Update on 5-2-26. I hadn't seen Monique since January, due to my own clumsiness tripping and breaking my clavicle, having surgery, and then breaking it again. I had a virtual visit with Monique this past week and she proved herself again!! She is truly 1 in a million. She has been traveling around giving talks about sleep issues...yes, she is that good. And again, I called the office multiple times and I have decided that leaving a message or not is my own problem, Monique is worth the hassle because I don't think there is anyone else more knowledgeable. On July 2025 a Tele-medicine appt. w/Monique Mulvaney. A sleep study on October 21, 2025. Then on 10/24/25, an employee with Nationwide Medical called asking for my credit card number and requesting an auto-pay status for my new Aircurve 11. My cost was $196.30. I wasn't to give my card to a person I had trouble understanding..her English was hard to understand. I reached out to Monique and explained my situation and was referred to Blane the Nationwide rep for the NW area. Blane helped me and told me a person from Nationwide, Clay would help with the new Aircurve 11. Before Clay and I set up my new Aircurve 11, I had a phone call from Sleep Medical Consultants person Bree (Breanna). I told Bree that I hadn't set up the Aircurve 11 due to the frustration with the price quote. The price quote was not adding up and to the payment method. A person named Samantha interjected on the phone call and scolded me for critiquing my billing frustration and the bad English relayed. So on 11/17/25 I went to myHealthspot portal and under Documents, I saw a generic Termination Letter to me. I now have the Aircurve11 but I guess I was terminated by my doctor. Clay Nationwide told me to use my new BiPAP machine for 2 weeks and then call Monique to "tweat" my new machine. I don't think the doctor, Mr Bhavim may be aware. At first, I was not going to keep my new Aircurve 11 due to the billing but Blane and Clay helped me immensely so I kept it. I am a heart patient and visit my cardiologist and I need my BiPAP to be working properly. I just don't understand why I get a Telemedicine conference, a Sleep study, set up my Aircurve 11, and now I'm terminated. I now have no Monique or a doctor. This is so frustrating....I've not looked for advice...No offense meant.... I just have the facts. All I ever wanted to do is buy new equipment and get it monitored. Please understand that I felt ignored. Who terminated me and why? I don't have a doctor to help me. I do have regrets. I'm also 73 years old. read more

These guys are legitimately corrupt and have charged myself and my insurance provider over $2000 for a piece of equipment that retails for $1300...and that's retail! You are much better off getting a recommendation for a device and sourcing it yourself. Many programs will monitor your use and cut your benefits if you have trouble using consistently. WORST OFFICE Monique is lovely--too bad the front office is destroying the practice. It has happened to many other people. The front office sends multiple texts to set an appt but cancels it WITHOUT NOTICE. The worst thing was when I called to reschedule a staff member pretended to be the office manager and mocked me like a child. She was awful. I told her I wasn't sleeping and needed help because of many stresses including a terminally ill child and she laughed at me. It was cruel and bizarre. I asked to speak to my provider and she said I would never get to speak to them and hung up! I wonder if Monique or Dr. Desaid knows this is the way the patients are being treated? read more

Dr. Alex Mckinlay is one of the best doctors I have had the pleasure to work with professionally. He has an exceptional bedside manner and truly takes time to listen to his patients. I know this firsthand as he spent several months shadowing with me in my wellness and weight management clinic in Spring 2024. As sleep is such an important aspect of ALL of our lives, I discuss this at every single visit, at least until it is no longer an issue and the patient's sleep is wonderful. I have referred numerous patients to him for the full spectrum of ENT related issues and EVERY single patient comes back raving not just about him but his office staff as well! I would give 0 stars if i could!! They did nothing to help my father get to sleep!! He spent months trying to figure out why he can't fall asleep and they said he needed a CPAP machine which he can't wear because it's uncomfortable, he is NOT SLEEPING! They can not focus on the issue!! When i called to get a dr. to look at my dad they said I was rude because I wanted someone else help my father!!! They spoke over me and just pissed me off they did nothing but yell at me and basically tell me to f off!! Worst customer service ever!!! We won't be back even if they didn't cancel us!! You're supposed to descilate when a family member is upset because you did NOTHING to help!!! Horrible experience !! read more

My husband went for sleep study MONTHS ago & it was determined that he needed CPAP. (They are NOT comfortable, especially when you are trying to get used to it.) He kept taking it off EARLY because it "automatically" started blowing HARD and waking him up. We called & a nice lady said she'd adjust the pressure & then call daily for a while to help coach & adjust the pressure to get him acclimated. She NEVER called. He won't use it because it "ramps up" too much & wakes him. Seems there is NO SUPPORT once they have your money. $1000 piece of junk without their help. read more

