This is a charming pool hall off of burnet. Played a few games here with some coworkers on Tuesday. The tables and everything is old, but I think it adds character to the place. I have tried hard not to have any regrets in life. But, deciding to take some friends to Slick Willie's was a waste of time and a moment that I wish I could take back and forget. This bad moment of time began the second we walked through the door. The bartender and server were both downers and gave me the impression that they did not even want to be there. There was no pleasant greeting or an attempt to ask us if we had been there before and maybe tell us about where everything was. Instead two frowned up faces that never smiled the entire time we were there said " I need to see ID's". They did not speak to us or any other customer, were very standoff-ish and not helpful at all. The tone they set ruined my experience from the beginning. Prior to getting there, I had gone online and found that some locations offer pizza. Of course, this location would happen to be one without Pizza. I chose to go this day with my friend so that we could watch football, eat pizza, and play pool. There were numerous TVs throughout the pool hall. Half of them did not work including the one nearest our table. The only thing to eat was popcorn. For the $18 per hour for the table and the generous tips that we left for the drinks and the frowns we received, I expected much more. I did give this location one star because the tables and sticks were in great condition and the place was clean. read more

When we got there this time, a number of us in various cars, we stood outside finishing our cigarettes and black and milds, while waiting for everyone to pull up. This is a run down pool hall. The pool tables show clear time passing.  Prices for soda were very expensive compared to other pool halls.  They don't price fairly: some tables were charged by the hour, regardless of number of players, then others were charged the hourly rate per person.  Is this favoritism? Was it punishment for customers they didn't like? Jukebox wasn't reliable--sign said "Use at your own risk." Bathrooms were so absolutely disgusting.  No toilet paper, paper towels or soap. They have holes in the walls, pipes exposed, and they reeked of urine. Too offensive to show photos. One positive thing was our waitress--she was energetic, positive, attentive, and willing to provide assistance if needed. read more

The servers and bar staff are fantastic. If you want a place to go where the people are fun and friendly, Slick Willie's is the place for you. Unfortunately, if you want a good pool hall or reasonably priced drinks, Slick Willie's is pretty awful. Equipment: The tables and balls are in horrible condition. I'm pretty sure that, despite being a pool hall, they don't own a ball cleaner. Aside from being chipped and dirty, the balls are also inconsistent in size, because the replacements aren't being purchased from the same sets. If you find a table with a dead, loose, or unresponsive rail (and you will), don't worry--it'll still be that way in a year. The cloth was replaced in summer of 2018, which wouldn't be bad for a bar table (I expect poorly maintained equipment at a bar, since it's not their primary business), but is too long for a pool hall. Prices: A soda is around $5, and the refill is another $5. Conclusion: The owner of this place is happy to gouge you on drinks, and they don't seem to care about your pool-playing experience in the slightest. That said, the staff is amazing. read more

Went to this place to chill and play pool after a night out, walked in with a group of friends (most of us being POC) and the guy checking ID's gave all of us a hard time. Stood there for quite literally 10 minutes as he checked for a group of 5. Mind you all of us are well above 21, we just look young. The guy even did a double take to look at me well. If we had fake IDs we wouldn't waste it on a pool hall in a rundown strip mall with their neon sign burning out. This pool hall is fair in my opinion. The pool tables need some maintenance, carpet looks really bad, and the place could be a little more clean in general. I will say that it stays busy with pool leagues throughout the week. The drinks are pricey compared to other pool halls that are in way better shape. This is a great place to hang out no matter your pool level of expertise. There are leagues that play and there are family's that come to play to have a good time. The tables are normally full Mondays because it's free pool if you buy a drink or food but the wait is not bad at all! The one fault I would say is the food isn't too good. We got the burger sliders and the bread was over heated and way too crunchy and the beef was only warm. We also got the onion rings but those were okay. The drinks are better though so I will just order that from now on. I do love this place as a hang out spot so I'll be back for sure. read more

This place is a great place that the APA plays at for their pool tournaments and such but the unfortunate thing is that the windows are not tinted well enough to block out lighting. This means that when you are playing pool during the day here, your eyes are blinded by the sun and you can barely focus on hitting any of the balls on the table. Most other pool halls I have visited have had good tinting so that when you are inside, you can play on the tables with the assistance of the indoor lighting but this place has fallen short of this. I guess while I am mentioning flaws, I must say that the tables are not in the greatest condition and I have lost many games in league due to this flaw. Defensive shots are nearly impossible to make on certain tables and sometimes you can even hit a ball straight across the table and it will roll sideways! As far as the social aspect goes, if you are a "new comer" to this place then you need to come a few more times to feel welcomed because the staff is not too welcoming to people they are not familiar with. I went through the same experience when I first started visiting this pool hall so sorry to say it but deal with it and befriend the staff! Why I give it 3 stars instead of 2? The food is all fried of course, just like any other "bar food" or "pool hall food" but the prices are actually pretty cheap for what it is instead of costing you an arm and a leg for a basket of chicken tenders and fries. So if you are going to buy food here then you will pay about 30% less than other bars and pubs in my opinion. If you would pay $12 for wings and fries then here you would pay about $8. Mondays have free pool so stop on by and see for yourself! read more

