staff besides the girl who kept coming to ask if we wanted more water. By this time the kids were absolutely starving and melting down. My daughter had no complaints about the kids hotdog meal (at this point she would have eaten a shoe). My son's mac and cheese was a bland mess of tasteless noodles in a creamy sauce as was my wife's pasta primavera only had only a sliver of vegetables and had the quality, taste and size of a frozen microwave meal ($22) served in a small bowl. I am a big fan of Ahi tuna, so I had ordered the nori wrapped tuna with citrus ponzu sauce over coconut rice ($24). The fish was poor quality, the food had no taste (I have never had to sprinkle salt on a restaurant fish dish before) and the rice was plain and hard and the entire dish was a VERY meager portion. In my hunger and trying to contain the children, I choked it down, but later realized that part of the lack of taste was due to it not only the poor quality but it was missing the sauce. Since we had to get the kids to bed and my daughter urgently needed to use the restroom my wife escorted the kids out while I flagged down another server to get the bill and pay since ours had disappeared The next day we went for a swim in the indoor pool which is very nice but does not look very clean. We did a lot of swimming while we were there which the kids really enjoy. There were two lifeguards, the female one who was excellent and kept a keen eye on everything and was not afraid to approach quests and kids who were creating hazards or breaking the pools rules (ie. throwing kick boards at each other.) The gentleman lifeguard was much less proactive and reluctant to approach or confront guests. A number of ladies with the attitude of 'I have money and I'm paying to be here so I'll do whatever I want' got the wise idea to bring long stemmed glasses of red wine to the pool while they were "watching their kids", and socializing. I was ready to blow my top as I was sure one of the glasses was going to get broken in the pool chaos, knowing they would close and drain the pool if they did. Fortunately that did not happen since the pool was the highlight of the trip since the weather was uncooperative We decided to get a quick lunch of sandwiches at the tea room. When we got there it was pretty full, all of the stools were taken but we managed to get a table. As I surveyed the room I noticed that no one was eating and there about 10 people waiting in an unmoving line to order while two women were frantically working behind the counter. We struck up a conversation with the table next to us and they said they had been waiting a while. At this point I could smell food burning and a women at the counter (ironically one of the pool wine drinkers) was yelling and berating one of the women behind the counter and then stormed out to get a manager. I felt absolutely horrible for the overwhelmed employee and at this point I said lets pack it up and get out of here. One of the best decisions we made, just a few miles away we stumbled on Mountainhome Deli which was excellent and very family friendly. We ended up picking up sandwiches there the next day too For dinner we ended up going to the Frogtown Inn & Six Acres Restaurant in Canadensis a minute down the road. It was absolutely delicious and the quality of the food and prices were incomparable to our previous night's dinner. Between the four of us, we had an excellent seafood appetizer, 3 petite filet mignon's with tomato & blue cheese, 2 crab chowders, a kids chicken finger meal, wine & beer and it was still cheaper than Skytop Wifi is antiquated, you have to log in manually frequently Old main building has areas of extreme/mold mildew smell buffet breakfast average at best $45 gratuity& tax added to bill daily At no time during visit, dining or checkout did any staff (besides the nice shuttle driver) inquire about our stay or experience. read more

