We really enjoyed our first visit to Howies. We had great service and they had beer and wine that we liked at very reasonable prices. They have a very limited menu with main courses being pizza and wings and lots of fried appetizers. If you want a salad, don't come here to eat. However, the wings were delicious as was the fried mushrooms and zucchini. Lots of TVs to watch sports and they had some pool tables. It was a fun sports bar! read more

I used to come to this bar very often, especially with it being right down the street from my family's home... well after tonight and me being from out of state the bartender grabbed my bag and threw it back at me and said get it off the table... she was very disrespectful and when I asked, why do I need to remove it? He started to get loud and very rude and for that reason I will not be coming back and putting up with this bullshit.!!! read more

I absolutely adore reading trash reviews for a dive bar. Did you truly NOT know what you were walking into? Grow up and understand that dive bars are an institution and shall always remain top dog! Millennials will never understand and should stick to the breweries! Pro tip: if you walk into a dark bar, it's a dive, if that's not your vibe, cool, move onto one of the other 500 bars within 5 miles and stop the trash talk along the way! I came in for a beer on a Saturday late afternoon/early evening and was treated with nothing but respect and great service. I have seen every walk of life, which is what makes a true dive! I'm not a regular patron at Howie's maybe a handful of times because it's too far from where i live, but if I'm in the area I'll stop by for a drink. I've never had a bad experience here with staff. I like to write reviews on places I have visited at least twice, so when I saw this nasty review that was uncalled for and not the truth I am even more delighted to write this review! I happen to be here last night and was very annoyed by a punk little girl that had walked in and ordered shots.. big deal right! However, she got noticeably upset when she got carded by the bartender! Obviously the establishment has to card customers especially when you look like you're 10 years old with an obnoxious child's attitude! They have to card you stupid! Then she started mouthing off taking pictures of staff even though she was politely asked to stop! I was impressed with the way the bartender handled your behavior! Grow up little girl! Turns out your barely 21 go figure! Maybe go back to "Chuckee Cheese" where you work with kids your own age! That's exactly how you behaved! From what I hear mostly regulars come to Howie's and has been open for years, so obviously they are doing something right! Just like every place there's always going to be those few stupids that think they are entitled to-act a fool just because they lack class and dignity. It's a shame because other customers shouldn't have to deal with the environment you create just because you're ignorant and immature! Suggestion, if you don't like an establishment don't go back! But this same individual has been there before with drama of course! I would hope they never let you in their place again! I surely wouldn't! So conclusion of my review, drinks are reasonably priced food is good but if you're expecting 5 star food at a bar well sorry for you, maybe you should instead make reservations at Vintage on Paseo! Some people just like to complain no matter where they are so you would probably complain there too! Staff here are awesome! I don't know who would appreciate dealing with an immature, obnoxious drunk and be okay with it! This is a great little "hole in the wall" location with friendly and professional staff! It's dark inside with a large/long bar and plenty to offer! Food is good and plenty of TV's to watch for various sports. Pool tables and dart boards. Need to unwind after work? Need to be anonymous? Want to be alone with another with being noticed? Highly recommend avoiding this place. Jon, the owner, is beyond unprofessional. He was drunk at the bar all night and barely able to keep his eyes open. He came up to our group and tried to feel up my sister. Both bartenders, Bri and Buddy, continued to allow it to happen even though we tried to communicate that we were uncomfortable. We went to the bathroom and suddenly got told to leave and that we "weren't welcome back" after getting told to leave. Clearly not a professional environment and it's unfortunate that the owner got his feelings hurt to the point we needed to be escorted out and close the bar early. The snarky attitude by the drunk owner and bartenders is absolutely disgusting. Godspeed to whomever chooses this bar. It doesn't even making my last resort list. read more

There is a flavor in their mix that I can't quite pinpoint which I wasn't 100% on, olive juice or lemons maybe? Maybe add Worcestershire? Howie's is off the grid from the usual Albuquerque dive bar experience but I'm sure the neighborhood locals like it that way. I was spotted as an outsider right away but I was treated very well at this local neighborhood hangout, great vibe, music, sports on the numerous TVs, and very clean. The sweetest man owns this joint. Hands down best divey bar I've been to. The simplicity and kindness they offer is definitely a catch. Drinks are good and well priced. Fancy - no. Fun - yes! Good food - no. Good drinks - yes! This place reminds me of the bars in the middle of nowhere WI. It's dark, lots or wood, bathrooms could be nicer, and beer signs galore. The prices are very fair and the people are nice. It's also a Badger/Packer bar in ABQ - what could be better? They are also great at accommodating groups and have tons of TVs showing different games. Two warnings: 1. They do serve appetizers, but no meals. 2.
