Well, Mac at the Redwood City store has all the qualities of someone you'd want to do lasting business with. I'm not going to lie, I'm a tough customer. I called him in a "bedding emergency" with a bed frame I ordered on Wayfair that was waaaay too high for our 16" mattress. I need something that provided support while also being low profile. Over SEVEN phone calls in 24 hours (me calling him) he walked me through the pros and cons of each choice and truly wanted to make sure I made the right purchase. He waited for me when I was indecisive after watching too many YouTube videos on mattress foundation options and was so courteous with my unrelenting questions. Last year I bought a terrible mattress at another place because the sales person pressured us into buying by offering even more of a discount, but only if we bought right then. Sure, we saved money, but my back hurt for the next two months. Went to return it and the sales person still tried to talk me into keeping it even after I told her I literally couldn't fall asleep on it and it was causing me pain. Then I came into Sleep Haven. The staff was much more helpful and knowledgeable without being so pushy. I literally went around trying each mattress multiple times during several trips to be sure and they left me alone so that I could take my time (and helped me when I asked of course). We ended up with a great mattress and I was so happy to be able to sleep again without back pain. Fast forward a few months and we needed a new box spring for our guest bed (the one we had was old and squeaky). I immediately thought of Sleep Haven. We had guests staying with us and I wanted to get it as soon as possible. The guy said they could deliver the next day, but also said they might be able to deliver that same day after hearing about how the squeak was keeping our guests awake. Not only did it get delivered that night, but after we had ordered the wrong size height (our fault, not theirs), he offered to take it back and bring the right size right away! I had a really creepy experience here today. I stopped in on a whim while running some errands because I've just started thinking about looking for a new mattress and the owner showed me their natural bamboo mattresses and encouraged me to lie down on one. The store was quiet and empty and I tried it out. He wanted to show me that I wouldn't feel much movement when my boyfriend tosses and turns, but instead of using his hands to lean or make movement on the other side of the mattress, HE GOT ONTO THE BED WITH ME. He stayed there for a few moments, chatting away, lying on the bed with me, while I was just kind of in shock. Then he got up, walked around, and said, "This is great to support this area" and touched my hips and ribcage." Totally not OK!!!! He could have SAID by back, my core, anything really. I got up right away and started walking toward the front and after a few moments left. Clearly I won't be back. Geez, he's old enough to be my father. At least. Next time I'm taking my mother with me so she can hit salesmen with her purse. Or I'll go to any of the other three stores within a block of here that sell mattresses that probably have female salespeople. read more

I've been dealing with Sleep Haven regularly over the past 6-9 months. The guy who typically works there is generally pretty fine, but he does try to sell you on mattress stuff. He throws out random facts about all the coils, etc. etc. and most of that doesn't really mean anything. So, I originally chose a mattress, paid for it, had it delivered the next week and at first it was fine. A month or so into use, it was already starting to lose its support/shape (keep in mind, I got a firm mattress) so, we returned to Sleep Haven to say that it was uncomfortable and we wanted something different. Keep in mind that, unlike many other mattress stores, Sleep Haven doesn't have a 30 or 90-day trial period. They told me that I could return my mattress because I'm not happy with its "comfort," which is apparently a legitimate return to them...once. The guy who works there also claimed to me that they had NEVER BEFORE IN THE HISTORY OF THE STORE had a comfort return. So, if he tries to pull this same line on you, refer him here to this review. My mattress was uncomfortable and I returned it. So, with their policy, I was able to return the first mattress and use the cost of that mattress towards purchasing a different, second mattress. Fair enough. Except this time, this was it. No more comfort complaints would be allowed. The second mattress quickly began to suffer the same fate as the original. Neither were terrible, but I feel that within the first month or so of having a mattress, with standard weight people sleeping on it, a mattress should be good as new. Except that wasn't the case with either of these mattresses. Which is especially strange because one was