I can't even begin to express my disappointment with Skytop Lodge.... I went for a short 2 night getaway for my boyfriend's birthday on August 18. Upon arrival (on the 18th) at 6:00 pm we were greeted by an extremely rude receptionist who was insistent that I print out the travelzoo voucher and rolled her eyes when I asked why I couldn't just use my phone. The receptionist did offer to let me print the voucher out after we put our bags away, which was kind, but then never offered any additional information about the stay. When we got to the room, we realized that we had no idea what to do! My boyfriend called down to see how the all inclusive dining worked and was told to come downstairs and eat at the main dining room whenever we were ready and to stop by to get a jacket if he was not dressed appropriately. (Ick, by the way, for being so pretentious when the place looks like a cafeteria!). So we did just that.... The food was absolutely dreadful!!!! It was not seasoned at all and the presentation looked like someone grabbed the food in handfuls and threw it on the plates. I ordered a salad and it was served on a bread plate?! They were out of 2 of the 4 courses that I ordered (oysters and sea bass) and after settling on the pork shank was served up the most overcooked disaster of meat that I have had in a long time. I mentioned twice that it was my boyfriend's birthday and after serving us our dessert and singing to 3 other tables in the restaurant, I started to give our server the WTF face... They came through with a 3rd dessert, this one with a candle. The servers attempted to sing "Happy Birthday" but laughed hysterically through most of it. Classy.... The next day we decided to put it all behind us and try again. We opted out of breakfast since we wanted to sleep in but tried out the lunch buffet. It was "Asian Day" (????) as the server explained and I only needed to watch the woman ripping handfuls of crusty, stuck together, lo mien for about a minute before I opted for the safer items of salad and deli meat. The children's corner was the exact same as the night before - Chicken fingers, French fries and Pizza. I am glad that Skytop is teaching healthy eating habits to the little ones..... We went outside for some fun in the sun only to find out that you needed to sign up for activities ahead of time and that everything was booked. We had no idea what was even available since the receptionist never told us a thing!! I later also found out that we were supposed to get a $10 activity credit each with our stay :( Since we couldn't stomach the main dining room and found out that you also need to make reservations 2 days in advance for the lakeside dining room, we decided in best not to eat at Skytop for the remainder of the vacation. BUT...Rest assured they charged us $120 at check out for gratuities for all of the food that we didn't eat!!! I did not want to fight this part since it is not the fault of the staff that the food is terrible, but was so disappointed. No one offered a discounted rate for the food that we could not eat or the fact that we did not receive the voucher or any activity information. Almost $600 to sleep in an old bed for 2 nights..... Terrible, terrible, terrible!!!!!! read more

This place is terrible first off the customer service just sucks we pulled up expecting to valet park no one was there to greet us we left the car to check in our room was ready and we had to ask 3 times for a bellman and we ended up parking our car. The grounds are just ok the hotel itself is not kept up room has peeling wall paper and are very small when the say you have a view you don't. The staff is not well educated on the activities that are happening and when we inquired about the zip lining they said "oh sorry they are booked but you can call this ext to see if they can do something". We went and booked our zip lining at the Activities Center ourself something they should have helped us with considering the cost! My advise is if you want to stay somewhere like this go to Lake Mohonk in NY so much better. This is not worth the price and I will never come back. read more

Fantastic property just DO NOT GO INSIDE or STAY THERE. This is a disgusting dump with a staff to match. UNFORTUNATELY stayed in this HOVEL. Bald bell hop a complete a hole. They cannot get customers because theyre regulars are extinct and they rely simply on Living social to fill the dump based on some nice pics of the outside. This will be the worst surprise of your life when you get here. This place is stuck in the 40's and 50's. All rooms connect to adjacent disgusting rooms. Do not take your shoes off in your room, bring wading boots or rain boots. Carpets are FILTHY. Stains of love all over the 80' Goodwill furniture. There is a fowl stench of urine in the bathroom because people just piss on the floor. They moved us twice to a final 3rd room. They ruined our anniversary. Doreen is sub par and does not know how to talk to customers. Stuck her tongue out at me telling me to bite my tongue and that the room is okay. She belongs in a motel 6 under an overpass in South Central LA. They added a $50 gratuity (for bell hop and valet all of which we didn't use)into the bill after moving us to a different room, the charge was crammed in when we checked out. This place is a PHUKING SCHITHOLE. Stay under an overpass, a camp ground, or a gas station because the service, cleanliness, and value will still be better than at The Skytop Lodge. REVIEW OF THE SPA AT SKYTOP. Me and 2 friends sent our wives to the Spa as an Xmas present. The three ladies were extremely disappointed. We had ordered 4 services per woman, as part of a package. The prices were outrageous, but I was willing to pay if it was worth it. The sad part is that when you pull up to the place, it still seems like it is going to be 5-star. Though, when you get past the lobby, it's more like 1-star. !st bad impression was that they had to trudge through unpaved and unplowed snow in the parking lot. Then, the suite itself is disgusting. Good spas have a peaceful holding area where customers can wait between treatments, with waterfalls and calming music, and filtered water dispensers filled with lemon slices. No music here, broken chairs, dirty carpet. The waiting room at the Jiffy Lube is much nicer. What a disgrace!! Obviously, the place is not making money, but how dare you charge these prices for what you are giving back. It is like they haven't put a penny into the spa in 30 years. PLEASE do not go to this awful spa!! read more

