    Grilled chicken club sandwich
    Kathy L.

Today we stopped by to check out the food at Slim Chickens. The menu indicates the chicken is fried but the lady at the counter said the chicken could be grilled except for the wings. This store is relatively new and it is shiny and clean inside. We ordered a grilled chicken club sandwich. Additionally we ordered grilled tenders. The lady at the counter mentioned the fries could be swapped and she recommended the Mac and cheese. Not knowing the fries would be swapped for Mac and cheese my husband agreed. I didn't realize the "swap" either or I would have spoken up to confirm he was willing to give up the fries. It wasn't until we arrived at home that he realized there were no fries. He was not happy. He complained about the small Mac and cheese container and how it didn't make up for the fries at all. He saw people's fries in the restaurant and even commented on how good the fries looked. The tenders were tender, moist and tasted good. We had bleu cheese and ranch for dipping sauces. Hubs liked the bleu cheese and I liked the ranch. There was toast that was ok. Hubs said he would order the chicken club sandwich again with fries and skip the Mac and cheese. I would try the fried tenders next time. If you are in the neighborhood, give them a try.

This was my first visit to slim chickens and I was pleasantly surprised. I was a bit overwhelmed when I pulled up and felt a bit rushed. But otherwise the people were very nice and the food tasted great! I will definitely go back.

Fried pickles side basket- great taste, but not worth the small portion.

Recently had lunch at the Slims Chicken located at Town Madison. One of my favorites is the fried pickles, but was surprised by the new serving size. The basket was delivered to the table with very few pickles. The photo shows the serving size prior to eating any. Tastes good, but not worth the money for such a small portion.

Great customer service and I greatly appreciate their accountability/ willingness to make up for our previous visit. Last night we started with the crab croquettes, STELLAR. Absolutely loved and devoured these. The crunch on the croquette was to die for, topped with a refreshing crab salad, perfect. For my entree, I had the lamb rack with house potatoes & broccolini. My boyfriend had the blackened catfish with the grits. Both dishes were phenomenal . To finish up we tried their new chocolate strawberry bread pudding, so rich and delicious. This restaurant is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Northern Alabama. Go give them a try! We'll 100% be back.

I was disappointed because it is rare for us to enjoy a meal out, and Southern Table, to this point, has been my favorite place to have dinner in the entire north Alabama region! I crave Chef Yokley's wood-fired oysters and find this dish consistently filling and delicious as it has been for years! Because Hubs did not want any oysters, I got 2 pairs of oysters on the happy hour menu which were extremely reasonably priced at either $1.00 or $2.00 per oyster. Were they wood-fired? Yes. Were they rich and decadent like all previous times I have tried them? No. Were they small? Yes. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a small oyster, in fact my favorite oysters, Murder Points, are typically small, or small-ish. The recent visit, the oysters were way smaller than the shucked shell they were heated in with the parmesan cheese sauce, meaning the cheese overwhelmed and dominated any oyster goodness (brininess) you could have tasted and enjoyed. And, the last of the four oysters had some tough mollusk piece that I actually had to just spit the whole oyster out in my napkin. Either bad shucking or lack of expediting/checking the dishes leaving the kitchen, or both. It was sad. Chef Yokley posts a lot of photographs of his dishes/drinks on Facebook and I had seen his crab cakes with a unique and very interesting sounding salad with citrusy flavored greens and unique berries I had never tried. Well, wouldn't you expect the server to tell you about the specials and describe them? Ours did not. I had to pull up the photograph from Facebook and ask the server about it. They offered an appetizer size of the dish and an entree sized version. I got the appetizer. It was okay. There wasn't as much of a sear on these smallish crab cakes, as I like and the "salad" was more of a garnish, meaning, it would have been nice to have more of the salad than I received. I had to chase down the server to get hubs water refilled (he would have had non alcoholic beer but Southern Table doesn't have any) and to get me a second glass of house white wine. Hubs ordered a wood fired pork sandwich with French Fries. He said it tasted a lot like Lawler's barbecue. He added "and that's not a bad thing!" The sandwich was nothing special, honestly to the Hubs. It will be a while before I return to Southern Table, sadly. I think Chef Yokley needs to step up his expediting game and his attention to detail.

The star of the meal was the fried green tomatoes. They were thick, juicy, perfectly fried, and honestly didn't need any dipping sauce or condiment at all. They're some of the best I've had. Minnie and I both ordered the whole catfish with mashed potatoes and fried green tomatoes. We absolutely demolished our plates. The catfish was delicious, and the mashed potatoes tasted genuinely homemade. The brown gravy was rich and flavorful and paired perfectly with them. My mom ordered the 4-vegetable plate with fried green tomatoes, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and fried okra. She loved everything on her plate. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the restaurant was busy the entire time we were there. There was a steady stream of both dine-in customers and takeout orders, which tells you a lot about the place's reputation. My only complaint is the wait time. Food takes a while to come out, especially if you're ordering fried items, but they do warn you ahead of time. The quality makes it clear they're cooking to order, so if you decide to visit, just be prepared to be patient. If someone asked me where to take an out-of-town guest for authentic Southern cooking, G's Country Kitchen would be at the top of my list. The food is homemade, comforting, and exactly what people imagine when they think of classic Southern cuisine. Overall, the food was fantastic, the service was welcoming, and it's easy to see why G's Country Kitchen is a go-to spot for homestyle country cooking. We'll definitely be back.

This was Southern hospitality at its finest, wrapped in incredible food and genuine warmth from the moment our Forest Service and Alabama A&M team walked through the door. The owner and staff were extremely kind, welcoming, and hospitable to our group, treating us less like customers and more like honored guests. The owner personally sat with our team, walking us through the menu item by item, sharing stories, and offering recommendations on his favorite dishes. That personal touch set the tone for the whole lunch and made the meal feel both special and deeply personal. The food itself was soul-satisfying in every way. The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned with a crispy exterior and juicy interior, the kind of dish that makes you pause after the first bite. The catfish was especially delicious as well, tender, flavorful, and cooked just right, embodying everything you hope for in classic country cooking. And the banana pudding was a standout, instantly transporting me to memories of dining in Savannah, with that rich, comforting, homemade taste you feel in your soul. From start to finish, everything about our visit to G's Country Kitchen was outstanding...the hospitality, the conversation, the food, and the feeling of being truly cared for. Many thanks to the owner and the entire staff for a great experience and a lunch that our Forest Service and Alabama A&M team will not soon forget.

It was extremely tender and melts in your mouth! You don't need a knife because it falls apart on its own and it was seasoned to perfection. The smoked wings were delicious as well and paired perfectly with the white sauce. The mac wasn't the greatest but I enjoyed the potato salad. The Texas toast was a great addition and was perfect for creating a little bbq sandwich. My total came out to around $32 which I felt was a bit pricey when I had paid but after getting my plate I realized how large the portions were which totally justified the cost. At most BBQ restaurants I usually finish all my food but here I had left overs so I basically got 2 meals out of the one plate. Another thing I liked is that they have a variety of sauces and they aren't stingy with them. Overall this is a great spot with friendly staff that provides wonderful service.
