I'm new to New York and I've been looking for coffee shops/bars etc. I would say I've tried a good number of places but I've always deferred from trying Skytown based on the inconsistent reviews. I wish I would have came a lot sooner. Nothing is wrong with this place, not anymore expensive than any other place I've been to in the area. I tried the seasonal omelet today and it was great. Consistent wifi, good food, no trouble finding a space to set up my laptop. I didn't run into any a**holes in the two times I've come here. Not sure what everyone is complaining about. I've come here mainly to get some work done on the wifi but I will definitely come just to drink at the bar. read more

Just moved to the neighborhood, and wanted to check out this place. Was not disappointed! Both my friend and I ordered the salmon fillet, which was incredible. There was only one bartender on staff who was going all the table service as well, so service took longer than normal, but she did a great job. My friend and I wanted to check this place out since it's nearby and opens till 4 am (which is awesome) however, we were extremely disappointed with the food and service. The ambience and whole set up has a great feel to it. I love a place with candles and mason jars, it definitely adds a certain charm. I also loved that they had a exclusive menus based on the season (8-10 items) Saying all that, we got there at 9, the bar was semi busy but the rest of the restuarant wasn't, seeing that there was barely any other customers, you would think the service would be reasonable quick. First of, the waiter took forever to take our order. (We both order the Home made beef burger) Then after waiting for 45 mins, he then decides to mention that they had to re make our burgers fresh again! I don't get what happened to it the first time but after waiting for soo long, he then mentions that they're just starting to make it! Since we were starving we decided to wait. Finally, after a total of 1 hr and 15 mins, burgers show up. Esthetically, they look delicious, a little cheap with the salad and would have loved if they had some chips or fries on the side. Anyway, after all that, it was the most peppery tasting burger I've ever had. The pepper flavor was very overwhelming however the patty was cooked nice and juicy. I have this bad luck that as soon as I write a nice review about a place, the next time I go something bad happens, so Skytown, please don't let me down! The drinks here are awesome! The Macintosh is my favorite and it is amazing! Anywhere else it would cost $12 - 16, but at Skytown drinks are in the $8-10 range. It's a really cute place, warm and candlelit, and good for catching up with friends or just having a drink, bite or coffee on your own. Bathrooms are clean and there are hooks for jackets and bags under the bar. The bartenders are really nice. Really nice and neighborly. All in all this place is a gem. I have nothing bad to say about it other than I wish it was closer to my apartment! read more

Went here a couple weeks ago and was extremely disappointed. I ordered the Eggs in Hell, hoping to get was two poached eggs on toast with Sriracha and tomato. What I got instead was two pretty much hard boiled eggs on soggy toast covered in what tasted like canned tomato purée. No Sriracha to be found. My friend ordered the tacos which were a bit better but still pretty gross. The steak was extremely fatty and the onions were cut in big chunks and raw. It left me hungry and curious as to who's running the kitchen. The only reason I give it 2 stars is for the cute ambiance. read more

I really like this place to sip some coffee, eat a bite and work on my computer when I need to get out of my apartment. I've sat here for hours before, and never felt rushed or like I was taking up much needed space. Nice decor. The food is fine- good, tasty cafe food; the breakfast sandwich is really good. My experience with the service has been great! Whenever I've gone it's not too busy and I go to the bar and order, then either sit at the bar or sit at another table. I haven't expected full table service, but maybe they do it, I dunno. The people are really nice. If it was closer to my apt I'd be back more regularly. I do wish they had espresso, though. read more