My experience is for attending wedding event two nights main lodge - Lodge Mini-Suite. Rating = 3 without unnecessary staff confrontations. Positive: great grounds, decent indoor outdoor recreation, great staff, spacious. Lots of potential for world class lodging. Negative: Excessively over priced for quality provided and gross misuse of the fixed 18% gratuity. Dirty facilities, dingy outdated furniture, outdated dining rules and staff trained to be policeman and work in fear of management. You are blowing it! 1. Lodge Mini-Suite: The photo of this room looks better than the room we actually got. The ventilation system has cooling and heat but in a warm evening with AC at 75 at bedtime, you awake 2 am in 85 to 90 degrees bone dry heat. I woke with a very bad nose bleed and unstoppable headache. They added electronics to switch AC to heat without even a placard letting you know. A nose bleed is serious business when you cannot get back to sleep needed for wedding activities. The bathroom is cramped. Sleep Inn bathroom is 10 times better. Lost shower water pressure to a near dribble from other rooms flushing the toilet. Doors large floor gap so lots of hall noise. Unworthy of the $400+ room price anywhere in the world. King bed was comfortable and plenty of pillows. TV/cable/DVD/VCR acceptable. 2. WiFi very weak. The wedding disc jockey was hampered by it as well. Bring cellular internet with you. Verizon gets you 3 - 4 bar 3G and that was 10 times faster than their wifi when it worked at all. No hotel cannot be without adequate internet these days and expect to attract the young folks with money who get it from being in the technology sector. 3. Staff. Good people who are trained to challenge you in front of your friends and family for something you had no idea would be not allowed. In my case, embarrassed in front of family at lunch after being seated at the table to remove tan plain cap that I need to prevent sunburn. Second time in transporting for bride groom's wedding gift special expensive liquor that needed wrapping. Bottle tops poked its head out of one of our carrying cases so the person helping us unload the car challenged us on bringing it into the hotel with no alternatives offered. Again the wrong use of staff. We embarassingly complied, then, DUH, later brought the gift in undercover. Third time was a breakfast in a reserved part of the dining room wedding party guests. I was escorted to a table & told we had one table full and they then allocated another table for me. Then I proceeded back to get the buffet breakfast in another room. I returned being the only person at the table, I was literally interrogated by the servers. Are you a wedding guest? Are you with the wedding assigned to that table? Did anyone tell you to sit at this table? Well that frosted me. Skytop, no one wants to pay 18% for interrogation and monitoring by staff. Also it is easy to find out that the 18% does not fully go to staff & that staff is fearful of management. Very bad management - you lose potential repeat business brought in via weddings. 4. Wedding 4.5 stars - Was not responsible for wedding. From my perspective, they handled that well, were on top of things & made it work. They do a lot of them & have plenty of room and resources. Food was good. We had their best facility. 5. Grounds - super lake with hiking, that you can visit without staying there BTW. I do not golf, but you can read other's who have commented on that. 6. Facilities. You can have fun there. From the traditional coin games like air hockey to indoor mini golf (needs repairs), pool, TV room, quaint bar room called the tap room, rock climbing, canoeing, swimming, basic exercise room. 7. Maintenance. Room service is good. Carpets are filthy in all the meeting rooms and in our room they were "acceptable" but you want to keep your things off of them. The indoor pool was dirty one day - cloudy you could not see the bottom. Hot tub foamed which means sun oils and such in the water. Men's pool shower - MOLD! tiles & vents. Shower in your room after you shower in the men's pool locker if you know what I mean. One dirty ice machine controlled by bell hop, tastes foul. DO NOT USE THE ICE! 8. Furniture - they have the dumpiest furniture throughout the building and in the rooms. The retro look is nice but needs upgrading to newer furniture, carpets and appointments. 9. Food - nothing special based on 1 lunch + 2 breakfasts. Omelet bar was a plus. Skipped 3 of 6 prepaid meals because I was turned off by the irritating rules, not so special food and tense unhappy dining staff. 10. Antiquated dining rules: Do not plan wearing a cap & reading the morning news in the dining room on your iPad, you will be intimidated by staff to take them back to your room. Skytop: Rethink how to accommodate hats & electronics in the dining area or perish. 11. No checkout feedback, so I went out of my way to sign up to give feedback via Yelp instead. read more