a Simmons BeautyRest and the second was a Sealy Posturepedic. Both are high quality brands. I'd even had a Sealy before, and it lasted many years with no wear. I'm not sure if Sleep Haven gets discounted, poorly made mattresses to begin with or if those brands have gone down hill since I last purchased. All I know is that I'm not okay anymore purchasing a mattress that doesn't have at least a 30-day return policy. Picking mattresses in the store is so overwhelming...they all feel the same! too many choices! And for someone with back problems like myself, I need to find a supportive mattress, which is not something you can suss out in store. Trial period is a must! All I know is that we've moved the second, also deteriorating mattress into a spare bedroom and have now purchased an excellent, new mattress from the organic mattress store in downtown Palo Alto. This review is strictly based on their customer service, I didn't get far enough to actual get the bed delivered. I finally found the bed I wanted after getting mixed information from both owners. Was told that the price was set by Serta so I wouldn't find a better deal elsewhere. I financed it & started waiting for my 2 week special delivery. In the meantime I saw a no tax sale & got that plus an even better deal at another store & my bed was in stock. When I called to cancel my order at Sleep Haven they were furious. They proceeded to slam the other store & tell me why I was making a bad decision going with them. They also told me that the only reason I was approved to buy that bed was b/c they had 2 approval machines on site & I'd never get the same at the other store. I had to go back in to get my cards refunded & they were very rude to me. I had forgotten my free mattress topper so they charged me full price for it before refunding me for the bed & told me I just had to make another trip back to return it & get my money back. When I went back to return the topper they said sorry it's too late you have to keep it! (Btw I ordered a queen & the topper they gave me was a cal king). I finally broke down crying b/c my experience had been so horrible & they refunded me. But not after telling me that I lied about my great deal b/c they saw how much I charged for the other bed. 1) I got the deal I said, the extra $ on the card was from they're stupid topper. & 2) HOW COULD THEY LOOK AT WHAT I'M CHARGING?! After everything was over my bed arrived and I realized I had picked it with the aid of the sleep haven owners...that was stupid. They had explained how it'd be best for my back & it'd get softer with time. I waited almost my entire 90 day trial & unfortunately had to call my other store & exchange the mattress. Avoid this place do not make same mistake I did . Sweet talker sales person Mac will try to sell you used (floor) mattress first and almost get pissed off when you say you don't want used mattress .He is spiting on every other mattress sale place but this is the worst ever. I bought mattress , they delivered fast and on time, who knows maybe even used one because after 3 weeks mattress shows impression already approx 1/2" . I called asking what to do but of course no refund no exchange no cancellation so he referred me to warranty company. Of course at time of sale he didn't provide all warranty details. With warranty co you don't want to deal at all. They responded week after me calling 3 times. They will replace mattress if impression is 1 1/2 " and you have to pay for delivery. Invoice says 30/15 warranty if impression 1 1/2 " , but I was expecting possible impression after a few years not after 3 weeks . Mattress I bought wasn't the cheapest, so this place selling bad quality mattresses .DO NOT BUY HERE. This area has many better place to buy good quality mattress for even cheaper . read more

The good thing about Sleep Haven is that it's not a large chain; It's individually owned and operated. The bad thing was that the mattress selection didn't match well with other stores I had already visited, making it difficult to do a price comparison. The Simmons mattress I had decided on (after way too much research) was simply not available here, even on special order. High pressure sales tactics were moderate, with the owner attempting to trade me up to similar, yet more expensive models from other manufacturers that I had not researched. In the end I found a similar mattress from Simmons that I liked, but it was 100's of dollars more than I had seen at other stores; This was AFTER the owner deducted his sudden, special, un-posted discount of $200. The owner then tried to convince me this particular mattress had a nicer level of fabric than the model I had seen at Sleep Train, but I wasn't buying it (literally). I decided to stick to my plan but left on friendly terms. Rating this place is tough. The owner wasn't as much of a shark as the Sleep Train people I had dealt with previously, and he was easy to talk to. But he still wasn't fully honest with me, so 3 stars doesn't seem quite right. Good experience. Plenty of inventory, VERY knowledgeable staff. I particularly liked the no-pressure atmosphere. No bargaining, but good fixed discounts in our case. Prices competitive. However, we did get an additional discount upon buying two mattresses. When delivered (not next day, but soon), one mattress had a minor flaw, so they replaced it very quickly and with no fuss. They did remove the old mattresses. Will definitely shop there in the future. read more

