I emailed him one evening, chose my bed, and arranged for him to come to my apt in Pac Heights at 10:15a in the morning. he was there on the dot. He put the bed together for me in less than a half hour, was hilarious and entertaining while he was there, and took all of the packaging/boxes with him. The bed is wood, and sturdy AND good-looking! Al is the shiznit! He worked with me through getting a new bed with a headboard. My other bed was a platform bed and was an older model so I ended up selling it and getting a new one. I'm sure glad I did, because my new bed frame is amazing. I forgot what I was missing with a headboard attached to my bed. ... Okay, getting off track here. Al took the time to email me with prices and answered all my questions. He went above and beyond by coming to my place twice; the first to see if my old bed could have a headboard and the second to install and assemble my new bed. Just wanted to express my thanks and feedback for the owner and the store. I have been looking for a queen platform bed for a few weeks and I found a link pointing me to the good night store. We really liked the pepper style bed frame so I called and the owner said when do you want to me bring it out to you and set it up.. WOW I was shocked, such service now a days and such a low fee to bring it out and set it up, he even offered to carry the old frame out to our garage since I had a broken toe. So I told him which bed and my contact info and he asked me which days were ok and we Picked Sunday. Today he should up on time was a very nice guy and I helped him bring in the new bed parts to the bedroom, we talked a bunch while he was building out the bed frame and found out we both liked some of the same food places in SF :) He hauled away all the shipping boxes from the new bed frame.. I give this place my highest thumbs up for not only being very customer service oriented and great prices for their products and being Honest retail store which is very hard to find now a days..... Not only are the locally sourced, MADE IN USA, but you can go to the factory in Burlingame with him and try all the beds to pick your favorite. This is a long overdue review for Al and the Goodnight Store. I first bought a bed from him three years ago and then bought a full bedroom set from him about a year later. Al really takes care of his customers. He does what he says he's going to do, is on-time and friendly. And I'm really happy with the quality of his products. Al was *fabulous* - patient, friendly, knowledgeable, accessible, responsive, and flexible - everything you could ever ask for. Also, his prices are incredibly reasonable, and his products are rock-solid in terms of quality. Free delivery and setup for a bed frame. He even offered to mix and match the colors of the bed frame and drawers to match the existing decor of my bedroom. I actually ordered a queen bed frame that was scheduled for delivery yesterday, but because I crossed wires with a family member at the very last minute, I had to call Al to cancel. I asked about his cancellation fee, and to my surprise, he said there would be none. In fact, because I felt so badly about the situation, he spent several minutes graciously reassuring me it was okay. He even texted me today, letting me know that he had sold the bed frame in case it made me feel better...! Do NOT buy from Al (the good night store). The furniture is shoddy quality. After 4 months one of the drawers already doesn't stay on its tracks. But worst of all, Al assembled my bed. After a couple months I tried to move, and I realized I couldn't because two of the screws on the bed were stripped, making it impossible to disassemble. It's obvious that it was Al, because he was the one who assembled the bed, and I hadn't touched the screws since. But after I contacted him, he refused to do anything and accused me of stripped the screws myself (which I didn't!). read more

Don't Ask, Don't Tell. I don't usually write reviews, but my experience with this store definitely merited a review. Taken in by the inexpensive prices and delivery option, i decided to give this store a call. Spoke to Al who seemed nice enough. Made 2 phone calls to get a few questions answered- the usual stuff like cost, delivery, warranty, etc. Scheduled to talk on monday for a possible delivery since the mattress size i wanted wasn't available on friday. So far, so good. Get an email on monday asking for my address. I reply with it and add: One more question: If I don't like the mattress can i return it for a refund or just an exchange? I get an email back saying "apparently you are a person who likes to return things. we regret that we cant sell you anything at this time" I don't know what sort of shady business Al is running but asking a few questions about a $500 purchase that I haven't seen or experienced, is fair. Al doesn't seem to think so. Maybe he thinks the quiet ones will put up with any kind of product or service? Oh well, I cut my losses and found out just what kind of store this is. I just read a review that said the gal tried to move and the screws were stripped. I just moved with my bed and we easily disassambled the bed and put it back together- no screws stripped. Could have been some mistake for her bed, but I still love my bed! read more

Update: In 2011, I bought the two night stands. Al arrived on time and assembled both perfectly! When he first assembled my bed, I asked that he not use all the screws in the bed slats. Last year I decided I needed them to keep the bed from creaking, and couldn't find them. I called Al. Again, he arrived on time, brought new screws, got 'em in fast, and did this for free!! If I ever need more furniture, I'm calling Al again. 12/20/2010 I saw Al's ad on craigslist for a bed frame I liked, so I called and left a message. He called back later that day, gave me the information I wanted, such as the source of the wood and manufacturer. I decided to buy the bed frame, and Al said he'd be at my apartment at 12 noon on Saturday. No 2 or 4 hour window. At 12 noon on Saturday, 12/18, Al arrived! He carefully brought the bed frame up two flights of stairs, and in one hour, assembled it. He even helped me move it to a few different positions, so I could decide which one I liked best. He charged only $30 for delivery and set-up. Al himself was friendly, personable, and professional. He clearly knows what he's doing. He likes being his own boss, and has built a successful business by word-of-mouth recommendations like these. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again; I'm considering a dresser and night stand. If you want hard wood bedroom furniture, at a fair price, delivered on time, and assembled efficiently, call Al. I'm a very happy customer. read more

Got a Cal King bed and mattress along with a loft bed. Delivery was $20 and Setup was $70 (a bargain especially for setting up a loft bed with tons of screws). I had my doubts about ordering furniture off the internet, but when I saw Al's Craig's List post for a queen bed in the perfect style I was seeking, at the kind of price I wanted to pay, I decided it was worth a try. We scheduled delivery for the next weekend (very reasonable rate, half of what I paid for Macy's just to carry in a mattress and he assembled a whole bed). The bed was perfect, no cosmetic defects and I love it so far. Al was at my place for about 90-minutes for the whole process but he's an enjoyable character and full of interesting stories. It was also priced much cheaper than most crappy particle board beds available on the market ( I talking to you Ikea). I ordered the twin over full frame in natural and I couldn't be happier. The bed is SOLID, very well constructed, and fun to sleep in if bunk beds are your thing. My wife and I recently moved to Burlingame from the East coast and did not move our bedroom furniture. When we arrived in Burlingame we immediately required two bedrooms of furniture and mattresses.