While this is a lovely setting, we were continuously disappointed by the service and food. The first night we found out that out inn king room, which by the way, was more than a regular king room, has no front door service like at the main lodge. A guy sat behind the desk when we checked in and no one was there to help with our bags. Small detail but shouldn't this building receive the same service. Also the night we arrived the main lodge was swarming with kids because of Santa coming, so after a cocktail in the tap room( still swarming with kids) we decided to back over to the inn and try that restaurant( that didn't require reservations. Upon arriving back over there via shuttle at 5:00 pm they told us they needed a reservation and couldn't take us until after 9:00. THE PLACE WAS NEARLY EMPTY! Ok so I guess we can go order room service. There wasn't a menu for that in our room so we asked the young man at the front for one. He gives us the wrong menu. We finally get someone from the other building to actually bring us a menu( because the fax machine was broken ) and finally about 7:30 we were delivered dinner. Which was mediocre at best for $100 for two entrees and a super small appetizer, which I would not have called an appetizer. We then asked the bartender at the inn for a corkscrew for our bottle since we could get in the restaurant. She refused to lend us a corkscrew or open our bottle. Great for us my husband is resourceful:) Day two went ok. Brunch was so so, average buffet brunch. Glad I did get an omelette made because most of everything else was cold. Service was slow. Oh did I mention the attach an 18% service charge to every meal. So don't over tip and give an additional 20% like we did the first day. We had one server actually tell us about this the last night. Other than that it wasn't mentioned at all. We are business owners our selves and if the management actually reads these reviews, please know we are two that don't complain a lot because frankly you learn to not expect a lot. But from a resort of this price range there are a few things I would expect and great customer service and attention to detail is just those things that are expected. Please also know our room service tray from Friday night was still sitting out side the door Sunday morning. Not acceptable at all. Just no! Come on, a beautiful historic building and beautiful grounds just don't make you want to come back. We travel through this way every year on our way to visit family, but we will not be staying here again that is for sure. Next time I will look for another alternative. Oh yea. And Monday morning when we got up, there has been coffee every morning in the lobby and there was not. We called and had to ask for it. We are here at Skytop Lodge on day two of a three day vacation. We are a family of four, with our daughters being ages 11 and 13. This place is fantastic! It is definitely a family friendly resort, with so many activities we didn't know where to begin. Yesterday we checked in, took a shuttle that they provide, and went right to the sledding hill. We had the hill to ourselves for most of the time, and had a blast! The shuttle picked us up right when we were finished and we went to the indoor ice skating rink. After that there is a hot tub, which was a welcome sight! We ate dinner at the Lakview Inn, and had a wonderful meal. Today we are planning on skiing, snowboarding, and possibly Dog Sledding! The ski hill is perfect for people learning to ski and snowboard. We are staying in the Main Lodge in their mini suite room, which I would highly suggest for a family of four. The rooms are very clean, with great views. There is a king bed, and a pull out sofa, which my kids said was comfortable. The food here so far has been excellent, and the staff is very accommodating for kids that are picky eaters. The staff has been nothing but friendly and helpful. At night they light the fireplaces in the gorgeous lobby, and there is a place for the kids to play ping pong, mini golf, and a small arcade. The pool is open later on the weekends, but after all of the other activities, I think I might just crash! So far this has been a great trip, and we will most likely be returning next year. read more