I never felt that I was being pushed into any specific tests or treatment but was given a range of options based on my individual circumstances. The support team is proactive and responsive. This is another "I wish I could give them 0 stars" review. I was referred by my PCP. I called and the only appointment they had was 4 weeks out. I scheduled it. In the interim they wanted images of my insurance cards (twice) and a ton of paperwork, with the disclaimer that if the paperwork isn't filled out the appointment will be cancelled. Most of the paperwork revolved around insurance releases. I also received numerous texts and emails along the way reminding me of the appoinement. Since I'm dealing with insomnia I was anxious to keep my appointment. Then, the Friday before my appointment on Monday, I received an email informing me the appointment would be "Telehealth". Not only Telehealth, but with a nurse and not the physician. This was the first I heard of this; I never asked for it. I called and they informed me that all of their appointments are Telehealth. Telehealth may be convenient in certain situations, but discussing your needs with a physician in person is always preferred. I cancelled. I was left with the impression that they do as little as possible to gain as much as possible through insurance billing. I'm not accusing them of this, but one can't help but get this impression. Needless to say I'll be discussing this episode with my PCP. read more

DO NOT USE THIS PLACE. my neurologist sent a referral to them(which obviously would have contained my insurance info) then I made my appointment filled out new patient paperwork again providing my insurance info. At no point did anyone at the clinic say "sorry we don't take your insurance" in total though phone calls emails etc etc there were about 6 chances for them to tell me and now I have a massive bill that I'm gonna have to negotiate down And I will be filing a complaint with the state read more

i absolutely love Monique she always listens to my concerns and is ready to find more ways to help manage my symptoms in my not textbook case. she has been a huge advocate of mine when it comes to medical stuff and willing to help me find doctors. I really wanted to like them. The only time I get support is when I need to purchase supplies (money!). I was double charged a year ago and it was never resolved despite calling for months. I also called to let them know that I no longer wanted to be a patient (twice!) and once today. I have a bill now that is for "monitoring". So now I'm calling my insurance company to let them know to reject all claims. I have documentation of all of this and if my credit so much as hiccups I will take action. Be aware. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Ortiz and the incredible, friendly, professional medical staff at Sleep Medicine Consultants. I have been seeing Dr. Ortiz for sleep related issues for 8 years, and he has truly helped to change my life in incredible ways. The service is timely and exceptional. Monica at the front desk is always super friendly and knows me by name, Kristy and Anna go above and beyond to make sure that I am receiving the medical attention I need, and Dr. Ortiz has been the smartest and most supportive, knowledgeable, professional, organized doctor. He has gone out of his way to help me on more than one occasion, and I am so grateful that he is my doctor. At one point I even moved out of state for a job, and they made the moving process so easy... I was dreading finding a new doctor there, but everything worked out great. Very slick operation but it seems like a racket. The nurses are housed in CEO-style offices that are very opulent in the hopes that it will give them added gravitas. In return, you will be lucky to ever meet the doctor that is handling your care - I never even met mine after 4 visits. The sales pitch is that they are available 24/7. However, when I needed their help after a poorly-trained nurse mis-programmed my CPAP machine so that it was unuseable, the nurses wouldn't even give me 5 minutes of their time. I wasn't even allowed to leave a voicemail for my nurse but instead had to go through some "technician" who told me to just take sleeping pills for the next two weeks. I then went to another provider and they instantly found the programming problem and were surprised that I could sleep at all, even with sleeping pills. I know that everyone wants to make money, but these people appear to be so greedy that they could care less about their patients. Please save yourself the misery and go somewhere else. read more

This is a wonderful clinic. I see Dr. Tempest. He is helpful and supportive. It took a year to discover that my insomnia was caused by a rare reaction to an obscure blood pressure medicine. Dr Tempest was apologetic that he hadn't discovered it earlier. He has been proactive with my medications. Most sleep meds only make me sleepwalk. Professionally this place is really poor on patient satisfaction. They never answer their phones, and if not convenient, they do not answer voicemail messages with very poor excuses as to why it take a week to respond. The front desk staff is less than friendly and the one who schedules is clueless. Never received the initial paperwork, as promised during scheduling, and then never received the portal info so it would be easier to communicate after complaining enough times via voicemail. Then the Rx process was an absolute nightmare taking weeks to get resolved. Did not see a M.D. so maybe others had a better experience. This is not my first sleep consulting visit here in Austin so I speak from experience that this office was only chosen due to health insurance requirements. I will never return and would rather pay out of pocket than put myself through the extreme frustration I experienced again. read more