Free pool on Mondays if you buy some food... that's not a bad deal at all. The food is dirt cheap as well. They were out of some stuff when we went so I couldn't try the sliders. I ended up with a Frito Pie for $3. It was just OK. There wasn't enough Chili and the Chili was not hearty at all... but hey, what do you expect for $3. The place is huge, and there is a metric assload of pool tables. The tables are full sized and the table we were playing on seemed perfectly level to me. The bartender was a little on the brusque side, but it was slow in there so maybe he was just bored as hell. All-in-all I don't think I would go here on a Friday night to hang out and shoot pool. I found it to be a friendly place, very busy due to the league on the night I went there. The tables seemed to be in a good shape, however they have onyl two 9' tables the rest are 8'ers, which makes it a bit weird to play on. The lovely waitress gave me a couple of heart attacks by talking to me while i was playing, but looking into her applogizing smiley was good enough to forgive her... So overall a rather nice place, if you want to meet people or g oout for some fun. I come here a lot since this is the closest pool hall to where I live. That said, I wouldn't go anywhere else for some pool time. Normally I come with a group of friends to have a good time, chat, and play some pool. So far I haven't been disappointed once (yes, not once). My friend and I are regulars here and even the manager knows us. Their waitress are super nice and I find one of them super sexy, which is another factor that brings me back. Not much hasn't been said. This place is busier now that the one down by Highland is closed. As of right now, on Mondays they have free play if u buy a drink and Wednesday is $5 all you can play. They probably have other deals too on other nights but those are the only ones i'm aware of. I feel the price of pool is pretty fair even on the nights that dont have a special All the employees/waitstaff are very nice. You never really feel like your forgotten unless you want to be. The tables are generally well kept and they do get re-felted every so often. There are only two 9' tables but that isn't really a problem for most people. Just remember that this is a pool hall and not a sports bar, so you won't get flat screens everywhere. I came in here recently with several friends and drank a few beers, played some of the arcade-style games, and of course played a few games of pool. I was surprised at the enormity of the establishment; there must have been 30-40 pool tables and even though most of them were occupied the place didn't seem crowded. Wait service was quite good and food prices were very reasonable. I had some chicken tenders and fries for $7 that were filling and adequate. Parking on a Friday night was very difficult. We hadn't played pool in ages so last night we decided to hit up the only pool hall we could manage to recollect in our aging minds. We've never been to this location, but we used to hit up Slick Willie's all the time back in the day in Houston. It was fairly early on a Saturday, about 9pm, so there were plenty of tables available. We were greeted upon arrival, which was nice. The waitress walked by enough to get us what we needed and not enough to bother us. Plenty of room between the tables so I didn't get jabbed in the ribs from a neighboring player. The music is decent (a local radio station). Unfortunately, we were there less than 2 hours and had one beer and one mixed drink and the total was $29. This is definitely pricey in our minds for two people who are out on a date and didn't even get food. The point was to have fun, and we did, but we'll probably seek out somewhere closer to home with cheaper pool, or maybe come on a Thursday when it's only $5. read more

APA Pool League does their Tri-Cup tournaments here every session. We have been twice in the last year so far. The bartenders are extremely slow - this is coming from a bartender. Twice I approached the bar for drinks, taking 5 - 10 minutes for beers only (with credit card in hand and visible!)... There was no hustling to get drinks out, just some very slow, not so bright bartenders who didn't even seem to notice your existance. The manager had to wait on me the first time. It took almost 20 minutes to get 2 shots from a waitress... Though, not her fault she had to wait for the less than eager and not so energetic staff behind the bar to mix the drinks. There was not a heavy flow of drink orders going out! I was in the middle of a tournament match and they closed my tab before I was able to, ignoring my request to pay cash upon closing it out and putting it on my credit card. Needless to say, the brainless bimbo got a $1 tip and I sarcastically wrote nice service across my guest check... Perhaps it makes me a bitch, but if I am going to be spending money in your establishment, I expect decent service, upon which you will be greatly rewarded. I guess some people need to be reminded, and sadly, even those who do work in the service industry, as to what TIPS stand for: TO INSURE PROMPT SERVICE. The women's restroom was absolutely filthy and starting to flood from the middle stall. No attempt had been made, within the 5 1/2 hours we were there, to clean it up. We also easily overheard one of the cocktail waitresses who was asked to "man" the door asking, "Where's D!@K??" "Oh yeah, one of my customers called me a SKANK ASS HO!" Mind you, there are very young children around at this time of day, as they allow minors in before a certain time. Very classy! OMG. If I didn't play league there I would stay clear. The floors are like walking into a dark movie theater sticking to the floor and tripping over the loose carpet (Lawsuit waiting to happen). Slicks current Management continue to say they are going to fix the A/C however nothing yet. So at times it would be more comfortable to play outside. I would also suggest that if you need to go to the restroom you might want to think again. Maybe go down a couple suites and go at the sports bar. If i were to rate this establishment on their servers, waitress and bar staff I would give them a 5. Been going there now for tournaments and league for over a few years and it's just getting worse.
