We are in the market of buying new carpet for most of our 2700 square foot home. We also need a new floor in one of our bathrooms. A friend recommended we go to Slaughter Beck Floors. Unfortunately we did use them several years ago. They put in a laminate floor in a small laundry room. They did a good job and it looked great for the first year. Now the glue is showing through, so they must of done something wrong? Wrong Glue? Forgot to prep? So when we get the carpets and bathroom done I am sure I will have the new company redo the laundry room too. I would hope that when you put a floor down it would look good for at least 10 years. read more

My experience is only going into the store and viewing their selection. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They also have a great selection of samples to view. My contractor referred me to Slaughterbeck to select a hardwood floor. While they have many options there really was only one choice that worked. It was an oak floor. I was worried about oak floor and my very first comment and each time we talked was : I want a clear floor I don't want any knots. I got email in writing staying "It will be CLEAR". So I went for it. Then after 8 weeks the floor arrived. It was horrible. There were tons of real tight knots, tons of planks had pitch black burned holes. When I complained to my contractor and Joan, I got to hear that I should have ordered clear, not 'premium select'. I was never offered a choice of clear, I said I wanted clear, I wasn't offered to pick some different option. The quality of what was delivered was horrible in the first place aside from it being clear or not. Many pieces were not usable. So we had to order more. I never even once got an apology from Slaughterbeck or an acknowledgement. Zero. All that happened was that I had to order $7k worth more to cover up for the crappy wood that was delivered, the promises made, not delivered on. And not even an apology. In fact, they blamed me. While the initial visit to the showroom was good, they didn't deliver on promises, on quality and didn't even bother apologizing. So. my experience - go elsewhere. I don't typically write reviews, very rare that I do but I felt compelled here because it just was really bad. Never again. read more

I've used Slaughterbeck floors a couple of times now, for both refinishing of existing floors and install of new. Can't recommend them enough. In our first house when we pulled up the carpets and pad the floors were in awful shape. They were very honest with us that is was uncertain how the floors would come out. Well they exceeded our expectations and the floors came out great. Last spring we installed new hardwood in our home and refinished existing hardwood. Sherry was great to work with, responsive and professional. Her team that did the work were WONDERFUL, very nice and very careful with their work and clean up. I wish I could remember the name of the foreman on our job, but he took a lot of time to mix different samples for me to be sure that I was happy. Slaugherbeck Floors exceeded our expectations when they refinished our oak hardwood floors. We had some boards that were water-soaked and had to be replaced. When Slaughterbeck finished, we couldn't tell where the new boards started and the old boards ended. They suggested polyurethane instead of oil and the floors look spectacular. They replaced our molding, at our last-minute request. Every turn and end is finished. Every threshold is in place. We plan to have them put cork in our kitchen and carpet in our den. When I decided to get rid of the final patch of carpet in my house, I went to many different places, comparing their knowledge, showrooms and prices, from big box 'depots', large new home option installers counties away and a few smaller local companies I found on Yelp. Lowe's was a mess, rude, 'gotta-run-to-the-next-job' estimator and 'couldn't-care-less' store help. 800 floors were nice enough but worked with inferior product (very dissimilar, 1 to 4ft length). San Jose Hardwood was also helpful, but had a troubling disclaimer in their contract they wouldn't remove. Slaughterbeck had the best showroom, with large patches of different woods on their floors. Two impressive pieces show they have longtime proud craftsmen, not disposable temp workers - one made of log sections and another a 'radiant sun' potpourri worthy of being in the wall. I had to wait over a month for a install date, but I figured it was like restaurants - you can wait 1hr for the good one or just walk in next door, where they are near empty. Workers showed up on time, where very courteous, knowledgeable and cleaned up before leaving. One small issue with a trim piece was resolved promptly a couple of days later (piece had to be ordered). Even though the job was done and they had been paid in full, I felt I was still their top priority (I have seen with other companies the devastating effects that the last payment can have on the customer importance - not here). Slaughterbeck came out to install engineered hardwood on a concrete slab. The job was expected to be completed within 4 days. After removing the carpet it was decided the concrete slab needed to be leveled before installing hardwood. I was well aware of the possibility when Joan came out to do an estimate. The job took longer than expected and it was well worth it. The floors are absolutely beautiful and I could not be more happy!! I had a stellar team of guys (Dominic, Daniel, Tony, Eddie) working on my floors!! Not only was I happy with the end result, I was impressed with the entire process. They were professional, considerate, hardworking, and they took pride in their work. Recently used them to replace our family room floor. Jim is really nice and their workers did a high quality installation job. Additionally, they were very careful about keeping the dust and dirt off of the newly installed part of the wood floor while working their way across the room and they did not install any pieces that had a slight flaw to it. Not all workers are so considerate! Another contractor we had used before (Johnny's Flooring) was so careless that they tracked in so much dirt and saw dust that the brand new floor already showed many scratches by the time they were done installing it. My review is based on initial dealings and up to the point of getting a quote. I had of course checked out the reviews on yelp etc and had a good feeling before going to check out the showroom. I was maybe lucky but I got Joan to myself for nearly an hour at the showroom even though she was taking care of the shop on her own that afternoon, and she was more than willing to spend the time to discuss various installation options, methods, and pros and cons of various materials. Great service, and I learnt a few things which helped me discuss installation with other suppliers. I came back with my wife, and we were able to select some wood, vinyl tile samples and carpet sample to take home (no deposit required) and a few days later Joan came over to make measurements. In the end the quote was higher than I was hoping for, and I felt the measurements were perhaps a little generous. (I had pre-measured all rooms myself) The other thing which pushed us to select a different installer was that the quote was not as detailed as I felt it should be with much left open to potential interpretation, + there were extra costs for removal of old carpets that other installers waived. I did have a good feeling about their professionalism and integrity, and I have no doubt they would have done an amazing job, but I felt they are perhaps more suitable to somebody who is looking for the best job at any price. I really wanted to go with Slaughterbeck floors, but they got out-quoted from a company with a similar reputation and professionalism who provided a more accurate/detailed quote and measurements. read more

My contractor hired Slaughterbeck Floors to sand/stain our existing floors and install new wood in some areas that had been damaged by mold. Our floors are very old; the house was built in '66 and these could possibly be original. They had many deep razor blade marks and nail holes from various carpet installations. One room had huge screws drilled in to reduce squeaking. And since old floors were made with thinner wood, there is only so much sanding you can do so I wasn't sure it could all come out. Joan sent Miguel to do the job and he was amazing. The floors look like new! You would never know where the new wood vs old is. All razor blade marks and screw holes are gone, as well as the squeaking. Miguel was also very helpful with color. They had many colors to choose from, but none were exactly what I wanted. Miguel mixed various colors and took 7 attempts before we found the right mixture. He was so patient with me. Thank you Miguel! read more

Love this locally-owned outfit! The previous owner of our house in Willow Glen, a real "Do It Yourself-er", not only installed really awful bamboo flooring, but did it incorrectly. For the last two months, all in this house have been tripping over the threshold of our den floor that was both buckled and bounced like a trampoline.
