What a locals place! Great food, super Massachusetts vibe. We had a great meal and drinks at this place. One of our party was a dishwasher here as a kid, and is still treated like family as an adult. Our bartender/ order taker was so great and had a super attitude. We felt at home and had a great time. I apologize for lack of pictures but believe me the food we had was excellent. Ok, so I don't have any photos for this review, but don't let that stop you from reading. I can't believe it took us this long to find a great Irish bar and grill close to home! The staff that we interacted with on this trip were Outstanding! They made us laugh and even though it was our first time in (for all but one of our group) they made us feel like we'd been coming there for years! Went here last week with a couple of friends, we told the girl at the door we were meeting friends and we would wait at the bar for them. Consistently good service and food! This time around we ordered the Greek sampler app and onion soup. Really nice soup. One of the best onion soup broths I've had in awhile though I don't love the cheese. Entrees we did the bad boy sandwich. Huge portion and delicious. And the other "entree" was the meatballs on the app section of the menu (fantastic though a bit chilled, I assume they were accidentally made at the same time as our apps and held back) a side of perfectly steamed broccoli and their mashed cauliflower. I've had the antipasto before, this was lacking a lot today. It had barely any filling it was mostly lettuce and vegetables which is not why you get antipasto. I am not even sure if there was one full slice of cheese and salami/ ham COMBINED in it. The zucchini sticks and chicken sticks were good, although I would suggest for takeout they put them in separate containers. I've never had barbecue zucchini before, but well ,what are you gonna do? I struggled to write this review (and whether to give it 2 or 3 stars... I was generous and gave it 3... 2.5 would be more fitting)... the ambiance is great, the service is quick and friendly, the food is good, drinks were fantastic, HOWEVER... I got the thinnest pizza that fits on a plate for TWENTY dollars. I expected to be blown away with that price, but it was pretty okay. My husband upgraded the chips that came with his wrap for $4.50 (!!!) to sweet potato fries. It was the saddest amount of sweet potato fries I've ever seen. Again, for the price I expected more. Side note: why have four TVs in the bar if they're going to all be playing the same thing? Kind of a trivial point, but something we noticed. I'm pretty disappointed because I looked forward to coming here, but I don't think we'll come back considering the price point and the amount of food you get. Swung in after my son graduated from college. Immediately the staff came over and made us feel comfortable. I asked a ton of questions about the menu for my first time here. I settled on turkey dinner. My wife got a cobb salad. The waitress said both were good and she was so right. So good and I loved every bite. Qe had chicks and sticks as an app. That was zucchini and chicken. Maybe an 7 out of 10 for apps. The food was a 10/10. In addition to food questions, I had a ton about beer. I tend to think of Slatts as a bar scene, rather than a restaurant but the food is surprisingly good and consistent. My favorite thing to get here is the appetizer sampler with the zucchini sticks (YUM) and the boneless wings with their special sauce. I can't remeber the name but it's delish! I've tried a few entrees and sandwiches here and they're all yummy. My parents love coming here when they visit me at school. My mom swears by their sweet potato fries. The chicken picatta is also really yummy even though the presentation isn't great! It is a lemony buttery sauce with tender chicken, artichoke hearts and capers; perfect comfort food! If you're a drinker; you gotta try the Fitchburg iced tea. It may not be officially on the menu but it's their signature drink and blows a Long Island out of the water. read more

I ordered the Mac and Cheese and Margarita Flatbread, and both dishes were terrible (especially the Mac and Cheese). I don't know what's in their 3 cheese béchamel sauce, but the dish was extremely sweet and off-putting. I could only eat a few bites because the Mac and Cheese was swimming in sweet cheese sauce. Absolutely DISGUSTING. The Margarita pizza was better, but it was very burnt. While eating the pizza, all I could taste was the burnt flavor. Not to mention the food was extremely overpriced. Won't be getting food from here again and will not be recommending this restaurant to any of my family or friends. read more

We were from out of town and decided to give this place a try after going back-and-forth with our decision after reading the reviews so we didn't have high expectations Overall. our experience was positive. The service was quick and our waitress was friendly. The drinks, food and dessert was better than we expected. The carrot cake is to die for and highly recommended. We also enjoyed the atmosphere, the decor is dark wood and dimly lit, we like that. He sat near the bar area, which had a cool vibe. All in all it was positive and great experience until we got the bill. They charged $5 for a kids soda which was pretty much the same price as their meal. And they also up-charged us for selecting a different side ( due to allergy). The desserts were delicious, but they were $10 each. For a party of 2 adults and 2 children, the bill was $ 130 plus tax. Again, everything was great. It's just a little more expensive than we would've liked. I would recommend but be prepared to pay. read more

