Great find by Yelp for a quiet drink and dinner! The weather was conducive for outdoor dining and this establishment perfectly provided that! Easy to find with plenty of parking options for early evening dining! Nothing warms the hearts of us two Army vets walking up to the patio better than the US Flag created with red, white and blue lights! We seated ourselves outside next to a huge Rose of Sharon bush next to a Rosemary plant which gave a wonderful background scent! Inside there was a full bar, lots of TVs, lots of tables and a very inviting small sports bar decor. Service was prompt, welcoming and very friendly! Our drink order was quickly taken and served, then our food order taken. The server was exceptionally skilled and assisted with our selection. In no time, my Caesar salad was out. Plenty of cheese and very fresh Romaine. Then as I finished the salad, out came the main course! I had a half order of fried catfish with fries. The huge thick filets were flavorful catfish battered and fried to perfection. Very moist and flaky. The fries were good, but the star was the catfish. The full order would be a meal for two. All else enjoyed their selections. Excellent service continued through our visit! The price was very reasonable and this is a must visit if in the area! I wish I was here more often! read more

Arkadelphia has been an annual stop for us on road trips but this was our first time at S&S. Good selection of options including more than chicken fingers and burgers on the kids menu! Catfish, French Dip, kid sliders were all freshly made and really great. Service was extremely friendly and food came out fast. But....the fried green tomatoes took the day! Hand-held slices were lightly breaded and let the tomato flavor come through. Must-have. Highly recommend you pop in for a bite and a pint! read more

We were the only diners at opening hour on a Saturday. I can't believe the place wasn't busier. Everything we had was delicious! Fried green tomatoes were homemade. Caesar salad was fresh and delicious. Fried shrimp tasted hand battered and fresh from the Gulf. How do you even get shrimp that fresh in Arkansas?? The chicken salad croissant was scrumptious with just the right amount of fruit and celery- just like my grandma's- who is famous for her chicken salad. On our twice/year trek from Austin to Virginia and back, we arrived in Arkadelphia on a Sunday, to find our go-to restaurant closed. After checking YELP reviews, we decided to try Slim & Shorty's. We almost gave up when we got near the location, a dark and deserted downtown where many streets were closed for construction and nothing appeared to be open. But this restaurant was an island of light and activity. We decided to try it and were not disappointed. The bar was full of couples and groups eating and watching NFL football and The Sound of Music on the multiple TVS. Seemed an odd mix, but that's OK. There were also several couples eating at table, which we did. The menu is typical bar food, but the quality is better. Everything was excellent and prices were reasonable. We definitely will come back. I would have given five stars but our waitress was pretty lackadaisical. We had to hunt her down a couple of times to get her attention, including waiting about 10 minutes for her to close out our bill and having to bring it to her. read more

Place is much more of a dive bar than we realized. Service was ok, they seemed grossly understaffed but everyone was working as hard as they could. Can't fault the poor/average service on not enough help. The food was a major disappointment. $12 for a shrimp wrapped with bacon app that was overcooked and tiny tiny shrimp. Like, salad shrimp. Grilled oysters the same. Poor quality seafood and wayyyyy overcooked. NY strip steak was tasteless and super fatty. Burgers were ok. The fried pickles and side salads were probably the best things on the table. Won't be back. Drive the 30 mins to Hot Springs and save the disappointment. read more

After we (two people) placed our order, we waited for 45 minutes for the food to come out. Several tables that came in well after us got their food and finished while we still had nothing. Looked like the host forgot to put the order in, and generally seemed like he didn't notice us. The pork chop was decent, but the service was subpar. We found this place on Yelp while looking for something to eat.. we ordered takeout and went to pick it up. My nephew said the Catfish was a 10 out of 10 rating according to his taste buds lol. We prefer trying local places to chains when we travel and found this place on Yelp. We both had the catfish and my son and his wife each had a gyro (with lamb). The half order of catfish was two large fillets with two sides...and it was a LOT of food. They offer the catfish either grilled or fried and we had it fried. It was perfectly done with a cornmeal breading and the tartar sauce was also very good (I'm picky about my tartar sauce). The service was outstanding, all of their staff were very friendly and attentive. It was a beautiful night to eat on the patio and they didn't mind us doing that at all. It's in downtown Arkadelphia, so not an easy off/easy on if you're passing through on the interstate, but well worth the detour! read more

We visit the Hot Springs area a couple of times a year, and nearly always stop at Slim & Shorty's for lunch on the way. The consistently good food, reasonable prices and funky atmosphere make it a fun destination. I usually get the catfish poboy because it is SO good, but with a diabetic husband I'm trying to cut back on carbs along with him. So this time I ordered a salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing.