Ok first off the ONLY reason I'm giving two stars is because 1) the food, when it got to us, was delicious, 2) the drinks, when they got to us, were delicious, and 3) the atmosphere was nice...with that said I should be giving them a ZERO or NEGATIVE regarding the attitude and service received. My friends and I went to Skytown for brunch this past Sunday, we have been enjoying finding new places in Bushwick to eat, drink, and be merry. We all live in the area and want to support local restaurants and bars. We figured Brunch with live Jazz playing...wonderful...however little did we know that the live Jazz was playing to sooth us from going crazy with hunger and thirst as it took them and HOUR AND HALF to serve food with barely any customers in the bar! Don't get me wrong I'm a reasonable person and understand things go wrong in the kitchen or with the technology that sends the food to the kitchen... I get it...I've worked in the food industry, so have the friends I went with, and let me tell you NEVER have we experienced in a restaurant what I experienced here! And honestly this review is for the management, I don't blame the employees for their lack of service, just their lack of common sense. 1) When you have new employee make sure they are trained on your ordering system so they do not look like a lost puppy when a customer is trying to order, then look at the customer with a vacant stare making us feel bad for getting frustrated with the employee not knowing if the order went in, if they ran a card, basically didn't know a darn thing that was happening. 2) While we waited for food and drinks, we noticed the kitchen staff just standing around and new employee looking lost again....how, when you have a restaurant with customers that you know have ordered food, are you NOT looking into the progress of the food?! 3) We had to get up after 30mins of waiting for one of my friends drinks to reorder it because there was no communication between the staff regarding her ordering her drink. 4) After an HOUR of waiting for our food new employee comes around and ask if we ordered food...she was the one to take the order in the first place and at that point we have been there for an hour and half...yes of course we ordered food! 5) After an HOUR and 15 mins of waiting for food new employee comes over to retake our order because something went wrong with getting the food orders to the kitchen....ok we get it this happens...when she sees or frustration she herself gets frustrated...making us feel bad and foolish to ask for zucchini bread or something to compensate for the wait...when honestly once the staff figured out that something went wrong this should have been offered to make up for the errors. 6) HOUR and HALF later food comes out...HOWEVER the orders were not placed in order, we were one of the first people to order food and I and a friend got ours 15 min before others at my table....I consider it rude to eat before others get there food so I just sat there and waited finally my friends just said to start because it would get cold. (Needless to say this was very uncomfortable!) 7) Food comes out...two out of four orders were correct, one person ordered an egg sandwich which came with no potatoes she was afraid to say anything because she didn't want to keep complaining and was so hungry she didn't care anymore. My friends hamburger comes out he notices again no potatoes but also to top off the experience a HUGE LONG HAIR embedded in his burger. Now that should have been the finale straw for us to leave...hell we should have left after an HOUR of waiting, however we saw two other people get fed up and leave and wanted to stick it out, also did I mention we were starving? It will be a VERY long time until I revisit this place and it is sad because I truly enjoy the atmosphere, and the food was great along with the Bloody Mary I received. Also it should be mentioned that the Bartender did give us a round of drinks on the house and 15% off our meals, again AFTER we asked what could be done to compensate this experience. But seriously Management where were you?? When you have new staff in the mix at least one person of management should be around to make sure things like this do not happen! Its hard to find some good places to go for brunch along the J, M, Z lines, it was such a let down to have had this experience. read more

It's a gorgeously-lit rustic looking place and while I was there they played some chill nostalgic 90's hip-hop so I was pretty darned happy. The bartender Shantell was friendly, prompt and generally cool. I wasn't feeling very adventurous when I went there, though their cocktails look intriguing I stuck to beer... I was a little underwhelmed by their beer options, not a very diverse offering and no bottles and just a couple non-tap options in cans. The crowd seemed chill, attractive and sightly diverse. Not ALL hipsters, but yes a lot of white folks but not entirely so either. I liked the vibe though with some more earthy (less frou-frou) food and beer options I'd be a big fan. Such good food, a relaxed atmosphere, and friendly service. I went there for the first time for brunch today with a friend who is convinced that New York is filled with unfriendly people. This place made her think twice about that. First, the waitress made sure the and again that we had everything we needed. Some people may say that's just her job but it was appreciated none the less. What really put it above and beyond is that when it became clear that my friend and I were splitting our meal (eggs in hell, which I can't recommend highly enough!) out of necessity because we have tight budgets, the waitress threw in a complimentary mimosa so that we at least didn't have to share that part of our meal as well. Every time I go to skytown I get the best service from Sam and Johnny. Sam was the first person I met when I moved to Brooklyn and had been such a good person. I'm very frequent at skytown and I love the music and atmosphere. One of the best bars because of their bartender Sam. Bushwick has a lot to learn from these guys that's for sure. read more