Ordered chicken pot pie off the specials menu tonight...very disappointed... for one it was 17$... it came in a dish with a rock hard pie crust on top...highly doubt it was fresh...I pulled the top off to see a bowl of gravy and chicken..there was no crust inside..it came with a side dish of mash potatoes, so I'm not sure if they expect you to remove this pie top and mix the potatoes in or just eat them separate? I mixed them into the dish and put the pie top off to the side.. this was not a chicken pot pie it was a chicken soup with a side of mashed potatoes. And as for the filling it was very generic tasting..nothing fresh or crisp about the veggies...which were peas and carrots. This place has gotten worse and worse every time I go here. Iv had work functions here and I swear the last time I had ordered the chicken parm and the chicken was a chicken patty from the grocery store.. Long story short, over priced very mediocre food. This place is a hole! And not a hole-in-the-wall hidden gem. A smelly, dark, dingy, hole. Ok, in fairness, it's not actually smelly. But the flys buzzing around don't instill confidence in the cleaning habits of the kitchen staff. Do not be deceived by the appetizing menu and high end pricing! Most of the food tastes like frozen, microwaved/reheated slop. If there is one thing Slattery's excels at, it is disappointment. Place was empty and yet service was non-existent. The few times she did visit, she was argumentative. The stuffed portabella mushrooms seemed to be reheated from last weeks left-overs and they were stuffed with last years Betty Crocker thanksgiving instant stuffing. The dressing for the beet salad seemed to be an amalgamation of the grease and dish soap that collects around the drain in the sink - disgusting. As for the Veal Parm, this was just another microwaved disaster. I wonder if they actually have a stove or oven in their kitchen? If they do, I imagine they must look brand new as they've clearly never been used. The marinara sauce was straight out of a can and lightly seasoned with death... or some other black, burned substance. My wife's Chicken Parm was a frozen chicken patty with canned tomato sauce. All in all, the food here most reminded me of the cafeteria food in public elementary schools in the 1980s. So if you're nostalgic for Friday elementary school pizza, this might be the place for you. Or, maybe you just want to go somewhere else and get a half decent meal. Seriously, never go here! read more

Went with a Co-worker for dinner while in town based on Yelp ratings. We were underwhelmed. If you want my comparison check out Conrad's in Norwood, MA. Food- 2.5 stars. First off the menu is all over the place, no real focus. Appetizer (little havana's) was poorly described on menu and was a sandwich when it came out. What kinda appetizer is a sandwich? It was also dry and lacking in flavor. Burger was O.K. but nothing to write home about. Fries were low quality (lots of tiny pieces and ends). Co-worker got Chicken/Broccoli/Ziti. She said it was fine but also nothing special. Atmosphere- 4 Stars, I like the bar in the front and the general atmosphere is friendly/homey. Drinks- 2 stars. First I asked for a special beer they had on the menu, they were out, no big deal. Then I asked for another one, she wasn't sure had to check. When it did come there was a fruit fly floating in it, but it took so long I almost drank it anyways. Then when I ordered a different beer there was stuff floating in it, my guess is the taps aren't used enough and the lines were dirty, which is disgusting. Service- 3 Stars. I got the loaded nachos today. The cheese was some kind of liquid cheese that smothered the navo chips and made them soggy. I got the cheesecake for dessert and it was quite average. Extremely pricey for a bar in Fitchburg and the bartenders are all super rude. The juke box is always backed up by hours if you put on a song you will most likely not hear it. I've been coming to Slattery's for years, but I live out of the area now. I recently dined there with family and friends on a visit home. The atmosphere is dated, no getting around that. I'm not sure if it's been updated in 15 years (or more). However, this minor con is far outweighed by the pros. The menu is diverse and varied. I see where other Yelpers cite that as a negative - which I can usually understand - but Slattery's seems to do everything well, so I don't see it as an issue. On the contrary, Slattery's is the type of place where you can go with a bunch of people in the mood for a bunch of different things and everyone's likely to come away full and happy. Our server, who's name I can't recall, has been at Slattery's forever. She's always prompt and cheerful and this recent visit was no exception. Service couldn't have been better and the food came out quick and tasty. Zucchini sticks, clam chowder and chix fry (or Bad Boy) are mandatory. We were in the area and decided to try this place on a friend's recommendation. We went for lunch. It wasn't crowded. The service was excellent and the food delicious. Everything is home made. For pub like setting the menu is huge and eclectic. I had chicken and waffles. Very tasty. Boneless hand dipped fried chicken on top of a crispy waffle. Comes with a side of tots as well as maple syrup and homemade chicken gravy. I had a cup of clam chowder to start and that was decent too. My husband had the hot turkey sandwich. Real carved turkey, not deli meat...served open faced with homemade gravy and a couple sides. We were too full for dessert but based on this first meal we would definitely go back. read more

When in the Fitchburg area, I always wonder where we are going to hang out with friends. Fitchburg isn't exactly a town with great bars. Slattery's is just average. The beer selection is not great. There is a limited amount of beer on tap, but they usually have a selection of some season beers. While the space looks large, it fills up quick. It is probably because this is the only good bar near the college. It isn't unbearable when it is busy though, just a little tight to move around. read more

