I was a regular customer ordering there since the 90s then over a year and a half ago my orders started getting delivered after 2 hour's!! After the third time I stopped and ordered from Johnny Longhots. A few months ago I decided to see if Lee's delivered within a reasonable amount of time and for the first 2 deliveries it was ok. The last time it was over 2 hour's again and they gave me a free Pepsi which honestly didn't cut it. Tonight I called after waiting an hour and 40 minutes. They said it's out for delivery. I called back after 25 minutes and told them to cancel it and I'll never order from them again. The manager said they'd give it to me for free. Good place for a hoagie. I enjoy the South Philly, especially when Matty B. orders and pays for it. Tastes much better that way. Gotta love that sharp cheese! The food is ok, the prices are reasonable, and the selection is good. The service is borderline horrible, the hours aren't friendly, they are agonized if you need them to deliver (and really, if you've been drinking for whatever reason you not only are more likely to need delivery, but also you more likely are craving less healthy food), and the times you go to pick up food there always seems to be a near fight in the kitchen. Not good times, bad times. This place is OK. They have a big menu and make a big sandwich. I order the same thing no matter where I go and this shop is no different. It for sure is not the best sandwich I ever had but it certainly is not worst. The meat and cheese on the sandwich is nice and always seems fresh but multiple times my lettuce was a little wilted. The bread has always been fresh. The service at the counter can be a little sketchy. Sometimes the order is finished promptly and other times it takes 100 years. The attitudes behind the counter are also very inconsistent. They have seating inside but its very outdated and uncomfortable looking. The lighting is poor and it has that typical smell of a deli/hoagie shop. I feel like this sandwich spot could really be a home run with a few cosmetic changes. The worst meal I have ever had. The man on the phone completely screwed up our order (and didn't know how to spell my first name "Dan"). My wife ordered a hot veggie wrap and on it was essentially a salad (lettuce and shredded carrots and cucumbers!) And to top it off it was so greasy that it couldn't be picked up with your hands. I had a shrimp salad wrap and there was more onions than shrimp. Also, $17 for a while shrimp salad sandwich (granted it was huge). I liked that you could choose the size of the hoagie (third, half, or whole) which Slack's doesn't allow you to do, but Slack's hoagies and delivery time are much better. Let me start by saying I know lee le joie, he started his chain in Cheltenham pa on Cheltenham avenue just south of Washington lane in what once was an old drug store, lee was one of the 1st winners in the states lottery game and his funding came from there, now fast forward 40 years, he has franchised his concept, I am sure commands large royalties' from them, but honestly nothing really has changed in that time, the stores and equipment are dirty, the prices are far too high versus what you get, and my guess they buy stale rolls as well, all these things lee did decades ago and in a sense it's good to see some things never change read more

That woman had to come back three times for errors in the order. The hoagie was mediocre, the turkey was slimy, the chicken tenders were stale, whilst the fries were soft and I salty. Lees always had good hoagies. But this lees had terrible service. I ordered over the phone and when I got there they said I didn't call them I must have called a different lees and told me to get in line. I see that Lees get's a lot of not so good reviews, but mostly because of service problems or from orders other than hoagies. Just keep in mind, It IS called Lee's Hoagie House, and that's what they do best. I only get hoagies there, really primarily their Italian hoagies, and NOTHING else, because other places do other things better than Lee's. But NOT better than their hoagies. And I've never had a problem with their service. I've been eating at Lee's since the 50's, yes at the original Lee's on Cheltenham Ave. It's one of the first hoagie houses in Philly as far as I know. And I have to say that the hoagies are basically the same now as they were then. The meats are nothing special, you can find better meats like some newer chains claim, its not ... uhmmm primo meat, if u know what I mean. Their rolls are nothing special, just a plain roll, which I happen to think works well with their sandwich. They begin with extremely thin sliced always sweet rings of onions, lettuce and tomato for the salad, that blend perfectly together with their "special sauce" and with the rest of the sandwich. Some places just throw in a few chunks of onion, lettuce and tomato and expect that to work ... it doesn't, it just tastes like a few chunks of onion, lettuce and tomato thrown into the hoagie because they're supposed to, no chemistry. But the real secret to this hoagie is in the way Lee's puts this sandwich together with the alternate layering of meat, salad, meat, salad that is like no other, and its this along with their special sauce that makes their hoagie somehow rise to the top. This is surely a magical case where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. read more

Had to wait on the phone to place a pick up order for 10 min and 32 seconds before I finally hung up and decided to place the order in the store. When I get here 2 girls were working behind the counter while customers waited another employee just sat out in the seating area talking to his friends. He finally got behind the counter when his friends were ready to order. I usually enjoy this place. The food is great. But that got under my skin. I give this place a 4 star because whatever they make tastes so good! The cheesteak are the best around and so are the other products. The staff is nice and remembers your name. While there is somewhat of an attitude problem with the employees it is apparent that they are genuine people and just lack customer service training. They do however make up for it by making some kick ass cheesteaks, the double meat for 9 dollars will fill you up no matter how big a guy you are I guarantee that. Another reason I like Lee's so much is that I KNOW if I go there I'll be full and satisfied for sure they pack so much meat in the cheesteak that I will prolly go there tomorrow just because I thought of it and it also tastes so good. The only problem is that not all cooks make the same quality of sandwiches and hoagies, some guys (there's a bigger guy there if you catch him to make your sandwich you are in heaven and lucky!) make a better sand which than others. And this lack of consistency is the only reason I'm giving this a a 4 and not a 5.
