Popped over here on a work trip and ate at the bar. The staff seemed a little flustered as there was a larger than expected holiday party that they weren't prepared for. Service was a little slow but not unbearable. The restaurant was decorated nicely for the holidays and not overdone. You could tell that this was a local place for some folks and a place to come for out of towners as well. The chowder was tasty but nothing amazing. Warmed me up which is really all I wanted. The meatball sub was also pretty tasty, not the best I've ever had but definitely not the worst. The truffle fries were the highlight and I definitely recommend upgrading to those - worth the extra buck or two. We almost passed on going here because of the Yelp rating but someone recommended it so we tried it out. Glad we did! We had 5 in our party and our waitress was absolutely wonderful. We all had different sandwiches and they were delicious. It was a busy Saturday night but the booths have high dividers that fit 6 comfortably and blocked a lot of outside noise. I live on the east coast but would come back to the Horseshoe if I'm ever back in this area. If you are looking for good drink and pub food this is the place to go. read more

Hudson is definitely an underrated town for restaurants. We stopped in here and it has a nice large bar area that had an acoustic guitar singer. The bar area was separate from the dining area so it allowed you to enjoy a quiet dinner if that is what you are looking for. The restaurant area had some nice large booths for bigger parties and some small intimate ones as well. The beer list was huge and offered something for everyone. They also had some cool cocktails to choose from. The menu was large enough that anyone could find something. The waitress was very nice and checked in frequently. Wife is on keto and they were very accommodating. She had the big bird and loved it. I tried the Fluffer Clucker. A fried chicken sandwich with peanut butter and fluff. It all started with the angry young male host at the front door that sat us in an almost empty restaurant next to the bathrooms. Then it progressed to the service ... the waitress was barely around... brought our salads 15 minutes after we ordered them. The food came out... ordered the burnt end turkey tips which were definitely burned... they were OK but it appears they gobbed bbq sauce all over them ... the Cold slaw was awful, I got a big old block of burned corn bread and pucks of cold butter. My wife had the beef tips which were mediocre. Nice spot for this place but much can be improved. Passed on 110 Griile to give em a try. We won't be back. First, Cassandra, my server is a lovely young woman with a positive attitude. I had her pick an IPA from an extensive varied drink list. It was great. The menu is extensive but I love fish tacos with a side of sweet potato fries. The latter were the best I've ever had. The fish tacos were the worst and I'll never return. In a large soft taco lay a tiny breaded fish stick with a tablespoonful of slaw. If the three, I combined two and, they were only warm. If you can't figure out a simple dish like fish tacos, I'm suspect of the restaurants ability to make other dishes well. So, the positives: the server, my IPA and the fries. Sloop Brewing's Juice Bomb moved near the top of my hazy IPA list. Brewed in New York, this citrus forward flavor ending with a touch of bitterness is just what the doctor ordered. The perfect food pairing had to be the bourbon glazed sirloin tips. Cooked medium, as requested, and served with a bed of mashed potatoes and green beans made this meal highly enjoyable. Not only did this sweet bourbon glaze bring out all the richness from the sirloin, it was a perfect addition taking the silky mashed potatoes to another level. We have been coming to the Horseshoe Pub for over 15 years. Unfortunately, it has gone down hill over the years. We gave Oktoberfest another try after being disappointed a couple of years ago. We sat at the bar and the bartender was awesome. It was busy but she was attentive to us and very calm. Very good experience. The number of Oktoberfest beers was fewer than we remember but we found one we liked. The real issue for the HP is the food. I had the Jager schnitzel (pork) and it was very, very over fried. There was a gooey, tasteless, brown gravy smeared on top. I was looking forward to the red cabbage and unfortunately found that they now put a very small amount on your plate and then spread it around to make you think it is a healthy portion. It's just like a kid spreading food around their plate to make it look like they ate a lot. Same situation for the spatzle, small amount but have to say that was not a big deal to me as it was tasteless. My husband's Wiener schnitzel was much better but I still wouldn't order it again. We gave dessert a try, dry bread pudding. This needs something like whipped cream or ice cream if it is going to be so dry. Just sad for this place that used to be a real go to in Hudson. read more

We really wanted to eat outside over the weekend. Even though it was cool and possibly going to rain, they accommodated us. The outdoor heaters were on, and the umbrellas were up. Our server couldn't have been nicer, even though she had to go outside to our table. I got a Caesar salad in a Parmesan shell. It was so cool and yummy. well it has been a while since i have been here....next to a large usually pretty filled parking area, but did find a spot near by...large rambling place with multiple rooms...we ate at the bar with dave the bartender who was interesting and amusing....drinks were good and as ordered...we had the reuben app which was wonderful, we saved some to eat at home...sandwiches, a chicken fluffer??? and a burger both very good and to finish up i had this weird drink with a bottle of prosecco hanging out...all were very good and interesting...not really close to us but we will be back!!! read more

