Hoagie and football. Great combo. Stumbled on this place when looking for a hoagie place since my favorites are normally closed on Sunday. So why not try a hoagie shack. I ordered takeout via the website which was pretty seamless. Upon entering the place was empty. I walked to the counter and there were two employees making fries and one typing on the computer. Waiting to be greeted or asked for help I grabbed some chips to pair with my sandwich and placed it on the counter. And still no look or any sort of acknowledgement from any of the employees. They knew I was there but they were distracted so I waited patiently. After about 5 mins a gentleman asked if he can help and I said I'm here for a pickup. He went grabbed my order and I paid. I showed him my check in coupon for a free fountain drink. He called what he said was his manager and explained to her I have a coupon which clearly states the business name and location, and she replied "we don't have anything like that". Ok. Cool. I didn't argue I grabbed my food and thanked them. I wanted to get the service portion out of the way because I wanted to be fair with the food as standalone since it was takeout and I don't know how the dine in experience is but one can only guess They have sticker branding on the hoagie wrap which is cool. I opened and noticed the seeded roll which was fresh and soft. When i split the sub to see the contents it was far from properly proportioned and honestly looked like two totally different sandwiches. When I opened one was full with onions to the point I had to take some off, and I love onions! But this was too much. When I ate the bread was soft had nice texture but the sandwich itself was bland. I tasted more onions than anything. The meat was just there for texture and there wasn't a lot of it. No kick from the Capicola no tang from the Genoa. It was underwhelming. I had banana peppers on the side which when I added still couldn't save it. To be named a hoagie shack and get served a disproportioned tasteless sub just resulted in disappointment. I had some great hoagies so in context my bar is set pretty high but this place even with the convenient close location will not be seeing my business going forward. I went here for Lunch. I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, it missed the mark on almost every level. The hoagie was soggy, the meat was bland, and the roll tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. I seem to be going through a mini tuna obsession lately. For the past few weeks I have found myself searching for deli or sandwich shop that does chopped tuna the way I like it - with mayo, celery, light black pepper and finished with hot and sweet pickled peppers. I can go for years without even thinking of it, but every once in a while I just gotta have some. Slack's Hoagie Shack is a regional chain in these parts. They have a large menu of everything that can be stuffed into a torpedo roll and eaten. They happen to do tuna particularly well. They seem to grind it, more than chop it, making for a smooth, plyably, dense consistency, that hangs together well in a sandwich, and accepts additional condiments easily. It is not overly moist, so it is not given to slipping out the back door, and keeps it's shape until bitten. One hoagie is enough for two meals for me, as the standard length is about 12 inches. Their bread is pretty good, but mine may have been past its prime, as it seemed ein bissel dry. In the Trenton area, with so many Italian bakeries, this is almost inexcusable. Fix this, and 5 Stars await. Service was excellent, with easy ordering by phone, and smiling takeout once at the shop. Facility was also immaculate. read more

Way better then the Slacks Hoagie Shack near me in the Grant Plaza which is now a dump. The staff here are dressed in matching uniform shirts and their appearance is very clean. The staff is always so friendly and helpful and the service is always fast. When it comes to the food, the steak sandwiches are full of meat, and tasty. I usually get the cheese steak hoagie with a side of onion rings or fries. If you get the combo it comes with the drink, fries/onion rings for about 2 dollars more. Hoagies are really good. Food is freshly made. I shared a small Philly cheesesteak with my wife and it was plent. It must have been 14" or so. Wife and I split that with some fried pickles. Both were delicious. Staff wasn't super friendly, but at this point I'm thinking is a regional thing. They weren't rude, but lacking any southern hospitality. If you are in the area or visiting Sesame Place, it's a must. Slack's is a low-key gem and a local favorite for many. After hearing so many great things, I confirm it's definitely a fun spot with diner vibes, and it's great to come with friends. The food wasn't my favorite. I ordered the pizza fries, which were too thick cut for my liking, and it didn't seem to have come straight out the kitchen; the cheese was a bit hardened, and I think the staff was a bit distracted at the time. I was a little disappointed by the experience, but I'm open to coming again. They're more famous for their hoagies than anything, so hopefully I get to enjoy them the next time I'm in the area! read more

