Such a disappointment on a recent visit to my home stomping grounds. Sandy's had been one of my favorites for many years, even before it's name was Sandy's. The place is a sports bar, and to their credit, they have lots of large screen TV's so that games are visible from every table. There's a good selection of beers, and service is very good and caring. The food was where my disappointment set in. I first ordered a pork sandwich with broccoli rabe and long hots. Happily, the sandwich held a good amount of meat. Sadly, it lacked seasoning and flavor, and felt like I was eating baby food. After two bites, I ordered a different Kenny item. The featured beef sandwich (my long time favorite) was filled with a generous portion of beef that, unfortunately was very tough and dry. In the past, the roll was dipped in jus, and practically melted in your mouth. Now it's a dry sandwich with a small cup of jus for dipping. I'm hoping that today was just an off day because I have a soft spot in my heart for this place. After all, I'd been coming here and loving those beef sandwiches for over 50 years. Roast beef was leather, quite literally could not even chew it with the teeth of a human. Volume of meat was great but not much I could do with leather other than make a belt. Like almost all things in our market today, quality has gone down while price has continued to go up. Very disappointing. read more

All country music. Intolerable. Food was good before. That may have changed. Son got a salad that clearly says on the menu it comes with cheddar cheese, came with no cheese. Asked the waitress if they forgot the cheese, tells us it doesn't come with cheese. Brings him a cup of Parmesan cheese instead of cheddar. He doesn't like Parmesan and now won't eat his salad. Had the godfather which claims to be chicken parm with pepperoni and long hots. The chicken was just some white chicken fingers on a roll. The color was very unappealing. Wife didn't really like her food either. Add the nonstop country music and a paused jukebox to the food issue and not likely to return or recommend anytime soon. read more

Well this was once my favorite spot for a fresh cut hot beef sandwiches and a few other of their specialty sandwiches. Recently ownership changed due to retirement, but the other half of a partnership took over fully. Now why when you have a great thing that is tried and tested would you change. The sandwich is now I'm guessing half the size it was originally and the price has increased. The menu has changed and of course prices of the steady original sandwiches have increased also (not sure about the size of those yet but will stick it out and try them also). A popular appetizer removed from the menu was brought back as a special, again price increased incredibly. Quantity of 5 jalapeño poppers w side of dipping sauce $10. Are you kidding me? A shame to have to report the negatives of a once great bar restaurant but maybe it's time to move on and find another. Maybe the new ownership will wonder where their steady base has gone before it's to late. Service is so so bit that is everywhere now after Covid unfortunately. read more

Great to be back at Sandy's -- first time since before COVID-19. We had the FAMOUS ROAST BEEF (4/5 $9.95) and a HALF SANDWICH AND SOUP ($9.70) of ROAST PORK (4/5) and CORN CHOWDER (4/5). I tried the Sweet & Spicy sauce (on the side) for the pork sandwich. It was nice as a dip, but I don't think I'd like it poured on the sandwich. Oh ... BLOODY MARYs to drink (4/5 $8) were very good. Eating from the food truck at Aristaeus brewery. Boneless wings and kielbasa sandwiches. The sauerkraut was not hot. The sweet & sour wings were quite tasty. We also got three pretzels which were very good. Decent value at ~$32. Self service at the food truck and the bar. We sat in the smoking section outdoors at the brewery as the Adirondack chairs are very comfortable. We saw a few neighbors and former neighbors. We decided to give Sandy's one final chance. We've gone for so many years that we thought it was only fair to give it a third chance since the previous two weren't good. We went during a Phillies game hoping it would be crowded. There were 4 other people there besides us. I didn't feel good about this. It was not typical of the old Sandy's. I got a wrap as I don't like their rolls. It was fine. My husband ordered his usual Cuban. He kept saying it didn't taste right. Well, later that night he was sick. It definitely didn't taste right. I am so sad to say this but we will never return. Thanks for a few decades of great food but no more. read more

Tried Sandy's for the first time. Had hot boneless wings- pretty good. Poutine fries - good on a cold day, which it was. Roast beef sandwich - sliced on the thicker side, but it was tender. I saw a review that said it was fatty, not my experience. Service was good,they were busy. Ambiance was good for the venue. I would go back to try some other things. read more