Our group's dinner here did not start well, thanks to a couple of waitress miscommunications, but once they were resolved, dinner and drinks here turned out to be enjoyable. And we had the plus of being seated next to the musicians playing in the bar that evening. We were seated several minutes before anyone greeted us. Finally a waitress came over and took our drink order. Two minutes after that, a second waitress came over to take our drink order. Evidently this second waitress would be our actual waitress, so we gave her our dinner order. When the first waitress returned with our drinks, mine beer was wrong. I had ordered a stout but was served a sour (everyone else's orders were good). It took several more minutes to flag down either waitress, but once that was done, we proceeded to the enjoyment portion of our evening. The portions here are pretty good. That included my chicken pot pie, a bit unique in style with its puff pastry crust and served in a cast iron skillet. My only complaint is that it was very bright and I wish they could have toned down the lights just a bit. They have outdoor seating, but it was a little too cool that night that I went. I came here a few days ago for a work outing. It was my first time ever eating here and although my experience wasn't horrible, I most likely won't return to this establishment. The food was very bland and not at all anything I would want to eat again. I ordered the Garden Portofino pasta because I was in the mood for a creamy pasta dish and this one said it came in "creamy Alfredo sauce" on the menu so I figured it would be the perfect meal for me and I was VERY wrong. It definitely came in some type of sauce but that sauce was neither creamy nor Alfredo, it was so runny and watery and didn't even taste like it had cheese in it. The dish as a whole had very little seasoning and I know it wasn't just my meal only because other people at my table had the same complaints about their meals also. I will however say that their service was top notch! Our waitress had to serve our big party of 20+ people all by herself and she did it so effortlessly. We came on a Saturday night ... so as you can imagine, packed doesn't even begin to describe this place. It's HUGE! There is one side which is a restaurant and the other is the bar. We got a lucky spot as someone was pulling out after we circled the huge and full lot a couple times and were ready to leave and find street parking nearby. There must have been hundreds of cars in the lot, so my guess is they share it. Hudson is a small town, which has lately been growing. All the young-ish professionals and families who cannot afford the Sudbury, Westborough, Wayland real estate but want a picturesque country town in Central Massachusetts settle here. The result is a revitalized Main Street with several breweries and gastro pubs. It's a little version of Los Angeles' Silver Lake with young-ish hipster people intermixing with older locals. The Main Street looks oddly like a revitalized 1800's Western movie-set with square and rectangular storefronts. It looks more like a movie-set location than an actual town. We were there for the beer list more than anything ... so we went straight to the bar area which was packed. Again, we lucked out and found a seat-yourself high top table. We would have preferred the bar but there were people 2 deep there, so we were just happy to sit. The high tops have waitress service and our waitress was extremely pleasant. We apologized that we were only there to drink and split an appetizer vs. have a meal as we had late dinner reservations at Gibbet Hill Grill in a few hours. She couldn't have been nicer and told us that was totally fine. Even in the midst of being packed, she even offered to bring us samples of beer before we decided. The beer selection here is amazing. It comes with it's own menu that is several pages long ... and that's JUST for the draft beers! You can see the tap handles behind the bar which stretch at least 20 feet. Given the huge selection, I was a bit surprised that there wasn't anything that stuck out for me ... or was incredibly hard to find and rare. I was thinking if anyplace had Heady Topper-type of brews on tap, this would be the place. The best choice we found was Lawson's Sip of Sunshine, which in fairness isn't the easiest beer to find on draft. They also had Fuller's ESB, which is hard to find on tap outside of London. I was surprised that they didn't have a cask beer. The crowd here is a typical Central Massachusetts crowd of proud 'massholes'. I don't say that to be cruel ... that's how they refer to themselves! The Saturday night dinner crowd will be wearing lots of hoodies, track jackets, Patriots logo gear, sweatpants and 90's jeans ... and we find that generally Central Massachusetts folks tend to look 10 years older than they actually are. Probably has something to do with the fact that 90% of the menu here is fried or covered in a cream sauce ... or both. "Buffalo" is not only a sauce but its own food group in Central Massachusetts. You'll hear a lot of people shouting across the bar, "Hey Jawnie ... Luhk at thah scaw of the game. Wicked fuckin' bahd huh?" I don't say all that to be mean ... Central Massachusetts folks are one part angry 'bahstids' ... and one part 'funny bahstids'. There's no mistaking it's a local spot here. Outsiders are tolerated but if you do something dumb, be prepared to be called on it. "Heeeey Tracey ... Luhk at the brawd ovah thah ... she don't know that yah sahposed to wait in line fuh the jawn." The food was good solid pub food ... the kind of stuff you eat before going on a strict diet. Portions are big but so are the prices ... that's the thing which shocked us most. A burger was around $16 or $17. Meatloaf was just under $20. I don't think I've seen prices this high at a laid back pub, although I've heard that because of the minimum wage hike, prices have gone up at many restaurants by 20-25% ... and I'd believe it here. Overall, if you can avoid this place during the weekend rush, do so. But, the beer selection alone makes it worth coming. It's crowded and a bit tight space-wise ... but for good old-fashioned, unhealthy pub food and an amazing selection of beer, this spot can't be beat. We also found that it had the most similar feel to a local-pub in England that we have found since coming back from a London stay. I give it a solid 3 stars ... it's average/good. Not amazing. The waitstaff is wonderful but the sandwich I ordered was so disappointing. If I wanted a loaf of bread I would have gone to a bakery. Being Fat Tuesday I saw a piece on TV about the Muffuletta, a sandwich invented by Sicilians in New Orleans and is popular on Fat Tuesday. So I ordered it and drove a half hour to pick it up. When I took it home, opened the container and saw a large piece of bread with a small layer of a slice of cheese, and a could of slices of cold cuts and barely visible evidence of olive spread. The fries were very nicely seasoned with Cajun seasoning but that didn't make up for what the sandwich was lacking. Will not be going back. read more