This place is hidden amongst a group of stores in a strip mall. I visit occasionally for lunch since it is very close to my office. Service is not the best in terms of friendliness but you can order and get your food within minutes. They are a tad overpriced but they give you a lot of food for the money so I guess it evens out. Food can be hit or miss. Sometimes they are very good other times not so much. Unfortunately, the latter was the case for this visit. I recently ordered from this location around 840pm on a Tuesday. During my ordering I (in the notes section under my hoagie) I specifically stated "no mayo, oil and vinagar". The food arrived in the time they said it would and I sat down to eat. After a few bites I noticed something that tasted like mayo. I inspected my sandwich that I had clearly stated not to have mayo and it was covered. I am writing this from my hospital bed as I am allergic to mayo. I tried this place for the first time about a month ago while staying at a sesame place hotel. I was not familiar with the take out food places in fairless hills or levittown so me and my husband gave this place a shot. I have to say hands down one of the best steak and burger places I have even tried in my life. The cheesesteaks are huge packed with lots of meat and the burgers are phenomenal! Even my kids chicken tenders and crab fries were great! They make a delicious homemade American cheese dip that tastes great on everything. The prices are very cheap and you get a large amount of food. This is our new favorite anytime we are in that area we only order from slacks! Great job keep up the great work! read more

Sometimes you gotta have a good and hearty sandwich to make your day better than it was before. I saw this place one morning when I was eating at the IHOP in the same shopping center. I decided to try it out for dinner on my way back to the hotel, damn glad I did. They have burgers, fries, hoagies (sandwiches for those who don't know the term), salads, and snacks. I ordered a big hoagie and a of fries. The service is awesome since they took extra care to make sure the fries were insulated and would not be hot enough to melt the typical plastic bag carrying the rest of my dinner. The food was pretty good, the fries are the thick cut style, also they make sure they are done perfectly so you do not eat semi-raw potato. My next trip I am definitely going back. I decided to try this place out since I was in the area and I had a craving for my favorite turkey & swiss hoagie. The menu is impressive with lots to pick from. They have ample seating inside for eating in. The guys behind the counter were incredibly polite and helpful. I ordered my typical sub in the Half size (which is more like a whole size at 12 in long) and a small coleslaw (which is more like a medium size). Everything is priced great and I took home my order for around $9. This is all good stuff. HERE IS MY COMPLAINT: The amount of meat and cheese in my sandwich was seriously underwhelming. The sandwich overall was very good. However, even Wawa puts more substance in between their bread. The bread was nice and fresh, the lettuce and tomato were crisp, and there was the perfect amount of mayo. My sub just seriously lacked its main ingredients. Its very possible that this is not the norm and the person making my sandwich was new or inexperienced. I will totally go back to this shop. And you should absolutely give it a try. My mom lives in the area, and whenever I'm visiting her I have to get Slack's at some point during the visit. I love their hoagies - the hoagie rolls are so good and always fresh. I also really like their chicken cheese steaks (get extra meat!), and they are always accommodating when I ask for a small dish of mayo on the side (I'm addicted to mayo on pretty much everything). Their fries are some of the best I've had, and their potato salad is great. I'm super picky about my potato salad, so that is a huge compliment from me. The potatoes are cooked well, and it has a really good and well balanced flavor. I've always ordered takeout, though they do deliver, and food is always ready pretty quickly and the staff are friendly. They have cheese steak specials on Wednesdays and run other specials pretty often. Gave us several options, from delivery to the church to special packaging to keep the meat & bread separate until lunch time the next day. Was very disappointed with our visit here with