This place had the best green chili cheeseburger I have ever eaten. The service was also really good. They had these little free tablets you could use to play trivia, which was a lot of fun. Horrible service! The bartender was turning away paying customers because she wasn't getting tipped. She had a horrible attitude, having inappropriate conversations in earshot for customer's to hear (talking about sexual things) I couldn't believe she turned away three paying customers while we were sitting at the bar "you can't order anything else, you're not tipping us" if she had a better attitude she would probably get tipped. She's rude, no professionalism, and dressed really trashy. The bouncer was really nice. Older gentleman, shorter. Great local bar! I might not have gone in but this place is our friends' favorite haunt for beer and trivia. It was stop 2 on our quest for the perfect chili cheeseburger. It turned out to be a winner. They have a nice selection of draft beer, great service, and an *excellent* cheeseburger! I tried the Spicy Southwest Burger and she had the Green Chili Bacon and Cheeseburger. Both were fantastic, good meat, nicely spiced peppers and potato buns which did not outshine the meat. I was also very pleased to see that they took the doneness of the meat very seriously. I asked for medium rare and she asked for medium and they did it perfectly! Our first time at slate street was a couple weeks ago, despite living in the neighborhood for the last 7 years. I hear good things on local radio 96.3, so we finally decided to try it out. Good fried bar food, but overpriced IMO.... And the trio of signature egg rolls were gummy and all tasted the same. Bartender was nice, but definitely overwhelmed because she was serving the entire place. Cook was also overwhelmed, he was the only one in the kitchen and just couldn't keep up. We decided we should play a little pool. You enter it's clean. Go to the bar to open a tab and get your table number and balls, $5.00/hour. The pool tables are clean, level, all there equipment is well maintained. No smoking inside which is a plus. Fun, relaxing and a good jukebox. We didn't eat, we had beer. Very good. read more

Had the worst service I ever had. Guess I pissed off the bartender. She made it very obvious she wasn't going to take my order. Checked on all her regulars and left me hanging. I put a ten under my half drunk beer and headed down to O'Hares which has the consist hood service all the time. I won't be back and can't recommend this place at all. read more

I only have one night in town, walked in and got immediate service at the bar... ordered a Whiskey & Ginger Ale which was waiting for me before I finished my sentence. Not only did we wait long to be served a drink (mind you she was walking back and forth and helping people besides us), the bartender was totally ignoring us after trying to flag her down to try and get a menu. After repeatedly trying I tried to cash out with the other server and could not due to it only being the bartender and then she finally came and asked if we wanted to cash out. I wouldn't be writing a review if we hadn't tried to get her attention multiple times and her making eye contact but simply ignoring us. The service was TERRIBLE. Would not recommend. This place is absolutely horrible! The service is slow. The staff is rude. The food is terrible (and cold). When we first walked in, I thought it was going to be a great place. Boy was I wrong! While sitting at the bar drinking my WATER and waiting for my boyfriend to finish up, the clearly overly served lady was beginning to cause a scene. I came here on a Sunday to watch some football. Nice place. I wish it was closer to my house, though. Lots of pool tables and plenty of room. The tables look nice and well-maintained. It's very clean and modern. For sports, it's set up fairly well. There are lots of TVs of different sizes all around the place. On game day, they turn different games on in different areas, which allows like-minded fans to gather together. Their beer selection was impressive, with several of my local favorites, though the waitress wasn't fully versed on some of the beers their carried. My wife had a bloody mary and said it was very good. The food is not bad. About what you would expect, although their fries were excellent. I had the New Mexico turkey sandwich (I think every place in town has their own version of this). The chiles were HOT, but oh so tasty. Nice job. Service was painfully slow (40 minutes for a basket of fries? Really?), but picked up when they finally got another cook in the kitchen, apparently. The good: The service is excellent. One server in particular, Erin, has remembered my name every time I've come in. The food is decent--basic bar food. The smoking patio is nice. There are tons and tons of pool tables and lots of places to sit. TVs with sports are everywhere if that's your thing. They have some local beers on tap plus a full bar. The bad: It gets packed when there are fights or other high-demand sporting events. It also just gets packed on weekends. Sometimes (rarely) you might have to wait for a pool table. That's only if it's crazy. The location is less than ideal, but not if you live on the west side. Overall: A nice spot to hang out if you're on the west side and want to watch some sports. Or play pool. Or just drink on a pretty good-sized patio. Be prepared for crowds on certain nights and, if there's a fight, be prepared for a cover. I am a brandy drinker and have been there and had one or two drinks and had them suddenly tell me my drink price had more than doubled because they "ran out" of brandy. The bar was not that busy at all and we had a table. Waited there for about 20 minutes and got no service, so we went up to the bar and ordered our drinks. After we sat down at our table, the waitress decided to come by. We didn't get service again after. Place was dirty and featured all the typical characteristics of a good ol watering hole.