Beware of overcharges... After spending considerable time with my insurance company trying to understand the charges from Sleep Medicine Consultants, I learned I had been over charged by roughly $500. As an Aetna member, I am entitled to Aetna member pricing. The sleep clinic has list prices and insurance member pricing. The clinic charged me the list price rather than the Aetna member price. When the clinic finally admitted they had overcharged me, they told me I had a credit on the books and they fully intended to apply that credit in the future or provided a refund. However, I had several visits after the overcharge where the credit was not applied and I was charged for the visit. When I questioned why the credit was not applied, they said another company handles the billing and the office would have no way of knowing I had a credit due. So if I had not investigated the charges, I would have never found out I was owed a credit and they would have kept the overcharge. read more

The only time I had an issue with my machine, while out of town on business, I found this team to be extremely responsive and caring. Between Karen and her talking to Dr Hudson they are trying to get my sleep issues solved and they are doing a good job at it. Have had good sleep and am starting to keep awake during the day while driving from work to home and some other trips we have made that lasted more then 30 minutes up to one hour. He cares about his patients and tries his best to help his patients. His assistant is the same way...she cares and is so helpful and will work with you until the problem is solved. I went and had a sleep study performed towards the end of 2013 and the whole setup seemed like a way to push their own products (CPAP, masks, filters) instead of valid medical care. I have been going there for about 2 years but might be looking for a new doctor. I love Karen, the clinical nurse specialist. I've never met the doctor. They recently decided that my copay and whatever insurance pays isn't enough so they charge an additional $25 to call in my prescription preauthorization, which I find a little unethical. I'm probably stuck paying it right now but I don't think I'll be going back. read more

I went to this clinic because of atrial fibrillation being caused possibly by sleep apnea. I found the facilities nice enugh but the whole experience felt like a scam. Not only did I have a hard time getting to sleep because I could hear the tecs talking through the wall but they had me come in at 10 pm then woke me up at 5:30 am.They told me I needed so many hours or solid sleep for an accurate test so I would have to come back.They said I did have sleep apnea.I schedule the second sleep study but ended up being in afib with an irregular heart beat and readings of155/98. The client respiratory specialist said it was fine for me to come in for the second test in afib!!!!What bs, I talked to my cardiologist, my electrophysiologist and another sleep study clinic and they all said there was no way to do an accurate sleep study on my when I was in afib and that it could be dangerous. I would not go to that clinic. now I'm getting billed for the follow up consult where they tried to push a cpap on me. Stay away. read more

Visited them many times during the past 11 months--saw a doctor once. A RN prescribed multiple medicines (one at a time)--none helped. Finally was given a sleep study 9 months after first visit--the had to repeat the study after blaming a computer for not having results. Visited the doctor 2 weeks after the study but the sleep study had not even been analyzed prior to my visit. They are very slow in returning calls and seem very short handed. read more

I was not impressed with the way this place is run. They were poorly organized (not having me sign a release and not giving me sleep study info beforehand, for ex.), and they returned calls slowly (or never). When I showed up for my sleep study, I couldn't figure out how to get in the locked building, and had to call from the parking lot at 10pm to find out there was a buzzer to press off to one side of the entrance. (Good signage is needed.) With only one person (a man) working there, I felt vulnerable--not conducive to going to sleep. He asked if the temperature of the room was OK but couldn't tell me what it was, though he said he could adjust it up or down depending on my response. (A thermostat would be nice.) The main problem I had, though was that instead of letting me sleep for a few hours so they could get a clear indication of what's going on, the attendant put the CPAP on me immediately. Since I breathe through my mouth at night, every time I'd manage to fall asleep, my mouth would open and the airflow from the CPAP would change and startle me awake. I slept less than 2 hours. I tried using a CPAP on their recommendation and at first I swelled up painfully with air in my abdomen because they started with the highest air pressure setting. Throughout the process, it was not clear whether I should work with the company that provided the CPAP or Sleep Medicine Consultants to resolve issues. (That's something SMC should tell patients, no?) It took a long time to get the pressure turned down low enough for me to use the CPAP without abdominal pain, and by the time we resolved that, my trail period was over. I opted to return the CPAP. Even trying different kinds of masks and taping my mouth shut, I couldn't make it work for me. The CPAP company has online results tracking that SMC and patients can access but it seems that nobody at SMC monitors them in order to spot and address issues. I met with Dr. Ortiz a couple of times and he listened carefully and was knowledgable but the whole sleep study/CPAP experience was disappointing. I might do another sleep study just to find out how my breathing without it affects my sleep and oxygenation, but I'd probably do it somewhere else. read more