Bought a new mattress/box spring at Sleep Haven and had a very nice experience. The two men working, Ali and Ray, were super helpful and put no pressure on me to buy. At first I decided on a very expensive mattress and then changed my mind and went to a less expensive model. There was no pressure or push back from them to stick with the more expensive model. When I had questions about a mattress pad (the bed is for my young son), they said they'd call the bed manufacturer on Monday to see what my best option would be. During the time we were in the store, they brought my sons and I water, and Ali walked us to the car when we left. A very nice gesture. store is good- has all tempurpedic options--owners are not pushy.overall buying experience was great. problem came in post purchase...after about a month, new tempurpedic classic king broke my husbands back to the point he could not move/walk to the bathroom (with several does of ibuprofen and muscle relaxers in him). Tempurpedic turned out to be Temper-Hell for my husband and my family. Ofcourse our king mattress was considered "special order" so no options for returns/exchanges. Perhaps better to order from Temperpedic online that allows 90 day returns and could save your family/marriage from unwanted aggravation! read more

BOUGHT A $3000 dollar mattress and box spring here.. AUG 2012. they delivered it set it up within two days we had bites all over us. Checked out under the mattress and found BED BUGS , the owner said too bad we signed a agreement because he talked us into the floor model. They were out of regular stock so he Gave us a small discount ! When we called to tell him he became very angry and said all he would do for us is give us a store credit for $2000. Orcan man cost $1000 to get house sprayed for BUGS , we loose $ 2000 plus we are afraid to by another bed from there with our store credit ! BUGS , BED BUGS , watch out for this place ! We had been playing around with the idea of getting a king size mattress for a while - at the time, we were two fully grown adults (one of us over 6' tall) and two cats (who, due to their size, are affectionately known as our "apartment cougars") sleeping on a full sleep number bed. One morning, after a night of tossing and turning due to space issues, I woke up and decided that enough was enough: we were officially "bed hunting". We did some research online and then decided to visit some stores. We began at Sleep Haven, and from the beginning, the service was professional, polite, friendly, and not at all pressured. We told Kenny (the owner) that we were not looking to spend thousands of dollars and asked to see mattresses within a certain price range. Having dealt with really pushy sales persons in the past I almost expected him to ignore my request, but Kenny respected our budget and showed us a large variety of mattresses that were within range. We found one that we absolutely loved, but decided to continue browsing around to get a different perspective. Kenny encouraged us to do our browsing at other stores, and gave us his card and we left. And boy, did we ever get a different perspective at other places. One guy at a larger mattress chain made no real effort to stop reading his magazine when we walked in, other than to briefly point us in the right direction. He then shot me a purely uncensored look of annoyance when I said thank you, but we had not found what we were looking for, and then tried to pepper me with questions about what we were looking for exactly etc. etc. (sorry buddy, but it's a little too late to try and engage with me when I'm walking out of the store). We went right back to Sleep Haven and purchased the mattress from Kenny. It was delivered a few days later - we could have gotten it sooner, but it was our own schedule, not theirs, that limited us. Set up and removal of our old mattress was quick, efficient, and done with a smile. We received a call the day before our delivery was due to say that they were expecting to run about a hour outside of our scheduled delivery window, which wasn't a big deal for us, and they ended up getting to us within the original time slot anyway. Would definitely recommend Kenny and his team and this will be the place that we buy any mattress from in the future. read more
