Service was perfect, including answering all questions about food and providing input on specific dishes, and making wine suggestions. Decor is comfortable, cozy without being crowded. We tried the crab cakes, Green Salmon and Seafood Gratinée. We enjoyed everything and all was beautifully prepared and seasoned.

    Stunning Bar area!

Amazing!!! Absolutely amazing! Without a doubt, the best gumbo I have ever enjoyed in a restaurant outside of New Orleans! My compliments to the Chef, your gumbo hit every high point - from the first taste, omg, perfectly seasoned, I could taste just about every ingredient - the sausage, the chicken, the veggies -cooked perfectly al dente, the pepper, salt, perfectly seasoned! The finish ramped up the spice heat - to a perfect level. Just enough spice heat to make it memorable. And the subtleness that the taste finished with was again amazing. I would challenge Bobby Flay with this dish! Ok, enough on the food. The service was excellent, from the warm greeting as we walked in the door all the way through the meal. Attentive in every way! As for the ambiance - what can I say about a restaurant/bar in a beautifully restored and appointed turn of the century home! Excellent in every way. They say we eat with our eyes first, and these folks take that to a new level!!! Well done owners and team of Slaymaker & Nichols, well done!!! One more thing, We have eaten gumbo on our travels throughout the Southern US - we lived in Florida for a while - so we are no strangers to it. This is award winning gumbo, you will definitely enjoy it!

We had visited the blue mussel and loved it. Were told about the owners other restaurant in Charlottetown and wanted to try it. Started out very nice. Lovely tables outside - very cozy with umbrellas, blankets and patio lights. Food was delicious. Wine list very limited but average. Canada seems more into beer than wine. Coming from the US that's different. We were having a wonderful evening until the two couples to our left began rudely making fun of religious people very loudly. Their conversation was very offensive and not appropriate for the setting. More appropriate for a loud bar area if appropriate at all. They then continued loudly discussing American politics and very loudly giving their opinions and insults to a particular US Presidential candidate all the while saying they all were Canadian. We found it all too disturbing. It ruined a perfectly good day and evening. My advice would be to get a reservation inside and hope these couples or ones like them are not your neighbors. One way to get visitors from other countries not to visit your tourist areas is to talk rudely about them.

A hidden gem tucked away on a side street is where you'll find this amazing local gastro. We stopped by here for dinner as our first restaurant and it did not disappoint! Laura was exceptional, friendly and attentive to us, checking at the right time for our orders and anything else we needed. Food and drinks were delicious, fresh and reasonably priced at the perfect portion to satisfy our hunger. Try the slaymaker house lager and raseberry radler. Burger is a must, flavoured with an amazing sauce and juicy burger meat. PEI blue dot steak also just melts in your mouth. If you're a crème brûlée fan, you must have that for dessert. Overall exceeding our expectations and would definitely go back again.

Best restaurant in Charlottetown with the BEST service too! Love how the menu slightly changes with the seasons and the cocktails are awesome. I have never been disappointed here. Can't wait to try brunch! Small and swanky inside and very cute intimate vibe. A must try for anyone in town.

Brunch was incredible! Beautiful decor, Intimate and upscale but still casual vibe and super friendly & kind service. We just loved the whole experience. We ordered the crabcake eggs Benedict and the wakey wakey breakfast with coffee and beers. All was wonderful.... Can't wait to come back!

Dinner was absolutely fantastic. We ordered the cerviche on avocado, the butter board, and the lobster bao buns to split. I had the portobello wellington and my husband had the seafood bake. He said it was the best seafood bake he has ever had. The butter board was heavenly, it was cesear salad inspired. The bao buns were perfect and who knew radish tasted so good with lobster Also ordered the PB&J Old Fashioned (which came with 2 cookies) and the strawberry mojito. The staff was also excellent! Especially Katherine, I think was her name. We can't wait to go back!

Wow. We loved this restaurant! They called several times to ensure our tables were still reserved because we were delayed at two border crossings for hours taking COVID tests. The manager couldn't have been more helpful or charming. He was good to recommend favorites. We LOVED the food. We tried charcuterie boards, salads, and desserts.

The charcuterie board was amazing! It's nice to see some seafood on the board instead of the usual meat & cheese. We loved the pickled elements specifically the watermelon & grapes. I enjoyed my potato crusted haddock main with potato dauphinoise (my first time & it was my favorite part of the dish). The roasted veggies were also my fav... pretty much all the veggies which tells you how well they do it since I'm a meat eater. Unfortunately my husband's main (piri piri chicken) was dry plus they added an element to the dish without consulting him. When we told our server, she took it off the bill which was really kind of her to do. Lastly, their blueberry coconut mojito (no alcohol) was amazing!

Restaurant is super cool and intimate. Would be great for a date night or special occasion. Menu is limited. Lots of very good appetizer options but main course options are a little limited.

We had excellent service and our drinks and food were served promptly and with a smile. As we were vacationing on PEI, I wanted to take advantage of every opportunity to sample local fare. The pan fried haddock was perfectly cooked and served with a very interesting chutney. It made a nice change from the usual tartar sauce. My husband enjoyed his burger which also had out of the ordinary seasoning and toppings. The fries were amazing. A lovely spot with indoor and patio seating, I highly recommend The Gahan House if you are in the area.

Having been back in New Glasgow for a few months now, we've started to cycle through more…read morerestaurants, after hitting old favourites and new-to-us spots fairly thoroughly. A return(s) to East Avenue was inevitable, and certainly looked forward to. It has to have one of the most beautiful restaurant interiors in northern Nova Scotia - exposed brick, soaring ceilings, and walls dotted with paintings by local artists. For our first visit of 2023, I had the Tamis anghang ($20). Filipino for "sweet and spicy", this is a slightly fancier, single-serving version of sweet and sour chicken. Replacing the cloyingly-sweet sauce at most Chinese-Canadian restaurants, East Ave's Thai chili sauce is much more balanced, with a light punch from the hot pepper that livens up your taste buds but won't scorch them. The chicken was cooked with a deft hand, and the crisp batter held up until the last bite. My wife's duck ragu gnocchi ($29) was a hearty meal, with an impressive amount of rich, shredded duck and fluffy sweet potato gnocchi. If that wasn't enough, shredded parm added even more umami. The sauce was a bit thin and served overly generously, which made the dish a bit soupy, but was otherwise quite delicious. Bonus points for this dish and many others having gluten-free options! They had an impressive crowd for a Tuesday evening and that plus a very large group that came in just after us seemed to make for somewhat uneven service. A return visit had us targeting their patio, sadly one of the few in the non-Pictou towns of Pictou County. Step it up people! We just wanted some mid-afternoon snacks, so we went for a couple appetizers. The fried sweet chili cauliflower ($15) was a tasty app. The mild crunch of the cauliflower gave further crunch to the crisp coating, which did wilt under the slathering of sauce. Said sauce did have a bit more bite than most sweet chili sauces out there, but it won't have you breathing fire. Our kale Caesar salad (side size, $10) was a bit on the healthier side than our deep fried app, and pleasant departure from the standard formula. The mix of kale and romaine paired the strengths of both greens, while chickpeas and tomatoes brought added couloir, flavour and texture. And don't worry, there was still bacon, shaved parm, and a hearty dose of dressing. East Avenue continues to put out generally great food in a killer atmosphere (both inside and out), and I love how much this new business has brought and added to the food scene in the area.