I recently went to Sandy Beef and Ale for a late-night snack, and when I say late, I mean for this town. Since the pandemic ended, most restaurants have never returned to their old hours, and they close anywhere between 8 and 10 pm. I'm not too fond of it, but I adapted somewhat. Sandy's is famous for their vast Roast Beef and slow-cooked, fall-off-the-bone Pork sandwiches. Sandy's is a sports bar, so they have alcohol, and no matter where you sit, you can see a TV with a game on it and sometimes different games on different TVs. You can sit and eat at the bar or grab a table. The atmosphere is lively and energetic, making it a fun place to be as long as you're in the mood. It can get loud like all sports bars do. I ordered a soft pretzel with a fantastic cheese dip and loaded Tater Tots, which I never had here before, and my friend got Roast beef on a roll with Swiss cheese. Sandy's is one of the only places around that always has Slow Gin, so I ordered an Alabama Slammer to have with my snack, which was delicious and satisfying, and my friend had a Heineken beer. I've been here many times, and I've never left unsatisfied with my meal. They have a carving station behind the bar so that you can watch them make sandwiches. In the warmer months, you can dine outside under a tent, which is a nice touch. Their restrooms are clean. Sandy's is in a small strip mall right off business Rt 1, with ample parking. It's non-smoking, wheelchair accessible, cash or card accepted, and service is good and usually quick, but sometimes it gets packed, and you may have to wait, but it's well worth it. The prices are fair, and your meals usually include pickles and chips. Sandy's is kid-friendly, with a child-size menu just for them. I highly recommend giving this place a try, especially if there is a game you don't want to miss. read more

Could not believe a place nicknamed famous roast beef sandwich, has uncooked, gristle laden, chewy fat sandwiches. I told the waitress how bad it was and got a shoulder shrug. Avoid this fire trap. There are better places for your money nearby. I was vacationing from the west coast. read more

Yessir this is exactly what I was hoping for while in the Philly suburbs. This place is busy, with standing high tops near the door, booths and tables to one side, and a big ovular bar to the other. The beer floweth, the tvs gloweth, and good times for all are waiting to be had. Accompanied by a local, I ordered the classic beef sandwich, the Old Bay fries (servied with queso omg omg), and a pitcher of Yuengling. My goodness, it was all perfect. Nothing fancy, nothing gourmet, just honest and delicious and you know, not healthy. haha I'm so glad places like Sandy's exist and are bustling, serving the local population and keeping it 110% real. We came here for lunch under their open-air tent in the parking lot. The waitress was nice and efficient to start with, but her service waned as the meal went on. Maybe she was spread too thin with too many tables? She recommended the roast beef, as it's the most popular item. We both had roast beef sandwiches, but got them as lunch specials: 1/2 a sandwich and soup. Hubby asked if he could get the chili as his soup, and it was not a problem I just went with the soup of the day, pasta fagioli, an Italian pasta and bean soup. Overall, the meal was good. My hubby really liked the flavor of the roast beef. I felt it was a bit dry and would have liked for it to be cut thinner. She graciously brought me some really nice au jus when I asked. Not what i expected as far as a restaurant/bar. Walked in and gor hit in the face with all these different booze smells, which made me feel nauseous. Everyone looked at me and my group as we stood awkwardly waiting to see if we had to seat ourselves. We weren't sure what the set up was, and noone came over to help us. But luckily we saw our friends at the bar. They had a famous roast beef sandwich which i was excited to eat, cause they prepared the meat in front of everyone at the bar. The beef was stacked on the bun but was chewy and rough. Not tender and easy to chew. I ordered a salad also and it was tasty but didnt have croutons which Wouldve made it better. Walking into Sandy's was like walking back in time, in a good way. The scenery was very welcoming and homey. From the outside it appears like it would be larger on the inside. Booths along the right side of the restaurant, round tables with chairs and a large bar off center. Equipped with a small game room in the back corner. We ordered two dozen hot wings with ranch and old bay fries with American cheese on the side, that came out in 15 minutes, and I ordered The Godfather which is a chicken parmigiana on a Kaiser roll with pepperoni and two long hot peppers. The wings were hot, crispy and had a good amount of sauce on them and at the bottom of the basket. The fries were excellent. My sandwich was great. I ate half and had the second half for lunch the other day. Surprisingly, the left over sandwich was much tastier. We look forward to coming back and trying their roast beef and roast pork. read more

I like my food a lot! I've passed by Sandy's a million times, but recently a friend asked me how I liked the place. Hearing I had never been, she suggested we go to lunch ASAP. Today was the day. I took her advice and ordered a roast pork sandwich with provolone & a cut of au jus on the side. I've splurged and got fries instead of chips for $2.25 extra. It was absolutely a delicious meal. The pork was flavorful and meltingly tender, the roll was perfect & the fries hot and crisp. I could only eat half the sandwich and plan to have it for lunch tomorrow. Others in my party had soup (pasta fajoli) they loved and half sandwiches. One of those halves was a yummy turkey and the other the roast pork. They loved the food. I want to say how terrific the service was.. Quick, professional and friendly. I can't wait to go back! read more