my wife. We were out running errands and as a Fairless Hills native who was excited for my wife to try something from the area I grew up in when she had suggested we stop at Wawa, I excitedly suggested Slack's. Let's start with the good: cool ambiance for a sports fan with memorabilia and photos all over-especially if you're a fan of 80's/90's NBA which I very much am. There was one guy behind the counter who was the only one there who slightly seemed to care. Let's get to the bad: we get there and I ask for the Albuquerque Turkey special as it is advertised right in your face when you walk in the door written on a huge chalkboard before you even enter the restaurant. The girl at the counter, who didn't seem to want to be there, proceeds to tell me she's sorry but "that's a daily special only and someone should turn the sign around." I looked to see if anyone would ever take the time to turn the sign around during our time here and show a sign of life but alas, nothing at all. I ordered a chicken sandwich called The Godmother and my wife a BLT without the tomato, and added cheese/mayo. Total for 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks to eat in: $22 and change. You pick the sandwich up at the counter, even on a slow day like today. So let's get to the sandwiches. The Godmother is a chicken cutlet with provolone cheese and broccoli rabe. Since you read above the special was unavailable, I opt for this and ask if broccoli rabe (which I don't like) could be replaced for spinach and the girl says, "we don't really have spinach, we have something like it but not really." Confusing a little? I said just give me the sandwich dry with the chicken and cheese. Twenty minutes later, (Slack's has always been slow as snails but on a day like today it was empty) the sandwich comes out and my wife's BLT as well. My sandwich was okay but the cheese in chopped patches and how it was made seemed like something more from a high school cafeteria than what you'd expect at Slack's. My wife's BLT with no tomato and added cheese/mayo? Had tomatoes, no cheese/no mayo!!! Wish I were kidding! Being the sweetheart she is, she pleasantly takes it back to counter and it's another 15-20 minutes before another one comes (should've taken 3 minutes) out with 4 people behind the counter, a lazy Manager watching NFL Football while sitting in a booth (season is over, homes) and a delivery driver all hanging out. If I'm the Slack's owner, my Monday morning meeting consists of the following: better customer service, better communication from staff with the customer and acting like you care to retain customers for repeat business. Take pride in the job you do. If you don't like what you do, find work elsewhere. Then again, leadership and culture starts at the top so I have to wonder if the owner is even all-in? The two things which are non negotiable with me are lazy people and poor customer service. First time ordering takeout from Slack's and everyone enjoyed their sandwich. It was Cheesesteak Wednesday and we placed an order for 6-7 chicken and beef cheesteaks and they were very good. Tons of free toppings to choose from and plenty of cheese, but the main star was the roll. The roll can make or break a sandwich and these tasted like they were fresh outta the oven. Historically, at least to me, Slack's and Lee's were comparable and interchangeable. In fact, Slack's is still fairly good, though I must note that they seem to be skimping on the meat and cheese on the sandwiches. Even as recently as a few years ago, you'd order the sandwich and they would start to make it, putting on the meat sort of "at their discretion". Now, it seems more like a Subway type deal, where everything is pre-measured. Regardless, the one star for this review is actually not about the food, its about the general cleanliness vibe I got from the place on my last 2 visits. The ceiling tiles are an abomination. The stuff on the walls has not changed since this location opened... which would be fine if the pennants and nick-knacks were kept clean. Instead, you have what amount to grease sponges and dust collectors pinned to the walls and ceilings above the areas where they are preparing your food. The floors and walls and booths just seem... tired and dirty. If a restaurant can't keep the things you can see clean, how bad might the places you can't see be? This was my first experience with a Philly style steak sandwich and it was great. Nice fresh, light roll cut along the top stuffed with perfectly minced, good quality sandwich steak. Cheese perfectly melted, onions nicely cooked through, but still with some texture. I had the cheese lovers: American, Swiss, and cheddar all together if I remember correctly. In my opinion could use just a pinch of salt. I'd go back next time I'm in town for sure. Hit the spot! read more