If you're coming here for the service, you will be greatly disappointed. It is worse than poor. Waitresses have attitudes, and are not attentive to their tables. On average, you will wait many minutes before your server comes over just to take your initial drink order. As for the food, it's very average. The menu is big, but nothing really stands out as a "must have". They have burgers, chops, pasta, sandwiches, and even have some Italian and Chinese entrees. This place has no business selling a "margharita flat bread". No sauce and no spinach comes on it. It's just melted Parmesan cheese with dollops of mozzarella. Slattery's is such a disappointing place to eat. When I was in college 20 years ago at FSC, "Slat's" was THE place to go in the area to get good food and a great drink. It was so busy that you almost always had to wait for a table and the place was filled with local politicians and residents. Always hopping, always buzzing. No more. I don't know what happened, but the place has really gone down hill. Their menu hasn't change in years and the food is exactly as it was 20 years ago ... seriously, their chicken salad sandwich is still WAY too much bland chicken with mayo on a huge slab of French bread. It's OK at best and certainly isn't anything worth going out of your way for anymore, not when there are so many restaurants in the area now. I went in last week at the height of the lunch rush and the place was EMPTY save a few people at the bar and two or three tables. I asked the waitress about it and she conceded that business had declined steadily over the years. It's really too bad because the place was so great. The menu is simply ridiculously large and cumbersome to manage and it shows in the lack of quality food. Here's hoping management changes because it would be great to have a local, Irish pub in the area that serves great food. read more

Ever go to a restaurant that serves LOTS of great food, but you seem to find yourself ordering the same one or two things every time? Yeah...Slattery's is no exception. On a busy street corner of Lunenburg St in Fitchburg MA, you will probably drive right by it for the 1st time. A dimly lit sign on the side of the building is all you'll see. The front entrance is a bar...and the side/rear entrance is the dining room. Once inside, you'll find a decent sized dining room...with a bar of its own. Staff is friendly and courteous...and for the most part, very attentive to their tables. The atmosphere is cozy and you can sip on some cocktails while waiting. Even Keno is available for you gamblers. Zucchini Sticks: World Famous! Well, that is what the menu says...if the world COULD try them, I am sure they would be! This appetizer is the best! And prepare to share with about 2-4 of your friends as the mound of zucchini is high. They're lightly deep fried in a perfect batter of bread crumbs...and come with a side of creamy horseradish sauce. They are really good, so be sure to try them. Of everyone that I introduced to this appetizer, everyone has enjoyed them. Chicken, Ziti and Broccoli: A really great entree... You'll be introduced to a huge bowl of pasta, chicken and broccoli sauteed in Olive Oil with a garlic all around. I've tried other similar dishes at other places, but Slattery's still as the best. This dish is 2 meals easily. Salt to taste is the only advice here. Sometimes it needs just a little. Chix-Fry: Who doesn't love a deep fried chicken cutlet?! This one is sure to please too. Served on a toasted slab of French bread...with lettuce, tomato, onion and Russian Dressing. The only reason it gets 4 stars is unfortunately it comes with potato chips and a pickle. In fact, I think all their sandwiches come like that...for another $2 you can get their hand-cut fries...which are pretty good, but not great. read more

You know that feeling you get when you're seated at a restaurant and you're all optimistic about the changes they've made recently and just can't wait to have a good experience? I had that. Then we sat at our table for 10 minutes waiting to be acknowledged by the wait staff and watched the 2 parties seated after you get served warmly, and our waitress finally wandered into the dining room and looked surprised to have a table to wait on. The was the tone of our entire dining experience last night. Dammit, why couldn't we get one of the other two competent, friendly waitresses? We ordered a beer & a cocktail from the bar; slow service, for no apparent reason. Wanted to try the gazpacho and cheese platter from the seasonal menu insert; sorry, we don't have those anymore. Why give us 2 menus for things you don't have? Grr. Ok, I'll tried the zucchini sticks with boneless wings; can you tell me about the house sauce for the wings? It's good, people like it the waitress tells me. Yes, but is it sweet? Spicy? BBQ? Give me some sort of descriptor, please.... she can't, she's never tried the sauce. Grr. Ok, I'll gamble. The sauce was (to me) basically Frank's sweet chili sauce. The wings were good. The zucchini sticks looked really great but you've got to let them cool before eating them, and in doing so they got soggy. Meh. On to desert; we shared a slice of Baileys cheesecake... that was obviously previously frozen. I understand that most deserts like that are previously frozen in restaurants, but you shouldn't be able to taste that in your first bite. Grr. Slattery's is a great place to go for a meal or to watch a game in the bar. The beer selection is always pretty good with plenty of interesting selections to choose from. Make sure to check out the chicken wings with the CJ's pub sauce which are great. The menu selection is really diverse and everything is very tasty. Burgers, sandwiches and paninis don't come with fries unless you ask so make sure you do. They also have really good sweet potato fries which you can order too. The only thing I haven't gotten here is a steak so I'm not sure how good they are. I always eat in the bar as you don't have to wait and I like the atmosphere better in there anyways, but the dining room is nice. The parking can be a pain sometimes as their lot is small and always full, but you can park on all the streets around it. read more