My husband & I just returned from a two night winter getaway at the Lodge. One thing that I was not particularly fond of had to do with the fact that our getaway was a gift & when we arrived we were given room agreement with the total cost displayed. I get that we had to sign the room agreement but wished the process was more discrete. We put a credit card on file (which we'd expect) but were told that we can charge the whole visit to that card when we check out...It would have been nice if the hotel had a way of documenting that our visit was a gift so that we were just putting a card down for additional expenses. It seems like a little thing, but it's those little things that make your guests feel welcomed and valued. The room was quaint. It looked like it had been recently painted and the bathroom seemed to have been recently renovated. The bed was large and looked nice but unfortunately it was uncomfortable. The sheets which were starched, scratchy and loud (yes loud). As well, the walls of the room are paper thin and we could hear full on conversations around us all the time; needless to say, we didn't sleep well. When dining, we had no idea that there were meal plans or if our gift had included some sort of meal plan so the whole dining experience was confusing. First there was lunch with Sergei who was pleasant and competent; howbeit, a bit stoic. He explained that there was a buffet & an a la carte menu. We did the buffet which was a fairly typical spread of sandwich fixings, salad bar, beef, chicken & seafood hot entrees & a dessert table. Everything was decent but not exceptional, which I would expect from a buffet so no qualms there. At the end of the meal we motioned to Sergei for the bill and were told "you owe me nothing". This was the first time we realized that somehow our meal was covered in our room rate. For dinner, we had a reservation & my husband had packed a suit jacket so there were no issues with accommodating the dining room's dress code. I don't recall the name of our waiter but we found him suffocating & misleading. For example, we both decided to get a salad and the entrée special which was a sea bass. When we went to order we were told that we each needed to order an appetizer, salad, entrée & dessert. We were taken aback that we were being told to order more food but then assumed it must be part of the meal plan so we ordered 4 courses. After all that, the waiter asked us whether he should bring us the bill or just charge our room! How deceptive is that? That being said, the meal was actually very well prepared and we did enjoy the wine waitress who was not a sommelier but helpful and knowledgeable about wine pairings. We just cannot support the waiter's underhand ways of getting us to spend more. The rest of our meals went well without overt issue. Ihad breakfast the next morning and brought a book since I was dining alone. The waiter was attentive and helpful without being too disruptive. My only complaint with breakfast was that he asked me which dining plan we had, again, isn't there a way that the hotel staff could have informed us from the beginning what was included in our plan and can't they communicate that to the rest of their staff so that there is more transparency about billing practices? I told him that I honestly didn't know and he seemed to have figured it out because he didn't bring it up again. We stayed for another lunch which was with Sergei and although it took a while for my husband's cheesesteak to come out he was very pleased with the quality. In the evening we cancelled our dinner reservation at the Lodge and did a movie and sushi dinner in Moosic instead which we thoroughly enjoyed. Later that night we deliberated about packing up and heading out early but we couldn't decide. We even settled in our room thinking that we'd make the best of it but could not get comfortable. The music from dancing going on in the main lobby could be heard clear as a bell in our room and the scratchy sheets on the bed were just further reminder of our nice comfortable, quiet bed at home. So we changed out of our pajamas, packed up our bags and headed out around 10:30. The receptionists at the desk were kind but noticeably confused at our departure; however, given the lateness of the hour and our desire to get on the road we didn't offer much of an explanation besides "we'd like to go home". They printed out our bill & explained that the fee for this last night would not be added until the next day. We loaded up our car and headed out. The lodge itself looks like a beautiful manor house out of a storybook. Inside, the place has so much potential if they'they'd just update the furniture, carpet etc. In terms of financial frustrations, ideally the staff would have explained the dining plan to us upon our arrival and we would have gladly put a credit card on file to cover any additional expenses that were not included in our gifted stay. My family and I spent four days at the Skytop Lodge and had an amazing time. The service was fantastic. The management went out of their way to be accommodating and helpful and to make every wish come true. We highly recommend this place for a great family vacation. read more

So not thrilled. The property is beautiful but the staff quality is uneven. Upon arrival, valet made a poor impression with a too obvious focus on looking for a tip. Wait staff in dining room are beyond slow. And what is appropriate to compensate a guest who has to spend their entire night packing and moving to a new, inferior room in order to access internet? If I were the manager I would be falling all over myself to make amends. Hot tub at a vacation/resort property should NOT close at 7:00 p.m., and cleaning should be done during the night, not first thing Monday morning read more

Overpriced tiny rooms, uncomfortable beds, friendly but ineffective staff. Dining rooms had slow service. Dinner took 3 hours. Food was hit and miss, but mostly miss. The bartenders were very good, on the other hand. read more

We just went for a long weekend and loved Skytop! Love the architecture and "historic landmark" feel. Staff is so warm & friendly and there were many activities for the kids! My daughter loved the skiing, snow tubing, & ice skating. She also really liked their game room, which was a nice touch for the kids. I took off 1 star because the food is mediocre for their high price and didn't have a great experience at the spa. The massage itself was good, but it was delayed by 30 minutes. I wouldn't have minded, but the lady at the front desk kept insisting that the therapist was coming and never bothered to check. Turned out he didn't know he had an appointment! I'd give it 4.5 starts if I could since it really is a very beautiful place and most of the staff do try very hard to be helpful & friendly! read more
