The Whoopie pie was huge and easily fed 5 of us.

We almost passed on going here because of the Yelp rating but someone recommended it so we tried it out. Glad we did! We had 5 in our party and our waitress was absolutely wonderful. We all had different sandwiches and they were delicious. It was a busy Saturday night but the booths have high dividers that fit 6 comfortably and blocked a lot of outside noise. I live on the east coast but would come back to the Horseshoe if I'm ever back in this area. If you are looking for good drink and pub food this is the place to go.

Hudson is definitely an underrated town for restaurants. We stopped in here and it has a nice large bar area that had an acoustic guitar singer. The bar area was separate from the dining area so it allowed you to enjoy a quiet dinner if that is what you are looking for. The restaurant area had some nice large booths for bigger parties and some small intimate ones as well. The beer list was huge and offered something for everyone. They also had some cool cocktails to choose from. The menu was large enough that anyone could find something. The waitress was very nice and checked in frequently. Wife is on keto and they were very accommodating. She had the big bird and loved it. I tried the Fluffer Clucker. A fried chicken sandwich with peanut butter and fluff. Weird sounding but it worked.

    Bourbon Glazed Sirloin Tips*

Horse Shoe Pub is the legit definition of a pub. Flaunting nearly 80 beers on tap, there's literally something for every beer connoisseur's preference. Sloop Brewing's Juice Bomb moved near the top of my hazy IPA list. Brewed in New York, this citrus forward flavor ending with a touch of bitterness is just what the doctor ordered. The perfect food pairing had to be the bourbon glazed sirloin tips. Cooked medium, as requested, and served with a bed of mashed potatoes and green beans made this meal highly enjoyable. Not only did this sweet bourbon glaze bring out all the richness from the sirloin, it was a perfect addition taking the silky mashed potatoes to another level. Arriving thirsty and hungry, leaving fully satisfied.. couldn't ask for more.

We have been coming to the Horseshoe Pub for over 15 years. Unfortunately, it has gone down hill over the years. We gave Oktoberfest another try after being disappointed a couple of years ago. We sat at the bar and the bartender was awesome. It was busy but she was attentive to us and very calm. Very good experience. The number of Oktoberfest beers was fewer than we remember but we found one we liked. The real issue for the HP is the food. I had the Jager schnitzel (pork) and it was very, very over fried. There was a gooey, tasteless, brown gravy smeared on top. I was looking forward to the red cabbage and unfortunately found that they now put a very small amount on your plate and then spread it around to make you think it is a healthy portion. It's just like a kid spreading food around their plate to make it look like they ate a lot. Same situation for the spatzle, small amount but have to say that was not a big deal to me as it was tasteless. My husband's Wiener schnitzel was much better but I still wouldn't order it again. We gave dessert a try, dry bread pudding. This needs something like whipped cream or ice cream if it is going to be so dry. Just sad for this place that used to be a real go to in Hudson.

WOW! What a lovely surprise. My husband and I were just out driving around our old home town of…read moreHudson, MA and thought we'd grab a bite. Finnegans didn't look as busy as some of the eateries on Main Street so we thought cautiously we'd give it a try, knowing all the while that if its not busy it's usually a good sign to stay away. We walked into a warm and casual dining room that offered a bar in the main room with locals casually chatting over a few drinks. The bar clientele were not disruptive to our dining experience whatsoever. The service was fast and friendly and the menu had a nice varied menu of good old American food. Burgers, Fries, Fish, Chicken and Beef. I ordered the sirloin tips and my husband ordered the Fish and Chips. In what was a comfortable amount of time our food came to the table piping hot and absolutely delicious. The haddock was light, flaky and obviously fresh covered with a light breading that was perfectly season. The fries were hot and perfectly deep fried. My sirloin tips were exceptional, perfectly charred on the outside and a beef eaters delightful rare to medium rare inside. Marinated perfectly not overstated but just enough to enhance the delicious and tender tips. Not served with gravy or a mushy sauce of peppers and onions or whatever just perfectly cooked beef tips. I think they surely gave the nearby Wildwood Steakhouse a run for the money. My mashed potatoes were piping hot, lightly seasoned and tasted like home made with a home made texture and a few lumps. The veggies were fresh, perfectly cooked al dente' and I smiled as the chef Tom, peeked out the door to give and get a grateful thumbs up. A very pleasant evening out in a pub that certainly does not get enough raves about its fast and friendly service, and truly great food. One note, if its shift change time you might want to make sure that its your waitress that gets her tip before she leaves. Thanks Tom, we will be back.

Including pictures. * Ordered loaded onion rings - 5 jalapenos on top with a few bacon bits? * Ordered kids fish and chips for son - came out as chicken fingers. * Coleslaw that came with the "fish and chips" was rancid. Wife luckily took a bite and spit it out before my son did. I took a whiff of it. Beyond spoiled. I dont mind food tasting different for everyone, that's the fun of trying. But I draw the line at serving rotten food. Drinks are pretty good though! *Update I'll try again in a year. And no, didn't talk to the manager, this was takeout I ordered for the family. I have two kids, and my routine is down to the minute until bedtime *

The restaurant was also hosting a teacher appreciation event where teachers ate free which I thought was amazing of them even though I'm not a teacher. We had to wait a bit due to the demand that evening but it was not bad to stroll around a bit. They had pretty diverse staff and they were all very friendly and seemed committed to the restaurant and good service. They also seemed to know the menu quite well and proud that the restaurant makes everything from scratch! I got chimmichuri steak flat bread and my friend got a salad. We shared the seasoned fries. I would not think of these flat breads as pizza. Once you've mentally made that jump, the food is really good. I enjoyed it and it was a good amount as well. My friend also ordered food to go for her partner and our server was great to helping us time that order so it was ready for when we were leaving and still hot. Amazing service with great food and cute neighborhood. I think you can get dessert here but there's also a fun micro creamery across the street that was another delicious way to push deeper into food coma for the night!

Back for Seconds: A Review of Checkerboards Restaurant & Bar in Judson, MA…read moreThe Verdict: Round two, and I'm still here. That has to count for something, right? I returned to Checkerboards recently, mostly to confirm that the deliciousness of my first visit wasn't just a hunger-induced hallucination. I am happy to report that the pizza remains structurally sound and emotionally supportive. Here's the breakdown of the second outing: The Atmosphere: It has that classic "I'm here to eat 2,000 calories and I don't care who sees me" energy. It's cozy, it's bustling, and the checkered decor is still successfully keeping me from forgetting the name of the establishment. The Food: I dove into the pizza again because I'm a creature of habit and change scares me. The crust had that perfect "crunch-to-chew" ratio that scientists should really be studying more closely. It's the kind of pizza that makes you consider ordering a second one just to have as a pillow for the inevitable food coma. The Service: The staff is impressively fast. I'm convinced they have a psychic link with the kitchen. My drink arrived before I even fully realized I was thirsty, which is either great service or light sorcery. The "Second Visit" Realization: You know a place is good when you spend the entire car ride there debating if you should try something new, only to panic and order exactly what you had last time because the FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out... on that specific sauce) is too real. Final Thought: If you see me there a third time, don't be alarmed. Just pass the parmesan and mind your business. Rating: 5/5 Stars. I'll be back for round three once my treadmill forgives me.
